It was about that time, when Sylvester would challenge Petalburg City's gym leader, Norman. Knowing his pokemon were strong, it was only a matter of time. Sylvester would know when it would be right, and if and when he got that badge it would finally give him some real confidence in his abilities as a trainer.
Yet, what he really wanted wasn't a boost in confidence. No, what Sylvester wanted was to beat someone in battle. He barely won, and his desire to do as much was growing intensely. Stalking the area just outside of the gym, he walked with haste and a distinct aggravation about him. Any and all passersby did their best to stay out of his way. The look on his face wreaked of angered determination.

What? What, your moral code just won't allow for that? It's too hard to cross that line? |

❝ | If it had been you that he beat to a bloody pulp, if he had taken you from this world, I would've done nothing but search the planet for this pathetic pile of evil death-worshiping garbage and sent him off to hell. | ❞ |
Jeremy rubbed the back of his neck, tilting it to the side to alleviate the pain that had taken root. It seemed, at least in the last couple days, that everyone and their mother wanted to battle. If it wasn't in a town, it was in one of the routes connecting to each town. He enjoyed the practice, but what he didn't like was having so many people know him. He could have done without that, but he didn't give it much more thought. After cracking his neck on both sides he opened his eyes and what did he see? "Oh fuck me..." He mumbled. Trainers on all sides were moving and dodging one man who seemed adamant about battling.
"What do you think Zetsumei?" He asked, looking down at the houndour. Houndour yipped before his eyes fell upon the other man with his trainer. "Eh...you're right." Jeremy mumbled once more before continuing on his path toward the other man. With both hands in a pair of black pants and a dark green shirt covering his upper half, he made his way on over. "Yo...seems no one wants any trouble today." Jeremy laughed before shrugging to himself, and pointing down at the Houndour. "This is Zetsumei, and I'm Jeremy. Pleasure." It was strange, just complaining about it earlier but then coming over to this man like it had been nothing at all.
"Unless of course you're just standing here and you'd like to be alone. I've never been the best at reading people." Soft blue eyes met with the other mans. What was the saying? Once your eyes lock you have to battle? He was sure he heard that somewhere before. Perhaps this man didn't want to battle though. One could dream, right?

"Huh?" Sylvester turned to take in the view of the man approaching him with a houndour at his side. "Hey there...likewise. I'm Sylvester." Looking own at the pokemon and then back up to Jeremy, Sylvester wondered which it was that Jeremy wanted from him.
"Nope, not from me at least." He gazed around at the passerby, all of whom avoided the two clustered near the entrance of the gym. "I am still wondering if I should go in and challenge the gym leader as of yet." Though he was brimming with excitement for a fight, there was always a fraction of doubt within Sylvester. Perhaps that was because he knew all too well he was not yet able to take on one of his supposed friends, Syndra Mawdrey.
"I doubt anyone wants to battle here except the gym leader." A pretty bold assumption to make, and it was likely that it was wrong. "Eh, no matter. I lost the desire to battle now anyway." It was either that, or he was just momentarily distracted from his aspirations.
"So what brings you around Petalburg City?"

Jeremy took note of the name, perhaps the two of them would cross paths again, but on different sides; on the off chance that happened, Jeremy liked to keep a little something hidden away for when things got too fishy. Laughing to himself, Jeremy also noticed the lack of trainers gathering around them. Why they would think they wanted to battle when a perfectly good gym was right there was beyond him. He wondered if he was laughing with Sylvester, or the irony of it all. He shook his head gently and pointed toward the gym with his thumb pointing toward the building. "Honestly if you want to, do it. I'll be challenging the gym when all of my pokemon get a bit stronger. You though..." He paused, taking the mans entire frame in before finishing his thought. "Look like you could put up a fight."
Was it all idle chat, words to get the two of them through a potential awkward silence? Hm, perhaps. Jeremy tapped his chin and nodded. "No one would wanna battle in the town anyway, routes are best for that." He was glad that the other man didn't want to battle. "Me? Oh nothing, just sight seeing with Zetsumei here. We're gonna be heading through all of the routes, make a little map so we can just hop on around where ever we're needed." Strange as it may have been that the two of them couldn't just do that now, something was just telling him he shouldn't do it that way, or....couldn't? What a silly idea.
"Well, if you don't want to battle you're more than welcome to join us. We're just walking around, perhaps it'll spark your will to battle and then you can take on the gym." Jeremy offered the idea to the other man, but he wasn't going to force anyones hand.
