Kristmar was certain that his travel companion had vanished into thin air today. Ever since ariving at Oldale, it'd been hard to get a hold of the guy outside of the guest house they were staying at and he seemed pretty eager to get to Petalburg. To be honest, Kris couldn't blame him; that was where the first gym was and he wouldn't be surprised if Nikkie's disappearances were really him getting some extra training in. They might be coordinators, but they still had to challenge the gyms regardless lest they wanted to test their pokémon's obedience. It was like the creatures had a sixth sense for who or who could not control them, something which Kris knew very well after struggling for months on end with his assigned party in Magma. That fucking poochyena. That shitty mutt who constantly ignored his orders. Kris was glad he was no longer around. [break][break] But... anyway... even if Nikkie was about training somewhere, an invite to at least watch would've been welcomed. [break][break] The blonde, shoes off and jeans rolled up to his knees, was sat on the embankment of the small lake found on the route above Oldale just... killing time, really. He dipped his feet in the cold water, idly kicking them about lazily, as he watched the magikarp swim aimlessly about in the depths. Deimos, his gible, was tucked against his side - the annoying pest - and vigorously nuzzling into his trainer's side with his snout and the reason? Kristmar held a sandwich in his hand which he was steadily eating his way through. [break][break] "Lieber Gott," he grumbled, pushing the toothy gible away with a hand on his face. "I told you already, you can't eat this; this is human food. Didn't I already give you breakfast already?" Second breakfast seemed like a good option to Deimos though, who remained undaunted and skittered around to the other side of his trainer to try his luck again. Kris tutted with a sharp 'tsk'. He knew he shouldn't have started throwing his crusts into the water for the magikarp. [break][break] He says he only wants a little bite, came Adelaide's voice, ringing softly in Kristmar's mind. And that he'll leave you alone. [break][break] Kristmar snorted and turned his head around to look at the psychic pokémon who had remained silent up until now, content with staring into the lake's depths like her trainer. Adamant, the blonde pushed away the shamelessly begging gible again, letting that be his answer.
stunky quietly walks out of the bushes and into the open. he's quite thirsty, and a trip to the lake wouldn't hurt. he doesn't really notice the human, his sole target is the water. stunky sips a little from it, minding his own business.

Kristmar fucking smelt the stunky before he saw it. It was a truly repulsive odour and he even opened the sandwich he was eating to make sure those weren't rotten tomatos or spoiled eggs that Niklaus had put in his sandwiches. He squinted, uncomfortable, and wrinkled his nose in distaste. His food was fine but... fucking hell, how could anyone eat anything over a rancid smell like this? It was worse than a miltank farm on a humid and hot summers day. [break][break] And, just like how Kristmar had smelt it, Deimos did as well. His sense of smell being much more honed than that of his trainer's, he pinpointed the origin of the putrid scent within an instant and whipped around, forgoing the sandwich for now. Innocently and unaware, the stunky lapped at the lake's refreshing water and the gible's nostrils flared before he gave a nasal bark, alerting his trainer to the creature's presence. [break][break] And just before he dashed over to the placid pokémon as well. It stank like something dead but he wanted to see! He wanted to see! [break][break] "D-Deimos!" Kristmar spluttered, throwing his hand out in vain in his feeble attempt to stop the mischievous gible. Undeterred, he sped over to it anyway, wanting to get a closer look at this wild pokémon. It had a nice tail. Nice and spikey and coarse-looking; it looked good enough to bite. [break][break] But, once he got closer, the smell just... reached unbearable levels. [break][break] "Gib-gib!" Deimos recoiled once he was a foot away from the stunky and staggered backwards. Too smelly. Too stinky. No, no. Retreat! Back to trainer! He shook his head vigorously from side to side, his tongue lolling about in disgust, and backed up to his trainer who, by now, was covering his nose with his sleeve while glaring at his foolish pokémon. [break][break] "Leave it alone and keep away from it," he hissed, hoping they hadn't disturbed the foul-smelling creature. "Let it drink in peace and be on its way, Dei."
stunky's startled from the gible's bark. he jumps -- but thankfully, does not spray. it runs towards him but the pokemon quickly ran away. what was the problem? he wanted to be friends! stunky ran towards kristmar and gible -- do they want to play with him?

Please, Gott - if you have mercy - stop this! No-no-no-no, this thing stank to the high heavens! And it was - no - it was coming closer! [break][break] Kristmar made haste to back up, wetting the ends of his rolled up jeans in the lake water as he moved away with some scrambling. He fired Deimos a fleeting look, one filled with ire, because he'd... he'd fucking just told him to leave the skunk pokémon alone; had it been such a hard command to follow? Or did his gible really just lack those two neurons needed to listen? It seemed like the dragon realized now why his trainer had wanted to leave the stunky alone because he was the first one to dash around behind Kris' back, hiding with Adelaide. [break][break] "Fuck's sake, Dei!" He hissed at him in a nasal voice and pressed his sleeve more firmly over his mouth and nose. With his other hand, he tossed his sandwich at the stunky, hoping to distract it with that. Goodbye smoked ham and egg sandwich. Goodbye salad relish. Goodbye tangy salad cream. [break][break] It wasn't like he was hungry any more anyway; the pokémon's dizzying whiff had made sure to destroy that in an instant. Any thoughts of eating something eggy made his stomach churn. [break][break] "Hey... little g-guy," Kris tried to coo, adopting a softer voice , as he delved blindly in his satchel with his other hand. Where were they... they were in this pocket around here some-- Ah! Bingo!"I'm just... gonna..." His thumb tapped the button of the red and white metallic capsule and, hastily, he lobbed it at the stunky. He'd catch it! He'd take it! Anything to just get it away!
oh? a gift? stunky nibbles on the sandwich -- it's delicious. that human is so nice! she smiles. wow, how kind. maybe a hug would be enough compensation? she approaches him even more, but she's suddenly sucked into a pokeball. why not join this human? she gives into the power.
stunky is successfully captured! (you rolled a 3 out of 10!) another pokemon? kristmar mortensen

Thank fuck for that. Kristmar breathed an audible sigh of relief when the stunky was caught without much of a struggle and the light on the pokéball faded. He waved his hand about his face, wafting away the lingering odour the pokémon had left behind, and shrank the capsule down to pocket-size. The skunk hadn't seemed unfriendly in any way, in fact the way it'd looked over at Kristmar - almost hopefully - after eating some of his leftovers hadn't been hostile at all. It was just... its smell. Its stench had been offensive enough for Kris to not feel too bad about capturing it out of the blue. [break][break] "That was your fault, Dei." Kris grumbled, twisting around to point a scolding finger at the dragon. He cowered down and gathered his hands just under his mouth, assuming a submissive and innocent stance. He'd only wanted to see it! The gible made a low purring in his throat and shuffled forward despite his trainer's stern stare. "No. Bad. No chasin' everything, you got that?" The gible just nodded morosely and nipped the end of Kris' finger gently, something which got a heavy exhale from him. [break][break] This gible was such a pain. An adorable... annoying... sweet... and nightmarish pain. [break][break] "Alright, you can go finish off the rest of that sandwich. Go." Kristmar shooed him away towards the crusts and remains of ham and egg that the stunky hadn't been able to finish, the gible shooting off no sooner had he received the slightest encouragement. His scolding miraculously much better now. The blonde's lips pulled into a taut line and he offered his ralts a slightly despairing look; at least she listened to him. There was still some hope. Turning back to the water, he dipped his feet back in up to his knees and lifted her up onto his lap while looking at his caught stunky. [break][break] Not exactly a contest pokémon but... maybe he'd always be able to trade it. Hfff... he pocketed the pokéball and gave his ralts a small pat on her small head.
seviper slithers across the grass. there's a loud commotion by the lake. was it something interesting? he's quite hungry. he eyes the ralts on the side of this trainer. he flickeres his tongue. delicious. seviper coils up, and like a spring lunges forward to take a bite out of the ralts.

Now that the creature's hideous stench was no longer make his eyes water, Kristmar's focus had drifted back to the magikarp swimming around in the clear depths of the lake. He gave his toes a little wiggle in an attempt to catch the attention of one of them but the dopey things didn't notice. Hmm... he wondered if they sold fishing equipment in Petalburg; Kris wouldn't mind trying his hand at fishing again. [break][break] Kristmar was wrenched out of his thoughts by an ear-piercing wail that rang in both his eardrums and mind as ralts shrieked in distress both vocally and telepathically, unable to control herself. The blonde very nearly jumped clean out of his pants at the horrendous noise and he whipped around so fast his neck made a little click. All he saw though was the sinewy bodice of a seviper, its dark scales glittering with a slight iridescence, as... it clasped his poor ralts tightly in its maw, sinking its curved fangs into her flesh. [break][break] "A-Adelaide!" Kris whispered as he sucked in an alarmed breath and reached out on instinct to physically pry the unfortunate creature from the snake's mouth. "Spit her out, you big brute!" [break][break] Once the small psychic pokémon was safely in his arms, where she trembled and recoiled, flinching in pain, Kristmar staggered backwards a few steps with little grace. Gott, h-he hadn't seen it coming! The seviper had approached them with such stealth, it'd caught them all by surprise, enough for Kris to have ever paled a couple of shades. How dare it try to make a lunch out of one of his pokémon. [break][break] "Deimos!" Kris barked, managing to keep his unsettled voice from wavering. "Get that seviper; use dragon rage!" As commanded, Deimos, who'd witnessed this whole scene just as stunned as Kristmar (with a sandwich crust hanging from his mouth in awe), charged after the snake who'd attacked one of his team with an enthusiastic ire. He channeled his anger into power, expulsing it in a terrible outburst aimed at his new foe. Meanwhile Kris let his eyes drop to his ralts, checking the small puncture wounds, and his gaze softened worriedly. Luckily enough... it appeared as though it was just a superficial bite.
ralts is pried of seviper's jaws. he hisses, trying to keep it shut, but the human has panic and fear on his site. he manages to extract his lunch out and stumble backwards.
seviper hisses in pain as he's tackled by the dragon. he can't be beaten by this weak land shark. seviper rushes forward in order to take another bite at the gible this time.

The way Adelaide whimpered in his arms, clearly rattled by the bite attack, just made Kristmar seethe more. It'd been such an unprovoked and sudden attack, she'd just been sat there, minding her own business, doing nothing at all to invite a wild seviper's aggressiveness. He shushed her gently in attempt to soothe her and calm her down but she was apparently having none of it, too shaken at having been held in the toothy mouth of a pokémon that dwarfed her in size. [break][break] Kristmar gritted his teeth and tsked, letting her nestle against his chest although specks of blood stained his navy blue V-neck shirt. She was just a baby still, for crying out loud. He looked up to the battle, in time to see the seviper swing its mouth for his gible this time. The creature's fangs caught the dragon on his side and he yelped indignantly and in pain, struggling to get free from the strength behind this pokémon's jaw. [break][break] "Okay, okay... Deimos!" He shouted to get the gible's attention. "Use earthquake, let the seviper have it!" [break][break] Funnily enough though, snakes were actually Kristmar's preferred type of pokémon; the way their lithe bodies moved with ease yet with grace astounded him, their sleek silhouettes and the sheer strength they possessed despite being limbless was amazing. They were perfect contest pokémon as they embodied all the attributes Kristmar sought. They were just... reknown to be a handful, but even that just added to their dangerous charm. [break][break] Kris hurriedly hopped back a few steps as Deimos locked eyes with the seviper's slitted pupils, feeling the earth begin to tremble just the slightest bit. This attack had a wide range of effect, they'd practiced it quite a bit but never had the chance to use it in a real battle until now. It was wildly powerful and hard for such a young pokémon to control; the power Deimos put into it was inconsistent at best when they tested it out as sometimes it was too weak and then... sometimes it was too much and Kris ended up on his ass clutching the ground and crying for Dei to stop. Maybe this time, given that Deimos had an actual target to focus his rage on, they'd have more luck. [break][break] The ground's trembling grew and Kris held Adelaide tighter now that they were at a safe distance. The already rippling surface of the lake lapped at the shore with more energy, choppily sloshing against the embankment, and the blonde heard the rustling of trees as their boughs were shaken. The quivering earth reached a crescendo and, suddenly, the ground opened under the seviper and gible with a tremendous roar, cracking and pushing upwards with considerable force.
spikes of rock shoot up from the ground, heading towards the seviper. he manages to dodge some of it, but suddenly a rock comes from right under him and hes launched into the air. seviper lands in a heap a little far aways, unconscious.

Even Kristmar flinched when the earth tore open underneath the seviper and flung it cleanly into the air. Ground type moves were very effective against poison pokémon and Kris didn't mean to abuse the type advantage he had but... it'd teach it a thing or two about preying on his hatchling. With a low rumbling, the broken ground receded back into the earth's crust before all was, once again, eerily still, including the snake pokémon. Pidgeys chirped in the distance after a few moments and the lake's waters calmed, only the scarred ground served as proof of the gible's formidible taught move. [break][break] "Nice, Dei," Kris praised the dragon, who came toddling up to him, looking a little drained and sweaty after such a show of power. "That'll definitely teach it." [break][break] Wow, this seviper was definitely out for the count though. Kristmar tentatively approached it, wary of the creature suddenly springing back into life and trying to take a bite out of his leg (he'd suffered enough abuse at the claws and teeth of pokémon lately, thank you very much). The impressive beast, its body as wide as his own and its length feet taller than he was, was still and defeated. He exhaled a relieved breath and patted his ralts on her back, jostling her soothingly as he cradled her, much like you'd do with an unsettled baby. [break][break] "That's that then." His hand moved from her injured back and to his satchel thrown haphazardly over his shoulder, looking for an empty pokéball. He found the capsule and promptly threw it at the unconscious snake without further ado. With a little training and obedience, it'd make a fine contest pokémon. "How're you doin', Addy? Does it still hurt?" [break][break] It's... f-fine now, you can put me down, she whispered, as gentle as always but still audibly jarred, I'm sorry, I didn't see him coming. I-I didn't-- [break][break] "Don't worry yourself," Kris sighed, carefully lowering her onto the ground so that gible could storm over to her and start sniffing her wounds with his snout and giving little yips. His way of showing he worried as he paced circles around her. "I should've been paying more attention. I forget there's predators out here at times."
oddish hears the battle from afar. it's a terrible, terrible sound. the earthquake fills her with fear. what if she was in the path? she doesn't want to risk angering the trainer and his pokemon. she's in the ground but her leaves sway slightly. oddish summons a sweet scent just in case.

What was that glorious smell? Compared to the stunky's fetid stench this was... heavenly. The gible's little nostrils flared as he tasted the sweet scent that lingered on the air and made quiet snorting sounds as he wandered in a tight circle, trying to pinpoint its origin. Kristmar, who was gathering up their things in preparation to leave, didn't notice how his dragon began to wander off. Adelaide did, however, and tenatively began to follow him out of curiosity. [break][break] She followed the gible up to a funny-looking shrub that quivered slightly despite there being no notable breeze but she hung back a little. She watched, unsure, as Deimos unceremoniously shoved his snout into the concealed oddish's leaves and began snuffing greedily, inhaling more of its delectable scent. [break][break] "Addy, Dei, we're--" A spluttering sound left their trainer as he cut himself off. "Oi! What're you doin' now Deimos? Get your nosy ass back over here." [break][break] But no, this smelled too good. This was heaven! He rustled the pokemon's leaves as he nuzzled them happily, uncaring that his trainer was firing him a very stern look. Adelaide retreated a little, not wanting to be scolded, and trotted over to Kristmar who waited with a hand on his hip and his lips pulled into a taut and unimpressed line. [break][break] "You've got until the count of three to leave that bush alone. Don't make me come over there." He said in a warning voice. "One..."
