"Alright, punk. I think it's time to get you started." the trainer would speak to the canine pokemon walking along obediently at his heel. "What do you say?" he looked down to the poochyena with a smile, Spike giving the teen a bark in response. Spike seemed to have liked that idea. Then again, he barked at many of random things so it was hard to really tell what he'd actually meant. For all he knew, that could have been a very blatant 'no'. But he'd take that tail wagging and the fact he was still following along as a good sign at any rate. He smiled at the thought. "I'll take that as a yes." he'd nod before returning his attention back to the road that lied ahead, looking for any sign of a wild pokemon.
Spike had helped in the search, his red nose twitching and sniffing as he tried to catch a fresh scent. He'd whimper and whine when the trail would go cold or when it went out of reach, but quickly fall back into the hunt when a new scent crossed his path. They'd only walk a little more ways before the pokemon seemed to have caught something, barking loud to alert his trainer before following the invisible trail with more gusto, enough so that Dexter had to struggle a bit to try and keep up.
solosis drifts through the forest. it was on it's merry way until a poocyena suddenly goes up to bark at it. how unfortunate. fine, if it wanted to be petulant he's fight back. solosis sends a psywave at it to try and repel it.
Spike had found something alright. A pokemon that looked like quite the interesting chew toy if he didn't know any better. He barked at the gel-like orb, trying to catch it's attention as well as alert Dexter to it's presence. He didn't appear to like that too much though and before the tiny canine knew it a wavy beam of energy went his way.
Spike braced for impact, ears pinned back. Waiting... waiting? Hmm? It appeared the psychic move had no effect. How fortunate! Dexter had finally arrived, fortunate to see the canine wasn't hurt. In fact... was he yawning? What a little shit. Spike appeared to be quite confident after that failed attempt and was taking it easy, waiting for his trainer's orders.
Well since he'd already gotten a head start, might as well see what he could do, right? "Alright, Spike. Use tackle!" Without a second invitation, the tiny pokemon charged at the solosis and attempted to tackle him.

poochyena's yawn causes solosis to fall asleep, the pokemon floating gently to the floor. he doesn't even wake when he's tackled to the ground. just snores softly in his limp form.
The yawn had done the trick and both watched as the pokemon slowly drifted down, snoring all the way. He was actually quite surprised he hadn't woke whenever Spike had tackled him, apparently being quite the deep sleeper. Dexter certainly had no objections to this, his hand already itching to grab a pokeball to catch it at the right moment. He wanted this little guy on his team. Hopefully it wouldn't have any harsh feelings. He'd be sure to make it up to him later, but he supposed he had to actually catch it first before he made any plans.
With that in mind, as soon as the poochyena was ready for another strike, Dexter issued to call to push on. "Good job, Spike! Now use howl and follow it up with another tackle." he ordered, hoping to get the solosis down before it had the chance to wake up again. Spike had no complaints, looking like he was enjoying himself despite not having an active opponent. Actually he probably enjoyed that the most, being able to attack without retaliation. He best not get used to it though. Regardless he jumped right into it, tossing his head back and giving a good, loud howl to boost up his spirit. As soon as he felt pumped, he fell back into another sprint to tackle the sleeping pokemon.
the howl wakes up solosis from its sleep. it pops up in surprise, but when it's tackled to the ground it knew that it was gone for good. he blinks, hoping that the trainer had mercy on her before blacking out.
The solosis would wake up but not quick enough to dodge, Dexter wincing slightly as the poor unsuspecting pokemon took the full hit, Spike slamming into him full force before leaping back at a safe distance in case it were to retaliate. It did not however and Dex watched as the weakened pokemon went out cold. "Shit... Might have been a bit of overkill, buddy." he chuckled faintly as he scratched the back of his head, the tiny canine simply whining in response as it's stance softened into a more relaxed position, waiting for his trainer's orders.
Wasting no more time, Dexter pulled out an empty pokeball out of his bag, tossing it at the pokemon's lack of feet and watching it disappear into the capture device, the fainted pokemon unable to cause much of a struggle. Once the pokeball gave that satisfying click, he went to retrieve it. "Sorry little guy." he apologized as he attached the ball to his belt, reminding himself to stop by the nearest pokecenter to cure the solosis as soon as he got the chance.
With that taken care of, he turned to the canine who was scratching himself idly. "Good work, short stack." he smirked, unable to hide his pride for his pokemon. The praise was certainly appreciated, the tiny pup wagging his tail excitedly. "How about one more before we keep moving?" he questioned, recieving a bark in what he could only imagine was agreement. They needed to get as much practice as they could get, but it looked like they were off to a good start!
swoobat wants to play! she flaps towards the trainer and sends a gust of wind towards him and his poochyena. that's what she did with her siblings all the time, so hopefully he knew what this meant!
solosis is successfully captured! poochyena gains 2 level!
Almost as if on cue, not even seconds after agreeing to finding another pokemon to battle, the two were met with a strange gust of wind. It was enough to nearly blow the poochyena away, the pup whining in confusion as he dug his paws into the ground below to keep him from being swept away. "What the hell?" the trainer winced as he covered his eyes to save himself from any debris that might have been swept up by the gust of wind, but he managed to catch sight of the flying culprit as the breeze died down.
This one didn't appear to be as aggressive as the other, despite nearly blowing him and his pokemon away. "Hold it!" he tried to reason before it got the idea to try that again, the disgruntled canine at his feet shaking out his spiked fur which had become a bit fluffed after that gust of air. He gave the bat pokemon a series of barks, not seeming to have liked the game it was trying to play but ultimately didn't try to attack, waiting for his trainers command. Dexter didn't jump right into a battle yet though, but was ready to fight back if the swoobat decided to strike again.

what, the poochyena doesn't want to play? swoobat flaps a little closer to the dog, tilting its head sideways. swoobat decides to give it a little bump, maybe it'll bump her back!
Well the swoobat had stopped which was something Dexter was thankful for. He'd wanted to battle again, sure, but he wanted a breather first! Still, it appeared he was correct in assuming this pokemon wasn't aggressive and by it's next actions, it actually seemed like she'd wanted to play. The trainer watched curiously as the bat bumped into the smaller pup.
Spike tilted his head after the little nudge at first, not seeming to catch on immediately. What was this, exactly? He gave a quick glance to the human for answers before turning his attention back to her. After noticing the swoobat appeared to be waiting, it seemed to finally click and he decided to test it out by bumping into her this time, tail wagging. Battling was fun, but so was playing!
the poochyena likes her! it's great. she plays with it for a while. nobody plays with her anymore, swoobat could get used to this. she approaches the trainer, asking if she could come along
Now knowing that the swoobat simply wanted to play, Spike no longer hesitated and played along as best as he could with the flying pokemon, seeming to enjoy himself. Dexter watched on, smiling softly as he allowed the two to simply enjoy each other's company, pulling out his pokedex in the meanwhile to see what information he had on the bat. He was interrupted, however, when he heard the flapping of wings approaching him, looking up to see the swoobat appearing to want his attention now. Spike had followed suit, jumping up on his trainer's leg and barking excitedly. The two seemed to know something he hadn't.
Could it be? No way..."Do you wanna join our team?" he questioned with a quirked brow. He supposed it wasn't that far-fetched, but he hadn't expected it to happen, especially so soon into his journey. It was kind of humbling to think about, actually. He smiled at the thought as he pulled out another pokeball, holding it up for the swoobat to inspect and to also see if he was correct in his assumption.
swoobat chirps happily at the trainer's proposition. she'll take that as a yes. she bumps her head against the pokeball, sucking herself in and letting herself be caught.
swoobat agrees to go with dexter! another pokemon? @dex
Well that was easy. Dexter looked down to the pokeball in his hand, almost finding it hard to believe that had actually happened. Two pokemon in one day! Not too bad, he'd like to think, and Spike certainly seemed happy about the new company. He smiled at the thought as he added the second pokeball to the belt.
"Not exactly what I'd planned." he admitted to himself as he scooped up the canine into his arms. "But I think we can end it on that note. Before our luck runs out." He'd like to heal up his team before moving forward anyway. So with that settled, he made his way out of the tall grass and back to Odale, with the promise of finding the poochyena something to eat for his good work.
