what we know is almost nothing at all
The prospect of a battle, albeit in the near future, caught Kris' interest in an instant since that was what he'd originally been scouting for when he left this morning. He was curious to know what other pokémon Kurayami could hold in his team; so far he knew of his glameow and espurr but no more than those. "I'd be down for that," Kris answered him, tilting his head just enough so he could glance under the table to see what the cats were up to. "I'll be hanging around the route out of here for the next few days so I should be easy to find."
Sören eyed the inky-haired trainer's legs cautiously, wanting to follow the female to where she was curled up but also unsure about settling so close to a complete stranger. He blinked at her and gave a quiet mew but, in the end, relented. With a hesitance that was clear in his eyes, Sören slinked closer to sit next to her but didn't settle. He sat there, hunched and wary, and distractedly tried to groom the back of Machiko's neck, her soft scruff which would be hard for her to otherwise reach.
But, huh... Kris supposed that was something they had in common: one of their parents being a coordinator who encouraged them to watch tapes. Back when he'd been a kid, Kris hadn't minded too much because, after all, coordinator battles were like any old trainer battle but much more flashy and visual, much more suited to keeping the interest of a bored kid or teenager who pondered on what to watch after finishing his school work. Unlike Kuraymi though, Kris hadn't been immediately hooked though; he'd appreciated the beauty in the contests and strategies but it wasn't for a few years did he consider it for himself. He hummed in acknowledgement after the other male placed his order, cupping his chin in his hand and leaning lightly against the table. "My dad was a coordinator too, y'know. You were made to watch tapes too?" Kris gave a gentle chuckle. "I guess we're both late-starters compared to a lot of people..."
For a moment, the blonde trailed off as the waitress took the other coordinator's order after his, flashing her a polite smile.
"Normally I go for poison or grass types but I don't strictly stick to that," Kris gave an easy roll of his shoulders, "I've got a small variety for now." His starter had been dragon and ground type, his strongest pokémon was a fairy and psychic type... while poison was a majority in his party, they certainly weren't the strongest, Kris sank his cheek a little more into the palm of his hand, the one that was already cupping it, while their waitress brought their order. He tucked some stray strands of light golden hair behind his ear a little coyly. "You been in a contest yet? You definitely don't look like the coordinating type... I'm a little surprised honestly."
Yami chuckled at the obvious interest that was piqued at hearing the possibility of a battle and supposed that even Coordinators enjoyed a good battle every now and again. Yami didn’t mind them himself but he was always more interested in learning new combinations and seeing how well they went together for any upcoming contests. Battling was great and all but his eyes were much more focused on performing for the contests as well as any move combinations that would make his pokemon look good for it. His mother had always expressed how important it was to get just the right combination of moves together especially if there was a trend or theme. Brushing those thoughts to the side for the moment Yami leaned back in his seat, getting comfortable after being in the chair outside for a good portion of the day. The cushioned seats were heaven at the moment. “That’s good. Once I’ve trained my team a bit and maybe caught a few more pokemon I’ll see if I can go find you.” He smirked slightly as he continued to speak, “Don’t want to make this too easy of a win for you after all.”
The brunette blinked at finding out Kristmar’s dad was also a coordination and he gave the blonde a bemused look for a second as he said, “That’s a pretty funny coincidence. I guess kids really do follow in their parents footsteps.” His words held the barest hint of tease, still easing his way cautiously into the rhythm of having someone accept his dry sense of humor. However, he chuckled at Kristmar’s next words as a crooked grin stole across his features. “I wouldn’t use the word ‘made’ so much as tempted into watching them. I was already pretty curious about pokemon and…when I found out Ka-san used to be a coordinator I was more than happy to watch.” He shrugged his shoulders with a soft fond smile curling his lips as he thought of those dies curled up on the couch with his mom just watching all her old videos. She’s give him pointer’s and get lost in nostalgia sometimes, commenting on how much she missed it sometimes and how she hoped he liked it as much as she did. Sometimes she got a funny little smile on her face when she watched the videos but he’d never asked.
“Yeah we’re definitely late bloomers but…that means we’re smarter and can learn quicker.” The younger male smirked playfully, his eyes glancing down at their pokemon upon hearing Machiko’s motorboat purrs. Her eyes were closed, head resting on her paws and tail flicking lazily behind her before she made an almost sigh like noise. She peaked a single eye open and glanced at the kitten helping to groom her before deciding to be a little merciful. Gracefully she got up on her feet to nudge the male towards the corner so that as she curled up once more, her body was between him and her human’s legs. She laid her head down once more before peaking at the male Glameow expectantly so he’d continue. Yami chuckled softly and murmured, “Don’t get her too used to that now. She’s spoiled enough as it is.”
Machiko sniffed delicately in clear offense at her trainer, batting his leg with her tail before ignoring him in preference for the male showering her with attention. Satisfied he brought his attention back to Kristmar as the blonde male answered his question about his pokemon team and he gave a thoughtful little rumble as he leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Allowing his body to slowly start relaxing as he thought about that before lowering his head and giving Kristmar a slight smile, “I guess for a coordinator it’s a good idea to have a wide variety of pokemon for different kinds of contests.” He was a little surprised when Kristmar asked his own question and he made a little noise of thought before speaking up again. “No, I haven’t been to any contests yet. Only started my journey a week or so ago after all.”
He ran a hand through his tousled bangs before he allowed another crooked smile to quirk his lips playfully. “I thankfully expect quite a few people not to believe that I’m a coordinator. I know at least right now I certainly don’t look the part what with how I’m dressed.” He shrugged but the crooked smile never left his lips as he continued speaking, “I’m a performer at heart though thanks to my experience with music so…I have faith in my skills as a coordinator. You on the other hand…” This time his smile turned into a challenging smirk, “…You I could definitely tell was a coordinator. You have the air of one, especially with how well put together you are.”

what we know is almost nothing at all
He'd only started up about a week or so ago? This guy hadn't been kidding when he said he'd only just started out. Kris made a small and soft noise, audibly communicating his slight surprise at this.
The blonde allowed himself a moment to glance over at the waitress who'd taken their order, watching how she placed their items on the tray. Instinctively, he shifted in his seat, sitting up a little and moving his arms from the table so she'd have room to set down their snacks and drinks. Kris gave a gentle chuckle at Yami's comment on that he was clearly a coordinator because he was... well put together? O-Oh. With a fond tut, he waved the inky-haired male's words off, his lips pursing and holding down a smile, and averted his eyes to the window. He flushed lightly at his words though, taking it for a small compliment.
"You couldn't have been certain of that by just looking," he told him, amused, and avoiding looking at him for a second as his eyes travelled straight to the waitress who brought her tray over to leave their treats and drinks. Kris gave her a polite mutter of thanks and he reached for his cool glass of lemonade. "I could've just been a passing trainer who just... takes care of themself?"
Wagging his finger at him as he brought his drink up to his lips, Kris teasingly chided him. "Judging a book by its cover is a very bad habit, you know?" He hummed a little and reached for his jam doughnut, bringing his little plate closer to him. "Do you have a lot of experience with music?" Kris' interest was earnest and the slightly sudden question wasn't made just out of politeness or a means to keep the conversation flowing. As someone who dabbled in music, he was honestly curious. "I didn't get to hear a lot of your playing before but you sounded pretty good."

i wake at the first cringe of morning
and my heart's already sinned
Yami couldn’t help but chuckle at Kristmar’s words, enjoying the obvious pleasure the blonde tried to hide at his veiled compliment. He shrugged a little at the blonde’s retort though, amused that the other seemed to be resisting it. However, instead of pointing that out he gave the other male a thoughtful look as he tried to figure out the best way to explain what he’d meant, slowly starting to speak as he thought. “I don’t mean in the physical sense…it’s more like….” He paused for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as he glanced out the window in thought and tried to think of the best word. “Grace? Or…” He huffed slightly before figuring the best way to explain it would be to point out why he’d made the connection. “The way you move and carry yourself is a lot like my mother and the way she used to move when she was an active coordinator.” He could still remember how she’d held herself during those videos and he vaguely realized she still kind of carried herself that way.
He glanced up when his stuff was set in front of him and he flashed the waitress a bright smile that was returned with a shy one before she ducked away. He leaned forward a bit and hummed thoughtfully as he took a sip of his drink. He gave another little shrug of his shoulders that clearly said he didn’t take the other’s words serious about judging a book, the smirk pulling his lips around the bottle said the same as he murmured. “I don’t make a habit out of it besides it was an educated guess not an assumption or even judging.” The tone he used was playful, teasing as his voice lilted slightly as he said them, his tongue tasting certain words. Once in a while his accent made an appearance but it was faded enough that it was only just noticeable.
A slow blink was the only sign of his surprise at the sudden turn in topic but he took it in stride and let a crooked smile curl his lips. Music…it’d been something his dad had gifted to him in hopes that he’d come out of his shell and speak to others. It hadn’t worked at first but soon enough after a talent show he’d managed to be dragged into a band with some friends and well…he’d opened up a little. “Hmm…I’ve been playing the guitar and singing since I was pretty young maybe eight or nine? Around fifteen I got dragged into a band with some classmates and well…now I’m here performing.” His words were careful and vague, not wanting to get too into details as there were certain memories he didn’t particularly want to think about. “You a musician??”
The brunette relaxed against his chair as he ate and drank with the blonde, surprised yet not too surprised at how comfortable he’d gotten with the other male. They’d only known each other for a little but he was rather content with how things were turning out between them, especially since he hadn’t expected to meet anyone he could get along with so well or easily. It was comforting and the younger male found that the homesickness he’d been feeling was slowly ebbing and decided that…if he could meet more people like Kris then perhaps he wouldn’t actually mind continuing on this journey. He slight glance at Machiko curled up with the other Glameow made him decide that perhaps…he could even see the blonde again.

what we know is almost nothing at all
This was certainly not a compliment he received too often. If anything, Kris was used to his more striking qualities - the length of his well-kept hair or the vibrant hue of his eyes - garnering any attention. He wasn't accustomed to something as subtle as the refined way he carried himself being noticed and drawing attention. It was pleasant, actually, and the blonde's smile just softened. Even if the guy was basically comparing him to his mum in a way.
Kris let the younger talk of his experience with music as he took his time eating his baked treat. His eyebrows raised slightly when Kurayami said he'd been playing guitar since such a young age and he'd been in a band too? The fact that he seemed very comfortable playing in public as well just made Kris assume that he must possess a fair deal of talent.
As he washed down some of his doughtnut with a light drink of sparkling lemonade, Kris gave a small shake of his head.
"I wouldn't call myself a musician," he admitted, the term feeling as though it was earned by people who could boast of more skill and experience than what he had. "Just a hobbyist, if anything. I used to play and sing a fair bit when I was in high school but I... lost interest for a while." In favour of a certain dalliance with a questionable crowd. "So I'm pretty rusty. Heh."
He brushed the fine sugary powder from his fingertips once he popped the last morsel of the sweet bread into his mouth and sideglanced at his watch. A soft exhale of vague surprise left him through his nose on seeing the time and how much had passed. He had to head back soon and check up on how his team was faring back in the pokécenter.
"Next time I see you, I'll be sure to have you play something for me," he told Kurayami, bunching up a used paper napkin in his hands and dropping it on his empty plate. "And I'll be holding you to that battle as well." Kris was making all the motions that suggested that he was getting ready to leave now that he'd finished his small snack. He glanced under their table to catch his dozing glameow's attention... feeling a little guilty on how he needed to separate them.
"Sören, hey," he whispered softly, trying to gently rouse the skinny cat without bothering his company too much. "We're going to have to check on the others soon."
Yami chuckled a moment and shook his head at what Kristmar said about probably being rusty. He liked to think that guitar was one of the easier instruments to learn and therefore it wasn’t something hard to pick up again if you were already familiar with it. He shrugged his shoulders a little as he said encouragingly, “I’m sure you’re better than you’re giving yourself credit for.” He still remembered how easily his father had picked up the instrument again and made the guitar sing as though he’d been playing it every day. It was what made him try so hard in learning it, he wanted to be able to play the instrument with that ease and comfortableness.
His attention was grabbed when he heard Kristmar’s surprised noise and noticed him looking at the time, curious he looked at his own pokenav to check the time. He let out his own surprised noise, sitting up straighter in his seat and letting out a little hissed curse. Sei wasn’t going to be pleased, especially when their little link shows them that he’d completely forgotten him in favor for the blonde across from him. The brunette winced at the thought before looking up when Kristmar began to move around in a clear way that said he was getting ready to leave which both disappointed and relieved Yami.
The brunette chuckled, shaking his head at the blonde’s words that made it clear what would probably happen next time they meet. Brushing a lock of hair back behind his ear he replied easily, “Well I’ll be sticking around here for a while yet so no doubt we’ll be seeing each other again.” He winked playfully as he continued, “I’ll be sure to give you as good as I get then.”
Machiko could feel the shift in both humans and cracked open a single eye when she heard the blonde male speak to the Glameow she was curled around. She let out a soft yawn before stretching out, claws unsheathing before retracting again as she straightened out only pausing to nibble gently at Sӧren’s ear before leaping into her trainers lap. Yami murmured softly to her before he too gathered up his stuff, smiling warmly at Kristmar as he stood. “It was great meeting you, Kristmar. We have to do this again sometime.” Flashing another crooked smile at him, he cradled the Glameow to his chest as he walked away leaving a bit of money with the waitress that would cover both their meals before leaving. It wouldn’t be till later that he realized he’d never grabbed Kristmar’s IM name.
