[attr="class","textbby"]Now that the dedenne was no longer confused, her movements were more precise and her accuracy had improved. Adelaide, having only just finished her attack, struggled to get out of the way of her electric-based attack and, despite her boosted evasion, was unable to clear herself out of its path. The attack got her pretty well but the ralts hurriedly got up and, again, shook away the residue electricity before it seeped into her muscles. It was easy to see that the small pokémon was tiring slightly though; if she could just sufficiently weaken the dedenne, that'd be plenty for Kris. [break][break] "Use another of that, uh..."Disarming voice."Yeah! Disarming voice... and then use confusion, Addy." And the blonde had to allow himself to smirk slightly at the swell of pride that filtered through Adelaide's telepathic channel. If her trainer was asking for a repetition of her new move, that had to mean that he approved, right? [break][break] She allowed herself to be a safe distance away from her opponent before giving another loud lilting cry, letting her voice ring clearly over the beach and capturing, once more, the brief attention of casual passersby who heard the melancholic tune. Once the last echoes were swallowed by the low murmuring and crashing of the sea, she followed up with her psychic attack that sent damaging and distorting waves propelling towards the dedenne.
HER BOTTOM LIP WAS GETTING SORE. This battle was closely matched, and Dolly wasn't going to last that much longer. A few more hits and she was a goner.
The Ralts relented with another Disarming Voice, as Kristmar called it. Whatever it was gave Bunny chills — and not the good kind. Once she had her back straightened and after Dolly had taken the brunt of the attack, Bunny yelled out, "Tackle her, just as she finishes!" for only Dolly to hear. She didn't know how well it worked, as it was likely Kristmar and Adelaide probably did hear her because of how loud she was yelling over the melancholy song, but it didn't really matter she guessed. The Dedenne was sprinting towards Adelaide with newfound adrenaline, and Bunny found herself tensing up as she waited for the move to hit.
And just as Dolly made her move, Bunny didn't get to see the outcome before Adelaide smacked her pokémon down with another Confusion. But wait — this time, Dolly wasn't confused!
"Another tackle, hurry!" Bunny called out desperately to her pokémon. The crowd seemed truly invested now. She couldn't let them down!
Dolly could just barely hear her trainer's cries over the deafening song of Adelaide's Disarming Voice, but once her large ears caught wind the Dedenne began to sprint towards her target in a tackle. Just when she attempted to land her attack, though, the Ralts hit her with another confusion!
And although it made her head hurt and swim, Dolly quickly recovered. She gave another glance to her trainer, and then a smirk to the crowd as she heard her command. Dolly tackled Adelaide again, this time adding a sort of spin-grab sort of thing in order to try and flip the Ralts upside down and maybe even pose on her for affect. That'd get her some awesome points, right?
dolly was hit by disarming voice! dolly used tackle! dolly was hit by confusion! dolly used tackle (again)! dolly attempted to look cool!

i'm not after fame or fortune, i'm after you
Adelaide was far too tired at this point to try dodging the dedenne's two simple tackle attacks, but she did struggle a fair amount when the mouse actually grabbed her and span her around before slamming her into the sand. It was a pretty cool way to maneuver a tackle attack and, if it weren't for the way he winced on seeing his ralts try picking herself up off the sand, he would've been amused at the idea that the attack looked taken out of one of those pro-wrestling programmes that were on television from time to time. Kris waved his psychic pokémon back to a safer distance with an encouraging wave of his hand. Her petite bodice was beginning to quiver from exhaustion and, in places, sand was sticking to where her skin shone with light perspiration.
"You're doing brilliant, Addy. Just a little longer, alright?" The dedenne, although small, was a tough customer. Adelaide had dealt her an array of attacks and she still looked as though she had a considerable amount of fight in her, which Kris could admire, but his pokémon was tiring and he didn't know how much longer she'd be able to hold out for. Maybe she'd last two more attacks at best? Kristmar tuned out of the crowd that gathered to spectate and focused on the battle at hand instead.
"Use dazzling gleam, Adelaide." He instructed her quietly, under the dull thrum of chatter and constant whispering of waves. "Use the flash to get around to the other side of her and attack her again from behind. That way if she dodges..."I can still get a decent attack in, even if it's the last."Basically. But don't push yourself too much, Addy." She'd used a couple of these powerful attacks already and Kris couldn't do with her overexerting herself, but the ralts send a pulse of reassurance down their telepathic link, telling her trainer that she'd be fine.
Adelaide set off for the dedenne once again after the minute breather she allowed herself to have. Her short legs sped over the thick sand, it slowing her down a little and hindering her movement but not deterring her in the slightest. Determination was etched visibly across her youthful features; she'd make this dazzling gleam the brightest she could possibly manage to put her trainer's faint worries to rest. As she ran, her body once again began to glisten and shimmer while her attack steadily began to build in power. This time she didn't decorate the fairy move with a twirl or other unnecessary movement; this time she merely released the pulse of blinding energy in a single burst. Gritting her teeth, she staggered a little after freeing all the stored energy at once but hastily picked herself up, using her heightened evasion to dart forward and conceal herself in the glimmering attack as it raced across the sand towards the dedenne. Adelaide repeated her attack once she'd positioned herself further deeper in the field, expelling another formidable wave of fairy power which, compared to the first, didn't boast of quite so much power. She was still young; using two powerful moves, even if they were her speciality type, was taxing on her energy and experience.
BUNNY APPRECIATED THE BOND that Kristmar and his Ralts seemed to have. She could see it even from the opposite side of their little makeshift battle arena. The two of them had a sort of resonance, you know? She began to smile a little at the thought. Hopefully she'd have that same sort of bond with all of her pokémon.
Luckily for her, both of Dolly's attacks hit with resounding accuracy. But the battle was turning on her — the Dedenne was pretty injured, and another couple of hits and she would be a goner. Adelaide began to rush forward with another Dazzling Gleam, and as Bunny had to shield her eyes from the bright glow, she found herself shouting, "One more Thunder Shock!"
Dolly was nearly there. She held it out for Bunny, let out one last Thunder Shock with all her power and might. There was just enough willpower in her left to let go of all the remaining electricity in her body, and she pointed it all in Adelaide's direction. And then, once the damage was done and Adelaide attacked with her second Dazzling Gleam, Dolly found her eyes closing against the bright white light in exhaustion, falling onto the warm sand of the beach and fainting.
Bunny nodded, she figured something like this was going to happen. She recalled Dolly without a word, pulling out another pokéball with ease. "C'mon, Sophie!"
The Deerling shot out of her pokéball, bright green coat shining in the summer sun. Bunny was idly reminded of how she met the cute little pokémon, on a beach just a couple minutes' walk away. "Tackle 'em to the ground!"
Sophie immediately dashed forward, head lowered and aimed at her opponent, ready to strike them as hard as she could muster.

i'm not after fame or fortune, i'm after you
This small win that he managed to desperately pry from Bunny was tainted with a bittersweet aftertaste as Adelaide wasn't given much time to really savour it. No sooner had the dedenne been returned to its pokéball, after managing to get a last attack in, another pokémon was swiftly sent onto the field. All the battered ralts could really do was growl at the four-legged creature in a bid to take the painful edge off of the inevitable attack. She was so weak at this point even the gentlest of attacks would likely be more than enough to induce unconsciousness. Regardless, Kris made a soft noise on seeing Adelaide finally give in after coming close to being trampled by the energetic pokémon's attack. Quickly, he called her back to her pokéball for some needed rest. His slim fingers affectionately brushed over the sleek surface of the ball before he finally pocketed it.
Now... deerling was a grass type. The least he could do was take this chance to get a sneaky type advantage. Deimos, his gible, recently taught a fire attack that boasted of so much power that... he could barely even control it seemed... a little unnecessary for a supposedly friendly battle. Kris gave the cute brunette a tiny smirk and plucked his next pokémon from his belt, one of his thin eyebrows raising as he opted to go for a bit of a risk.
"Terelle!" He called to his horsea which the spinning ball released onto the same beach he'd caught him on. The water type wiggled his snout, inhaling the familiar salty air with a happy flutter of his dorsal fin. "Smokescreen!"
Terelle, who hovered a couple of inches over the sand, weaved closer to the deerling as an acrid cloud began to spew from his snout. Smoke, thick and sooty, began to fill their makeshift battle field as he aimed to obscure his opponent's vision, making Kris take a step backwards and wafted a hand near his face, squinting, as tendrils of the smoke even reached him. His horsea's enthusiasm was... appreciated but... "Careful, Terri. You're going to get everyone caught in it."
AS KRISTMAR RELEASED HIS THIRD POKEMON, Bunny found herself squinting in confusion. A Horsea? She looked between the two pokémon, furrowing her brow in thought. Was he... going easy on her?
She snorted quietly to herself. Too bad Sophie didn't know any grass-type moves yet, otherwise she'd show her opponent a world of pain. She was here to fight, and fight well — not be treated like somebody who didn't know how to handle herself. She figured Kristmar didn't mean it that way though, so she let it brush off her shoulder without much more thought. He was a nice guy, he was just trying to be friendly.
The Horsea's Smokescreen was... pretty overdone, she had to say. At first she wondered just how Sophie would be able to so much as see her opponent, let alone attack it when it was so impossible to see. But then, just as the wall of blackness began to impede on her, she struck an idea.
"Use it to our advantage!" she called out to the Deerling. She couldn't see her anymore, but she knew that Sophie was listening somewhere. "Hide from him and strike when he's least expecting, but don't be sloppy!"
Although Bunny couldn't see her, Sophie nodded to herself. She understood the command and began to slink around the perimeter of the inky darkness, peering carefully for the slightest sign of movement. Once she thought she found a target, the Deerling struck with two tackles in rapid succession.

i'm not after fame or fortune, i'm after you
The young horsea panicked a little as he was engulfed in the murky cloud of smoke as it was blown towards him by the gentle sea breeze. He'd overdone it a little. Oops. Rookie mistake, right? The best thing to do would be to get free of this cloud that'd linger about the deerling it was aimed at and, carefully, he began to swim through it, trying to make as few disturbances he could in the smoke or else he would be...
Spotted.
With a startled whinny, the deerling came crashing into his side but, thankfully, the seahorse kept his wits about him and hurriedly disappeared back into the cover of smoke, out of harm's way of the second tackle attack. Unable to see clearly what was going on, Kris shifted from foot to foot, a little bit antsy.
"Terri! Aurora beam!" He called out to his pokémon. "Use the smokescreen to your advantage!" And, in other words, don't let the deerling get an upper hand (or hoof?) with a move that he'd originally made. The horsea wiggled his snout in acknowledgement of his trainer's order, excitement trickling in at a chance to use his inherited move in a proper battle.
The plumes of smoke began to light up with a rainbow sheen, the light radiated from the ice attack reflecting off the suspended particles in all directions. As the beam was fired, the smokey billows pulsated and churned rapidly, being pushed out of the way of the irridescent attack. Watching it, Kristmar vaguely noticed how similar it was to watching tempestuous storm clouds, rolling and flashing with lightning, except with a myriad of beautiful colours.
BUNNY FELT A SURGE OF PRIDE as Sophie's first tackle hit. She couldn't imagine how much focus it had to take to find an opponent in such sheer blackness. The Deerling became somewhat startled when Terelle disappeared back into the smokescreen, only to unleash a powerful Aurora Beam that blasted her like a bullseye, making Sophie careen out of the cloud of smoke and stumble onto the sand.
To Bunny, it looked like something that should have been photographed, especially with the sunset as a backdrop. The crowd was ooh-ing and ahh-ing due to the spectacle. But she had to pay attention to Sophie, who, as she took the second Aurora Beam, was starting to look rough. Furrowing her brow tightly, the coordinator struggled to think of what she could do.
But, due to the Horsea's attacks, the smokescreen had thinned out. Bunny could now see the outline of Kristmar's pokemon, and she was sure Sophie could, too.
"Use Tackle again!" Bunny cried out, watching as Sophie regained her footing in the sand and dashed towards the Horsea. "Follow up with a Double Kick!"
Once she had executed her tackle, Sophie whirled around on her front hooves until her rump was facing Terelle. She reared up on her forelegs and kicked one rear hoof, then the other, attempting to land them on the Horsea's tiny body.

Both beams fired by the horsea managed to strike true, but it'd been far from enough to defeat the deerling in a single turn. The same way the smokescreen had thinned enough for the young doe to pinpoint where the horsea was for her attack, Terelle was also able to spot her. He was able to twist out of the way of her rapidly executed tackle but, ultimately, found himself at the mercy of her rear hooves.
Kris squinted on seeing his pokémon receive a couple of strong kicks from Bunny's deerling, enough to send him rolling away on the sand. Terelle managed to pick himself up and wiggled his snout furiously as he attempted to spit out some sand he'd gotten stuck in it.
"Again, Terri!" The blonde told the injured horsea. "Go in again with aurora beam!"
Terelle tooted his calling, hurriedly putting some more distance between him and his target now that the smoke had cleared considerably. Without wasting too much time though, not wanting the deerling to prepare herself too much in anticipation for the ice attack which was as beautiful as it was dangerous for the grass pokémon, Terelle aimed his snout and fired the powerful and colourful beam at her, twice in quick succession.
THINGS WERE GETTING REALLY TOUGH for Bunny and her team. Kristmar seemed to really know his type advantages — either that or he somehow got lucky (she doubted it). Sophie was nearly struggling. But the smokescreen was almost completely transparent now, and as Terelle fired more Aurora Beams, it only got easier to see.
"Sophie!" Bunny cried to her pokemon, watching as the Deerling took the full blow of the ice attack. The coordinator winced. It was rough. Like, really rough. But, to her amazement, Sophie rolled out of the way of the second attack, launching forward and running as fast as her tiny hooves would let her.
Bunny almost stood awestruck at her side of the beach before realizing Sophie needed a command. "Use that Double Kick as hard as you can! You can do it, I promise! You're doing amazing, girl!"
Sophie nodded just as she approached the tiny Horsea, turning again at the last moment and kicking her hooves with the most ferocity Bunny had ever seen. She had found a new sort of respect for the Deerling — she had some real spunk.
"This has been close, Krissy!" Bunny called as Sophie aimed her last attack. "How ya doin', you handling it okay back there?" She snickered a little to herself. Sometimes it was fun to have a little playful banter. And it could also be used as a distraction, in some situations. And at this rate, she would need one — another Aurora Beam and Sophie was toast.

Even with the type advantage... Kris was left wondering what the hell had happened. Like, what the fuck, alright? His horsea had used a merciless barrage of aurora beams on the young grass doe with lowered accuracy and attack but... it still hadn't been enough? Kris clasped his hands over his face for a moment, letting his fingers drag down the outline of his thin nose, as he sighed aggressively. His horsea fell to the deerling's hooves with a pained nicker and there was nothing more to it. That was it. That'd been his third pokémon. He'd started off bumpily, recovered with Adelaide's intervention and then just... lucked out, he supposed. Plus he had to hand it to Bunny; she wasn't bad for a trainer.
"It's alright, Terri... you did well," he murmured, a little dejectedly, to the unconcious horsea as he called him back. Things hadn't gone as planned but... he couldn't get sour over it. Bunny had won fair and square and that wasn't something he could hold against her.
Kris schooled his expression into a gentle one, his lips curving into an agreeable smile, and he began walking over to Bunny's side of the field with his hand outstretched for her to shake it. His eyebrow gave a small twitch at the 'Krissy' though.
"Y'know... just Kris is fine," he muttered to her, lightly enough to not let his slight annoyance surface. "Nice battle. Y'got me." He gave a rough chuckle despite himself and rolled his shoulders casually. With his other hand, he ran his fingers through his bangs, pushing them far back before they were released and just flopped back into place anyway. "Well done, I guess... I was sure Terelle was going to fare better than that."
AND THEN EVERYTHING ENDED. Bunny stood in place for a little while, in complete shock. What? Was it over already? Sophie seemed just as confused, sheepishly ducking her head as she noticed the Horsea lying before her, unconscious.
And then Kristmar was in front of her, and Bunny jolted back to the real world. The audience, too, seemed a little perplexed. But eventually they started clapping, some even whooping. Bunny blushed in embarrassment as she reached out and shook Kristmar's hand. She felt a little bad, especially when she saw the dejected look on his face (but she didn't mention it, since it seemed like he didn't really want her to see it).
"Oh, sorry..." she said with an awkward giggle, rubbing the back of her head and looking anywhere but Kris' face. "But, uh, that was really close. We should have a rematch sometime, I'm sure you'd probably beat me. I just got lucky is all." Bunny shurgged, looking out at the ocean that was becoming darker and darker as the sun sunk below it.
"Your pokemon are really well-trained," she mumbled to him, still bashful and feeling a little guilty if she was being honest. "I learned a lot from this battle, and I'd really like to have as strong a bond as you do with your team. It's really inspirational, and when it comes to contest standards, you've got me beat tenfold." Hopefully that made up for her winning.

The fact that there'd been an amassed crowd to witness his defeat didn't help at all. His expression was friendly and he did his best to seem a gallant young man who conceded his defeat with grace but, as were appearances, it was only skin deep. There was a a glint of discomfort in his warm crimson eyes and the tips of his ears were beginning to burn while the gathered spectators took their time to disperse. Defeat always sat like a sour taste in his mouth, one he never wanted to be too familiar with.
Kris waved the brunette off with a light chuckle at her modesty. There was a little consolation in her words but it wasn't enough to completely tame the selfish and ugly sensation that coiled in his chest.
"Bitte, you flatter me," he hummed, hoping the rosy tint that spread to his cheeks could be mistaken for bashfulness at her compliments. " "But you've trained your dratini well. I think I said it before but... your dratini is really nice." There was an unguarded glimmer of honesty and he quickly averted his eyes from the attractive brunette, dropping them to the sand at his feet. "I, uh..." Kris trailed off, sparing the straggling spectators a glance, and he licked his lower lip with slight nervousness.
Once one or two more left though, his gaze returned to Bunny, wondering how he should phrase himself.
"Would you like me to teach her Fire Blast?" He blurted out. Again, he swallowed and the colour in his cheeks darkened a few shades. "I-I mean... if you'd like." He reached for his satchel and slipped out an orange technical machine. "As... congratulations."

IF YOU FIND ANOTHER GALAXY
SHE FOUND HERSELF RELATIVELY confused but touched by Kristmar's comments. He seemed kind of nervous, so she kept quiet as she looked down at Diana, who was beaming despite being so tired after their battle. "Thank you," she said simply.
She also looked to the crowd now, watching as they slowly began to disperse. Some were talking about the battle, others gossiping about something-or-other she couldn't hear. Although she felt bad about beating Kristmar in front of such a crowd, she was pretty pumped at the idea of an even bigger mass of people watching her perform at contests. That'd be pretty rad, right? And maybe she wouldn't feel so bad about winning, either.
Bunny's head shot back to Kristmar as he offered her a teaching of a TM. Fire Blast? Her mouth hung open, completely shocked. She hadn't been expecting such a genuinely nice and thoughtful gesture. A bright blush flushed through her cheeks before Bunny looked at the sea, biting her lip and moving her bangs out of her face as she fought for words. Should she accept? Refusing would be rude, and she did really like the thought of Diana having such a nice move....
"That would be really, really great actually," she nearly mumbled to Kristmar, glancing into his eyes and back to the sea. "I-I mean, if you don't mind. I really appreciate the offer, it's very kind of you...."

There really was no need for Bunny to be so modest, although if Kris were completely truthful... rather modesty than someone filled with swagger boasting of their win to rub it in his face. She was taking her victory rather sweetly. It made him feel a little bad for taking his loss with a sour note. He waved off her endearing and mumbled gratitude and crouched down before the dratini.
"It's fine... honestly." He told her, bringing the disc to the slender wyrm dragon's body. "It's the least I can do." The technical machine was set and, immediately, it began to thrum in his hands as it began to spin with increasing velocity. Kris gave a faint chuckle, a low noise in his throat and chest. "I hope I get to at least see you use it in a contest."
Once it was done, Kris straightened himself back up and slid the TM back into his satchel. The sun had almost completely sank into the horizon by now; the beach no longer basked in a pleasantly warm light as dusk settled heavily upon them. The air was getting more bitter the darker it grew. Most people who had witnessed their battle were already retreating back to the town, being that it was getting late. It only seemed logical to head in that direction as well. Kris gestured over to Petalburg and slowly took a couple of steps that way.
"I'm going to head over to the pokécenter before it gets too late," he told the brunette as he walked. "Come on, I'll walk you."
