He waits outside the gate of Rustboro overlooking the city in the distance disdain for it just as plentiful as it was it's mid morning and as such it was time to leave Rustboro. He'd left the pokemon far earlier than she had of his own accord wishing to be as far away from Rustboro as he possibly could now that his current business had concluded. The memories the city held left the man far grumpier than he normally was and so when the opportunity came to leave he was the first out. Their plan was to get to Mauville by the end of the day, and so they had to get an early start.
And so he waits for the woman tinkering with his pokegear every so often, nervousness racking his system despite various meetings and dates with the woman thus far. Through this antsy nervousness there was some excitement it would be the first time the two really had hung out since Petalburg, meaning she'd liked him enough for a second date, if this was even a date. Point being she liked him enough to travel with him despite her initial wishes to travel alone. Of course the two wouldn't be spending the whole journey together, but that was for the best he also needing his space.
Miles had contacted her a few hours before their scheduled meet up asking her if she wanted to travel to get to Verdanturf Town or Mauville together. While Syndra had no plans of going to either location anytime soon, it would have been good to scout out the routes and go ahead of time so she knew the layout of things. Thus she had agreed to the arrangement as she had nothing else significant planned for the day. Her pokemon had finished their exercises in the morning so the rest of the day was open to whatever Syndra felt like that day. Luckily she had scouted the route 116 before so she knew the general layout of the terrain and how to get to the Rusturf Tunnel quickly so she didn't expect the travel to take long at all.
Upon arriving at the gate between Rustboro and route 116, Syndra looked around to find the other trainer. It took a minute but she finally recognized the male a little ways away though he didn't have the same appearance as before which threw her off. Nevertheless she walked over to him and decided to make the comment immediately, "You look different." Her tone was cheerful as she waved towards him. She placed her hands behind her as she waited for a response. "I'm shocked that Basil isn't going with you since you're both travel buddies and all."

When the woman appears he can't help but laugh sliding his pokegear in his pocket, "I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing." He eyes the woman carefully sliding his bag on his back ready to move onward. "I picked up some clothes from my place, managed to see my old barber too before heading out." He hated his hometown yes, but it still had some hometown perks. His explanation for his change was as brief and simple as that. As he finished she asked about Basil not having seen the man since their fight it wasn't a topic he cared to talk about.
"I haven't seen him in a minute honestly, I figure we'll catch up with each other sooner or later I'm sure." a casual shrug follows the statement. The red head having traveled alone of his own volition since then. He can't help but wonder if the dark skinned trainer had gotten any stronger since their last meeting, after all the man's goal was to become the champion. Speaking of which, "How was your experience in Rustboro, Enjoy yourself?"
"Oh-ho?" Syndra said in joking judgment as she walked around him once as if to sizing up his new look. He never mentioned that Rustboro was his hometown but based on what he had just said that much could be assumed. However the girl could tell it wasn't a subject he wished to talk about based on their past interactions. When leaving Petalburg to Rustboro, he didn't seem as happy as he had before. Even leaving with that short explanation left much to be desired so she didn't dig.
As for mentioning Basil, Syndra pursed her lips at the response she got on that. Part of her wondered if something happened to him yet Miles didn't seem to concerned. Miles claimed he hadn't seen him in awhile and would catch up later but if they were travel partners didn't that mean they traveled the routes together? "Alright," was her curt response however brief. Then in her normal whimsical manner she began to wander off into the route without warning so that Miles couldn't catch her out on her reply. "Rustboro wasn't as rustic as I thought it would be but I don't regret visiting. I have to come back eventually to challenge the gym of course but I don't think I'm strong enough for that yet." She turned around and began walking backwards down the path to be able to face Miles while talking. It was safe enough in her opinion to do so. "The plan is to go through the Rusturf Tunnels to get to Verdanturf Town right?"

"More or less." The idea to move to Mauville came to him mainly as a need or supreme want to get out of Rustboro as soon as possible moving Through the routes to Mauville would give him both time train and continue his journey with feeling trapped in the city he loathes. However before moving on he does have another request the route serving as a good battle ground, a want to train his bulbasaur superseding his need to move on if barely.
"Bulbasaur still hasn't gotten a hang of the whole battle thing, so I was hoping for a quick one on one match before we leave. And before the tunnel there's a nice little rest spot to heal our pokemon after making it through the route anyways, if I remember correctly. Interested?" he offers brandishing the grass types pokeball in his hand tossing it casually in his hand waiting on the woman's decision.
Miles had stopped her before she moved too far to ask for a battle. It was the type of battle that most everyone was looking for lately and it was one to raise younger pokemon. The female paused as she thought it over. "Sure, why not. I'll be using the pokemon that hatched from my egg," she stated cheerfully. The male did request she tell him what pokemon hatched from her egg last time they met which was when the bulbasaur hatched. What better way then a quick battle? As for defending themselves for the rest of the route until the rest stop, between the two of them their more experienced pokemon would be able to handle that. Thus she didn't mind.
Taking a few paces to give a space enough to be considered a battlefield. Lobbing her pokeball forward a flash of light appeared with an amber fox being revealed as it faded. A cute cry of her name and a sway of her tails she looked more ready to play than battle. Syndra chuckled at this as she waited for Miles to send out his. "You can start first but I won't go easy."

She has no qualms to his challenge to his joy. "Thanks sorry to hold us up like this." He watches the girl throw out her pokemon revealing nothing other than a vulpix. He remembers her hunch about it being a fire pokemon of sorts, her hunch having been correct. "Definitely an uphill fight but try your best alright." He calls the bulbous pokemon out he's happy to see Syndra but quickly grasps the situation. He's afraid of the fire pokemon a natural fear, but the trainer comforts the pokemon best he can before sending it out to battle.
"I'll start it off Tackle it twice over!" His voice is confident despite the results of this battle plainly obvious. However showing he has no hope in this scenario wouldn't do his pokemon any good at all, in truth he's just happy the pokemon decided to battle after seeing his opponent was Syndra in the first place.
The call for an attack was used and the grass type had moved in for the tackle. The fire type was prepared for it by inhaling a breath in anticipation for her trainer's orders. "Use ember as much as you can." This was a command that Syndra always ended up using as it was Vulpix's only attack move. That said often times it was effective so the small burst of flames were sent out to hit the grass type point blank as it crashed into the fox. The fox took the damage with a cry but took this as another opportunity to ember it so she did exhale another small flame on the Bulbasaur.

The tackles connect, but the flames do as well the various spurt of flames first scaring the bulbasaur before knocking it out entirely the battle ending just as quickly as it started. He runs over to the defeated grass type holding the baby bulbous pokemon in his arms. "You did a good job, and you're only gonna get stronger. The pokemon only halfway or so cognizant, gives a weak cry in response before the trainer returns the pokemon to his pokeball. "Damn I didn't stand a chance on that one, still got work to do." It's more too himself than the trainer he's not happy with the loss, but it doesn't surprise him in the slightest the only thing left to do was to put his best foot forward.
"Man it mimics our first match, not too long ago." The thought comes to him just as quickly as he speak it his Larvesta fighting against her Turtwig many moons ago. "Anyways let's move on we have a bit of a journey ahead of us. Oh and thanks for the battle Syn, really I appreciate it." He flashes the girl a small smile placing the pokeball in his pocket beginning to move on.
