Chances were that even if the young man on the bench hadn't stood up and called for her attention, Maya would have stopped to squee over his Zorua companion. Being new to the trainer life, it hadn't occurred to her to expect random challenges from strangers on the road. Consequently, when she found herself on the receiving end of just such a challenge, Maya found herself at a loss for words.

"I... Well, that's one way to introduce yourself," she said uncertainly, glancing the boy up and down. "I'm guessing you want a battle?" Even Maya was having trouble believing how nervous she was all of a sudden. But then again, battling wild Pokemon was a completely different kettle of fish from facing off against another trainer. It stood to reason, right? What if she messed it up? She had no idea how this thing was supposed to go. Was it all of her Pokemon against all of his? Bartleby would do well enough, but what about River and Inigo, who'd barely been out of their Pokeballs since she'd caught them?

After briefly consulting with the telepathic Ralts that was perched on her shoulder, Maya decided honesty was the best approach. "Ah, jeez... I've never actually fought another trainer before. So how do we do this? My name's Maya, by the way."
