When first arriving at an island town known for starting new trends and fashion the logical thing to do would be dive into the local life head on. Instead the young female trainer known as Syndra had decided to hit the local library instead after making her first steps onto Dewford town. It was not as if she had not known about the highlighting features Dewford was known for but more like she had not caught up on any studies in the slightest since coming to the region. Intrigued at what the region's libraries looked like and had offered in terms of study materials the girl could be found there glimpsing through the several aisles of the small library on the island. With such tropical climate outside it did not seem to be a bad idea to study up while enjoying the sunshine. Most of her wandering caused her to end up in the pokemon lore section as she picked out a book about the explanations of the extinction of fossil pokemon, leafing through the pages with mild interest. There wasn't many other people in the library and that much wasn't surprising. She'd look up on occasion to see if that fact had changed only to look back down and repeat.
Yay~ I'm not sure how long you want to make this so I'm just going to wing this until you say otherwise.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Julius entered the library for purely studious purposes. If he was going to get into this, he needed badly to know what he was up against. He entered with a purposeful stride, hair an artful mess and breath stinking of cigarette despite the fact that he wasn't smoking. His glasses shielded his eyes from the sand and dust of Dewford, and his feet made it to the library easily.
He only wandered for a little bit before striding to the information section, which was ironically put next to lore about fossils. He snorted at the thought and took to time in finding the book he wanted- a history on Kyogre and Team Aqua, from the journals of a ranger elite.
He remembered having to read about all sorts of elites in the academy and shuddered. Hopefully this J. Rowington was an exciting man. Or at least, a factual one. He took the surprisingly thick book and sat down, unaware of having taken a seat directly opposite to a green-haired girl.
Eventually though he felt like he was being looked at and turned up, eyes looking at her from beyond the rim of his hipster glasses.
Eventually the fact that she was alone in the library, save for the employees, did in fact change. The man that had walked in caught her curiosity not due to this fact however but rather because of the way he looked. Appearance wise the male was a direct contrast to herself. In an effort not to be rude and stare at him however Syndra would return to the book in front of her with her original purpose of gaining more knowledge holding steadfast. This was a library after all.
The moments passed without much change afterwards. She kept flipping through the pages effortlessly while still absorbing the information at hand. The sounds in front of her made her eyes glance up again and low and behold the same man that had walked in had now sat down in front of her. They held there for about a minute and were finally caught by the mystery man's gaze. She wasn't too shocked that she was caught out and rather than embarrassing herself she gave a small wave as greeting. The book he had selected was a hefty one as well but should she have expected anything less from a person that visited a library with glasses? It was a small library with no one else in it so perhaps it would have been fine for the only two people within it to speak but Syndra wouldn't have known that and was trying to be polite... minus all the staring.
Huh, in retrospect maybe the library was a more difficult location to RP in rofl.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
With just the very first lock of their eyes, Julius decided that the girl was rather strange. With overflowing green hair and matching eyes, she stuck out sorely from her surroundings. She looked interesting, but it was hard to lose focus on something he cared about so much, and based on the importance of what he was looking at and the young look of the girl in question, he decided to ignore his instinct to flirt, though it had undoubtedly been his first instinct.
He was just about to turn his green eyes back to his book when he caught her raise a hand in a waving gesture. Somewhat impressed at the bluntness of it, he paused, not really wanting to be completely rude and outright ignore the offer. Instead he smiled a sort of half-second smile that consisted of his lips going up wide and then falling back down an instant later. It was friendly but also somewhat curt- something you saw everyday and it didn't inspire much conversation. But it worked.
He got into the book yet again, and then decided to lean back into his seat, pulling up the book so that the cover was visible to the girl, and trying to read, with the occasional look back at her, idle thoughts wondering but most of the sharp and focused on the task of information absorbing.
The silence was only broken by the flipping of a page, or the occasional but rare clearing of his throat. If the girl kept up her refusal of getting back into her book and forgetting about Julius, the awkwardness would only intensify.
LAIKA OF GS! Syndra Mawdrey every library thread i've had ended in a awkward silence. but hey havent had one w/ juls never know.
There was a smile towards her wave but it was nothing that Syndra could use to decide whether to start up a conversation or not. The man decided not to initiate a conversation either as he immediately returned to his book afterwards. He seemed very much more interested in returning to his reading which was a decision that the somewhat studious girl respected. Deciding it was best not to disturb him Syndra also returned to her book, but it felt a tad awkward doing so. Perhaps that was the natural feeling of libraries.
She remained sitting up straight as she flipped through a few more pages of her own book. The feeling of being looked at loomed over her but every time she glanced up to the man in front of her he was engrossed into his own dictionary like novel or at least that was what she thought. She couldn't see him much from behind his book. The first few times she didn't bother to take note of what was being read by him, only engaged in figuring out whose eyes she felt on her. Eventually her jade eyes fell upon the imprinted title on the cover. It was obvious she would with the book being propped up like it was. The book was one she was unfamiliar with and for good reason, thought the title gave away what the contents were about. It caused her to pause momentarily in thought, her hands now idle rather than rifling through her own pages.
This was the third time to her knowledge that she encountered something to do with one of the two teams that supposedly terrorized the region. Everything she had heard about them was of the negative connotation however. One person in her travels even saying they desired to annihilate Aqua and Magma for their misdeeds. Syndra personally knew fairly little of each team upon coming to the region aside from their base values but based on what she had heard it baffled her to see someone reading up on them. "Why are you interested in Team Aqua?" She found herself saying out loud albeit softly so that would only be heard by the two of them. When she realized what she said she hesitated with a quick glance to the side but returned it, not taking back the question in case he would indulge her with an answer.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Julius should have had the foresight to know that the girl, strange as she might have been, was most definitely literate if the implications of her being in a library meant anything. Propping his book up like that had been an easy way to get comfortable, and things like that would always slip.
His first instinct was to place the book down rushedly, as though the action now could fix the fact that she girl had already noticed and derived whatever conclusion she had from the book. The next thing was the flicker of annoyance that crossed his eyes, as he gave her a dark glare. She could take it for the cheap intimidation used by wanna be aquas, but in reality Julius was reasonably pissed he was being grouped with criminals.
He pushed up his glasses and tried to reign the situation back under his control, lies coming off his lips smoother than butter. "Not really. This book is for crime research." He offered the girl a smile. "Julius." He gestured at himself, making it clear that that was his name. "Studying to be a ranger one day."
The reason the lie was so effective as that, a little less than five years ago, it would have been the truth. He had wanted to become a ranger...until he realized how useless and elitist they were. Now, he was doing a little crime research for another reason all together, a reason that maybe one day would be written all over books like the one he was holding.
So yes, he may have been able to hide the fact that he wasn't a ranger, but the more he allowed his thoughts to wander towards his little 'project,' the more excited his smile became and the more peculiar the glint in his eyes looked. In the back of his mind though, he wondered. The girl had been oddly smart and different from the rest before- would she be able to tell his lie apart?
As expected the first response to her question resulted in a negative way. The book was placed down and now her jade eyes met with the similar eyes across from her. The look that crossed his expression was mildly disturbing and was one of the few times that she ever encountered such a thing. Her lips pursed reactively. The muscles in her forearm tensed as well as she unconsciously gripped the page in her hand harder with enough force to wrinkle it. Up to this point the girl wasn't sure what to think about the last few seconds that transpired. "Umm," she managed to say hesitantly before the male readjusted himself.
This time with just a push of his glasses the male seemed like a whole different person again with being somewhat more approachable as a bonus. For good reason Syndra remained hesitant but her subconscious grasp on the single page was released at the least. "Crime research?" she repeated the words as if skeptical of why one would need to read team aqua's history rather than a criminal investigation textbook. Her eyes never broke away from Julius as if attempting to read his thoughts merely based on that connection. At the least she knew nothing about pokemon rangers so this could very well be the truth or not but the female trainer wouldn't know any better. Maybe studying the history of evildoers were how rangers did things? "I'm Syndra," she said with some tone of friendliness in response to his introduction of himself. She gave her real name out of courtesy even if the male across from her might have been lying about their own. After all what would her name mean out of anything?
Now Syndra herself was generally neutral to group ties or anything of the sort so it wouldn't have particularly mattered to her if Julius here was truly Aqua as long has he didn't do anything actively against her. Then again if he was telling the truth the part of her would have felt bad for not believing him. She wouldn't be able to tell based merely on what information she was given so far. At this point Syndra was just a bewildered child so she just decided to go with the flow of things until given a reason not to. "Sorry, I just got curious. I've heard nothing but bad things so far in my travels about aqua and magma." A small smile formed in an attempt to mend whatever it could between the two. She noticed the grin on Julius now increasing in size and she still was unsure of what to make of that. For the most part the female wasn't quite relaxed but enough not to draw attention to herself based n that. "I'm a traveling trainer. Maybe you could help brush me up on what dangers I should look out for in Team Aqua... or Magma if that is within your expertise too."

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
He winced internally but tried to keep his cool when the girl repeated the words crime research right back at him. It sounded idiotic now that he heard it from another person's lips, but he was determined to go with it anyway. The girl's gaze was strange, and easily unnerving, but the idea that a little girl in a dress could phase him made him more determined than ever to sell this story.
She finally relented and even offered her name, and Julius's body relaxed a little. Which wasn't a good thing considering that the girl seemed to be as observant as a hoothoot with its eyes peeled open.
He nodded and offered a minute smile in an 'it's alright, I get that a lot' fashion, excusing her suspicion with ease. He forced his grin down a notch, and it turns out he didn't have to because the next question turned him serious again.
"Avoid them if you can," He warned, looking at her cautiously. "If one approaches you it can hardly mean anything good," He quickly added to what he had said last, his out of proportion bias against aqua and magma shining through effortlessly. He offered a small smile, remembering quickly that he had a part to play.
"Don't worry though, Syndra-chan. THe rangers will always be there to protect you."
He felt like gagging at the words, but then found it a little to humorous. He detested the rangers. And then he realized exactly what he was saying to a girl with the strangest green hair he'd ever seen, inside a library. All of a sudden he was pressing his lips together, trying not to laugh.
The levels of fluctuating moods in the air around the supposed Ranger in training puzzled Syndra. One moment Julius appeared relaxed more and friendly with the next back to a serious tone. Did the mere mention of either Aqua or Magma truly set off someone's mood that much? This was the second time that this type of thing had happened and it was mildly disconcerting every single time so far. Even the warnings to avoid them was blunt and ominous, not that she would have known if she met any of either groups so far. None of the people she had met save for one in the beginning of her journey had triggered her and she had already taken care of that mess. Yet Julius didn't offer much new information to her aside from that warning. "I think I can avoid them if I recognize one," she finally offered to his statement. That said she was an adventurer so she wouldn't run away from a battle if she could help it and if someone else was in danger then she had as much of a right to help them as any ranger.
Syndra's lips pursed when he had gone back to a more happier tone with the assurance of protection from the rangers. Her mind went back to her encounter with the ranger during her expedition tour. The protection that was promised ended up being her group's combined effort to defend each other and the ranger guide from the dangers of the cave while Terry hid and called for help every which way he could. Thus her skepticism of Julius' words were high. Almost enough for her to overlook what he called her. "I wonder about that," she said as she finally broke eye contact to have her gaze drift to the side to show her skepticism. She released whatever tension she had in an attempt to lighten the mood, realizing that she might have been insulting him with that statement as he claimed to be studying to be a ranger. "I've only met one ranger and they did not inspire much... inspiration in any respect."

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
He had tried, honestly. He had tried as hard as he could to be a decent, well behaved male in a beanie trying to check out the library from 'crime research' so he could 'join the rangers' and 'help society.' He had tried to assure the girl the rangers would protect her, tried to deviate from his usual cynicism so much that he has struggled against a hefty laugh that was forming at the back of his throat.
He tired and failed.
Laughter erupted from Julius at the girl's words, and Julius realized he had seen her before- at the beach event. Not exactly anything like a meeting, but suddenly remembered a mop of green hair in the crowds. He laughed, and pressed a hand against his mouth to stop himself from laughing, quieted down because of the nagging feeling that this was a library, and finally held up a hand to signal that he was sorry and that he'd be quiet.
"Let me guess," he asked, dull eyes finally having the life of not having to pretend he was some ranger-wannabe. "You were at the beach exploration, too, right?"
He didn't wait for an answer. "You're right. Rangers don't inspire any confidence, or trust. Who would want to be a ranger, anyway?" He shrugged his shoulders easily, like he was totally okay with contradicting himself.
"A tip for aqua and magma- it's usually easy to predict what kind of pokemon they'll be using. Use brains, the one advantage everyone has over them." His eyes were littered with mischief, and he continued reading his book, absorbing in more information, and completely eager to know what the girl would say. She seemed an interesting person, and as always, Julius was on the look out.
LAIKA OF GS! Syndra Mawdrey *attempts to act like a good guy* *fails*
The sudden burst of laughter startled the female, leaning back in her seat from the shock. The male had to stop himself with a hand and Syndra ended up looking around to see if anyone else was there. They had finally drew the attention of the librarians and other staff which was slightly embarrassing but nothing that couldn't be overlooked. The two were the only real people there studying regardless. The suspicions that she had about the one across from her had returned with a vengeance, unsure of what to make of this. Reestablishing eye contact she did notice that his eyes were no longer glazed over and now had a revitalized energy.
She gave a short nod to answer his question, not that he waited for it. He began to contradict every single word he said about rangers and Syndra began to wonder if Julius was right in the head. Now of all times to drop the soon to be ranger act and down talk them, while maybe warranted, was also questionable. It took back whatever answer that Julius gave about studying team Aqua too so the two were back on square one. Actually they were probably on square negative one. "Uh-huh," she hummed with some uncertainty. For now she did not believe that he was part of team magma or aqua based on the little tip given to her. He pretty much insulted the two in one comment about them having no brains.
The female released a breath to relax herself as she straightened herself up in the chair once more. "So you aren't a ranger in training," she wanted to instate this so that there was no question about it and so that maybe he would tell the truth this time. He had to have known he was getting more and more suspicious so if nothing was clarified it wouldn't bode well. "Then who exactly are you supposed to be?"

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
The lack of evident anger from the girl at being lied to was a goos start as any other, he supposed. He looked at the librarians, made himself a little smaller and reminded himself to lower his voice a bit, but then quickly focused in on the green haired girl. She hummed out an agreement that hardly sounded like an agreement, and Julius was impressed by her unimpressedness. Though the girl was obviously younger than him, the vibes that radiated off her were quite and mature, which was good.
She stated the obviously and Julius nodded easily, like it had been obvious from the start. In fact, looking back on the previous seconds he wondered how it had been possible for him to tell such a lie. He hoped he never had to degrade himself to the level of a ranger again.
"Hm." He thought about it for a while, legitimately considering telling her about his plans for just about everything. But it would be too hard to explain, and he wasn't and could never be sure who was listening. So he let out a calming breath and said simply, "I'm just a travelling trainer, like you." He answered her without much jazz or spark, and he tried not to smile. But he still had a sort of glint in his eyes, the one that said he was still messing around, and would probably refuse to be serious for the rest of their time spent together.
Well that was more believable if only due to the lack of detail the statement actually had. It was only less believable now due to the lie that was told moments before. Syndra was still skeptical. She had every right to be after that ordeal, but she wondered whether to push the topic or not. The male seemed more enthused now and even the air around him stabilized to a more reassuring vibe. That much was an improvement to be sure. "Then why lie about that?" Syndra finally decided to ask. She had closed the book she was reading at this point, this conversation showing more promise than the book had. "If you had said that before I would have believed you, though it still doesn't explain the book."
It was very much possible that Julius here was also a trainer hating the guts of both what team aqua and magma stood for but what were the chances of that? She hadn't heard the word annihilate come from his mouth yet so that was a good sign. In addition she couldn't overlook that the brunette also did not like rangers despite himself pretending to want to be one. To prompt him to take such a recourse had to have meant something was up. Though the female made no indication of these thoughts at the same time she couldn't bring herself to smile either. "I don't think you're one of them but even you have to admit you're looking pretty sketchy here."

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Julius now took an immediate liking to the girl. She was quick, logical, and pretty interesting. Just as she closed her book, he closed his book as well, and he leaned back on his couch. He was smiling again, at the fact that he managed to meet someone like this. Hoenn was full of surprises, and not always the nasty ones that magma and aqua sprung.
The questions she rose were well backed, and Julius really couldn't think of a lie to answer them without sounding completely wacky or getting her to be annoyed with him forever. He hated being at a loss of words, but he liked the challenge that the situation prompted. He scratched the back of his head, lips curling enough to show the each on one side of his face.
"You're really making me wish I had stuck to the ranger bluff," he said, tone musical like that of a laugh. "Fine, fair enough." He paused, looking up at Syndra, trying to etch the name into memory, but knowing for sure it wasn't likely to work. He was terrible at names, but he'd try at least to remember her face.
"Fine, a hint. Maybe I'm trying to look sketchy." He folded his arms up, crossing them over the cover of the book he had so aptly closed. The words he said stated plainly that he wouldn't give up the answers so soon, but he was more than willing to start up a guessing game.
Even though the brunette had said he wished he had stuck to the ranger bluff, his laugh and more animated self suggested otherwise. Despite herself a small smile cracked at her lips as she almost joined in on the laughing but it had never gone that far. Instead her shoulders relaxed from their stiffened state though the female kept watching him carefully once again. He looked to be thinking and he was looking right back at her as well. He was saying words, a hint as he called it, but to her it sounded like a riddle. There were so many questions and Julius hadn't clearly answered a single one. Maybe that was just part of who he was.
With reluctance the green haired girl decided to take an attempt at the riddle. "You're trying to look sketchy for the mysterious aspect." The statement was said more in a questioning tone than anything else. What could possibly require looking sketchy yet mysterious. She was pretty sure this was just something that Julius had made up on the fly to cover himself up but she didn't say that. For now until she grew bored of this Syndra would play along with the act. As a joke she decided to say something plausible but silly to imagine. "You're in some secret top secret operation then. Working for the police to infiltrate the enemy and you're learning their ways."
