It worked just as he planned; Zatch entered the battlefield and without so much as a second thought defeated the Skorupi with his tackle. The other trainer on the other hand hadn't wasted any time, returning his other pokemon and sending out it's replacement. This time it was an Abra, and unless the man was mistaken Abra's didn't know anything worth using. That was until he used Teleport and escaped the view. 'He didn't say anything, he must be using Abra's innate psychic ability to communicate with it. I need to be careful.' It was because of this that Jeremy had to assume one thing. This Abra had a means of attack. Why send it out at all if it didn't know how to fight, but even more than that the Abra vanished from view. It wanted to be hidden.
"Zatch! The Abra is going to attack you, be on guard. I'm not sure what they have up their sleeves but we need to be ready." The shinx nodded, because much like it's trainer it was focused. He was nervous, and he was scared, but that didn't mean he wouldn't fight with everything he had. Jeremy turned his head from side to side, trying to focus on the area in front of him. "Zatch, face me. Watch behind me, and I'll watch behind you. If you see the Abra, start darting from side to side. Keep it guessing." Shinx nodded and while the two of them may not have had a psychic link to fall back on, they did have commands.
It had only been a moment before Shinx started to move around. This gave cue for Jeremy to turn his head. The abra was starting to glow. "Zatch, close your eyes and rush at me. On three roll. Avoid direct contact with Abra!" Shinx nodded and began charging it's trainer. Jeremy waited, the glow of the abra gettign brighter and brighter before Jeremy started again. "One...two....three! Roll and jump to tackle this Abra out of the air!" Jeremy turned back toward the trainer, watching as the light from the attack started to fade as the two pokemon went back to their battle. "I want you to try and tackle a second time! Keep the pressure on!" Jeremy's eyes locked with the other trainers. "You could say that. Zatch is still young. He has a lot to learn, and hopefully this will do just that."

"That's a lot to try and keep dodging Abra's attacks." If he wants to put all that effort into it, who am I to stop him? Still it seemed rather clumsy and telegraphed what the Shinx intended to do. Let the first one hit you, but dodge the next attack
Why not the other way around?
Eh, it's not like it matters either way, right? Hoodini was an interesting pokemon to have conversations with. Like he'd suggested, Abra let the first attack strike him after Dazzling Gleam missed the target. Just unleash Dazzling Gleam as much as you can.
You think I didn't already know that?
I'm the trainer here, don't ever think I'm going to give up barking orders. But I'm glad you agree, at least. Hoodini floated towards Zatch, attempting to strike him once more with Dazzling Gleam. He generated the light in his palms and it burst in a brilliant display of vibrant pink energy.
You've been getting faster with that attack, I've been noticing. Are you trying your best for me?~ It was meant to tease Hoodini, and perhaps it was a poor idea to distract him with flattery. He seemed to ignore the comment for now, though the attack came much quicker than the previous one.
"Zatch is pretty resilient." He eyed the foe, wary of what might have happened if the pokemon knew any Dark-type moves. I thought they learned Bite? Hoodini shuddered at the thought, but was relieved the enemy hadn't revealed knowledge of this particular move. Or could he be hiding it?
Hoodini was hit by Tackle! Hoodini dodged Tackle! Hoodini used Dazzling Gleam! x2 Hoodini is standing by!

This wasn't good. Abra had taken one hit but dodged the second, and Jeremy couldn't hear anything the two of them were saying to one another with their psychic link. He wasn't sure what this meant for the two of them, but if this continued then it would mean the end of the line for Zatch. "Okay Zatch, you're gonna have to take this hit like a champ!" Jeremy yelled, the first bright line coming through; Zatch, on the receiving end, narrowed his eyes and yelped loudly. Jeremy didn't like this, but this was the only way. "Okay, charge toward the Abra!"
Zatch did just that, keeping their pattern much more linear. "Slide under the Abra to dodge the second attack!" And without a second thought of hesitation, Zatch closed his eyes and slid forward. "Now leap up and tackle again!" Zatch stopped mid slide, leaping until his head was aimed right for the Abra's gut. "Again! Don't let up!" Zatch's level didn't help, and his small move pool only made their attack pattern that much easier to predict, but perhaps one of the attacks would hit the sweet spot that Jeremy was aiming for.
"You're pokemon, both of them thus far, are very well trained. I don't know what you plan on doing..." Did Jeremy offer the man a once in a life time opportunity? Would his boss even allow for that? Perhaps not as he was now, but she was the one that recruited him. He shook his head and decided against it. He swore to keep everyone in that life away from who he was without the mask. "You'll be a force to be reckoned with for sure," Jeremy laughed, keeping his eyes on the battle.

"You flatter me; I just have the advantage. If your Shinx knew Bite, Abra would've been screwed." Hoodini ridiculed him for making Abra sound weak and feeble, but it was the honest truth. It didn't seem fair to relish the man's praise when there was a deeper truth to the odds. It wasn't by any particular knack or skill Dmitri had for battling.
In his moment of distraction, Abra had allowed Shinx to strike him with Hoodini unawares, a critical hit at his flank. It was enough to send him spiraling to the ground in a cloud of dust. Abra tried to sit back up, but his muscles were underdeveloped. Dmitri...! Hoodini panicked, reaching out to his trainer. I-I can't do anything!' It was a battle; Dmitri had to let it play out.
Once again Hoodini had lost to an opponent he shouldn't have. ...I'm a horrible trainer. It was ironic the man should praise him so, only to defeat his pokemon moments later. It hardly seemed right, and he questioned it deeply. But there Hoodini lay, tackled once more while he was on the ground. He gave out a shrill cry before going still, and their telepathic connection was broken. All my fault...
"That was unexpected... but I still have one pokemon left." He sent out Broski the Swinub, who came out snorting and stamping at the ground. He could tell Dmitri was in a sour mood; it was an innate sixth sense they both shared. Swinub quickly isolated the Shinx and leered at it, digging its paws into the ground. SWINUB!!!!!!!
"Ice Shard, twice!" Swinub's mouth was gaping, forming a small ice crystal that suddenly whisked towards the Shinx rapidly. It quickly followed up with another, relentless in its pursuit. If Shinx had already fainted, it would wait for the next victim to appear to attack it with the consecutive Ice Shard.
Hoodini fainted! +1 Lvl Broski used Ice Shard! x2 If Zatch faints on the first, target next pokemon.

"Perhaps, but we can't wonder on the what ifs...What if I hit the sweet spot? What if they miss...will my attack be enough? We only have our skill and the tools at out disposal. You came better prepared than I...I just hope we don't pay." The man mentioned these things, but was he watched the battle unfold his eyes opened quite widely before falling back to normal. "How Ironic..." Taking a strange, but beneficial turn toward left field Zatch had won.
It was a shame watching the Abra; not because the Abra had lost, not even because Jeremy felt bad, but because it shouldn't have lost. It had earned the victory; it was much better trained, and it had obviously battled before. Jeremy on the other hand had just gotten Zatch and while Zatch was Timid in it's own right, not feeling the sting of defeat was going to get the better of him if the trainer didn't nip it in the butt now. It was because of this that Jeremy simply smiled as the trainer before him sent out his next pokemon. It was a terrifyingly strong pokemon, he knew this. Jeremy simply watched. The Swinup roared loudly, and without hesitation his trainer shouted out commands.
"Hmmm...." Ice shard was an interesting move; it always seemed to go first, even with the speediest of pokemon battling them. That didn't concern the man. Instead Jeremy watched without uttering a word or command. Zatch waited, waited...waited. The ice shard struck and it was enough to do him in. "You'll learn from this...trust me." It may not have seemed that way, but Jeremy knew what he was doing. At least, that's what he told himself. "Interesting...so do I..." This swinup was going to be very difficult to take down, but if he played his cards right, he was sure that the two of them could come out on top.
"Come on out Zetsumei..." With a quick flick of the wrist, and a timely shift to the side, Zetsumei dodged the incoming second set of shards. "No time for words. Zetsumei, use Leer twice! We need to soften this thing up!" It was just then that the Houndour lowered it's head, bared it's teeth and growled at the Swinup. His intention clear; Make it possible for Zetsumei to knock this beast out.

Dmitri couldn't be bothered by the leer, and instead tried to focus on the situation. This Houndour's probably faster. But there was something Dmitri relied upon meekly; if Jeremy hadn't thought far ahead enough to realize Ember didn't take advantage of the physical defense's drop. But this was coming from the child who didn't know enough about egg moves. Swinub was about to become ready-to-serve bacon.
"Alright, use Tackle!" He tried getting close, but Houndour came in with a savage disposition, snarling and grabbing him in its jaws. Broski! It shook him violently for his transgressions, before tossing him aside, charred.
"Broski... shoot an Ice Shard, i-if you can!" Swinub meekly raised its head, hoping to vqnuish the foe with a sudden attack before it closed in. Yet it was ineffective and hardly served to delay the beast as it lumbered over to Broski; it almost too much for him to stand by and just watch.
"Are you okay, buddy?" Dmitri idled by, gawking at Broski struggling to stand for him. Just give up if you want, I won't blame you... But he pushed on, defiant and unwilling to relent despite the inevitability of the situation: Broski endured.
Broski used Tackle! Broski used Endure!

I've decided to scale Broski down to approximately the level he should've been. But I don't know the moveset so I'll just use what his current one is minus Earthquake to keep it fair.

"Interesting..."Jeremy said to himself, his eyes watching as the Swinup stopped. The two of them were at a stand still, but Jeremy needed to let something happen. "I take it Broski here was your starter?" Jeremy asked, smirking and points toward Zetsumei. "Zetsumei here has been with me for some time now. He's seen me through some seriously bad things." The lines stopped there as Jeremy noticed the Swinup taken aback, and shooting ice shards toward the houndour. "Zetsumei, tank it and rush in! Use Fire Fang!" The houndour nodded and lowered it's head as flames started to protrude from it's mouth.
And with a quick yelp and a dash, the houndour was on the Swinups tail. Quickly chomping toward the pig pokemon. "Don't let up, fire fang again!" Houndour did just that, once more chomping toward the Swinup. "So, Dhmitri, what's your plan? Beat all the gyms and become the champ?" Jeremy only had one plan, and that was to eradicate Aqua, but that was the extent of it, though it seemed like it was all he was anymore. His hatred for the opposing team having taken over so much of his life that he couldn't even imagine a life without it. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
"I don't know about myself...Life's too short to decide now, right?" A lie, but the other man wouldn't know any better.

"Broski's been with me since the beginning, yeah." He watched Broski get nipped not even once more he nearly fainted. Geez... Well it had hardly gone as expected; this Houndour was something else. Pa's Mamoswine wouldn't let a little heat keep him down... Boris had been gifted with Thick Fat, while Broski had yet to grow into such a massive beast as of yet. He could only watch on, partly ashamed, partly to blame.
"Well then..." Broski curled up into a ball and whimpered, oinking and wincing from the burning sensation left by those nasty jaws. Stepping over to Broski, he scooped him up and backed off.
"I suppose that means you've won. Good job." The man talked about things kind of funnily. It's like he's trying to be vague or something. Shrugging it off as was characteristic of his doubtful nature, Dmitri waved to Jeremy.
"I'll catch you around some other time. You heard of the summer gala event?" He seemed to think he should, and without a second thought made arrangements for them to meet there. "Catch you there? Maybe we can get another battle in, too! I'll be much stronger by then, though, so you'd best prepare." Dmitri's bravado remained ceaseless, but for tonight he would lick his wounds. Criminy, will this bad streak end?
