No time to waist the slim figured man thought as he searched the town. If I am to infiltrate be useful to team magma, climb the ranks and find out what happened to my parents, I have to get stronger. But, it was uncharacteristic of him to challenge other trainers. It was even uncharacteristic of him to speak. He was desperate, however...desperate enough to take drastic measures. Starting off his journey a lot later than other trainers meant that there was pressure to catch up. He needed to get stronger.
He tapped his fingers against the cold metal figure that had been resting on his left hip. Giving a nod to signal "it's time to go" he wrapped his fingers around the hilt of the metal object and pulled it from where it slept. Now fully extended before him in his right hand, the object, a sword, pointed at the various people around him. This was Joseph's way of challenging folks - pointing at them with the blade of his Pokemon sword. Before long, he had pointed at, startled, scared, and even repulsed a large sum of people. Were there no one to accept his challenge?
"What the..." Syndra found herself mouthing the words as she heard the rumors from the other townsfolk borderline running in the opposite direction. She was planning on leaving the town soon until she ran across these rumors in the wind. According to the rumors there was a lunatic of a man running around the small peaceful town with a sword pointing it at people with no other provocation or words. The thought was actually mildly disturbing. That said there were no statements of injuries or this person actually going out to attack people so the female thought there was more to this than what was said. Thus rather than an intelligent person would do, she went towards the ruckus to investigate the cause.
As what everyone said there was this skinny man holding a sword but it was not just a normal sword. The well versed girl recognized it as a honedge. Why the male would use it like that and why the pokemon allowed it was bizarre to her more than anything else. Eventually enough people would have evacuated the area so that only she was left to point to sword at and her expression did not hold the normal smile that it usually had. "What do you think you're doing pointing your honedge at people like that?" She started in her scolding voice that she had honed from years of experience. "It's rude. Stop it."
Joseph stood frozen for a moment. The young trainer's words shocked him. Being rude was not his intention. Though his face had a stern expression and his eyes glared at her, this was not out of malice. It was just how his face was. He meant no one any harm.
He moved his mouth as if to speak, but then stopped suddenly. In his mind, he had started a conversation with the trainer. The words just never escaped his lips. "... ... ..."
By now, he had dropped his arms to his side. The Honedge rested quietly in the grip of his right hand. It seemed to like being treated like a regular sword. The Pokemon watched the other trainer keenly - trembling ever so slightly as it examined her from top to bottom. Was Honedge impressed by the trainer's bravery? Joseph could tell that the gears in his Pokemon's head were turning. He could almost sense the excitement build in the Pokemon. He peered down at it and then returned his gaze to the other trainer. He had interpreted the Pokemon's fixed stair as a yearning to battle.
"Ba...tt...le". The words reluctantly escaped his lips. With a quick swing of his arm, he had once again pointed his Honedge at the woman. "This...this is how I find battles..."
The male did not respond to her in a vocal manner and so Syndra did not relent in her motherly attitude. If she showed any weakness she knew people would walk all over that. Her expression exuded confidence and did not bow down to the glare she received in exchange. Eventually the sword pokemon would fall to the side but that alone would not have the female's stern attitude at the moment drop. There was some movement from the pokemon and the wielder looked to be having some sort of speechless communication between each other. There were no words and Syndra was left standing in silence as the gaze traveled back to herself. "Battle?" she repeated the words disbelievingly as once again the steel was pointed at herself. Was this person not taught that pointing in general was not very nice?
"Jeez," The female said among a release of a sigh. "It's still rude. Anywhere else and you probably would have gotten arrested," she said firmly to get that thought through his head. She was quite surprised that no officer Jenny had come to take him away here. Did he even have anyone to help him if he ever did get arrested? Needless to say that Syndra couldn't deny the obvious challenge towards her. It was a good experience too so she lobbed forward one of the pokeballs on her belt. In a flash of light the amber fox appeared in front of Syndra. "If you want a battle I accept." The Vulpix gave a small curt but cute cry as she was uncertain of what she should be doing here. "It's alright Vulpix. Use Ember as much as you can and don't worry too much about anything else." If this male wanted a battle but didn't want to part from his pokemon then there was no way to fight. Willingness to fight with the pokemon was one thing but she hoped he didn't expect her not to attack so as to not to hurt him. Vulpix took this order to heart and shot two Embers towards the direction of the Honedge.
Vulpix, fire-type (flash fire)
So you're telling me that your sword hand... is twitching. Ignore my ugly inside joke
Arrested? Probably. But, Joseph acted in the only manner he knew how - be forceful until you got what you wanted. An arrest was neither here nor there for the aspiring Magma admin. With the release of the young woman's Pokemon, he launched himself - Honedge still in hand - backwards a few feet. With a quick flick of his wrist, he launched Honedge into the air. Since the Pokemon chose not to stay in its pokeball, this was his equivalent of releasing it from a pokeball. The tine metalic Pokemon swirled, blade forward up into the air and then down to the ground - landing rather abrasively on the concrete. Though it didn't seem to take damage from the fall, a small but short lived spark of light radiated from the spot where its blade-body touched the ground.
The young women wasted no time. She had already ordered her Pokemon - a Vulpix - to attack. Ember... Honedge clearly had the type disadvantage. If he wanted to win this, Joseph knew he had to be careful of those flames. But how? What could he possibly do? The truth was, there really was nothing he could do. At least, not at that moment.
A battle was perhaps one of the few occasions anyone would hear Joseph speak. As he watched the burning red balls of light move towards his Honedge, he had no other choice but to yell. "Dodge, Honedge". The tiny sword complied - lunging to the side to avoid the incoming attack. "Follow up with a SWORDS DANCE".The Honedge complied again. This time, it stood on the edge of its blade and spun itself around. As it did, dirt from the ground erupted around it.
In an instant, a second onslaught of red flames pelted the tiny sword. This time, however, It could not dodge it. Being in the midst of setting up a swords dance meant Honedge had no choice but to endure the attack. This annoyed the Pokemon.
As soon as it had carried out its swords dance, Joseph commanded Honedge once more: "Move in for a tackle". His voice was calm but stern - the kind of tone that made Honedge feel more confident. Honedge wasted little time. It lunged forward with a determined look in its eye.
Thankfully the male had the sense to part with his sword and not attempt to swing the thing at her and her pokemon. That was a liability she certainly was glad not to have to deal with. The dramatic actions of throwing the Honedge into battle caught the female trainer's interest as she watched the steel type hit the ground. That said she was impressed by the speed of the reaction used to dodge Vulpix's initial attack. A brow raised in a questioning look at what was said afterwards however. Taking time to use Swords dance was not particularly useful here when he should have known that there was a type disadvantage.
The second fire hit its mark but due to the dust cloud formed from the sword dance attack the female could not discern if it had or anything else. Instead she focused on what the trainer told the Honedge to do. A tackle. This was the most the male had said so far and in a coherent fashion. Based on the tone he did not appear particularly violent either. Nevertheless she replied reflexively, "Watch out for the tackle and attack point blank." Her previous command was still running through Vulpix's mind so it should have been no problem. The sword came rushing forward out of the dust cloud that was created and hit the fox square in the face. Out of instinct the fire type spat more ember out of her mouth to attack the opposing pokemon. The fox was hurt from the hard hit to her face, actually visibly upset and displeased with it once she regained her footing after the tackle hit her. Huffing she gave another inhale and shot the flames of ember again.

More Ember x2. Also took the Tackle attack... sorry
Joseph's eyes lit up, but only for a moment. In an instant, what little excitement his face would have shown was quickly ushered behind the mask of his stone-cold expression. Tackle was a success.
However, his celebration was short lived. Soon after being hit, the opposing Vulpix began a counterattack. Another round of ember. Joseph's heart skipped a beat as he braced himself for the worst. At such a close range, calling for a dodge would obviously be impractical. The attack would still hit. But, Joseph was lucky. Not only did the tackle to the face seem to disorient the opposing Pokemon, without him even having to command it, Honedge had instinctively moved away from the Vulpix soon after tackling it. Though this was not enough to completely save it from being hit by the embers, it was enough to save it from fainting as only some of the flames hit.
Good work Honedge, Joseph roared in his mind. You're skills are impressive! Again, his celebration was short lived. This time, the realization that another attack, whether direct or not, would cause Honedge to faint, brought him back to the reality of how tight a spot he was in.
But, he had an idea. It wasn't the kind of idea that was surefire success. No...it was only a hunch. Something he had noticed during the last exchange between the two Pokemon. The spin from swords dance cause a cloud of dust to mask Honedge's movements. Even if only for a moment, this was the best chance Honedge would have to launch another successful tackle.
Without any hesitation, Joseph called out to his Pokemon: "Use SWORDS DANCE once more". The level of urgency was certainly portrayed in his tone. Honedge complied. The tiny Pokemon spun itself around even faster than it did before. Dust began to surround the Pokemon and soon covered it. Joseph paused for a moment to examine the opposing Pokemon's movements. He watched the Vulpix intensely until it too was hidden by the cloud of dust that had enveloped Honedge. "Keep spinning Honedge" he yelled as he braced himself for what was next. His eyes fully focused on the field, he searched the field for any light. Light, he figured, would be a signal that his opponent had fired another round of ember.
It was clear, though, that these were his Honedge's last efforts. The Pokemon had taken a lot of damage, and if this battle continued for much longer, it would soon faint.
Did he... give up? The order for the Swords Dance again kept throwing the female off. Was there something she was missing? Still the pokemon was obedient, perhaps to a fault as it obeyed its trainer. The spinning kept kicking up dirt and dust below them to the point that the female raised her arm in front of her to defend her eyes from the debris. The fire type on the other hand could not do much but shake her body to keep from getting too uncomfortable. The sword wasn't clearly seen but there was a silhouette and the pokemon was staying in relatively the same place.
Either way she wasn't going to wait and let him execute whatever plan he had. "Fire into the center of that dust cloud," Syndra said quickly so the sand wouldn't get into her mouth. It didn't work and that disgusted her though she made no indication of it as the fire type spat out another volley of embers where directed. The fox had better luck not inhaling the dust if only due to the internal fire created when firing of flames from her mouth.
Vulpix, fire-type (flash fire) Level 7
More Ember x2. Sorry this is so short, I wasn't sure how to post and I'm tired
Joseph's eyes searched the dirt cloud that engulfed his Pokemon. His eyes were intense. Fierce. But, his poster was calm and collected.
Before long, tiny shimmers of red began to illuminate the battlefield. This was what he was waiting for. The opposing Vulpix must have launched another ember attack. "Now Honedge, go". His voice roared. "Go for the TACKLE". With all that the tiny sword had, it lunged forward out of the dust cloud towards the Vulpix. Its body trembled as it dove headfirst towards the barrage of red.
Alas, this effort was in vein. The Pokemon had taken too much damage to survive this last round of ember. The flames slam against the tiny sword like bullets. Honedge faints mid attack, leaving its body at the whim of physics. The force of its tackle sends the tiny sword ricocheting off the ground and hurdling towards the opposing Vulpix.
The die was cast and the gamble was made. The strong voice calling for the use of tackle made the female realize that he was attempting to double K.O. each other. Luckily ember was a ranged moved and so when the steel type exited the dust cloud it had collided with the flames. It had still spurred a reaction from Syndra at the sight of it. "Vulpix look out!" she yelled out to the fox who looked frightened by the sight of the sword coming her direction. The fox tried to jump away towards the side but the trajectory of the pokemon was unpredictable. In the end it still managed to hit the fire type in the front right paw and she howled out a roar in response to the immense pain. It was a moderate injury Syndra reactively ran over to the young pokemon to inspect the paw. Nothing too serious to be sure and the battle was obviously over.
"It's just a scratch. I'll take you to the pokemon center to look over it soon," Syndra spoke to reassure the fire type who gave a weak whimper. Her jade eyes would then be cast towards the older man. Hopefully now he got what he wanted and would stop pointing his honedge at people. "Will this be enough? I hope your Honedge is okay."
As the dust began to clear, the realization that Honedge had fainted started to sink in. Joseph quickly made his way to his Pokemon. Dropping to his knees, he scooped the tiny sword into his arms and peered down at it for a moment. Holding it close, he looked up at the young woman and gave a slight nod. His gaze then fell to the injured Vulpix. It was quite obvious from the way it was standing that it had injured its leg in the battle. Joseph reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief. Extended it to the other trainer, he nodded at the Vulpix, signalling that the young woman should take it to wrap around the Vulpix's injuries.
The female watched as the man had approached his pokemon and taken it up with tender care. The way that he had done so showed the green haired girl that he did genuinely care for his pokemon's well being. The pokemon was not recalled into its pokeball and part of her was not surprised by that considering the way they were acting before side by side. Perhaps this was all a big misunderstanding. Either way she didn't expect the kindness that he showed towards her Vulpix. She eyed the male as he pulled out the handkerchief and offered it with the nod to the fire type. Slowly taking the small piece of cloth, she nodded. "Thank you," her voice was soft and her gratefulness could be heard. With care the female lifted the fox's paw slightly and delicately wrapped it around the injury like a cast. The fire type visibly appeared better afterward though continued to limp as she licked Syndra's hand. Looking up to the male she spoke to him. "So I'm guessing you just don't like talking then. That's fine but try not to have such a big misunderstanding again. This situation could have been much worse." She paused. "Also I'll return your handkerchief to you one day if we meet again."
Though his face remained stoic, Joseph's eyes showed a deeper emotion - happiness. He was happy that the young woman accepted his token of kindness. But, it was her gentle voice that made him happy the most. He imagined for a moment himself as a child and having an older sister that spoke equally as gently as she did.
"So I'm guessing you just don't like talking...try not to have such a big misunderstanding again..."
He rose to his feet, Honedge still in hand, and quickly lowered his head. Her words were kind and gentle, and he bowed before her to show that he had fully accepted the young woman's counsel. Because he never smiled, he hoped that this and the offering of his handkerchief would be enough to show his gratitude to the young woman for accepting his challenge and, now, being so kind.
When she proposed to return his handkerchief, Joseph shook his head in disagreement. The words "not nec.." calmly escaped his lips before he caught himself and stopped suddenly. He looked off to the side for a second before returning his gaze to the young woman and then bowing again. "May I...trouble you...to direct me... to the nearest Pokemon Centre?" The words fell from his mouth as if he were a nervous child. Though he hated speaking unnecessarily, he hated the fact that his trusted partner was injured even more.
The man stood suddenly, the movement drawing Syndra's eyes to him. His expression remained motionless and with a breath she rose to her feet as well. For a moment she did not know whether her words had gotten through but those worries were taken away on the stray breeze as the man bowed to her. She blinked at the sudden action. Unsure of how to react she tilted her head to the side, "Um."
Those feelings remained as the male appeared to have began speaking only to stop short. The mysteriousness of it made her pause. Why would he choose to do such a thing? While he did try once again to talk it was by no means confident or straightforward as the way he spoke during battle. It was as if he was trying to read bits and pieces of a sentence off a paper from thousands of years ago. Putting the words together regardless of that was her job it seemed. "Pokemon Center huh?" she repeated that part realizing it to be the main subject of the statement. Haphazarding a guess she tried to provide an answer. "There are no pokemon centers here but the Pokemon Lab should have the same capabilities," her answer was provided with her left hand pointed towards building on the small hill further into the town. Dropping that to her side, her right hand rose towards the path that led out of town onto route 101. "The closest actual pokemon center would be down route 101 in Oldale. I recommend trying to Lab if you do not have any other pokemon on you."
Joseph gave a slight nod in appreciation of the young woman's help. He felt as if he had taken far too much of her time. And, the fact that he had spoken so much over the past few minuted made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. He gripped his Honedge firmly in his hands as he turned to look in the direction of the Pokemon Lab. That was probably a bad idea... he thought. After all, just a few moments ago, he was causing a ruckus in the town. His poor Honedge would have to suffer longer because of that mistake. Lesson certainly learned. He shifted his focus to the path the led to Oldale. Perhaps this was a safer choice. No one would know what he did there - or so he hoped. He looked at the young woman once more. With a swift motion, he bowed a third time and then turned to walk away. In that brief moment, a thought entered his head. You were talking so much before, why not end this interaction with a little more than just well-intended gestures? He paused and then turned back to face the young trainer. His voice a little more confident, he announced: "I hope we meet again young miss". With that, he turned around and darted towards Oldale.
■ NOTEs OOC: wasn't sure if you meant that you wanted to continue to 12 posts. I think, at this point, jospeh is comfortable enough to stay and interact more. but, he would probably recluse into his silent ways.
