It's been weeks... Dmitri was frantically attempting to contact Usa for chit chat, but this was the umpteenth time nobody answered and the sound of an unfamiliar voice alerted him that the recipient's voicemail wasn't activated. He wasn't answering his texts either. Did I embarrass him that badly...?
Flicking a pebble across the road with his boots, it couldn't be helped, unless he could somehow find Risu instead. But I've never gotten his number off him. This is so impossible! Every day it seemed less likely Usa merely went off the radar, and more likely that it was done purposefully to avoid Dmitri.
Did I come off as that much of a creep? He sighed. The road ahead was saturated with rainwater, the storm which left it there passing off into the east. Hoenn was starting to feel more glum, and Dmitri was unusually chummy. Please, just answer... His fingers never left his phone these days, sadly.
Dmitri was alone on the road, though what lied around the next bend he knew not. He could use a distraction right about now, to ease his grief.

The mud that was splattered up Kevin's pants and coating his hiking boots was the very least of his problems. The little pokemon swaddled in a towel in his arms was shivering and chittering in displeasure. Kevin and his cottonee, Aethra, had gotten caught in the rain, and the fluffball of a pokemon had become absolutely drenched with rain water. "Shh, shh, we'll get you dried off, calm down." Aethra pouted up at her partner, but quieted down anyways. The shy petilil at his feet, who had lovingly dubbed Poppy, was happily sitting in some mud, enjoying the moist and nutrient-rich soil of route 102. Her little eyes widened as the smacking of footsteps on the wet path caught her attention, alerting her to someone's presence. "P-p-p-p...!" She stuttered, clinging to Kevin's ankle.
"Hmmm?" The ranger looked down at the little green pokemon, eyebrows knit together in concern. What had her so riled up? His question was answered as another boy rounded the corner, staring down at the phone in his hands. Kevin's throat tightened suddenly - he hoped that the other male hadn't seen him, and didn't try to start a conversation. He was nervous about talking to new people, and when that new person was a rather attractive male, it only doubled his anxiety. Aethra, sensing her partner's nervousness, decided to do something. "Prrr! Prrr!" She cried, trying to get the trainer's attention. She didn't sense any bad intentions from this stranger, and Kevin desperately needed more friends, despite what he said about preferring to be alone. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Oh look, another trainer? He might've passed them by after a sweeping glance, but Dmitri noticed they were sopping wet and some of them covered in mud. He had a tablecloth tucked away in his backpack for a picnic blanket, but their need seemed more urgent.
"Hey, I've got something you can dry them off with. I don't mind if it gets a little dirty..." He was pacing towards the stranger, but he didn't want to intrude so closely. A hand slipped his cellular device deep into his pocket before sliding the backpack off a single arm and letting it collapse on the ground. Unzipping it he rummaged around until he found a red-and-white checkered tablecloth massive enough to wrap them all up, several times over. "Be careful how much you unravel."
Handing the tablecloth over to the stranger, Dmitri insisted on him accepting the offer. "My name's Dmitri." He gulped. "What's yours? And the little guys'?" Dmitri gestured towards the two grass-types in earnest. They look like bizarre plants.
