"Why am I back here, again?" He kicked up some dirt, idling by the side of the road. Trainers came through here regularly, he intended to prey on the new ones. It felt like a villainous tactic, but his pokemon needed to grow strong.
Boosting their confidence would be a start. Another trainer passed by, but they refused to battle. Something about linear routes; he didn't quite get what they were saying.
"Hey, you there!" Another lone silhouette trudged up the road, strutting down the center of the road. He seemed to have an air of confidence about him, or perhaps Dmitri was simply imagining it.
"Care for a battle? Nobody else is interested." Dmitri wouldn't bother to explain the fact he'd been to several other cities before, and had managed to acquire an impressive set of pokemon. Because to be fair, most of them were still weaker than most trainers' pokemon.
Today, with any luck, that would change.
Dmitri blocked the way, to garner the stranger's attention. If he meant to pass, he would gladly remove himself. But he hoped insisting so heavily would provoke the trainer to rise to his challenge.
If it had been you that he beat to a bloody pulp, if he had taken you from this world, I would've done nothing but search the planet for this pathetic pile of evil death-worshiping garbage and sent him off to hell.
❞
It had been some time since he had been here, almost like he was forced to drudge his way through the region all over again like some new trainer on their first journey. He sighed, brushing his hair back with his hand, mostly of it flopping back into place on the top of his head instantly while the rest slowly inched it's way back slowly. Soft blue eyes wandered around the route, having just passed through Petalburg, getting the things he needed. If there was anything positive to say about the things back here, it was that, despite the reoccurring scenery, he had made some very nice progress on his team. It wasn't until his eyes caught sight of the forest that he also noticed something else just a ways off.
"What the hell..." He said to himself, narrowing his eyes to try and get a better look just at what was yelling at him. It was definitely a trainer, that much was certain - a normal person didn't stand on a route like they were locked in place. Jeremy started getting closer, a soft breeze running through the area causing his shirt to flutter to the rhythm it created. A battle? Jeremy would have accepted regardless, but the man had stepped in front of him, blocking his path. Taking in a deep breath, Jeremy closed his eyes and arched his back, cracking several bones from their idle positions.
"A battle?" He said as his eyes split back open. "Sure, I could use the warm-up." Jeremy said with a sly grin spreading across his features. He was never normally this cocky without his mask on, but something told him that he would be in good company with this kind of attitude.

"Alright! I was beginning to think nobody would bite." Dmitri adjusted his stance, grabbing at a spare pokeball with Bawss inside. It would help him get a feel for the other trainer, and their pokemon.
"This here's Bowser." It snipped at the air, as if to intimidate. If it got its claws on something, it was surely a force to be reckoned with. But his reach wasn't the farthest, and his legs even tinier. Yet Dmitri stood strong, adamant he could secure victory. He doesn't look so tough.
"So, what pokemon will you be using...?" Anxiously awaiting, he hoped it was something new and interesting. It would prove useful for his pokedex, but Dmitri honestly hadn't much of an intent on completing it. There were just too many to count, at least for him. Enough stalling.

"Let's just hope you have just as strong of a bite." Jeremy mentioned taking his place several paces back from the other trainer. His eyes locked with the other males before watching as the male sent out a Skorupi. Jeremy would have loved to have his mask to check out the little bug type, but nothing seemed to work out that way, did it? He chuckled, nodding at the Skorupi. "Pleasure Bawss...I'm sorry for what's about to happen." The man may have been part of Magma, but he never liked the mistreatment of pokemon. His eyes drifted back up to the other trainer. Now would be as good a time as any to bring out houndour, get a quick knockout and just be on his way with the rest of the battle.
"No..." He said silently to himself. His hand then moved back to Shinx; he could use the training here but there was another. "Alright, then this one is for me." He tossed the pokeball lazily before the red light erupted majestically and a small, shelled pokemon emerged. Jeremy's eyes caught the Shuckle, and Shuckle back at his trainer. Their stare seemed to have lasted ages before Jeremy narrowed his eyes and grunted. "This is..." He never actually gaze the pokemon a nickname, did he? He sighed and rubbed his head. "This is Rolph!" He shouted out quickly before shaking his head. It would work for now.
Jeremy had type advantage but Shuckle's attack was so piss poor it was really a sitting duck. For now though..."I'll start things off. Rolph, lay a sticky web down!" The command was quick, and with it Rolph turned to face the other pokemon, laying a large area of web all over the immediate area for the opposing trainer. "Follow up with a rollout!" Perhaps he could build up enough momentum to deal some serious damage.

"Shuckle? Aw man, this isn't good..." Dmitri hoped it didn't know any Rock-type moves, they would devastate Bawss in moments. He noticed the pokemon drop webbing everywhere; perhaps he could knock it off? It was worth a shot, so Dmitri followed through.
"Knock Off on the webbing!" It was a wasted attack, but Skorupi managed to keep most if not all pesky strands of webbing free from his body. Yet as it closed the gap between it and the enemy, a Rollout came directly for him.
"Flip over it and Bite him!" Skorupi dodged, using its tail to give it extra altitude over the Rock-type attack. Sommersaulting through the air, he landed on the Shuckle's shell and latched on for dear life, before digging its teeth towards the pokemon's elongated neck.
Bawss used Knock Off to remove Sticky Web!* Bawss dodged Rollout! Bawss used Bite!
*This move doesn't actually function this way, but held items aren't on site so I figured knocking off the web was plausible. This move won't actually land a hit on Shuckle though, so I hope it's okay for free form.

"Rolph, withdraw!"Jeremy commanded the instant the skorupi leaped onto his back. It was a shame that the sticky web was gone, but it let Jeremy see what this man was going to do, and what he was willing to put his pokemon through to get the job done. He valued their safety, at the very least but there was something else. He was aware of the danger that Shuckle proved to be, despite it's appearance. He needed a moment to think though and with one withdraw up it wasn't going to make much of a difference.
"Rolph, come out and encore!" The trainer demanded. He had a plan but he needed all of the stars to align for it to be just right. His hand rose up to his chin, rapping against the skin gently. If everything worked out the way he needed it to, this trainers commands weren't going to make a single difference in the world. "Stay on your...er...shell Rolph! Be ready!"

"Reach into the shell with Poison Sting!" Shuckle had withdrawn into safety, and penetrating its shell was impossible. Even moreso, landing a Bite or Knock Off while it was safely secure inside was impractical; Skorupi's mouth couldn't reach that far. But he could more than easily stretch his tail into the holes dotting its only defense.
Bowser sent a powerful thrust of his tail into the shell, hoping to make dodging impossible. Depending on how big Shuckle was inside the shell, it seemed unlikely. But just in case, Skorupi would have to be ready for another attack.
"Again!" Another quick flash of its tail lashing out into the shell as Bowser was still clinging to Shuckle's exterior. He seemed to feel confident he could win, and Dmitri didn't have reason to falter in this judgement. Win or lose, they were still victorious in defeat.
Dmitri liked to believe as much, anyway.

"Rolph, stay with me okay?" The shuckle cried out in pain as the Skorupi dug it's tail, which was just small enough mind you, to fit into the holes of his shell. Jeremy needed to think quickly, and without hesitation his eyes locked onto Shuckle. "Rolph! Use Constrict!" The shuckle quickly released all of it's tentacles and tried to wrap them around the tiny scorpion. "Now, before it can get away, roll out!" Jeremy shouted loudly. The shuckle, once more without hesitation began rolling with the skorupi still on top of it. Whether or not it worked out in Jeremy's favor or not was yet to be seen but he could tell from the cry...Shuckle was poisoned. Jeremy needed this to end, and end fast or else Shuckle was going to make it much longer.

"Keep Stinging!" Dmitri wasn't sure what to do; Shuckle had latched onto Bowser, binding them together before Skorupi could get out from Rolph's reach. This isn't good, Shuckle was certain to try another daring Rollout. It would end Bowser's chances if it landed.
"Sting him harder, he might lose his grip: That's your only chance!" Skorupi's last chance was to get Rolph to let him go before the Rollout decimated him. Clamping down his teeth one last time, he managed to release himself from Shuckle's confines and evade the Rollout.
That was too close. Bowser flexed, trying to look intimidating. If Shuckle came around for another Rollout, Skorupi would be doomed. It was coming down to the wire, and Dmitri hated the suspense. Bowser didn't seem too comfortable either.

"Dammit Rolph!" Jeremy exclaimed loudly before his eyes wandered around the battlefield. His lips parted gently, calmly taking in short shallow breaths. He knew what he needed to do, but Rolph was poisoned and the other trainer knew that. He knew that the shuckle was on a timer and if Jeremy didn't do something fast, that was going to be the end of it all for his shuckle...but he could do something for the rest of his pokemon. He may have been on a time, but that didn't mean Jeremy had to just let the other trainer go unscathed. "Rolph, lay another sticky web and then constrict again!" He needed to close the distance between the Skorupi and his shuckle. Damage this Skorupi enough so that his next pokemon could just come in and clean up.

"Get close to him Bowser!" Shuckle's defenses were incredulous, but Skorupi was making progress. Still, it took a lot out of him to keep charging the creature and eventually a single misstep would end the battle. I just have to make sure it's not my misstep... Easier said than done for Dmitri.
"Sink your teeth into it!" I hope Bowser can regrow broken teeth... He watched as Skorupi's fangs bounced off the shell before catching the Shuckle's exposed flesh, but Shuckle seemed to recoil towards the shell's interior instinctively. Quit hiding and fight! Though it wasn't fair to suggest the Shuckle abandon its strengths to fight Bowser.
"That Shuckle is one annoying bugger!" He wasn't sure if he meant it as a compliment, but he hoped the stranger would take it as one. Flattery wouldn't get him anywhere, but this pokemon was impressive. It might not have the greatest attacks, but the defense was more potent than anything he'd ever witnessed.
What's it doing!? Shuckle reached out and its tentacles lunged for Skorupi, binding him to its shell where it crushed him against the rough and tough surface. It refused to relent, tightening its grip on Skorupi. "Bite the tendrils!" Skorupi did as he was bid, and a single tendril retreated from his attack.
But the rest kept him bound, and didn't seem to stop for him. What do I do...?

Thousands of thoughts coursed through the mans mind all at once. He could still win this battle but did he want to? If he kept things going the way they were, he could lock his opponent into a move that just wouldn't matter in the long run or he could have shuckle escape, delay it's inevitable doom and try and keep this pokemon from earning it's victory. Jeremy took a deep breath before closing his lips and his eyes. He needed to think. but he had to do it fast; the cries from his shuckle ever so clear. Though it didn't take the man long, and with his resolve clear, he nodded in agreement to the other mans statement.
"You're right. Shuckle - Rolph - is a problem for those who aren't prepared for him." The statement was simple, but Jeremy paused before his eyes fell to the shuckle. "Alright Rolph, Encore again!" The shuckle clapped two of it's tendrils together, insinuating an encore while the poison was slowly, but surely ticking away at it's life. "Alright, now rollout! We can still win this, you just need to build up enough of these!" Jeremy knew better than that. The damage had been done, and without proper medicine, Shuckle was going to faint...and soon.
"This was Rolph's first ever battle, so I think he's earned a rest after this." Jeremy added, his head tilting to the side cracking his bones before tilting again to the other side doing the same. He had no opinion on the Skorupi just yet. How it handled Shuckles replacement was all that mattered to trainer.

"Encore is the real threat here." At least it's Bite and not Poison Sting this time. By this point Dmitri couldn't really offer much for Bowser, except his admiration. He was sticking it out fairly well, though there was an obvious lack of raw power against the Shuckle.
"Next time I see a Shuckle, I might nab it." Not that he particularly was interested in the pokemon, but it definitely had its uses. Skorupi was preparing to chomp at Shuckle when he began rolling around with Skorupi still bound.
Skorupi was slammed into a nearby surface, and the attack did a number on him, yet his teeth managed to sink on another set of the tendrils encasing him. Bowser chomped madly, thrashing and eviscerating what he could fit within his miniature mouth.
Dmitri would tell both were ebbing in vitality, but the competition wasn't down for the count yet. Skorupi struggled to get free, but Constrict still encased him. It was getting down to the wire.

And that was it. Without so much as a second thought, Jeremy stayed silent. The encore worked, and the rollout did what he needed it to in damaging the Skorupi to such a point that cleaning it up wouldn't be a problem. Jeremy took a deep breath once more, reaching for the pokeball that belonged to his Shuckle. The last cry from the wounded Rolph was enough to let the trainer know that that was it. "Rolph, return!" He shouted, pointing the ball toward the Shuckle as a long red line erupted from the center of the ball, pulling the Shuckle back into his capsule. "They have their uses that's for sure." Jeremy said plainly. He contemplated who to send out next. There was always the option of the easy knock out with Houndour, but then again Houndour was his strongest pokemon and he needed to keep him away for the worst possible situation.
"Alright, let's go Zatch!" Jeremy shouted before tossing his second pokemon out; a small shinx appeared, his ability kicking in instantly. Though it wasn't very clear to Zatch what his ability even did. He was more worried about the battle itself. "Alright, let's make this fast Zatch. Tackle it twice, and let's see this battle to the end!" He hoped that the shinx was ready for this, but he had a good feeling about Zatch, and the rest of this battle.

"That was pretty close." Dmitri could see the enemy wasn't too dismayed over Shuckle being fainted. That must have been the tip of the iceberg. He waited to see what Jeremy sent out next. He was delighted to see a Shinx appeared.
It came out lean and fierce, lashing at Skorupi and fainting him before he could react. It's fast! He recalled Bowser and started contemplating the pokemon's chances against Broski. Too easy, I want a challenge.
"I'll send out my Abra, Hoodini." From then on Dmitri went quiet, abusing Abra's telepathic connection. Teleport out of Tackle's reach. He did just that, all in a moment just as Shinx barely missed and crossed where he was moments prior.
Now, Dazzling Gleam. Abra had a vantage point high above, levitating in the air using psychic power before launching his assault. However the move didn't have the greatest reach, and Hoodini was forced to bring himself closer to Zatch to strike.
"Zatch is pretty interesting." He wouldn't want one of his own, Electric-types weren't his forte. They often got him more trouble than he'd bargained for. But Zatch was something else.
