they had decided on rustboro city.
andrea had found the area favorable, especially since she preferred to battle within the confines of the city. the pokecenter was right around the corner - and nostalgia tended to motivate her in multiple ways. this was her kind of city, after all. her surroundings were bustling and filled with a bounty of sights and smells that left the girl missing home.
"he should be here soon," she said.
"ches?"
jade beamed up at her mistress, an excited gleam in her eye.
"ready ta see yer former owner? it hasn't been that long. huh! maybe you'll wanna go back fer all i know," she purred.
the grass-type chittered in an amused fashion, clapping her paws together and shaking her head in reassurance.
"ha," andrea chuckled. "i'm happy yer apart o' the team now."
leaning against the solid structure that was the pokemon trainer school, she awaited the male's arrival. andrea was eager to encounter her rival, and wanted to show him something she had received recently due to her having participated in that forsaken gala. at least something else good had come out of it.

a night like rough silk, a heartbeat of ice
It'd been a while since he'd last heard of Andrea. Granted, they'd only really met that single time for a battle, and then briefly a couple of times more to trade pokémon, but both her and her team had left quite an impression on him. When she'd texted him with the simple proposal of a battle, he found himself actually looking forward to seeing how far she'd progressed. Andrea, last time, certainly hadn't been anything close of a pushover and Kris doubted that the battle to come would be easy either.
As a trainer, she was talented. As a coordinator, Kris honestly saw her as a worthy rival. These battles were a good opportunity to gauge how much of a competition she'd turn out to be.
Kris gazed about the street he walked down, the recently hatched snivy in his arms mimicking him but with much more unguarded curiosity. A city setting for a battle definitely was a promising one and a welcomed change of pace. Walking around the corner, he spotted the recognizable streaked hair of the girl - inky black with a couple of stripes of colour - and began heading over to her. On his heels, his usually placid chikorita perked up considerably on seeing her as well. Briefly, Lotus had belonged to her but it was a nice surprise to see his old trainer.
"Chiko!" He chirruped, trotting ahead a little of the blonde coordinator, leaving him to walk a little more briskly to catch up while he waved to Andrea.
"Hey, Andrea," Kris said with a widening smile, his eyes dropping down to the chespin near her; the grass type he'd traded in exchange for Lotus. "Chespin's lookin' great, I see." Not that he'd doubted her. Andrea was a crass individual but, when it came to pokémon, she was very attentive and caring. Hyazinthe, the snivy in his arms, squirmed around slightly as he adjusted his hold on her. His hand mindlessly stroked her back to get the baby to calm down again. "Lotus has been doing pretty well too though," he trailed off, his smile fading down to a vaguely challenging smirk. "I think he's lookin' forward to showing you how much he's grown."

she noticed lotus, at first.
"yo!"
andrea returned the chikorita's friendly wave with her own, her grin widening as she recognized the pretty features of her rival - kristmar mortensen.
or, ya know... krissy.
"krissy! lotus!"
both coordinator and pokemon hurried to greet the new arrivals. the female's grass-type pressed closer to lotus and kristmar, a friendly smile on her face as she welcomed the pair with gusto.
"huh. aaah, i see. yeah, he is lookin' pretty impressive. aren't ya, pal?"
she chuckled, eying the four-legged creature before she took notice to the snivy that krissy had cradled in his arms.
"oh! is this yer newly hatched snivy?" andrea asked, directing her attention toward the baby. "hey there, 'lil bit. now, aren't ya a cute one... she's real small, krissy. jester was sorta bigger when he was a baby. maybe it's 'cause she's a lil' girl instead of a boy."
"ches! chespin," jade chattered, striking up a conversation with lotus.
"so. ya good with a... four on four? maybe five?" she asked, gesturing with her hand.

a night like rough silk, a heartbeat of ice
Krissy. A brittle glint shone in his crimson eyes for a fleeting moment on hearing, yet again, the cutesy tag Andrea appeared to have given him. He... let it slide for now though. He doubted that bringing attention to it would solve the problem anyway. If she started getting too comfortable with it though, perhaps he'd say something.
The chikorita pranced a merry circle around his old trainer's ankles before letting his attention wander to the other grass type. After a moment's wary hesitation, Lotus greeted the chespin too with another wave of his fragrant leaf, knowing full well that this would likely be his opponent. "Chi, chi!"He chattered in return as he sat his pudgy body down on his hind legs and silently sized the chespin up. "Chiko!"
Kris' hold on the smaller pokémon in his arms tightened snugly around her and his gaze lowered to the little girl who thankfully didn't appear too fazed by being approached by an unfamiliar human. "Yeah, just hatched... she really is a tiny, little thing," he replied, "thought her watching a battle and getting to see your team in action would be nice experience for her." Now that he thought about it... this was exactly what he'd done with Adelaide, his ralts. Back when they'd first met, the ralts had been very young and Kris had turned their impromptu battle into a valuable learning experience for her. It was a little uncanny how certain aspects of their first meeting were repeating themselves.
"Sounds good to me. I can go four or five," or even six, seeing as Hyazinthe was only a companion today and he'd been allowed his full team. "We'll see how it goes... Lotus." Kris flicked away some stray strands of silky hair from over his face and gestured for the chikorita to put some distance between himself and the chespin he'd been talking with.
"You wanna go first?" He asked, his eyes narrowing with a playful hint and his lips pursing into another faintly entertained smile. "Seeing as last time you technically lost. Only seems fair."
Post by andrea warren on Jul 28, 2015 21:01:03 GMT
"ya know i'm sensitive, krissy. ya might make me cry," she drawled.
her smile remained despite her words, memories of what had occurred previously playing on repeat as it was brought up. her loss had been due to miscalculation and general weakness on her team's part. but she was also at fault for a lack of solid strategy. andrea had cleaned up her act a bit since then, having carefully reviewed her team before even requesting a battle.
they were ready.
"alright. jade! go."
with her hand resting upon the curve of a hip, she gestured to her companion with a simple nod.
"ches!"
the creature darted forward, bouncing upon her pointed toes as she playfully bared her teeth at the composed lotus.
"tackle!"
jade darted forward, throwing her body toward her stout foe with intent to harm.
"bite!"
her jaws snapped toward the leafy appendage, a pleased grin on her face as her gaping maw neared the grass-type.
"ya know! jester's gotten plenty strong, too! i bet he'd like ta meet yer lil' girl, there! ain't too many snivy runnin' 'round these parts, lately," andrea hollered, glancing in krissy's direction.

It didn't take them long before their battle officially began.
"Ready, Lotus?"
As soon as the chespin grinned toothily at Lotus, the quiet chikorita lowered his head and prepared himself, his large decorative leaf pulsating in alert waves. When Jade began to move, so did he, in an attempt to outmaneuver her first incoming attack. His stocky body raced to the side in a large arc, his tiny feet skittering over the pavement as their sought traction, but it wasn't enough to circumvent the chespin. He grunted and took the two physical attacks.
"Return her tackle!" Kris told his pokémon. "Get close enough to her and throw a poison powder at her!"
Recovering quickly, Lotus regained his balance and went on the offensive instead. He turned himself towards the chespin and set off towards her at a gaining gallop to use the momentum of his stout body to knock into her with considerable force or, at least, give himself the chance to hurl a cloud of poisonous spores at her with as much precision as he could.
"Hyazinthe would probably like that, wouldn't you, girl?" He turned his attention briefly to the grass pokémon in his arms only to see her entirely engrossed in the battling creatures. "She hasn't seen another snivy yet. How's Jester doing anyway? He must be pretty big by now, right?"

"ches!"
after snapping her jaws shut once she had managed the task of harming her foe, her features twisted into a grimace as she was struck by the tackle that came her way. a frightened noise escaped her once the poisonous spores followed.
"c-ches!"
without having to be told, the grass-type fled - aware that the toxic mixture would cling to her lungs and sap away at her strength.
"chespin!"
"keep runnin' girl!"
andrea only gestured for her grass-type to come to a halt after the spores had faded entirely. the pokemon panted, her chest rising and falling as she eyed her opponent with a weary look on her round face.
"bite! and then another!"
after a brief period of hesitance on her part, jade lunged forward, once again snapping her jaws - fully intending to latch onto the grass-type with her teeth.
"he's gotten bigger, yeah! he was just an egg last time i showed him to ya! how's that ralts of yers doin'?"

A flicker of concern passed over Kris' features as he watched the chikorita frantically try shaking off the chespin's onslaught of biting attacks. Her small yet sharp teeth punctured his soft hide and all the grass type could do was painfully struggle until her grip on him slackened enough to escape. Lotus scampered away with a considerable limp, his head lowered and his fragrant leaf quivering atop it. Those two attacks had taken dealt quite a fair bit of damage and even Kris could see that.
"S'alright, Lotus," he encouraged the recoiling pokémon, noticing how his eyes seemed transfixed on the female's teeth. "Shake it off and tackle her!" The chikorita squinted and retreated a couple of steps more, as if bracing himself for a sudden attack, ignoring Kris' order for a moment. "Hey, Lotus..." Kris tried again, albeit in a softer tone. "Alright... poison powder then. Don't get too close."
Lotus appeared a little more willing to use that attack, seeing as it was one he could use at a certain distance. He gave a shaky nod before skittering forward a little, wary of getting too close and being lunged for. Again, the chikorita threw a cloud of violaceous spores towards his target with the hope that, this time, at least some would be inhaled or land on her pelt.
"Some time's passed since then," Kris said with a light sigh, although it'd only been a month or so at best, keeping an eye on Lotus as he spoke. "Adelaide's doing great! She's grown up a lot since last time, you'll be able to see for yourself." Kris let a humoured smile curve his lips on recalling a deciding event of their battle as he mentally went through what pokémon he could remember Andrea having. "And that bagon... Sheeva... she still falling head over heels for any dragon she sees?"
the grass-type made a strangled noise. the cloud that the chikorita had produced having successfully splashed against her small figure. blinking away tears in response to the burning sensation that caused her flesh to itch, the pokemon could only gag and cough as her coordinator cast her a worried look.
"shit."
purple energy and bubbles crackled and emerged from the young pokemon's form. she continued to totter about in response to the terrible sting.
"bite!"
eyes snapping open, jade released a noise akin to a snarl as she struggled through the discomfort and lunged toward the stout creature.
"ches! chespin!"
with a fierce look in her eye, she continued her savage assault with bared teeth - even as the poison that now swirled within her innards sapped away her strength.
"keep goin'!"
squeezing her eyes shut, she moved in for another strike.
"ha. very funny," andrea replied. "she's doin' fine! that handsome dragon of yers close ta evolvin'?"

Managing to poison the chespin was enough to bolster Lotus with a bit of much-needed confidence. He was able to prance away from Jade, making her teeth miss his tender body by just the skin of them, although his luck wasn't so great with her second attempt. The chikorita made a noise akin to a pained whinny as she bit him and he instinctively recoiled away from the smell of the poison infecting her.
Bitten and sore, Lotus struggled to stagger away from the toothsome chespin. He was substantially weakened at this point and Kris could imagine that he didn't have much fight left to him. His body was awash with pain and he was growing increasingly more and more tired, but at least it appeared to mute the gripping fear he'd felt in regards to the chespin's bite.
"Just a little more, Lotus. Get her with a couple more tackles."
At this point, Lotus was honestly ready to turn the towel in. Fighting so brutishly conflicted so much with his placid personality. A little fair scuffling and friendly tussling was fine by him but fighting to this point of exhaustion wasn't exactly his style. He saw the appeal to it but he still had a lot yet to learn. He obliged his trainer's wishes though and charged off for the chespin in a last burst of energy, spurred on by the idea that the sooner he ended this, the sooner he'd be allowed a lovely rest in the cozy confines of this city's pokécenter.
Despite the tense point this round had gotten to, Kris let himself give a low chuckle, a quiet and rumbling noise in his throat. That hadn't been a no nor had it been a yes. Sheeva could still be chasing dragon tails for all he knew. He shook his head at Andrea. "Nah, Deimos still has a while to go yet. He's made a lot of progress but... you know how long it takes to raise dragons." Another chuckle but this time accompanied with a worrisome glance at Lotus. "A hell of a long time. But what about Sheeva? She close to evolving?"
the severely weakened chespin released a grunt, pain flashing across her already pinched expression. andrea quickly noticed that this particular match up was drawing to a close. both were battered and breathing heavily, the pair hanging on by a thread as they proceeded with the battle. but, due to her species, jade was enabled to dish out a bit more physical damage in comparison to lotus.
"almost there," andrea muttered.
satisfied by her pokemon's performance so far, the girl called out to jade as lotus closed in for a second tackle.
"dodge!"
scraping together the remainder of her energy, jade executed a dodge. her movements were hampered due to her own fatigue, but she managed the action despite it all.
"now, tackle!"
once the command was spoken, jade rushed forward, a growl slipping out of her mouth as she lunged forward.
"she'll get there," andrea replied, licking her dry lips. "she'll be a shellgon before ya know it!"

a night like rough silk, a heartbeat of ice
And that was that; Lotus was unable to endure more of this incessant abuse. He felt a sliver of gratitude though that his end wasn't met at the chespin's teeth but, rather, in the form of a tackle which in comparison wasn't so bad. Kris, on seeing the chikorita finally succumb, rubbed his cheek worriedly. That wasn't the best of starts to a battle but, to be fair, Lotus had done a fine job anyway and his opponent had been left quite weakened herself.
"You were close, Lotus... well done." He told the fallen grass type who was only able to utter a faint noise in acknowledgement of his trainer's words as he lay there strewn on the pavement. Kris returned the chikorita to his ball with a little smirk over at Andrea and he selected his next choice. "Not bad," he told her, "you certainly haven't been slacking with that chespin since you got her."
Kris tossed the pokéball he'd selected out into the street, releasing Terelle, his young horsea who, immediately, recognized the female human from their last brief meeting. He gave a nicker and fluttered his dorsal fin. The blonde let the seahorse have a moment to greet Andrea and check out his surroundings before throwing him straight into battle.
"Terri, chespin's pretty weak," he said to the horsea once he was ready, "so get her with an ice beam." Ice beam which, coincidentially, was the move Andrea had taught him after their battle. This would be a nice chance to show the girl how well the horsea had taken to the ice-type attack. Terelle made a musical tooting noise with his snout before charging up and firing a powerful beam of shimmering ice towards the flagging grass type.
Post by andrea warren on Jul 29, 2015 23:07:47 GMT
the world had become a multi-colored blur as she stumbled away from her fallen foe. and jade could only hear the sound of her own breathing as her chest rose and fell in rapid patterns. andrea's voice could be detected in the background. but the grass-type wasn't paying attention, really. no, not at all.
"c..."
the pokemon felt a warm sensation envelop her as she acknowledged her own victory.
"c...chespin," she muttered.
"she's evolving!"
andrea was the first to notice this, gaze clinging onto the small body that proceeded to shine. despite the grass-type's weakened state, the evolution had occurred in mere moments. it revealed a round shape, the stout yet strong-looking creature blinking as she peered in the horsea's direction.
the ice beam struck.
and she fell.
"oh. jeez," the coordinator commented.
both elated and somewhat disappointed by the circumstance, she quickly recalled her newly evolved pokemon.
"...huh."
andrea pursed her lips, eyes the familiar horse whom had greeted her warmly and nodded.
"alright. let's keep going."
she introduced tanya to the field next, the fearsome feline baring her teeth as she was summoned to fight.
"let's get this one over with. tanya, spark!"
the electric-type conjured up the attack without mercy, directing the harmful flow toward the water-type. she repeated the action seconds later.

O-Oh... Kris hadn't expected to bear witness to chespin evolving but it certainly was a awe-inspiring moment to behold. Chespin had grown so much since he'd traded her to Andrea and this, along with her victory against chikorita, was solid proof of it. Andrea, despite her little personality flaws and quirks, really was an excellent trainer. If he wasn't careful, he'd likely find himself eating her dust someday.
But, as marvelous as this moment was... he pretty much went ahead and put a very sudden end to it with his horsea's finishing move. Oops. The poor chespin-turned-quilladin hadn't even had a second to check out her new and improved body before she was rendered unconscious. Kris felt a little bit... bad about that. Embarrassed, too. The blonde gave a nervous titter and rubbed the back of his neck with slight awkwardness.
"Sorry about that... I should've held off a moment." Man, he really should've. It wasn't everyday someone's pokémon evolved in, like, the midst of battle! Perhaps that was why he felt as though he somewhat deserved what rapidly came next.
Terelle only had time to cower in the luxio's intimidating presence before she was swiftly dealt a crippling blast of electrical energy. The water type was defenseless to such a move and, as easy as that, it left the small pokémon twitching on the pavement, electricity crawling over her filmy skin in crackly flashes.
"Oh... well, then," Kris murmured to himself, his eyebrows climbing higher in surprise at how little resistance his horsea had been able to put up. "Gott..." Andrea had another beast of a pokémon on her team? Fuck. He should've known that her froakie (or possibly a frogadier by now) wasn't going to be the only hard-hitter she'd have on her team. It was a good thing, at least, that he had the perfect pokémon to send out now and, most likely, Andrea would already be able to guess who he planned to use next.
"Right, Deimos," he said to his gible as he released him onto the paved pitch, "I'm gonna need you to pick up the slack. Open up with sandstorm!"
Deimos first... took his time - on noticing Andrea - to glance around in the hopes that his little lady friend would be about. But, with slight disappointment, he didn't see hide nor scale of that magnificent bagon. Sigh. She wasn't even around to spectate the number he'd deal on this luxio. Kris, guessing what was bothering the stockily built dragon, rolled his crimson eyes expressively and shifted his weight to his other foot. Soon enough though, the wind began to pick up brusquely, bringing with it sand that would harshly whip past the contenders on their improvised battle field.
"Now sand tomb!" The sandstorm, shortly after that order, appeared to begin concentrating around Andrea's pokémon. The gales grew more intense and more laden with sand, starting to enclose steadily more around Deimos' opponent.
Post by andrea warren on Jul 30, 2015 14:21:11 GMT
andrea was thinking.
she was thinking really hard -
- on how to somehow turn this around on krissy as effectively as possible. as her pokemon squinted her eyes and snarled at the oncoming storm - and her pokedex buzzed to alert her of something new - the coordinator pursed her lips. squinting her eyes as the storm composed of earth raged, she hurriedly fished out her electronic device.
"dodge it, tanya!" she called, somewhat distracted.
a grin formed after she eyed the new entry.
"tanya!"
as she called out, the feline was in the process of dodging the sand tomb that would trap her in a choking mixture of dried clumps of earth. it was obvious the female pokemon was suffering, a grimace twisting her pretty features as she was forced to remain vulnerable against the tempest.
"roar! i know ya can do it! look at deimos! and roar!"
the electric-type spared her mistress a bewildered look before her gaze slowly shifted toward the dragon.
"roar!"
the pokemon paused briefly and then opened her maw wide. no noise escaped from her at first. her jaws snapped at the air, a look of frustration crossing her features before she inhaled sharply and then released a terrible noise. a red glow engulfed her.
"again!"
unwilling of risking failure on her part, andrea urged her electric-type to continue. and she did, the surrounding airs visibly rippling as a result.
