Finding a battle during this festival was surprisingly easy. It'd attracted trainers from all walks of life and destinations and more than just a couple seemed raring to go at the smallest hint that you were interested. And, for someone who was training in preparation to challenge the first gym when it opened again, this was nothing less than perfect. [break][break] Kris was sat on the steps leading down to the beach, biding his time as he waited for a promising contender to pass. The sun, again, was quite sweltering at this point of the day and he'd tied his long hair back into a messy bun to keep it from irritatingly sticking to the back of his neck. With one of his hands he held a cafeteria pamphlet of some sort (he hadn't even bothered to read it) and was fanning himself with it while watching, with slight envy, how his seviper rolled and hissed merrily about the sand, thriving in these temperatures and uncaring of the amused looks passersby gave him. Lucky sod. The warmer it got, the happier he was. [break][break] "Careful with your tail, at least, Kasimir," Kristmar grumbled to the snake as he eyed the sharpened file on the end of his tail. "You're gonna end up jabbing someone by accident." But the seviper just hissed quietly and continued his frolicking. He knew what he was doing, silly human. [break][break] The blonde huffed and fanned himself with more vigor, he rolled his eyes off to the side where... he spotted a trainer that caught his eye. They were kind of young, at a glance, a few years younger than he was, at least, but that wouldn't matter. [break][break] "Kasimir. Stop that." He muttered with a little more firmness and he slowly sat up straighter. "I think I spotted someone decent enough."

Hmm... what pokémon was that one again? It looked like a steel type of some sort but... ehhh, Kristmar's knowledge was rather limited when it concerned certain types. Certain... clunky-looking and not-contest-material types. His blatant staring managed to catch the boy's attention which was good, albeit a little awkward. It'd been a while since he'd so shamelessly looked for a battle. Kristmar offered him a very faint smile and tucked a stray lock of hair behind his ear while he fished out his pokédex from his pocket. [break][break] Bronzor. The bronze pokémon. Steel and psychic type. Ancient people believed that the pattern--- blah, blah, blah. Steel and psychic type. That was what was important. His eyes slid from the illuminated screen, filled with information and various takes of bronzor, and to his seviper who was also looking in the trainer's direction. It'd be a challenge but... Kasimir had a couple of decent moves on him. It'd be worth a shot and, in the least, it'd be interesting. Alright then... he'd just... go up to this stranger and... challenge them, right? [break][break] Pfff, it couldn't be that hard. [break][break] Kristmar got to his feet and brushed down the seat of his denim capris once he pocketed his pokédex again. "C'mon, Kasimir, we're gonna see if we can get a battle," he murmured to the seviper while keeping his sanguine eyes fixed on the other trainer. Pulling himself up to his full height, Kris waved with one hand towards the other male, greeting him cordially, while smoothing down the front of his loose printed tank top with the other over his stomach. [break][break] "Hey there," he chimed, trying to seem natural and offering the other sandy blond a wider smile. "Are you up to anythin' right now?"

Boy, the guy didn't appear too at ease now that he'd gotten closer. He seemed a little tense to tell the truth. But... was it because of him though or...? Kristmar glanced casually backwards over his shoulder, to check if there were anything or anyone behind him but... nothing. Huh. Maybe this one just wasn't too keen on being approached by strangers. But, oh well, everyone loosened up with a good battle. [break][break] Kris brought the café leaflet up towards his face again and promptly began fanning himself once more, his smile softening into a cooler smirk at the boy's admissal that he wasn't up to anything. Perfect. Here they were, two young men with nothing better to do except loiter around and suffer under the sun; there really was no reason why they couldn't have a little battle. [break][break] "Oh, in that case..." He trailed off for a moment, letting his seviper slither his way closer to the conversing pair. "...I was wondering if you'd like to battle." His vibrant crimson eyes sharpened a little, gaining a mildly challenging glint to them as they narrowed just the slightest bit, daring him to turn him down. "Just to, y'know, pass the time a little. It's too hot to do anything else. Unless... you have something better to do, boy."

Good. In the end it appeared as though challenging a passing trainer really was as easy as they made out. The last time Kris must've purposely gone after a stranger for a battle like this... must've been back when he was still in Magma, scouting for those fanatical and sea-worshipping Aqua members. This was much more refreshing though. [break][break] Kris scanned their whereabouts with a disinterested regard, indifferent about moving along the beach a little to a lesser frequented area. He merely shrugged his shoulders and conceded the stranger's request. "Sure, I guess," he replied, beginning to head over to where the beach melded into the outskirts of the Petalburg forest. Not many people hung around there. "Over here should do." Kris gestured in the direction of the empty expanse of beach with a tilt of his head for his seviper to follow. As he walked, he ceased his fanning and instead delved both hands into the pockets of his capris and glanced back over his shoulder at the other trainer. [break][break] "I suppose it'd only be polite to give you my name if we're going to battle,"he mused out loud with another humoured smirk once he finally came to a stop near the back drop of trees. "I'm Kristmar." His seviper took up position a few feet ahead of his coordinatior, leering gently at the boy they'd challenged, and swished the filed end of his tail slowly yet with purpose. They were ready when the other team was.

That was a simple enough name to remember. William. Kristmar gave a gentle shake of his head and chuckled faintly; his brazen scouting for a battle hadn't gone amiss, apparently. He reached up to retie his hair, to put it up in a tighter bun that didn't let so many strands and flicks of hair escape. "I wouldn't say a lot of scouting," he admitted, "I was waiting for someone of interest to pass by." He might've been after a battle but he didn't want to pick on children either. This William person, with their bronzor, looked like a decent enough challenge for him. [break][break] Kasimir gave an impatient hiss and a swish of his tail, making his trainer's attention be drawn to him for a moment. [break][break] "Yes, yes... we're going to start now." He hummed to the surly seviper. Turning his focus back to William, he gestured to their impromptu battling field with a sweep of his hand. "We're ready when you are. Kasimir's getting rather antsy." In response the powerful snake threw his head up and made his sinewy bodice writhe along the sand, pushing it around. He'd been ready for hours! Now it was time to finally sink his fangs into something worthwhile!

Kristmar's regret in not seizing the chance to move first came very quickly, in spite of it only being expected and fair that he allowed the challenged to have the first attack. The opponent's first barrage of psychic waves that aimed to lull his seviper into a deep sleep failed, simply deflecting off the snake's thick scales, but then the second left his pokémon drowsy, sluggish, until he couldn't withstand it any more and the seviper flopped cleanly down on the sand. Kris' apparent annoyance was clear as well; his lips pursed into a taut line and he gained a very pinched look. [break][break] "This is no time to be sleeping around," he grumbled, more so to himself than anything, as he hurriedly delved into his satchel for a medical spray that'd jolt the sleeping seviper up in an instant. He strode the couple of steps over, before the bronzor reassumed his attack, and peppered his pokémon straight in the face with the yellowish liquid. He gave the side of the seviper's head a couple of gentle smacks, helping to rouse him, as he blinked his blearly eyes open and regained consciousness. [break][break] "Weren't you eager to battle? Don't let that move get you again." His voice was stern as he pulled away, although both of them knew it wasn't exactly the serpent's fault. "Use swagger!" [break][break] Kasimir shook his head roughly, shaking away the last vestiges of sleepiness clinging to him, and set his eyes in a harsh leer at his foe. His fierce glare was challenging at the same time, as if he were daring his foe to move, taunting him subtly with a condescending air. The serpent raised his head in a superior fashion and slowly began to move with an exaggerated sway of his coiled body, pacing in front of the bronzor with arrogant grace.

Good, the bronzor fell for his pokémon's boastful display, letting itself be taunted into a confused frenzy, but it appeared as though it'd luckily retained enough focus so that he could still form attacks. Kasimir managed to roll out of the way of the first one but the second wave of debilitating psychic energy ended up striking him. He hissed loudly his displeasure, throwing his head energetically from side to side to shake off the aggravating vibrations that thrummed in his brain.
"Kasimir, Kasi." Kristmar shouted to make the seviper snap back to attention. He rasped at the bronzor and swished his tail aggressively, coiling himself up tightly to prepare to launch an attack. "Use lick! And bite it while you're still close."
The poison type sprung forward and opened his mouth to an unnaturally wide angle characteristic of a serpent pokémon. His long forked tongue, coated in paralysing saliva, slid over his curved fangs menacingly as he went in for the attack, aiming to lick the steel pokémon and then sink his sharp teeth into it.

Perfect. Now with the bronzor both confused and paralysed for the time being, that certainly gave Kristmar more of an advantage in this round. Beaming to himself, Kris decided to not let the steel type have a chance to recover from either of its status ailments and gave Kasimir, who was equally elated, his next move.
"Bite again, Kasi, you've almost got him!"
The seviper's eyes were flashing with a menacing glee. The predator in him grinned widely, seeing his current prey defenseless on the sand, unable to move. He hissed loudly, his tail swishing from side to side, as he slithered up to the bronzor to coil tightly around him. Again, he opened his mouth wide, giving the smaller pokémon a good view of his full set of curved teeth before lunging forward to take a bite out of him.

Kasimir was raring to go for more when William called back his fainted bronzor. The snake hissed viciously, ready for a chance to sink his fangs into something more fleshy than that steel type. The punny name of the trainer's next pokémon got a quietly entertained snort out of Kris, although his amusement was fleeting when the corphish started her attack.
Unable to twist his large body out of the reach of the water pokémon's pincers, both of the vice grips hit their mark with a loud, displeased rasp from the enraged serpent.
"Use bite and grip on, Kasi!" Kristmar called to the furious snake, his eyes glistening as brightly as his scaled body except with a fervent anger. Not needing much prompting, Kasimir hungrily lunged for the corphish, wanting nothing more than to clamp his curved teeth onto its body and really test the endurance of its tough exoskeleton, baited on by the thought of the vulnerable and soft flesh protected by it. "And now earthquake!" The seviper's body, on his trainer's command, coiled tightly and began to thrum with energy, the vibrations passing into the sand beneath him and creating tremors that began to rapidly increase with intensity.

If snakes could laugh, that's what the proud seviper would be doing right now on watching how his foe haplessly bounced up and down due to the vigorous tremours that shook the ground. He threw his head back and made a bizarre rasping and crackling noise, breathy and without body. His malicious taunting was cut short though as one of his opponent's pincers came to clamp around him.
"Dodge that, Kasi!" Kris growled at him, throwing his hand out to the side. "Wrap around its pincer and bite!"
But, ugh, that stupid corphish. She'd really done some damage with that last vice grip. Kasimir didn't want to acknowledge it but he didn't think he'd hold on for much longer. The girl's pincers had done a number on his slender body and his muscles ached with every movement. He could feel how they wailed for reprieve as he attempted to wrap himself tightly around his opponent. This pain, however, just fueled his pique which he channeled into his bite. If he was going down, he wanted to take a chunk of this corphish's shell with him!

Being so tightly coiled around his foe, Kasimir was unable to evade her free pincers this time. Incapable of taking more damage, the serpent finally gave in and his body grew limp around the corphish, his strength rapidly failing him as unconsciousness took over. Kris couldn't be disappointed with the poison type though; he'd put up a considerable battle and rest was the only thing he deserved for now.
"You're up, Deimos," the blonde called to his gible after switching the fainted seviper out for him. With a flash of red light, the smaller dragon was released onto the beach and he gave a couple of excited yips on realizing what was going on. A battle? A battle? He growled scratchily in his throat and hopped up to attention. He was ready to battle!
"Tackle, and then dragon rage, Dei," he ordered the sprightly pokémon who barked his acknowledgement, eager to throw himself into this duel and pick up where Kasimir had left off. Hurriedly, the stocky creature charged off after their opponent to crash into her body with his own and, then, he'd channel a purplish aura, once filled with a dragon's ire, and repeat a similar motion.

Ah... he really hadn't been banking on William sending out a gible as well. At a glance, he looked as though he tied with Deimos in terms of strength but, having a head start with dragon rage... the odds didn't really appear in his favour. The little advantage he'd managed to pry from the other male was going to be wrenched right back in an instant. Thankfully, Deimos was able to circumvent one of his opponent's attacks (after being taken by surprise by the first seeing as the silly dragon chose to marvel at his doppelgänger).
"Dei!" Kris gritted out, concern etched on his features. His gible looked as though he was barely hanging on after that attack. Dragon rage, for young pokémon, was formidably powerful. There was no way anyone in his team could even hope to survive two of them in a single battle. Rather than hope to beat the gible, Kris used this time he had to think who he could send out next. His ralts or his horsea? Both boasted of a decent type advantage...
"Deimos, do the same right back to him," Kris told the severely injured dragon. "Dragon rage!"
Adelaide would probably be the better choice, although he'd relied on her a fair amount lately and the young girl deserved a break... but his horsea was much less prepared. His lips closed and pulled into a thin line, his jaw muscles subtly moved under his skin as he clenched his teeth. The confidence he'd had in this battle, given his good start, was steadily beginning to flag.

There wasn't much he could do for his gible when another round of dragon rage was fired his way. He tried, in vain, to avoid the attacks but with his energy so severely depleted... there was nothing he could do. The attack merely had to brush Deimos and it sapped the last little bit of strength he had from his weathered and weakened body. Kris returned him with simply a sigh, neither disappointed or too enthused about being made to send out his third pokémon.
"Terelle, your turn to have a go," he told the horsea after releasing him from his pokéball. The small seahorse gave a merry nicker, hovering a couple of inches or so over the sand. William's gible, his last pokémon, looked up against the ropes but... if there was anything Kris had learned from his previous battles, was that that didn't grant anything just yet.
The blonde let the horsea adjust himself a little to his very familiar surroundings before giving him his first orders.
"Start with water gun!" He told him, gesturing to the weak dragon a dozen or so meters away. "And then aurora beam!"
Giving a pleased whinny in acknowledgement, Terelle fired a torrent of water from his snout. The jet grew more gelid as the water rapidly began to cool after a moment. Rather than lighter ripples glinting off it where the sun's glare was reflected, soon it gained a more iridescent quality, shining with a plethora of prismatic colours as the water type move he shot at the gible swiftly transitioned into his ice-based aurora beam.

"Good job, Terri!" Kris praised the horsea when his attacks met their target. The small water type made a series of victorious nickers and fluttered his dorsal fin about in merriment. He made his way over to his trainer so he could get his snout rubbed in reward for his small participation that'd resulted in a win. After giving the horsea a little more affectionate praise, he called him back so he could turn his attention back to his defeated opponent.
And he felt a little bad. A little guilty for winning... seeing as he'd been the one who'd gotten him to battle him. Kris began to walk over while scratching behind his ear, his dogged confidence suddenly a little meeker.
"That was a good battle," he told Will in all honestly, bringing his hand down to offer it for a shake. "Had no idea that you'd have a gible too." Kris fell silent for a moment, ruminating a small idea. He reached into his pockets for his pokénav to share his details with the brunette, showing him his IM name so the boy could take note of it if he wanted to. "Get in touch with me, ja? I'll teach that gible there a sweet little move once he's healed," Kris offered, not out of pity but more so to selfishly ease he own niggle of guilt. "And I won't charge. You can have Earthquake for free if you'd like."
