Notes: Poor Piplup
@sera
Sera was having a wonderful day, or at least she 'was'. Was in the past tense as in a sense of well being that has now passed. Today was the day in which she would receive her first starter Pokemon, a reward of sorts for finishing her training at Team Magma headquarters. But what had she received? A Piplup. A water Pokemon. Was this her superiors some kind of a sick joke? Because if it was she was most diffidently NOT laughing.
Glaring at the small blue penguin that looked up at her eagerly, she thought of her current mission. Her superiors had told her in blatant terms that she was still weak and that if she wanted to get anywhere at all in their organization that she would need to become far stronger then she currently was. For now, she was stuck with the Penguin as her only source of power. And like it or not, it meant that she had to work with this thing.
"You are the Bane of my existence. As such, that will be your name. Bane. That is your name now." The Piplup now named 'Bane' started to tear up at her blunt words but his trainer was having none of it. "None of that now, no tears. Your name is Bane and that's that. We don't have to like each other.. in fact I'm going to come out and say it. I really don't like you. It's nothing personal, just business. But, we have to work with each other here. So stop your blubbering and go kill something would you?"
The starly hopped along quietly, looking for food, completely oblivious to the exchange going on near her. With her feet, she raked at the ground, tearing up slivers of grass so she could feast on the tender roots. Occasionally, she'd pause and flap her wings, ruffling them up and preening them, before going back to her hunt for a meal.
No sooner had she said that did Sera spy a bit of movement. With a grin she pointed at the Starly with as much authority in the gesture as she could muster. "There, that didn't take long. Go on Bane, go show it just how strong we are." And by we, she of course meant her. Because the logic that Bane would be doing most of the work and that this was a partnership meant nothing to her over the approval of her Team Magma peers. Mostly it was because Bane was a water type, something that she was not all too fond of. In fact, she could clearly say without a doubt that water was her least favorite type ever, she even liked the bug type more then she did water.
"Damn.... what moves did you have again?" She sighed for a moment, trying her hardest to remember. Having been a water Pokemon, she really had not invested too much time in learning too much about her Pokemon. Of course, she would remedy in the near future now that she realized how inconvenient that made things. Though, bits and pieces of information managed to still become lodged in her brain against her will. Something that she was, at least a little bit, grudgingly grateful for.
"Right. Bane, growl and then pound it. Now. Show it who's boss." Bane appeared startled for a moment, but obeyed the command none the less. Rushing towards the Starly that Sera pointed out as fast as his webbed feet could carry him, he growled at the starly and readied his flippers to deliver a pounding.
Taken completely by surprise, the young starly found herself attacked out of the blue by a fellow bird pokémon. She squawked indignantly and flapped her wings.
"Star!"
Ruffling her feathers up to make herself look a little more intimidating (hopefully), she used growl on the insolent piplup whilst hopping up and down.
Sera allowed a ghost of smile at the Starly's display. A ghostly smile that quickly faded after only a moment of haunting the shadows of an expression. She was not supposed to like this... this creature. Although, and it pained her beyond all reason to admit, said creature was absolutely adorable. She had originally been devastated, though now seeing Bane fight she had come to realize that perhaps her new... partner, was not as useless as it first appeared to be. Giving herself a mental shake she returned her focus on the battle at hand, she could think about such things later.
Back to the battle at hand, Bane fluffed his feathers in irritation. The look that his foe gave him was not a very nice look at all. He was just following orders, no reason to get her feathers bent out of shape about it. Honestly, some Pokemon! And that growl that she gave him was just uncalled for. "Come on Bane, just Pound it's face in until it stops moving. I want to get this over with!" If a Penguin could sweat drop, this one would. Some game plan his trainer had, but what was a Pokemon to do. With a nod of his head, Bane gave his affirmation and began his charge with flippers ready for the impending assault. "Piplup!"
The starly was making a lot of noise. Each attack that landed made her squawk louder and louder until her cries were more like furious birdlike screeches. She didn't know what these people wanted but they'd pay for their insolence!
Taking the offensive, the small bird darted towards the piplup at a breakneck speed, using quick attack.
Starly was hit by pound! Starly was hit by pound! Starly used quick attack!
Status: 75% Health Hit by quick attack! Bane was injured D: Bane used Pound x2!
Before Bane or Sera could fully register the attack that was coming, the Starly was already half way into her assault. Stifling a curse, Sera could only watch as Bane was hit before she could even give her next order. Perhaps she had not taken her opponent as seriously as she should have. She should have paid more attention to her training. The fact that this was her first Pokemon battle was no excuse at all what so ever. With a grunt, Sera accepted Ben's new source of pain as her due and shoved her thoughts into retaliation.
"Did I stutter Bane? Pound it's face in, until it stops moving! You must not have been trying very hard if it can still hit you like a train. Perhaps your not as cool as I had thought you were." Team Magma training motivational tactic number thirty three, worked every time. Bane's eyes sparkled at the insult, was not trying very hard? This was their first official battle together! Couldn't she give a penguin a break? And not as.... not as cool? She thought he was cool?
Bane's eyes glowed with new determination that showed that he was going to do whatever it took to stay 'cool' in his trainers eyes. Putting a dirt covered flipper on each hip the Piplup did his best imitation of the classic super hero pose. "Pip-piplup!""... what?" Sera didn't quite know what to make of something like that, but she approved wholeheartedly as Bane charged in for his next double pounding assault.
This nuisance of a bird was... persistent with its pound attacks. The poor starly could hardly evade them! She struggled and fought to put distance between herself and her attacker but to no real avail. The starly, unable to withstand more of this blatant abuse, staggered and collapsed on the ground, fainted.
Starly was hit by pound! Starly was hit by pound! Starly has fainted! Capture? Bane has gained two levels! Another pokémon?
Status: 75% Health Bane feels stronger! Woo! Sera is looking for more Pokemon!
Bane let out a hearty cheer as the Starly crumpled beneath his terrible might. He felt stronger now, more then he had before. So, surly now his trainer would acknowledge him. Right? With starry eyes the little Piplup skittered back to his trainer and stared up at her imploringly. Seraphine however looked back at her Pokemon with distaste. She hated to admit it, she really really did. But, her Pokemon did alright.
"Good job. Now go find something else to beat on will you? We need to pump up those flimsy looking flippers of yours some more." Bane took that as a compliment of his strength and reacted accordingly. "Piplup!" With a yell, Sera managed to pry the tiny Pokemon away from the vice grip it had on her leg. "Get off me! Argh!" Leaving the Starly where it lay, Bane darted out to look for another Pokemon with Sera trailing not too far behind him.
The rocky little bug crept out from the grass he'd been dozing in, woken up by all the commotion that'd been going on. Still sleepy, he blinked up at the strange human with the piplup and yawned. What was all this fuss ab--
"Dweb?" He looked at the unconscious starly lay on the ground a dozen meters away, unsure what to make of this. They'd done that?
Status: 75% Health Sera ran away from the Dwebble Sera is looking for another Pokemon
Seraphine blinked at the soft sound behind her. Pivoting on her heals she could only stare. A Dwebble, well... wasn't that just interesting. I mean, it wasn't too terrible of a Pokemon to find. But as an opponent for Bane? It was bad. Her failure of a water Pokemon had yet to learn a single water move. In fact, the only attacking move it seemed to currently know was pound. An attack that would be very ineffective against such a Pokemon as Dwebble.
Sucking the inside of her cheek and quickly considered her options. She could of course engage the Dwebble in combat, and spend the next hour or so trying to dwindle down its health while potentially swindling her potion supply in the process. Or, she could just find a much easier target. "Meh." The last option of the two was by far the best of them. Leaving the Dwebble to stare at the fate of the Starly in apparent confusion, Sera made a B-line towards the next encounter. Hopefully it would be something a bit easier for Bane to handle.
The numel munched tiredly on a few berries he'd toasted with a lethargy that made him seem like he was completely dazed. He chewed slowly and blinked even slower. He didn't even give the trainer and water pokémon a second glance as they drew closer to him.
"Nummm..." He murmured through his mouthful of toasted yet juicy berries. These people... better not want to share some of these. He'd gathered them himself. It'd taken a lot of effort... "...mmmel."
Finally, their search was rewarded as right before them was the real prize. A Numel, a fire type. Well, fire ground to be more precise but it was the fire typing that had Sera all hot and bothered. Momentarily she became starry eyed. Would she battle it? Of course she would! She would battle it until it submitted to be captured. After all, it was important to establish dominance early on in the relationship. This Numel was hers, it just didn't know it yet. "Bane. Take him down, failure is unacceptable. Make sure you win."
Bane nodded, determination flashing across it's tiny penguin face. He would make his trainer proud of him, just wait and see! This Numel wouldn't even know what hit him. "Pip-pip-piplup!" Dashing towards the Numel on flippered feet, Bane readied his attack. Two pounds to be delivered, one after the other. You would think that this type of strategy would get old quickly, but it really really didn't. Especially when that was really the only attack move that Bane currently had at his disposal at the current moment.
Oh no... they were coming after his berries... he was a greedy numel who had no desire to share though. He wasn't much of a fighter but... for his food... he'd do whatever he had to.
After receiving both pound attacks, the numel turned around and growled loudly at his assailant. His ears flopped around a bit as he suddenly began to plod after the piplup with increasing speed, aiming to barrel into him with a tackle attack.
"Nummm!"
Numel was hit by pound! Numel was hit by pound! Numel used growl! "Simple" ability activates and growl's effect is doubled! Numel used tackle!
Status: 75% Health Bane Dodged! [1/2] Bane used Pound x2!
For what at first glance appeared to be a slow and dim witted camel, this Numel was pretty fast on it's feet. But, not fast enough. "Bane, dodge that tackle!" That growl was pretty intimidating, so intimidating in fact that she could already see the effects it had on her Pokemon thus far. But even so, she was not going to loose this match. No mater what it took, no mater the costs. She would have this Pokemon and that was simply that.
Bane on the other hand was suddenly not feeling so motivated as he once was. This Pokemon... did not like the fact that they were interrupting it's lunch time. Nope, not at all. The growl only seemed to prove it's point, and Bane shrank back a little as a result. But... even still. Sera was counting on him to win this for her. He couldn't fail her. If he did what would she think of him. Bane's gaze flicked upwards to see the charging Numel coming straight towards him and jumped to the side out of impulse.
"Good. Now again! Pound it some more!" Well... with Bane's attack stat falling even faster then before, was their even any point to skipping the Dwebble? If his attack stat keeps on falling soon they wouldn't be able to do any damage at all! Thus, the most logical course of action was to keep pounding away at its adorable little face until it keeled over on it's side like a good submissive little minion. Yup, that was her game plan here and she was sticking to it. Bane simply nodded, a bit wearily, and did what he was told.
