Penelope sighed as she made her way through the paths to Petalburg City. She had long left the house with the blue door behind her, and was now facing a long night of contemplation and hopefully peace of mind. She ran her hands along her face and sighed loudly, letting the small Fletchling she had caught out of his pokeball after a long wait.
"Hi there... I know you're probably scared..." She stroked the wings of the fletchling, who stared up at her like she was going to murder him or something. "I won't hurt you, I promise." Penelope sighed softly and glanced around at the expansive fields, seeing if there were any pokemon to battle. She needed to train this little guy up so he wouldn't be so scared anymore.
time for a battle. foongus dropped from a nearby tree and ran over to the trainer and her bird. she waved her arms at her, signalling that she wants a battle.
Penelope raised her eyebrow as the foongus ran up to her and started waving it's arms around. Her first instinct was to kick it straight away from her new pokemon, but Wyck squacked at the little mushroom and tittered to be free of her arms so he could chase the little pokemon.
With a quirk of her eyebrows, Penelope let Wyck go, who immediately went after the foongus, hitting it with a quick attack. Penelope grinned a bit at his enthusiasm, and shrugged her shoulders. If he wanted to fight, there was nothing she could do about that.
"Great job, Wyck. Try it again." She encouraged, motioning for him to go try another move. Wyck lunched forward and tackled the foongus to the ground.
ouch! two attacks and the foongus was almost down. she regretted taking this battle now. but at least the fletchling didn't know any fire moves. that would have knocked her out immediately.
Penelope watched as the foongus used absorb to take away Wyck's health, although it wasn't much. She pointed her finger at the little mushroom and glanced towards Wyck, eyebrows raised. Tackle seemed to do a much better job than quick attack, so she decided to give it a go once more.
"Wyck, use tackle twice this time. Knock it out, if you can." She motioned to the foongus and Wyck screeched happily in agreement, before heading after the foongus. After one tackle, he circled back around and hit the pokemon again, knocking it clear over. Penelope let her hands rest by her side, fists clenched as she waited for the verdict of Wyck's attacks.
maybe she needed more practice with weaker pokemon. and maybe with a wild pokemon instead. speaking of which here's another wild pokemon looking for a battle!

Penelope stared as another pokemon emerged from the bushes, ready to fight Wyck. She raised her eyebrows as the little guy blew bubbles towards Wyck and laughed a bit as Wyck just shook them off like they were nothing to worry about. What a good pokemon.
She rubbed his feathers gently and motioned for him to get back out there and fight the little surskit, smiling and giving him a thumbs up as he braced himself for his own attacks. "Go get 'em, Wyck. You're doing great!" Penelope grinned. Wyck gave a reassured cry before going after the surskit with two tackles.

Penelope bit her lip as the surskit sent forward another barrage of bubbles that seemed endless. Once it had ended, however, she knew that Wyck was in a bit of trouble. She mulled over what she should do, even glancing down to her bag to get Bruce out, but decided against it. Wyck was still standing, after all.
"Don't let her push you around like that, Wyck. You can do it. Finish it with another two tackles." Penelope stated simply, watching as Wyck shook off his pain and sped forward, hitting the surskit with the full force of his body in two tackles.

As Wyck fell to the ground once the zigzagoon had made it's appearance, Penelope pouted slightly and held out Wyck's pokeball, letting him return to it for his little nap. It was a little sad that he had been shaken down so easily, but that was alright. Maybe next time he could do a little bit better.
Penelope pulled out a new pokeball and released Bruce, letting him take up arms against this new predator that was trying to attack them. "Alright Bruce, give it a good dousing of fire." Penelope pointed to the zigzagoon, narrowing her eyes. "Wyck deserves a little payback." She nodded firmly, thinking of the poor little scared fletchling she had found earlier in the week.

Penelope watched how easily the zigzagoon went down, before raising her eyebrows. It was almost too easy, and she half expected some other random pokemon to come out and avenge its wild brethren. But none came forward, so Penelope just shrugged her shoulders and let her journey continue.
"Alright, well... Good job, Bruce. Thanks for backing me up there." She gave him a scratch behind the ears and pointed along up the path. "You want to stay out with me?" After hearing the agreement in Houndour's calls, Penelope smiled and started walking once more, excited at the prospect of new pokemon to encounter on her journey.
