Early mornings were always a pain. And without a good cup of coffee, non-functioning time of day with Mel; any hope for a conversation beyond grunts and death glares was guaranteed.
But... like her father often told her-- best things come for those who show up first. Or in case, just after dawn. The mission today? Catch a couple pokemon, hopefully. With these routes being swarmed with beginners, the best ones are usually taken up... as well as the cutest. But she doubted anyone thought of getting up at this time, so maybe she's in luck?
A yawn strayed from her lips, as Mel rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Jas, her murkrow, seemed a bit more chipper this morning; though too shy to really venture far from her side, he decided to take flight and stretch his wings out a bit. Smiling, Mel glanced away from her pokemon and peered into the tall grass she was walking beside... but didn't want to enter quite yet. Rather, she's preferred something to pop out but...
Well, looks like I gotta wake up some sleepy pokés. She sighed. Hiking up her bag, she delved into the grass, taking much care to be as big as a nuance as she could. Jas, giving a worried, flew closer; holding out her arm for the bird pokemon perch on, she gave a reassuring smile. "Don't worry-- I know what I'm doing. Just looking for a potential buddy is all."
She'd been minding her own business - like a good, little venipede - when her antennae began to pick up on some noisy vibrations for so early in the morning. She stopped chewing on the grass roots she'd been tucking into for breakfast and... listened.
And grew irritated.
Whatever, whoever, was doing this better stop! It was... it was making her mad! She just wanted to eat her breakfast in peace!
The venipede rolled herself up into a tight ball, hissing quietly, and sped off for the source of this horrible disturbance, not caring who she hit, be it pokémon or... or... human?
An angry, wild venipede has appeared! Venipede used rollout!

Um.
No, no, no.
Okay, maybe scream of surprise was a touch too much but in Mel's defense, if something just popped out of the grass like that, you'd be scared too. Even worse, it was a bug. Disgusting bug.
No, this wouldn't do at all ( she'll brush aside the fact that... yeah, she probably provoked it but still-- with the look it was giving her, the darn bug was deserving of the beat down it'll be getting). Sneering, she glanced at her murkrow, who was flapping and taking advantage of his avian abilities.
"Jas, get that thing. Use drill peck!"
He answered with nervous "mur", the pokemon dived forward, twisting his body to create a drilling momentum with his beak. To be honest, they haven't quite practice this move out but... this was a good of chance than any, right?
Arceus, what was this? A bubblegum girl and a scrawny crow? They were who were making all these bothersome vibrations?
Fine, the murkrow dodged her rollout, but that didn't stop her. The venipede continued curled up in her tight ball and sped forward, undeterred in the least, and maneuvered herself out of the way of the bird's attack. She did a wide circle and headed straight back for the murkrow, this time from the other side!
Venipede dodged drill peck! Venipede used rollout!

Shit. I knew I should've practiced this move before hand.
Jas wasn't as battle ready, when it really came down to it-- this was the poor baby's first battle after all. The venipede had the speed on it's side; before Mel could shout a warning at the bird, who perked up and realized just then his attacked missed sorely, the dastardly bug was already upon him. Just a hit and run, the poor thing squawked in surprised as the bug ran him over.
"J-jas." She called out worriedly. The murkrow got up, but the damage been done-- she wanted nothing more to scoop the poor baby away from this hateful thing but... Taking in a deep sigh. I can't coddle him. This is good practice. If she runs into trouble, she could always run back to the pokemon center and heal.
"Use astonish! And then follow up with a peck!" She was hoping for the flinch factor would kick in-- though... maybe the bird could last another rollout or better yet, dodge it.
Murkrow hesitated-- it didn't like that move, if he had to be honest. But he wouldn't want to disobey Mel either. Donning on a meaner expression and holding his wings up, to appear bigger than he really was, the Murkrow let out a low and aggressive "Krow" before lunging forward. He quickly follow with a peck, rearing his head back before bringing it down, beak forward, with force.
The venipede was stopped in her rollout in its tracks when the bird spooked her and left her open to attack. The murkrow's pecking hurt. She made some pained clicking noises and scuttled backwards, recoiling away from further abuse by the flying type's beak. It'd been a ballsy move; didn't they know she oozed a toxin when she was attacked and startled?
Now at a slightly safer distance, the venipede began to shoot out poisoned barbs out at the murkrow.
Venipede was hit by astonish! Venipede flinched! Venipede was hit by peck! Venipede used poison sting!
