The day was such a bust, Bunny had been trying to train all day but hardly any wild pokémon showed up. If she couldn't even train, how was she ever going to become a top-notch Coordinator? It takes more than just looks!
In defeat, Bunny plopped onto the grassy ground with her Dratini, Diana, wrapped around her arm. The pokémon gingerly removed herself from her trainer and heaved what sounded like a tiny sigh.
"I'm sorry girl, we probably should've headed for Oldale today instead. But it's getting late. You wanna head back to Littleroot?"
The Dratini sighed once again and gave a small nod. Bunny picked the dragon pokémon into her arms, used to her weight and size by now, stood and began to turn back in the direction she came.
Except... where was that again?
In a sudden wave of panic, Bunny realized that in the dimming light of day, she had no idea where Littleroot was!
"Um... Diana... do you remember where we came from?"
"Tini?" She seemed just as confused as Bunny.
"Well..." Bunny exhaled loudly in defeat, returning to her seated position on the ground, "looks like we're gonna be here for a while...."
This was just another time for her to keep on going. Another time for her to keep on moving. Given a girafarig, the girl calls it a simple name. "Jerome!" she calls out to the pokémon, far ahead of her, awaiting for the adventure left untold. "You shouldn't walk to far you know, I don't want you to get hurt or anything." She furrows her brows a bit and looks nervously at the pokémon. With what looks like a smile on his lips, the pokémon nuzzles it's nose against her cheek. She can only laugh a bit.
Maybe it would have been better if she took a train? Or maybe drag along a new bike with her! That would have been nice. She's brought back the memories of when she first rode a bike. I kept on hitting a lot of trees. But it was worth it. Got to Kanto and then to Johto in no time. She was happy at the memories of those long ago.
Long black hair and storm greys, dress in a black and white uniform with a long red scarf. Long socks and brown loafers. She looks like any ordinary school girl really! Well, one can only assume that. She just couldn't be bothered to changed into any other clothing really. Even if most of the clothes she buy are quite the "Plain Jane" type.
Jerome went on forward again. While he was more on getting to the next stop; the girl was more than happy to look around her surroundings and enjoying the environment around her. She winces only a bit at the thought of how hard it would be for her to get pass this place without a map. Luckily, a pokémon has better sense of guidance than her.
Across the way, far up. There's a girl, long brown hair -- wait, is that a dratini in her arms? She looks defeated. As if someone recently beat her to her own game in a way. Ai looks around warily and calls back to Jerome. No use on letting someone being by themselves! She walks over with a smile. "Hi! You look kind of lost, need any helping out? Err...assistance perhaps?" she smiles at the girl.
It had only been about five minutes before Bunny decided they were going to either sleep or make it through the night until sunrise so they could find back. Diana was already beginning to nod of quietly in short naps, but Bunny felt oddly exposed. She didn't want any mischievous pokémon ransacking her bags either, she spend way too much time trying to prepare poképuffs the other day....
Wait, what was that? Bunny swore she heard a rustling sound, but maybe the night was getting to her head. A feeling of ominous anxiety was creeping up on her, tickling her spine. Were there any ghost pokémon around? Because it sure felt like it.... Maybe she should sleep....
And then she heard a person, calling out to a "Jerome". Yep, this was it, it was a human ghost and she was gonna be haunted for life. Frozen in sudden fear, Bunny couldn't force herself to look around for the source of the call. Footsteps were easing closer and closer to her, Diana stirring awake. Wait — ghosts didn't have footsteps!
Bunny jumped as the person spoke up again, this time a little closer. Her heart was thumping in her chest as she stared up at this unfamiliar girl, and her cheeks flushed with shy embarrassment. She really hoped they couldn't see.
"Ohmygosh, I'm sorry, you scared me a little. But, um, I mean, I don't want to bother you... sorry.... I think I'm fine, really... um...."
Nervously playing with her hair, Bunny avoided eye contact with the trainer. Although she did want to get off of Route 101, she didn't want to bother this trainer at all. But if she was willing to help, she guessed it wouldn't be that bad.
"Actually, um, if you wouldn't mind... I'd really appreciate some direction. Um, if that's okay, I mean."
This wasn't too bad! She at least met someone who was en route to Oldale, just like her! Ai shifts her footing a bit, in order to get things in the position she wants. Brows in furrow, the girl then shakes her head and then, nods accordingly. She was no ghost, she makes herself know of that. With a nervous laugh, she smiles at the girl. "S-sorry for that, I didn't mean to scare you, but yeah, I'm fine with showing you to Oldale really." She was happy to help out really. At least no one (she knew) was around to see her. That was a good thing really. "But you have a rather cute Dratini there."
Jerome stands at Ai's side by this time, a snort from him. "Hey now, you're not supposed to do that when people are in need of help," She turns to look at Jerome and tut.
"I was on my way to Oldale, so, I wouldn't mind on helping you out," she grins. "But, before we get going, why won't we have an introduction to ourselves?" she winks playfully at the girl. Fixing her scarf just a bit the girl holds her hand out. "I'm Ayako, trainer and on my way to be...eh, the very best...I guess? And you?"
Nervously brushing her hair out of her face, Bunny looked at the ground below her and took Diana into her arms. The girl had really spooked her, but she hoped she didn't make her feel bad about it! If she kept acting like this, the other trainer would probably start worrying, and Bunny didn't want that. So, in a sort of rush, Bunny came to her feet and faced the girl and forced a nervous smile despite the blush on her face. "O-oh, no, it's fine! To be fair, I shouldn't have been sitting down in the middle of your way!" Fixing her hair again, she added, "A-and I'd really, really appreciate the help.... Again, only if you don't mind..."
When the other trainer mentioned Bunny's Dratini, her worries began to quickly melt away. Looking at her pokémon, Bunny said, "Yeah, I got so lucky with her.... The professor just gave her to me at random, and she's seriously perfect for me. It's incredible.... Oh, but, um," she stumbled, "are you also one of the beginners from Littleroot? There's been so many of us lately, I kind of assumed I guess...." Diana was alight with pleasure, already fond of this new trainer. She loved getting compliments, and it made her physically squirm in Bunny's arms as she quietly squealed in delight despite the other trainer's Girafarig seeming less than thrilled.
"Oh, don't worry about it," Bunny said with a faint laugh as the other trainer scolded her pokémon. "Some pokémon, like people, have a natural knack for competition. It's not a bad thing!" She nudged Diana in her arms to not only calm her down but also motion towards her. "This girly right here gets super determined in a battle, you should see her! She doesn't always win, but she does try her hardest, and that's what really counts in my book."
When the girl told her she was headed for Oldale, Bunny's heart sunk. "Oh, actually, we were headed back to Littleroot.... At least that way is someway familiar, right? Sorry, I really don't want to make you back-track, so maybe you could just point me in the right direction or something? So long as I know which way to go, it should be pretty easy to find my way back..." She rubbed her head, feeling embarrassed again. She really hoped this trainer, Ayako she said her name was, wouldn't go through too much trouble.
It took her Bunny a few seconds to realize that the trainer had introduced herself though, she once she did she hurriedly complied. "O-oh! Sorry, sorry, nice to meet you! I'm Bunny Beckett, and I'm a Coordinator. I'm sure you'll be a wonderful trainer, though, especially with such a strong-looking pokémon by your side!" She resorted to complimenting Ayako's Girafarig, as she felt he needed a little recognition after Diana being complimented so graciously.
Oh, this was alright. Not too fast and not too slow. The girl was more than willing to go her own pace and Ai appreciated that! The thing is now, how would she be able to help her out a bit more?
"O-oh, no it's fine, I mean, you're not in the way at all," she laughs lightly. Her hand to her mouth as she tries to contain a bit more of her laughter. A reminder of how much she would end up in the middle of a walk way and sometimes people would question if she was kicked out of her home, yet again. "And I don't mind helping others, really, I don't."
She's a hero after all, the Moon tarot in her breast pocket as she then tries to think of a subject to say as Bunny keeps on talking. She's fully of energy for someone who's lost, she thought to herself cheerfully.
At the mention of battle, Ai's ears perks a bit and she nods. "Hey, once we get to Oldale, you and me should battle then. For training purposes and for some other reason too, what do you think? But, it's nice to meet you Bunny."
The compliment for the girafarig was not needed, but, when Jerome heard of it, he immediately puffed himself out, made himself noticeable by his size. "Thanks, honestly, he's just another trouble-maker really, just thinking he can win in all the fights he throws himself into a whole lot."
"Anyways! Shouldn't we get moving then? Don't want to get stuck her way in the dark with no light don'tcha think?" She smiles at Bunny before turning around. Her scarf in movement to hers.
"Well, only if you're sure...." Bunny resigned, deciding to follow the other trainer after all. "I guess we could just go to Oldale, it would be better for us and our journey anyways, right Diana?" The Dratini nodded in agreement.
Bunny began to follow Ayako's pace, keeping her steps equal with the other's. At the mention of a battle, she perked up. "I'd love to battle, if you wouldn't mind! Both Diana and I need some experience, so if you ever want to, just ask! We don't even have to wait to Oldale, either. I think I have a small flashlight in our bag if we need some light later, and I also have a Dedenne on my team that might be able to help light the way." She didn't want to pressure Ayako into a battle, but having one would really help Bunny open up, so the mentioned it anyways. However, if the trainer wanted to wait until Oldale, that was perfectly fine, too!
Giggling, Bunny thought about her pokémon in battle compared to Ayako's. "I think all pokémon, to a certain extent, must like competition in some way, even if they don't know it. Aren't people like that, too? I mean, I guess some of us don't like it, but most of us want to be the best we can be, and I think that counts for pokémon, too."
Well, they were getting somewhere to say the least! The girl was more than willing to comply and help her out. At least she wouldn't be lost...or lonely... She felt her chest constrict a bit as she thought of the boundless of -- rather endless of memories of her being alone on the road. Safe to say...she wasn't liking it at all. It made her feel awkward and have a sense of denial. Damn...I want--- her thoughts stop short as Jerome is by now, at her side, walking beside her. With a cheerful smile the girl gives him a pat on the head.
"Well, we'll battle once we get there then!" she smiles happily. "Honestly, I thought being a coordinator you have to worry more about your looks than anything else in the world. But, guess I was wrong in a way."
Hearing her explanation, Ai couldn't help but nod. There's some ways that all of humans would compete with one another for something more...worthy. "I can drink to that...if I ever drink or...something," she says with fluster. Darn, quit losing composure here Ai.
She's nervous. safe to say. She didn't know what to say at all. It would have been safe bet to get a conversation going, right? With a nod the girl glances over at Bunny. "Just a question, is Bunny a nickname people give you? Or is it your actual name?" she asks, but was quick in her reply. "I-I mean, you don't need to answer that if it's personal or something."
"That sounds good to me," Bunny nodded as they planned to battle once they made it to Oldale.
When Ayako exclaimed her perspective of Coordinators, Bunny giggled. "Although the performance is what we get judged on, how do you make a performance?" She asked this question avidly, petting Diana in her arms and looking up to the star-littered sky. "Discipline and hard work is the foundation for anything complex, and with battling and training and practice comes grace and confidence. Many times I've seen people go to contests where they think a pokémon did an unsightly performance, like using Dig followed by Mud Slap, but gain a high score. They would complain that this was some sort of rigging, that the judges were bribed, but they failed to see what actually mattered — how well the moves were executed, how well they flowed together, and how disciplined and practice the pokémon and the trainer were." Sighing happily, she looked back to Ayako. "Battling is important to any Trainer, Coordinator, and Breeder. A companion to pokémon has to understand it's pokémon to perform with it in any way, even if it's a task considered "easy", like breeding." She paused. "At least, that's how I see it."
"Oh!" She said after a moment in slight embarrassment. "Sorry, I just went on a tangent. I don't mean to talk so much, but sometimes it just falls out of my mouth like sludge on a Grimer! Ahah... my bad...." Bunny hoped the trainer wouldn't get too annoyed with her rambling.
She nearly found herself daydreaming as she looked down at Diana, who was lightly snoozing in her arms now. She wondered what time it was, but forgot about her Pokétch on her wrist and didn't check it. Ayako speaking almost made her jump again, but Bunny quickly regained her composure and giggled quietly at the question.
"Yep, my name is really Bunny! It's on my birth certificate and everything!" Snickering quietly, she said, "My Dad says that I was so cute when I popped out that they couldn't think of a better name. Funny, huh? I like it though, I think it fits me pretty alright even though I don't hop around like a Buneary!"
Hot damn. She's nervous really. Ai was more than sure that this would not bode well for her if she keeps this up. Again and again. But, what intrigues her most out of the conversation between them was how she explains the coordinators to her. Well, guess they aren't always the spoiled rich bratty ones who care about fashion and themselves! It changes her view just a slight bit. Then again...everyone can be egocentric to a point just to protect themselves...if not, they're just arrogant pricks...
"A-ah, n-no no, that was really nice to hear really!" she smiles. "I didn't expect to hear such passionate words coming really; I thought it would be the automatic: winning for the beauty. For the arts. Since in a way, Coordinators are artists with their abilities of showing how their performance are."
Honestly, she wasn't expecting much. Her journey was supposed to be her exploring by her lonesome and catch a lot of pokémon in the process of things! With her heart now set out a bit more. She began to notice how lonely it is without friends or even a human companion. Other trainers may have liked to be by themselves, and Ai thought it was for the best of her to go by her lonesome. Guess I was wrong in a whole new level haha....
"Oh, well, it's a really cute name Bunny," she smiles politely to the girl.
Their pace is normal to say the least. Taking their time to the next destination. Beyond one hill would be the views of Oldale and somehow, Ai felt a bit complete. As if her heart was set out on something more. "You know, when I first started out, I didn't think I would be a trainer really...I always dreamed on being one of those fancy Rangers who are heroes to everyone," she laughs a bit. "They're really cool with their looks and their passion to protect people is great... But, what about you? Any dreams of the future really?"
Bunny shrugged. "If you say so, but sometimes I feel like such a chatterbox!" she giggled. Bunny looked up to the darkened sky, admiring the stars. She had taken and finished an online astrology course not too long ago, and she still remembered most of her studies fairly well. It was nice to actually see the stars in the sky now. Back in her home city, it was so bright nothing but its light could be seen. The stars were dim in Lumiose.
She supposed everyone had a different experience, a different was of doing anything. But in her mind, the work of everyone — trainer, coordinator, breeder, ranger, everything — was some form of art in it's own way. Individuals may be different, but the basis is the same.
She giggled a little as Ayako complimented her name. "It's weird, I know. Who would be named after an animal? But oh well. For the record, your name is pretty cute too." Bunny sent the girl a playful wink with another giggle, and after placing Diana across her shoulders she linked her hands behind her back as she looked up to the stars. She listened intently as Ayako continued to speak.
Nodding, Bunny reminisced in her younger days at home, watching television shows with her parents. "I remember when I was super young I wanted to be a Ranger too, but all because of this TV show in Kalos! I don't know if it was in other regions, but it was about a Pokémon Ranger who battled different villains. It was my favorite. But when I grew up, I realized it wasn't for me. I wanted competition, and I wanted to show how wonderful and beautiful all of my pokémon would be. So I became a Coordinator, just like my dad." She sighed happily, thinking of her parents. "I just want to make them proud. But I guess that's silly, because I already have. I don't think they could ever not be proud of me. My main plan right now, and since I decided to be a Coordinator, is to become one of the best and most recognized in the world. I'm going to be famous, and so are all of my pokémon." Bunny nuzzled Diana affectionately with her cheek, still looking at the sky.
Boy does she talk, and Ai was unsure if she felt happy or intimidated by this! She just smiles happily to the girl. Well, perhaps it would be time soon for her to get this going on right? A battle would sound good right about now.
When she complimented her name, she just smiles and nods. Ai never liked her name really, even if it's called "peaceful, night, child". It's nice to hear that compliment. She kept her real name a secret really, she didn't like to share her personal information with people, even if it's her best friends way back then.
"Ohhh, nice nice," she says with a smile. "I remember this one show when I grew up, called Power Rangers. I watched it a whole lot with my friends back in school. Made me want to grow up to be a superhero, or at least a hero in some way really. But I think it's super cool that you became a Coordinator just like your dad. You know, when you have a contest, you should really invite me, I'll watch all of them." She smiles widely. "In person too! So I'll be that one person to give you the flowers when you win first place."
Always and forever, Ai has remained an optimistic person, supportive and of course, the lying type. Who knows if Bunny would win first place every single time right? Whatever the reason or whatever the position she takes place. Ai knew that she should be there for the girl. It would be fun to watch it really.
Up ahead. The lights of a town in the distance. "Ohhh, hey look, it's Oldale," she says with awe in her voice. "Guess we'll have our battle as soon as we get in closer then?"
"Oh yeah, Power Rangers! My dad really loved that show, even though it was kind of corny," Bunny giggled. "It wasn't really my thing, but I still watched it. The pink ranger was always my favorite, she was always so sassy!" Bunny began to lose herself in her memories of Lumiose and her childhood. She only then realized just how much she missed it.
"Oh," she said at a bit of a delay, "I'll be sure to invite you to all of my contests, if you want! I'd love to see you." To think of all the people she would have to invite! It'd be hard to juggle all the phone numbers and contacts. "Just know if there's a contest, I'll be there!" She sent Ayako a warm, full grin before returning her focus to the skies.
And then, before she knew it, the dim lights of Oldale began to enter her vision. "Oh, wow," Bunny mumbled with a giggle. "You're right! We're nearly there!" Then, with a look of determination to her new friend, she said, "I'm ready to battle whenever you are, but don't expect to win!"
Corny or not, the show was great for her. Ayako can only smile and nod in agreement. When her siblings would watch it, they would be enthralled by it too. It was worth wonders since it brought the family together and, it also gave her the inspiration to create her lovely House of Cards with her childhood friend, Sam. "Ohh, yeah, I agree, the pink ranger was really sassy. I think my favourite is the red ranger, since he has a really mean temper, but, he could always see things to the end!"
As she talked about inviting her to the contests, Ayako's smile began to widen and there, on her cheek was a slight blush. Excitement filled her as she nods happily. "You bet! I'll cheer for you Bunny, no one should miss a contest really. They're really entertaining and the coordinators take a lot of effort into their work."
With Oldale in the distance. She knew that their adventure would be coming in with a close, with a smile, she nods. "Back at you, you know?" she grins. "But, I'm a trainer, so, I'll be sure to beat you at this before you get to me." This was all for the game of them becoming stronger and becoming stronger means that they both had to train themselves to be become better and better.
Jerome trotted back to Ayako and rubbed his nose against her cheek. "Whenever you're ready Bunny, we won't go easy on you."
"Red ranger makes sense," Bunny giggled, politely covering her mouth again. "I mean, who doesn't want to be the leader? Or iconic in some way, I guess. I know I do." She sighed happily, dreaming of her future career as a Coordinator. She wasn't going to settle for anything less than amazing, trend-setter, and contest extraordinaire. Bunny Beckett was going to be plastered on anything coordinator-related — at least that was her dream, and she wasn't going to give up on it. Ever.
"You bet we put a lot of effort!" Bunny said with sudden enthusiasm. "I mean, technically I've never participated in a contest, but my dad's told me loads about them and I've watched as many as possible on my T.V. at home. Every region, too! And the bonus scenes! And the behind the scenes! I know a lot about Coordinating, and the two things I've learned from those shows and my dad are these: be confident and love your performance, and work hard!" Bunny mildly hoped she wasn't scaring Ayako, but really, she was just so passionate she couldn't really hold it all in.
She gave a grin at Ayako's response. They were both pretty confident in their abilities, weren't they? But no matter. They'd see who was really the best pretty soon.
"Let's go, Diana." The Dratini draped off of her trainer slowly and onto the ground in a battle-ready stance, ready for anything.
