"Hellooooooo!" Oh man, I'm feeling nervous. Butterfrees flopped around in his stomach, making him feel light and bouncy but also on edge. It had taken a lot of courage and some inspiring words from Syndra to coax him into taking Norman's challenge.
Dmitri hoped he wouldn't leave here an utter failure.
"Anybody there?" Am I supposed to send out a pokemon first? He pondered, but thought it would be smarter to wait and see what Norman did. Perhaps there was a likelihood the Gym Leader had already left early for the day.
"Helloooo?!" Much louder this time, his voice cascaded across the massive arena around him. It came as a surprise that this sort of stadium had been erected within the confines of such a small building; perhaps there was some trick to the design? He shook his head, refusing to cloud his mind with stray thoughts.
norman walks out into the gym. someone has entered. he's excited to see the prospective trainers earn their first badges. they are always either cocky, scared to death, or somewhere in between. sometimes both.
he grins at the person across the stage. "alright, welcome challenger." he throws out a pokeball. sentret rises from it's place, ready for a battle.

"Alright then!" Who to choose... how about Bowser? Grabbing a pokeball he shoved a finger into the front button, releasing a cute looking scorpion. Except it was cruel and bitter towards most, even the trainer at times.
Skor....That's all you have to say? No snapping your claws fiercely? Dmitri didn't know it, but Skorupi was actually nervous. Being inside a building for the first time, it was quite the intimidating experience. Its senses were overwhelmed with the reverberations of every single movement cascading across the walls.
But it stepped forward, clacking against the floor and presenting itself. "Bite at the Sentret's tail, it uses that for balance!" If I can make it uncomfortable balancing on the tail, its reflexes won't be quite right. Skorupi scuttled towards the Sentret, fangs bared as it leapt for the furry critter.

sentret braces itself as the skorupi nears. its jaws clicking in anticipation. it's manages to get ahold of its tail, clamping onto it painfully. sentret cries in pain. it furiously rolls into itself in an attempt to dislodge the pokemon, and scratches at it's eyes in panic.

Skorupi only managed to barely wound the sentret before it rolled itself defensive, to which Skorupi merely attacked head on despite this defense. As his chompers made to clamp down a second time, sentret scratched at his eyes and he recoiled, wounded by the attack. But he came back with a vengeance, chomping at sentret's body once more.
"Great work, Bowser; use Acupressure!" He calmed himself, getting limber and harnessing his latent offensive power. His muscles flexed beneath the carapace, ready to ravage the furry pokemon set before it. He might've tried biting on it once more, but Dmitri had something else in mind. Whether it panned out for him was the question.
"Poison Sting!" Bowser leveled its stinger, taking aim at sentret from a few feet away. A lavender hue coalesced there, before a single prick came whisking for sentret. Bowser seemed content to sit and wait for now, offering nothing more than a blank stare. Is he alright, did it get his eyes?

Rolled 1-5 for Acupressure, got 1. Seeing as pokemondb listed them in this order: Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, Special Defense, Accuracy or Evasion, Attack was the stat raised. Should Speed as a stat be ignored too? Maybe rolling out of 4 is more appropriate for free form; I'm not sure. Any thoughts?
the poison sting hits her on her stomach. sentret keels over from the pain, feeling the rush of venom in her blood. fire courses through her veins, and with the last of her strength she runs forward to tackle the pokemon.

Skorupi charged forward, intuitively aware of sentret's poisoned status. Lumbering forward they crashed into each other, Skorupi sustaining a serious tackle before shooting another poisoned bolt at sentret, intending to silence it.
Again it shot, another skewering blast point blank to make sentret still. Without another word Dmitri withdrew Skorupi and sent out Broski in its place. That wasn't so bad, let's see how this next one goes. Swinub sniffed at the air, taking in the scent. He snorted and huffed, but otherwise seemed at ease.

Switching in Broski led to him taking an early hit by the enemy's Ember, which Dmitri thought was unsporting. Can't a guy make a switch when you do!? Maybe that's not how they dueled here. Still, it's not a big deal, Broski's doing just fine. He figured Broski knew how to handle it from here, but he hesitated at the sight of the gym challenge, so Dmitri said with emphasis: "Return the favor with Earthquake?!" Anytime you're ready.
Broski jumped awkwardly into the air.
And when he fell it was with an impressive force, coming straight for litleo was a localized tremor quaking the ground beneath its itty bitty paws.

I thought maybe the Gym battles would be like they are in the games, where their switch prompts you to switch. My mistake! I'll keep this in mind for the future, thank you. :c
the earth shifts and shakes under litleo's feet. she falls to the ground. lights flicker. the ground suddenly breaks apart, and a spike of rock impales her from underneath. it's an easy attack.
norman cringes at the state of his gym and returns the litleo. slakoth materializes before him. he gives off a yawn, scratching idly at his ears before disappearing and reappearing on the other side with surprising speed to swipe at the pokemon.

Slakoth... Dmitri had heard some interesting things about the unseemly mascot pokemon Norman used. It was reportedly lazy but could become incredibly aggressive, known to turn the tide of battle just before it seemed to lose. Gotta stay focused!
But it merely yawned. Is this some sort of trick? It abruptly faded into the background, before lashing out at Broski unseen. I didn't even see it move!
"Powder Snow!" Broski projected a torrent of snow-laced air towards slakoth, remaining stagnant otherwise. Yeah, don't get too close Broski. Slakoth had this unnerving expression, like it had done this a hundred times or more, and wasn't even fazed by the offensive Dmitri was demonstrating. It's just like Sylvester's Slowpoke...
"Use your Ice-type moves to stave it off, and keep a distance from it Broski!" He didn't want to think about what might happen if Broski set out to brawl the slothful creature face-to-face in battle. It would get out of hand assuredly. Broski, don't do anything rash... Swinub had a knack for being bold at the exact worst opportunities, unfortunately.
I hope today isn't another one of those days. But just in case... He retrieved Broski and sent out Bowser, hoping to dwindle the enemy down before sending Broski out to finish the job.
Broski was hit by Feint Attack! Broski used Powder Snow! 10% to Freeze. Dmitri swapped Broski for Bowser!

LAIKA OF GANGNAM STYLE
cilalic So, does Feint Attack have that it can't be dodged going for it, in our setting? Or am I still able to dodge?
the powder snow freezes slakoth's fur. there's ice clinging to slakoth as it yawns again. it's truant and refuses to listen to orders. the pokemon is forced to endure the attacks while norman waits to the side.
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Aug 19, 2015 4:28:19 GMT
Truant, huh? Dmitri couldn't understand the significance of this pokemon if all it tended to do was disobey orders. But there was no sense worrying over that, it merely stumped him momentarily. Why bother with such a disobedient pokemon, though?
"Bowser, use Pin Missile in rapid succession!" Skorupi took aim and began firing, though one could hardly keep track of the projectile's movements. His aim was particularly attuned, and he managed to score several hits on the enemy slakoth before it rose and retaliated against Bowser's onslaught with a vengeance.
"Knock him out already!"

Mind rolling Pin Missile for me? I would've but figured it's better to just let the opponent roll since otherwise they can't know 100% if I did actually roll. :c
