the song's a lot easier than it was on the balcony. cass sways to the movement, each step following his. it seems like the rest of the world faded away. they're all alone in this crowd of people. this is a moment deemed only for themselves. she squeezes his shoulder and hand tight, because once she leaves she can never go back.
"maybe we're happier in a different universe."cass sighs. maybe they're not the leaders of different teams, or always fighting. maybe it works out in another universe. that they're completely happy and together and how nothing can part them.
but evidently, not for this one.
she wills a smile to grace her lips, even if it's a bit sad. "yeah, i guess i do..." she says. with a final sigh she reaches forward to leave one last kiss on his lips, wasting no time to turn around and disappear in the crowd before she changes her mind.

He eyes the crowds gathering, tipping and weaving their partners around. He watches them all jealously, with a sense of bewilderment. I missed my chance... Envy was a cruel, bitter thing; he couldn't stifle it overtaking him, corrupting him against his very nature. This was what led him to throw a vase earlier this evening.
Dmitri felt terrible about it, after the fact. His shame was showing now, and he was left alone on the dance floor. He hated feeling so out of the picture, perhaps he would be better off running home and staying where he came from. Where he belonged.
But a rogue flurry of blonde caught his attention. Usa? They had been steadfast friends since the day they met, despite Dmitri's rude outburst. I was so mean to him... Yet somehow, Usagi was the best friend he'd made in Hoenn. He kept that thought close, for it gave him comfort.
When he finally did catch Usa's eyes, they were full of joy and merriment. It made him feel awkward, to not be the one sharing the dance. B-but... What had he told himself moments ago, before rushing to the bathroom to avoid embarrassment? You'll be running your whole life... He stood up, Broski in hand, for whatever came next.
No more running, at least not away.
"Risu, tag out!" He hoped Risu wouldn't mind, and he flung Broski into the air after giving him a quick twirl, meaning for Risu to dance with him instead. Perhaps it would put him off, but Dmitri wanted this dance, needed it even.
"I hope you don't mind.~" He clasped Usa's hands in his, and they felt warm but sweaty. Or maybe those were his hands sweating so profusely? He tensed up, but with the swing of the music he pulled Usa with him. It felt so bizarre, he wondered if this was real or a wonderful daydream.
The touch of the other placed on the curve of her back was odd but not unwelcome. There was almost a sense of security that came with the embrace of the dance. The girl took his word with a nod and followed his steps with relative ease. The steps were simple enough and the swaying turns when being led weren't hard to keep up with. That said it did have the gap between the two was thinner than it ever had been in normal circumstances. The warmth from the other body made her constantly aware of her position. That said with her whimsical personality it didn't actually seem to affect her outwardly as she kept up her usual bubbly exterior.
Nevertheless the dancing continued and the two would have looked perfectly blended in with the rest of the duos waltzing the night away. Of course she had noticed the darkened eye behind the mask since she saw it before. As long as both their masks were on however it was easily overlooked. His comment about not leaving until getting his dance caused her to chuckle at his assertion. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. As for what was said about Evan and Noah, her mind wandered a bit as to whether those two would show up to the top floors to actually dance with each other like they both probably wanted. At least that's what she wanted the two to do. It was Miles' words that brought her mind back to reality however.
That was not the worse question in the world. The evening had been eventful near the beginning and the memories of that would likely have her laughing at them later. "Aside from the speed dating... and the fighting. I think it turned out okay," she admitted. To be honest the entire night had been her on her guard for anything suspicious. Unless a drink was sealed on getting it she wouldn't drink it and the food wasn't much touched by her at all despite her really wanting to. "I will say I had my doubts. Being invited via anonymous message to this dance would make anyone suspect something fishy but it's almost the end of the night. Guess I was just worried for nothing." In the final hour after the dancing she thought about actually indulging herself after all. At the corner of her eye the girl noted the first duo parting ways with the woman walking off before the music even concluded and unhappy faces. Could people really break up at one of these places in such a situation?
[attr="class","sv3"]I hear you buzzing, a fly on the wall In through the window and up through the hall Flyin' in circles, just trying to land I see you hurting. I do what I can

Their closeness almost causes him to stumble, but the masked trainer doesn't falter. Through his peripherals he spies a couple part the song not having yet ended. The two of them if he had to say look 'strained' Sadly the man couldn't careless right now, this moment, this dance was theirs and no one could take this away, he wouldn't let them. Even if the mistakes of the evening were of his own doing, partly at least. He's hyper aware now; Of their feet taping on the floor ever so slightly, the swaying and movement of bodies, and even the onlookers. He can't help but wonder if she's just as nervous as he is behind that ever present smile of hers. She was always far more genuine than he could ever hope to be. Still the two continue moving the slow tempo of the song guiding their dance as time continues on the moon almost having reached its highest point.
For a moment the two continue to dance in silence content to simply dance the night away. Another slow spin, "Does that mean I can finally eat the food?" It's halfway a joke the man honestly having ignored the trays of food brought out to the guests. Her suspicion doesn't surprise him, the whole event was a little sketchy to say the least but still the fact he finds himself unable to exit lingers in the back of his mind. Regardless there's no reason not to enjoy what remained of the night, even if it was a ruse or trap of sorts they we're both caught in it. So why not enjoy it?
He finds the song reaching it's climax now. His resolve steeled. Soon the dance would end and they would separate, but it was during this dance he had a point to make. He'd been hesitant for far too long, too afraid of his own issues, and his inability to entirely read a guess Syndra's feelings as well. That being said, he could only trust his own instincts and let the cards fall wherever they may, he could only sit on the fence for so long before he fell after all. He whispers to the girl before the final spin, "Don't be too mad at me, aye?" The song finally reaches it's true climax. The violin and piano spike together, and he leads the woman into a spin finishing the dancing leaning her back holding the girl with both arms. He brings his body forward only a pencil's width away from each other. It's in this position he makes a move that could change their dynamic forever.
The kiss is brief no longer than five seconds at most. The shadow of the trainer's fedora hiding any kind of blush on his end. The man finds his body heavy unable to move from the position. "So...yeah." He waits for a punch in the gut or a slap in the face. Ready to accept whatever came from the event.
Risu was enjoying himself not only was he having fun counting steps he was dancing with his brother, they were not arguing he was just glad he could put a smile on the twins face. After all brotherly love triumphs over all else. Finally as the dance was mid through he heard someone rushing over and a loud oink sound made. What was that?! He turned to see a flying Swinub, yeah when pigs fly right? Dimitri? Guess he really wanted to dance with his brother he simply removed his hands from his brother and went to catch the pig. It wasn't that he understood the situation but broski didn't deserve to be thrown in the air. He would be sure to remember this...
He caught broski with his hands and then cradled the small pig. He simply looked towards the trainer then back to the pig pokemon. "It's okay little buddy I'm sure he didn't mean it." He whispered to the pig who simply replied with an oink.
Usa found himself momentarily frozen by the turn of events. Never mind that poor little Broski came flying towards him just a few moments prior -- the Pokemon seemed unharmed and was safely cradled in Risu's arms -- Dmitri's closeness was way too close for comfort. This is k-kissing range.
Usa's face quickly turned a bright red. An unfamiliar sensation began to build within him. What was it? He felt his hands begin to tremble and his heart begin to race. Was this feeling embarrassment? Was it him being flustered? Nervous? He didn't have a clue. All he knew was that this sensation was slowly overwhelming him. It made matters worst that with each passing moment, the sensation grew stronger.
He considered pulling away. But, the tight but gentle -- a little sweaty -- grip that Dmitri had on him made it impossible. Or, was it that he didn't actually want to pull away? He had found solace in avoiding eye contact and staring at Dmitri's shirt. But, the thoughts that crowded his mind made it difficult for him to stay focused on just that. We're friends. Do friends slow dance? He reminds me of my brother at times. My brother and I were just dancing. But...but, I didn't have this weird sensation. So, what is this?
The thoughts that crowded his mind caused him to unintentionally rest his forehead against Dmitri's chest. It was in that moment that something Usa had never experienced before, happened. The sounds around him began to disappear, and all that occupied his senses was the sent of Dmitri's sweat and cologne, and the warmth from the his body. In that brief moment, Usa was calmed.
There was a laugh at the comment about being able to eat the food but that was it after that. The conversation between the two had suddenly halted. The female wouldn't push for the talking to continue. She assumed that he was simply becoming immersed and focused on the dancing so she had done the same. Listening intently to the rhythm and feeling every small movement that was made, Syndra continued the dance. Acting so regal and proper wasn't her style but she could take pleasure in the activity. It wasn't as if this was an everyday thing.
That was when the delicate whispers swept past her ears. Her eyes narrowed slightly as her mind attempted to discern what that was supposed to mean. It wasn't as if he had done anything wrong. She kept eye contact with the male the entire time up until the rising of the chords in the music. There was no time to question him as suddenly she was released from his grasp with the momentum to twirl outwards. Her hand released the grip she had on his shoulder as she spun, the edges of her dress flaring outwards as the cloth sashayed to the side. The other hand remained in Miles' as she felt the tug to swing back. On that final spin in the opposite direction back towards the man, she realized that her body was way closer to the other trainer than she had anticipated.
It was awkward and mildly embarrassing. She fidgeted as she tried to pretend it didn't happen by creating more space between them but the firm grasp around her returned. The body heat was suddenly more prominent as a stunned Syndra looked towards Miles as if for answers. Once she had what she was met with was the warmth of his lips on her own. Instantaneously a blush rose to her cheeks to which her mask had hid for the most part. When the contact was broken the girl could no longer look Miles in the eye as her jade eyes darted away to whatever else was in the vicinity. There were no words but no violence either as a pathetic little girl stood there breathless. It was a first. She didn't know what to do or what to say like a lost child in a crowd of people. Any attempt at speaking had stopped at her throat.
It was forward and bold of him to do. She hadn't expected it. It had only been a month or so since the two had met and started their respective journeys. How could she have known that everything would have moved so fast? "..." Miles had already spoken after the fact but Syndra was still stuck speechless. The shock had already traveled to her chest where her heart was beating frantically in almost a panic. At the least her hands had moved to push against her chest to stop what felt like the verge of bursting through a dam. The secluded teenager was not used to these things. There was no anger or fear. Nothing but a dumbstruck girl in a dress in the middle of the dance floor.

He's resting against my chest... It was all he could think about; it defined the moment. Dmitri's chin lowered down on Usa's, resting his wearisome head. I can't believe I'm doing this... He pulled Usa with him, edging closer and closer with each shift. Their movements were in tandem, and their bond had never been so strong.
"I want to be like this forever." It was a faint whisper, the tiniest shred of a murmur, so much so that he wondered if Usa had heard the words escape his lips. Perhaps it would be best if Usagi hadn't, but Dmitri wanted him to hear them.
It was as if time stood still and marveled in their union. Somehow they managed to avoid colliding with the other guests, steady and slow as the music they danced to they glided across the floor with reckless abandon. He dipped Usa down, supporting him with an arm braced against his back and his partner leaned into the embrace.
Dmitri wanted to see just how close he could get.
Leaning into Usagi, he found himself nose-to-nose and staring unfazed into the male's eyes. There was a certain foreboding feeling in his gut, like all of this shouldn't be happening to him, and that somebody was going to try and take it away.
But for now, Usa was his, and he couldn't be bothered to think on it anymore. It was time to live.

He still can't really bring himself to move his eyes lost in her own now, red and green mix as the two enter the void. Everything around him doesn't matter; the other guests, the music, the lights... Everything not pertaining to the two at this particular instant had faded away entirely leaving the two in this simulated darkness. She no longer has that whimsical smile, he's gotten so used to now. She doesn't exactly look unhappy, but by no means was she pleased either, the male trainer can't help but assume the worst. Regret wells up inside of him, his mind asking questions that would eventually tear him down, "Did you really think this was a good idea?", How could you have been so stupid?" in a way he's disoriented lost in a moment that he once controlled. His resolve hadn't failed him, nor his heart. No his assumptions had led to his downfall, he'd gambled and by the looks of things lost. The cards had indeed fallen, but it was vapid to think they'd fall in his favor.
He needs to step up guide the girl to safety, but his body still refuses to move his limbs having almost entirely locked up. He has just enough strength not to drop the girl currently in his arms staring at him blankly. Each second stagnant feels like an hour, the two lost in this void of sorts until finally his need to keep the girl safe manages to overpower the strange paralysis that'd overcome him moments prior. He manages to speak up his voice barely a whisper. "Syndra are you alright...? In the back of the his the trainer wants to do what he always does; running away after all is ingrained in him. His thoughts and fear combine continuing to betray him maybe just maybe if he ran fast enough he could leave his problems behind this time around. He knows it's a lie, but the shadows inside him prefer it to the alternative his cowardice having infected his very soul.
"I'm so sorry, lets find a place to sit you down. You wont have to see me for the rest of the evening alright?" His voice is slightly panicked he doesn't know how to move her and so he simply scoops the girl up in his arms a weak smile on his face the scene resembling a fairy tale of sorts. "Don't worry we'll find Evan, a-and everything'll be alright..." He searches for the other red haired man in the crowd to no avail. The man still walking with the girl in his arms Everything falling through his fingers, it's eerily similar to water, no matter how much he tries to hold he only feels it slip away.
I just.... I just really like you. A lot." He speaks as he walks eyes still focused on finding an open table to seat the girl, having left the dance floor entirely moving past people carefully. "I was a fool, but I can at least do this right." The man's eyes scanning the crowd looking for the red haired boy or even his black haired friend at this point.
His words made it to the girl but she had yet to talk or move yet. She did manage to focus on her breathing, the shallow breaths turning into slow deep ones. This managed to calm her a bit. Sort out everything in her mind. As if rebooting a computer her functionality was beginning to return one at a time. More words. An apology?
Syndra blinked, her jade eyes refocusing from their glazed over state. What had he said? Why would he suggest not seeing him for the rest of the night? Was there a disconnect here? Realizing that she was no longer on her feet and everything around her was moving, she blinked again. She was caught off guard from the intimacy and contact that happened but unless he didn't mean it there was no reason for him to apologize right? Flexing her fingers to confirm that she could move them again she gradually moved her hand up to grab hold of the sleeve of his suit. The grip she had was weak and she only managed to pinch the cloth with her thumb, index and middle finger but it was enough. "...No" she somehow got the words to her lips in a volume loud enough to be considered audible.
The breathing evened out enough and while it was awkward that she was being carried in the man's arms it didn't concern her too much. What did bother her was the way he acted so concerned as if she had truly been injured. As if something valuable had been broken... had it? Syndra wasn't so sure anymore. Her lips parted again to speak, her tone lighter as if unaffected by the moments prior. "It's okay. I'm okay." It would be undetermined if these words were to Miles or to herself. There was no doubt in her mind that everything would be alright. It was amusing that his first thought for help would be Evan though. That at least helped break Syndra out of whatever it was that was caging her ability to do anything. "You don't need to apologize. I wasn't prepared that's all."
Synda acknowledged that the action happened. There was no turning back now. She couldn't pretend otherwise. When all was said and done a different smile than her normal one shifted onto her face. A serene smile that appeared genuine but too innocent for even the green haired girl that was behind her mask. "I'm flattered. I really am," she spoke softly in a way that matched this smile. "I'm just not sure how to react. I'm not sure how I feel or how I should feel other than that."
This shit was hot. People, food music, this is what Erick had moved away for. Who the fuck invited him may not have known what they were doing, but the would soon regret it. The young man chowed down on monstrous proportion of food, indulging in the savor of the flavor. After some more chomps, he drank a bit of whatever they had, and started to feel a manageable looseness. His appetite was temporarily satiated as his plat and glass were both clean. How much money did throwing one of these things take? That was the main thing he wondered about as he looked at all the fancy outfits 'round him. As for Erick? He wore a three-piece with a reddish-orange vest and tie, as well as a black mask that covered his eyes and part of his nose.
"That was some good eats!" he said to his table before getting up. "Now, who wants to go bring this motherfucka down?" Without much of a reply, he grabbed the nearest female and took her out there. Things had slowed down music wise, but Erick barged through to the middle of the dancefloor. As people waltz, the energetic guy started to whip, bending his knees a bit and thrusting out one arm, moving it in a swivel motion. His head followed suit and his partner desperately tried to keep up, confused by his movements. He threw his hands up and started to move his hips while moving his flexed arms. How he had as much mobility in the suit was something that should not be question. Air continued by letting his right leg move in a circular motion criss-cross hopped when the music got dramatic, then switched to the other leg. These people weren't ready for all of this right now, but he couldn't care less because he was having a ball!

It's only when he's at the height of his worry does he feel the girl respond. She'd managed to pull on his suit jacket enough to get his attention in turn causing the man to slow for a bit making it to a table. All the while his thoughts and fears continued to run rampant. Somehow the trainer manages to keep it together His muscles stiff as the girl begins to speak her piece. His focus is almost harsh hanging on every word choosing to stay silent and simply listen not to the sound of his heartbeat, or the fears that plagued him, but to the girl's words which started just as shakily as he was.
He's not used to this, getting close to people that is. Up until about three months ago even the concept had been a taboo for him. He knew how to interact with society, hiding himself behind walls of lies always being the person someone needed him to be no one ever having the slightest semblance of things he actually thought and felt. The concept of honesty was... foreign to say the least.
He'd set out on this journey because he wanted to find something; the reason behind his fears, and purpose in a sense, all this among a number of other odds and ends that all led to one base thing. He wanted to change. Now he finds himself here this girl who he's been truest to still in his arms. Her gaze lingering on him, the warmth in her body only second to his own, now.
As she continues the girl becomes more cognizant regaining her wits at a quick pace, something he's thankful for at the same time dreading how this conversation ends. Her answer is simple, in that she has no answer for him. Not knowing entirely what to do the man sits the girl down his smile unchanging despite the dull ache in his heart. It's not bad news, but it's not good either. All in all it leaves the man feeling vulnerable, a feeling he hasn't felt in years, it's feeling he despises most.
His heart turns inside and out, he figures now is the best time to excuse himself. "I... I don't think it's a question of should." He manages his voice still steady. "No worries." it hurts to smile now. "I'll give you sometime to think it all out. me being around can't really help that. I'm gonna find Evan and make sure he check up on you alright." He turns away from the girl moving away slightly now. "The way you froze up really scared me you know?" With that the man turns not waiting for a response, he needs air and fast his facade crumbling at the seams.

emma weaves in between the people around her, her white dress flowing behind. it sure is romantic right no. emma wants someone to dance with, too. but her marriage proposal had gone and went, emma found herself alone again in this big old room. it's okay though, she doesn't mind. she's just content with walking around. it's not long before she spots that green haired girl that was on a date with niko. wow! and she's dancing with someone else too! emma walks up to them and slightly tugs on the ends of syndra's dress.
His smile hurt to look at. She could barely hold her own and it felt like she had broke something with the way that the male responded to her words. He was completely silent as she had spoken. The care he had taken in placing her down into a chair was also noticeable. Everything he had done was done in a way that was like handling a porcelain doll. The status quo now broken the man pulled away from her. Her strength had not yet returned and so could not hold him there. Could not bind him to remain there. She didn't even know if she wanted to. Feebly watching as he slipped away from the light grip she had on his sleeve.
He mentioned Evan, her mind reeling at assembling a face with the name. The nice red haired man. The one she suspected was gay. Why was Miles going to him to see if she was alright? Not that she had the courage to ask as her eyes laid on his turned back. Expressing concern Syndra could only shift her gaze down to her hands, her fingers lacing slowly together in a timid manner. The green haired girl was no timid person however this was what she chose to focus on for now. Her mind didn't want to think on the why things happened. Perhaps this was best for now.
Shutting her eyelids to shroud her eyes from reality the light tug on her dress pulled them back from the darkness. It was a light tug and the jade irises turned to see the familiar small girl from the speed dating sessions. The attention was taken as recognition as the one she remembered as Emma began to ask that same question even back at the dating rooms. Marriage. It was still too early to be thinking on such things and it came at one of the worst possible times. Shouldn't girls usually be happy at the prospect?
Her lips were pursed tightly together as a brief stillness was instilled across her form. How would she even respond to that. Would she treat her like a porcelain doll just as Miles had treated her in the last few moments? Or would harsh reality crash down? She had no answer but her lips parted to speak what she could manage. Her arms had moved first however before the words came, enveloping the small girl in a hug and cradling her tiny form. No words were actually spoken and Emma's true innocence came as something should be cherished. The night was almost over and hopefully this would all turn into a dream.
she looks to him. shy, bashful. it's her fault for making him feel like this. after all. she was silent for only a brief of moments before looking at him. she was silent the whole way. no. this wasn't her time to be shy. she needed to be strong. for now. this night would be over soon.
looking at dylan, she felt her face heat up again. even if they were making eye contact, fiona felt shy still. they've only known each other for a couple of days, on and off, considering they've been busy with their own personal things alongside with magma duties. being so close to this person, it makes her flustered. no wonder why she kept quiet.
"...i don't mind..." she softly replies as she follows his lead. This was quite fun. who knew dancing would be an enticing thing for her, especially when it involves her going rounds with dylan. is this alright for her?
she holds him, close to her a slight bit. afraid she would fumble and mess things up for the two of them dancing. "...sorry if i'm horrible at dancing..." she softly spoke to him. hopefully he wouldn't mind at all.
strawberry barks, his small legs moving about as he looks at the riolu, enjoying the presence of the pokemon.
