Erica Anne Redwood was doing her level best to not let her resentment get the better of her. But it was difficult. It was oh, so very difficult.
It wasn't Fred's fault that he was caught in the middle of all this. It wasn't Fred's fault that Erica resented the heck out of the very man who was responsible for bringing them together. Fred was just... Fred.
And right now the Growlithe pup was growling at a tuft of grass waving on the ground outside one of the houses that dotted Littleroot. His face was low, almost resting on his paws as his hind end was raised proudly, his tail wagging back and forth in the air. Even Erica had to admit that he was adorable as he reached one paw out to bat curiously at the tuft of grass.
The tuft, of course, was unresisting and bent against the curious blow. At this, Fred obviously decided that he had won the stand-off and that the tuft was not, in fact, another Pokémon lurking about to threaten his new Trainer.
Fred obviously took protecting his new Trainer very seriously indeed.
For her part, Erica wasn't sure about the proprieties since she'd only started being a Trainer that very day, but as long as he behaved himself, she didn't want to put him back in the PokeBall she'd gotten him in. So the two of them walked side-by-side through the town. Fred curiously investigating everything around them and Erica somewhat lost in her thoughts.
