Perhaps she was pushing things when she decided to challenge the Dewford Gym. It had not been long since her first challenge at the Petalburg gym so the challenge might have been a bit rushed. That said the female was eager to prove herself in this gym. She studied in preparation for the match and while her pokemon might have been less experienced in terms of battle but she had no doubt that they could win the next badge. Acknowledging that the gym might have been stronger than the last the female walked in with mild caution.
Walking in, the female paused upon entry. The instant scent reminiscent of a sweaty gym permeated throughout the room. There were several work out machines littered along the walls and the battlefield situated in the center. Syndra was not sure what she should have expected but she was now trying to get used to the air in the gym. It could have been worse. Her brother's rooms had smelled worse in the past. Unlike at Petalburg gym she did not take a large breath before calling out, this time only using a normal tone. "Excuse me! I'm here to challenge the gym!"
bradley walks onto the stage. he proudly puffs out his chest, staring right into the challenger's eyes. with one hand on his hip and another flexed before him, he gleefully orders the machop into the field.
"heyyy there challenger, ya ready to start? this is gonna be a workout so you better get ready. first move is yours!"
Finally the gym leader showed up, this person looking much different from Norman in Petalburg. The man that appeared wasn't exactly what she expected but when he flexed she had immediately known this was the correct person. Nodding at his question and reaching for her pokeballs, she thought over her strategy one more time. There was a moderate amount of confidence for this gym as well. As the leader called forth the muscle pokemon Machop she threw her own pokeball out. The yellow psychic type pokemon appeared on the battlefield but instead of looking weary like he usually did he had stood up with a moderate amount of preparation for this battle.
"Alright let's have some fun!" Syndra called out gleefully to which she received some mental scolding from the Abra. Technically she didn't have to even verbally order moves since Abra could read her mind as to what she wanted. Convenient as that was however it didn't seem necessary. Making the first move without waiting for Syndra to verbally confirm the move the psychic pokemon. The words escaped her lips regardless, "Dazzling Gleam." A vibrant light shown from behind Abra from an unknown source to strike directly into the fighting type's eyes. It made him look more prominent that he actually was. He did it once more for good measure as well, confident in his ability to knock out the Machop with this move.
the attack is bright and pink and glittery. it leaves machop's eyes seeing dots all over the place. he stumbles back, blanking rapidly. bradley calls from his position on the stage.
"ey there bud, watch out for that second attack!"
the pokemon barely leaps out of the way of the second attack. after blinking away the effects, machop leers at the abra in anger before jumping at it fore a karate chop.
He... failed to knock it out? The psychic type looked down at his hands to figure out if he had done something wrong. To discern if the failure was due to his weakness or the sheer will of the adversary. The Leering made him flinch slightly but it wasn't enough to catch him too off guard. Reflexively moving an arm to defend himself against the incoming attack, the strike made its mark. That said it did minimal damage to the psychic type. Without waiting for instruction he had used Dazzling Gleam again with the glow of the light bursting from Abra's body.
Syndra watched the battle and didn't really feel the need to say much. Abra was doing what she would have suggested and doing well taking control of this fight. If anything she could give advice via telepathic link. It wasn't as if she was taking the gym lightly it was just how it turned out. "Try to finish it with another Dazzling Gleam." Producing another shimmer of light and sparkles Abra was keen on ending it this time.
macho's attacks are useless against the abra. bradley had expected it, and he's not surprised that the trainer brought an abra. he returns the fallen pokemon back into its pokeball.
with a flash of white light meditite takes its place. it floats in the air, hands and feet meeting together in prayer. it's also a psychic type, so it should fair a bit better in this battle.
"alright, focus energy and swoop in for another karate chop."
Thankfully the fighting type was now down for the count. Abra looked partly relieved and partly disappointed that it took so long. The pokemon was recalled and next pokemon appeared swiftly afterwards. The appearance of the meditation pokemon however was surprising. "Oh. A Meditite... that's unexpected. Will that be a problem for you?" Syndra mentally thought over to the Abra who nodded in response rather than giving an actual mental or verbal response cue back. While he was pleased with the first win he wanted to prove he could do this all by himself and went back into a stance for battle. Luckily in this case there was a move that Abra had for this too though neither him or his trainer expected to use it for this gym. "Shadow Ball will work. See if you can hit two in succession."
As shadowy trails of energy began forming in between the fingers of the psychic type, he waited to allow the psychic type to strike him. It was another Karate Chop to which this time Abra was more focused on focusing his attack rather than blocking. Once he felt the attack hit, stinging more than the other pokemon had but barely so, he threw the now fully developed sphere of darkness point blank into the opponent's face. Jumping back as he repeated the process he formed another sphere and chucked it after the first one to see if he could finish the psychic type with that alone.
meditite's typing makes no difference in the battle. bradley widens his eyes in surprise. what move doesn't this abra have? well, he has to give her props for it. he sure didn't expect that.
"ay, dodge those things!" he says. his vernacular could be a lot better, but he's a little excited. meditite springs out of the way of one, but another goes right to his side. he takes a moment to leer back at the pokemon before going in for another karate chop.
While yes the fighting type moves were not as painful to the psychic type did not mean that they did not hurt after repeated attacks. He didn't want to admit it but Abra was feeling some soreness where the attacks were hitting and the leering didn't help matters. Syndra noticed this and while it seemed Abra wanted to push his luck in taking another hit his trainer didn't. "Dodge this one and take a breather." This time she spoke aloud to get the pokemon's attention. He had known this was her intention but did not anticipate the girl saying it aloud which instinctively got the pokemon to take heed to these instructions. Shifting his body he is unable to dodge the chop fully as it grazes his left shoulder but his right hand lifted up into the air to collect more eerie energies. "There now Shadow Ball it again then shine Dazzling Gleam into its eyes."
The mental link served well in communicating those thoughts. In a sequence of attacks the shadow ball was thrown at the Meditite again though this time a Dazzling Gleam followed rather than a second orb of darkness, the light contrasting the ghost move. Thankfully Abra got those moves before the gym battle and the prep was showing off. Unfortunately it looked as though Abra alone wouldn't be enough to wipe the gym as from the fatigued look on his face told it all even if Abra was preventing his own thoughts of that from traveling to Synda.
Abra, Psychic-type (Synchronize) Level 17
Abra hit by leer and Karate Chop. Abra uses Shadow Ball then Dazzling Gleam
meditite's taken down just as easily as machop is. the shadow ball hits it in the shoulder, leaving the pokemon stumbling, and with a dazzling gleam meditite's effectively blinded. the bright light makes bradley cover his eyes. when he peeks over his arm, he finds that the pokemon's fainted.
he returns the pokeball and throws another. his last pokemon. makuhita's bulgy form materializes before him. it knows that abra's at an advantage, so it leaps forward with a tackle before it summons a whirlwind at the abra.
makuhita♂ - level 019 - thick fat moveset: tackle, knock off, arm thrust force palm, fake out, whirlwind
The last pokemon was a pokemon that had been somewhat familiar. In her past the exploration event earlier that month had a Hariyama. That one was more intimidating though from what she could tell this Makuhita was stronger. Despite Abra's worn out physical state the psychic type once again got into battle stance but this time he began glowing a vibrant white light. Within it looked as if the Abra was growing out until finally the lights dissipated to show his new form. "Woah," Syndra couldn't help but awe at the new appearance. Enough so that the attack from the gym leader caught her off guard. Kadabra on the other hand was more keen and aware of it, sidestepping the full on tackle. However he was unable to avoid the gust of wind that came after.
The blast of circling winds created mixed feelings. At one side she was happy with the gust of air but at the same time this same gust of air ejected Kadabra backwards into the safety of his pokeball. One of her other pokeballs managed to get loose from her belt and swept into the vortex. Syndra realizing what happened lifted her hand to stop the pokeball though it was too late. The device flew open and as the gust dissipated a young amber fox flaunted her tailed as she landed on the ground effortlessly. Lowering her hand Syndra thought over what to possibly do now. "Guess we'll have to make due. Kadabra couldn't handle much more anyway..." she mused to herself as she placed a hand to her hip. Vulpix cried out to show she was ready in turn. "Confuse ray then use Fire Blast as he's disoriented."
The fox leaped forward with her eyes glowing an eerie white, staring directly at the fighting type to lure him to look at her. At the same time she inhaled a breath to prepare the heat inside her body to release the large blast of fire from her mouth.
Kadabra, Psychic-type (Synchronize) Level 19
Vulpix, Fire-type (Flash Fire) Level 17
Abra evolved into Kadabra and dodged the tackle. Hit by whirlwind and Vulpix was switched in place. Used confuse ray and fire blast.
bradley shields his eyes from the white light that suddenly engulfs the abra. it stings his eyes, and when he finally opens them there's a taller version in it's place. it's evolved.
"woah, totally rad. i don't see it very often." he says. he grins as the whirlwind gets rid of the pokemo, finally, a break from the super effective attacks. although the confuse ray is quite annoying. makuhita stumbles round, missing the fire blast by inches.
he tries to deliver a force palm to the vulpix before stumbling forward and falling to the ground.
makuhita♂ - level 019 - thick fat moveset: tackle, knock off, arm thrust force palm, fake out, whirlwind
makuhita dodges fire blast! makuhita is confused!
makuhita used force palm!
makuhita used tackle! makuhita hurts itself in its confusion!
Watching the fighting type stumbling about near Vulpix was actually quite funny. The fire type didn't seem to mind it much either and was more at ease for this fight. How it evaded the large stream of fire was impressive or maybe it was luck. Either way it almost look like it hit but Syndra wasn't fooled. It did manage its way over to the fox and push hard against her body as it fell, the pokemon being hit on right backside by the force palm amidst its toppling. At least now it couldn't follow up.
Trying to create space between the fighting type after its fall and herself, Vulpix jumped backwards shaking her body to get rid of the feeling of the Makuhita touching her. "Fire Blast while its down," the trainer called. Now the fire pokemon shot another burst of flames at the downed yellow pokemon to hit it then another. That said the fox was well trained and was careful with her fire as to not cause the flames to spread off the field much less create a problem within the gym.
makuhita is taken down completely by vulpix. the ring of fire engulfs it. it's so intense that bradley can feet the heat from his platform. the fire blast leaves its body charred and smoking. he returns it. the battle's over now.
"good job, showed me some new moves." he winks, offering the knuckle badge to syndra.

makuhita faints! vulpix gains 2 levels
syndra receives the knuckle badge! you may continue posting or claim your thread
As the Makuhita was left on the ground to take the full intensity of the flames, the female felt a mix of worry and pride. Hopefully the Makuhita would be okay after that but the motherly pride in such power from the pokemon she raised herself from an egg. It was a good day. As the makuhita was recalled Syndra showed her smile again as the fox perked up at the sign of winning the fight. Taking that the fire type turned tail and leaped into Syndra's arms expecting much affection from her trainer. The gym leader's words only made it better for her as she walked over to claim her prize. "Thank you. I appreciate it," she stated as she reached her hand to the badge. With that done she could focus on her next milestone. "I'll be going now but thanks again for the match."
