River wasn't generally an emotional person, but it was the start of his pokemon journey in a new region - he couldn't help but be a little bit ecstatic. He'd just come from Professor Birch's lab, after being handed his very own Electrike, how could he not be excited? Not that it showed on his face, or anything. To the rest of the world, he looked as stoic as ever.
Of course, before River could even dream about competing in the contests he'd been so looking forward to, he really needed a team of his own pokemon. Preferably electric-types, but he'd take what he could get for now. It was only route 101, after all.
He kept a hand on the pokeball at his waist as he traveled along the route, looking for any wild pokemon to battle and possibly catch.
