she regrets forgiving him already. cass just can't resist. she sighs as he pulls her up -- using the clean hand, thankfully -- and brushes herself off. he better prove himself.
she glances at the cut on his jaw. it probably stings like a bitch. she's probably need to treat it later, because god knows he doesn't take the time or effort to address it properly.
"thanks." she says. she's in jean shorts and a blouse. cass expected to stay in the bar for a while, but now that she's outside its chilly. she shivers, slightly envious of the hoodie that rory wears.
cass tenses when he takes her hand, but she reluctantly lets him. this is platonic. totally platonic. she reluctantly relaxes. it just feels natural to her. she starts to walk alongside him.
rory noticed when she shivered. he contemplated for a bit, wondering whether or not he should give her his hoodie. that would be proper thing to do. but they were holding hands. finally. and it felt good. it put a huge stupid smile on his face that was barely visible under that hoodie. might as well do the gentlemanly thing.
"shit until i came along, yeah?" he chuckled. he reluctantly let go of her hand and placed both hands on his hoodie. he pulled upwards and took the hoodie off. his shirt lifted up a bit. a cold breeze passed by. but it wasn't cold for him. he was used to it. his abs did hurt, though. from that fight earlier.
"here," he said. he handed her the hoodie and smiled. he's given her a few of his jackets and hoodies before. he's never seen them again though. this one was a grey hoodie. one of his favorites.
"you look cute in it," he complimented her again. once she was done putting it on he grabbed her hand again and walked towards the donut shop. not too far now.

"it went shit when you came along." she snorts, "like it always does." it was true. she was having a great time -- until the fight and everything else. now she's here. with rory. alone.
she looks up in surprise when he lets go of her hand. his is pretty cold in the first place, but she misses the feeling. oh man, he was taking it off now. she shakes her head. "n-nooo no that's--" she starts but the wind blows again and she quickly changes her mind.
sometimes she wishes that rory isn't so fucking tall. the hoodie dwarfs her body but she can't deny that it's warm. and smells good. cass crosses her arms and snorts. she denies, "no i don't."
her face heats up under all the attention she's getting. when he grabs we hand again she loosely grasps it. it feels nice, she has to admit. she knows that she should stop. but she can't.
the two soon made it to the donut shop. the cold has helped stopped the bleeding apparently. now it was just a matter of it was infected or not. rory doesn't take good care of himself, really. he lets cuts and bruises go untreated for the longest time possible. a bad trait to have for someone who's in so many fights.
the donut shop was open, lucky for them. not too many people as well. they walked into the shop, got their donuts, then headed over to an empty booth. he slid into the seat opposite hers and took out his donut from the bag. sugar donut. his favorite. he took a bite as he watched her. nah, this wasn't cozy enough.
he got off his seat and slid into the one next to her. "it was too cold over there," he said. he leaned in closer to her and smiled. "i miss us."
"do you?" he asked as he tugged on her arm, resting his shoulder against hers.

cass sets herself on the opposite side of the booth, taking a bite out of the donut. it's a little too big for her mouth, so when she takes a bite out of it she ends up getting her face coated with sugar. gross.
she licks it off, although she ends up missing a couple spaces. rory stands and slides into her side of the booth. cass shakes her head in exasperation, but she doesn't push him away. "like you would be complaining of the cold." she snorts. he never did. she did have his hoodie, but given the chances, rory probably wasn't all that cold.
what he says next feels like a punch to the gut. it's the feelings she's been bottling up. cass's heart pumps fast, and she looks away from rory. he tugs on her arm. they're learning against each other -- or at least, rory's leaning against her. what is she supposed to say?
"no. i don't" cass says, wondering if it's more for rory or herself. she wishes that she could return to bantering and blaming him. she can't lie -- she likes the feeling of rory sitting next to her. she soaks up the attention that he showers her in. but she doesn't know if it would be worth it.
"i don't." she reaffirms, but even cass knows that she's doesn't quite believe it herself.
his heart skipped a beat when she replied. no. it felt bad, he wasn't going to lie about that. but he kept his mouth shut. when he heard her second remark he knew. he knew she missed him too. if she was sure she wouldn't need to reassure herself. the second remark put a smile on his face again. his heart felt relieved.
he looked over and was just about to speak until he saw the mess was making with the donut. he chuckled and placed his down on the table. he grabbed a napkin and reached over to her face. "hold still," he said. but instead of wiping off the sugar from her cheeks with the tissue he used his lips instead, giving her a quick peck on the cheek.
"tasty," he said. he licked his lips and laughed. hopefully she wouldn't mind. he rested her head against her shoulder. he just wanted to give all the attention in the world.

rory knows too well. he knows that she's lying -- that she misses him as much as he misses her. maybe even more. she could see his smile, because he knows. she could deny it all she wants, but there's no avoiding it.
he puts down his own donut, grabbing a napkin. what, did she still have sugar on her face? cass freezes, unsure of whether she should push away his hand or not.
and then the bastard kisses her. cass's cheeks burn bright red. she looks away from him to try and hide it, flipping the hood over her head. oh god, that was too...cute. romantic. she should have expected rory to pull some shit like this.
but she basks in it. she loves it. her stomach turns and flips, but it feels really good. cass can't do this with any other guy. she relaxes into the cushion of the chair.
she's even a bit tempted to run her hand through his hair, but she knows its crossing a line. a vague, thin line. cass sighs and closes her eyes. she can't bring herself to say it out loud, but she definitely thinks it.
his kiss made her cheeks turn a bright red. he smiled when she tried to hide it. she pulled up the hood and looked away. she can hide all she wants but he knew. he knew that she loved it. it was evident when she started to relax a bit. and he did too. being with her calmed him down a lot. he was never violent with her. never raised his voice. only that one time. but he tried to forget about it.
his hair was basically poking her in the face. it was spiky. it was weird. it spiked up naturally. not as much as it was normally but some wax helped. he moved his bloodied hand and placed it on his lap. he couldn't feel his jaw anymore. the pain just numbed. yeah, it was probably infected. but he just laughed at it.
"you know," he said. he lifted his head off of her shoulder and grabbed her hand, holding it in his as he spoke. "blushing makes you look adorable as fuck," he smiled. he pulled her hoodie down and gave her another smooch on the cheeks. swift movements.
"then again everything you do is adorable," he winked. he was loving this. he ruffled his hair a bit with his free hand and picked up his donut again. he took a bite and sugar got all over the side of his lips. he just smiled at her.

cass eyes the cut on his jaw and the blood on his knuckles. it's stopped bleeding, but it probably hurt like a bitch. it needs tending to. soon, if not right away. but she doesn't dare break the moment of peace that they have. it's too nice to interrupt.
fuck. she hates how he makes her feel. but she also loves. it. cass knows that she should walk away now, but she can't resist. she grips his hand like she's holding for dear life. his compliments only make her blush even harder. there's a certain type of feeling that comes with vulgarity and compliments.
"no it doesn't." she says, but kiss makes it even worse. she puts her hands on her face and hide from him. what happened to the cass that was resilient? strong? that cass that she wants to be. all gone because of this one person.
now she's even more conflicted. cass sinks down further into the seat. "rory..." she whispers, but she doesn't know what to do. she doesn't know what to say. but she can't hide the smile that graces her face. cass shakes her head. from what, she doesn't know.
there's a part of him that knows this was wrong, that they shouldn't be doing this. not because of their positions as leaders of two criminal organizations, no. but because he wasn't sure if he would be able to control himself. he hurt her last time by doing something he just couldn't resist doing. what's to stop him from doing the same again?
no. he was going to stop himself. he had to.
rory. he looked over. he could see the smile on her face. it put one on his too. he can't remember the last time he's been this happy. genuinely happy. sure he had all the girls at aqua. but they couldn't compare. he doesn't feel this way when he's with them.
"never," he replied. he smooched her again, but her hand was in the way. no problem. he could stop there with the smooches. end the night like that. but no. he had to keep going.

oshe tries to wipe the grin off her face, but she can't. when was the last time she felt this happy? she can't remember. all the guys that she's known could never compare to rory.
she laughs as he kisses her hands. what a romantic he always is. she could feel it, on the back of her hand. it feels good.
but then he says the three words, and suddenly that feeling is gone. she freezes. the ground drops from her, she puts down her hands to stare at him in shock. he...loves her? it takes a moment to process what he says.
when it finally gets through, her face suddenly morphs from a shock to horror. she closes everything off. right now she needs to leave. cass jumps out of the booth, gathering her possessions and walking briskly out. she holds her head in her heads, because she can't believe it. he can't still possibly love her after all these years. she can't possibly still love him. she couldn't.
he took it too far. he should have kept his mouth shut. they were doing so well. they were happy. and then three words ruined everything. he returned her stare as well. he was confused. why was she so surprised? he wasn't expecting her to take it this badly. she jumped out of the booth and quickly exited the donut shop. he followed her out, dropping his donut on the floor on the way out.
"cass," he called out. he caught up to her and stops her by placing a hand on her shoulder. suddenly the pain from the fight before rushed back to him. the numbness went away. "what's wrong? was it something i said?"
but he knew the answer to that. his head hung low as he rubbed the back of his head. he wasn't feeling too good anymore. his heart wasn't in the right place. but he still smiled at her.

she shoves the door open, walking out into the chilly air. she tenses when he puts a hand on her shoulder. it takes her a moment to find the courage to turn around. rory's smiling at her. it only makes the shards in her chest dig deeper.
"i-i don't know." she admits, because she doesn't really know how to react to anything at the moment. certainly not to i love you. because that means that rory still does after six years. after he cheated on her. because how can a cheater still love the person he cheated on?
she shakes her head, because there's too many thoughts going on at once. she shrugs off his hand, wrapping her arms around herself. "i'm fine." she says, avoiding his question.
"i'm fine." cass repeats, because she isn't sure that she believes anything she says anymore. she turns to glare at him, suddenly angry. rory has to ruin everything, doesn't he? he can't just leave her alone for once.
his hands found refuge in his pockets when she shrugged it off. it hurt. not from the fight before. but because of her. it's funny how someone's mood can do a complete one-eighty in a few seconds. with just three words.
he hated being in this position. she went from confused to angry and now he was the one being attacked. he hated it. he was supposed to be strong. be someone people could fear. he needs to be on top. and now cass was making him feel like shit. was the fight from before even worth it?
her glare made him look away. he couldn't stand it anymore. he felt vulnerable. he turned away, letting his back face her. fuck his wounds. he didn't care anymore.

he looks so devasted. for once rory wasn't smirking. cass feels guilty. did she really have that much of an impact on him? he doesn't have a come back. her words don't just bounce off him anymore. perhaps he did really change. he turns and leaves, but cass suddenly changes her mind. she can't stand to watch him go.
"wait, rory--" she says. she runs up to him, putting a tentative hand on his shoulder, "i'm sorry." she swallows the lump in her throat. it's the hardest thing she can make herself say. maybe she took it too far. maybe she was lying.
"stay." cass says, because it's better having him there then not. it feels like a toxic relationship, but she can't cut him out. not when they're in so deep.
rory doesn't deserve it just because she's confused. he only uttered three words. those three words that such an impact on her - cass realizes it now, why she freaked out when she did. because she wasn't fine. she hasn't moved on.
