d'vorah darted about, her patterns intentionally unpredictable as she flew. the coordinator snapped her fingers, gesturing here and there as she executed the occasional signal. the bug-type took to the non-verbal commands quickly, having carefully analyzed what her mistress desired of her with very little trouble involved.
"good girl," andrea praised, clapping her hands.
the yanma lowered herself so that she could properly land, flapping her wings until she carefully aimed and perched herself comfortably upon the human's offered appendage.
"still gettin' use to them legs," she drawled.
the insect's legs twitched in response, tickling the exposed flesh of the young woman's arm. releasing a snort, she moved to gingerly pet the creature who reacted with a low chattering noise.
"can believe hotshot was willin' ta sell ya," she muttered. "yer a real sweetheart, ya know?"
"yyynnn," the pokemon replied.
"can't wait 'till ya evolve. yer gonna be worth the money," the coordinator drawled.
It was not hard to notice the other trainer working with their pokemon. With his own standing next to him, Sylvester took the initiative of introducing himself to her. From a short distance away, he approached them while within plain view. "Hello there. I noticed you two and was wondering what you may be practicing for." It genuinely was none of his business, though he could not help but ask anyway. By the looks of it, she was not training her pokemon for battle.
"My name is Sylvester. It's nice to meet another trainer like myself." He garnished a delicate smile, his pokemon doing the same.

"contest," she replied, simply. "imma use this lil' lady here fer a contest one day. best ta issue out commands without havin' ta speak too much so it goes along much more smoothly. ya get me?"
"ynnnn," the bug buzzed.
"here ya go, girl. fer a goodjob"
the yanma was awarded a chunk of dried meat that had been stored away in her mistress's backpack. the insect visibly savored the treat, mandibles working away at the delicious flesh.
"name's andrea," the girl offered, casting him a confident grin. "what's yers?"
her hand once again moved to gingerly pet her pokemon, the creature having now settled partly onto her shoulder. d'vorah's gaze shifted toward the human male, her curiosity all-too clear.
"nice pokemon ya got there, bud. what's his name?"
"Interesting." He had not yet met a literal trainer such as this before. While Sylvester did not quite like to think of pokemon performing for entertainment similar to the circus, the idea did appeal to many. Compared to forcing them to battle, it was actually quite merciful. Best of all, what he had heard is that these pokemon enjoyed performing. So could he really speak ill of it? Obviously not.
"This here is Marley." The Eevee noticed it's trainer referring to him, standing out in front of Sylvester and giving a broad smile, tilting it's head to the side as it proclaimed "Eevee?!" Even Sylvester didn't quite know what the pokemon was trying to get across, but as it gestured it's paw towards the other pokemon, he seemed to get a good idea of what Marley meant to say. "It seems like he's taken an interest in you and your pokemon." He said as much just in case it wasn't obvious as of yet.
"It's probably 'cause he gets lonely. Marley is my only pokemon as of now. How about you? Any other pokemon besides...this guy?" The way he spoke was a telltale sign Sylvester did not very much like this pokemon. Truth be told it wasn't because it was a lame pokemon, but because Sylvester simply disliked all things insect. From the odd eyes and exoskeleton, to the noise of their wings buzzing as they flew—they creeped him out.
"her name's d'vorah. say 'hello', girl," andrea purred.
the bug-type merely proceeded to groom herself, her motions speedy and precise as her forelegs brushed against her mouth and eyes. andrea appeared to be fascinated by this, observing her closely before the coordinator's eyes shifted toward the fluffy creature.
"i got twelve so far," she replied. "froakie, numel, spoink, goldeen... poochyena, stunky, spearow, meowth, bagon, pancham, snivy and this is my yanma here."
she shrugged the shoulder the yanma was settled upon, the creature replying with the characteristic twitching of her head.
"ya wanna meet a few of 'em, marley?"
andrea grinned before looking to her bug-type.
"yer free ta wander, girl. i'll call ya back if i need ya."
"ynnn."
the female's wings flapped, and she rose into the air, she moved, hurriedly examining the boy and his pokemon closely before suddenly darting out of sight.
"she likes ya, i think," andrea said, absently. "lemme get two of mine out."
she carefully selected two capsules before revealing their contents. in a flash of light, a pair of pokemon appeared.
"this is my pancham, sindel. and my poochyena, ferra."
both the pancham and poochyena responded to their respective names, with the fighting-type merely crossing her arms and scowling. ferra approached the eevee, wagging her tail and sniffing at the normal-type.
"Wow, you've got quite a lot of pokemon." He was almost jealous...almost. However, Sylvester knew he would capture some great pokemon like herself, so long as he kept patient. Nobody set out and captured all their greatest pokemon in one day, it was unheard of. Someday he would come to appreciate his time spent as a trainer by being rewarded with the greatest pokemon he could ask for. But not today.
"These two seem interesting." Sylvester knelt down, prompting his Eevee to play around with the other pokemon. While reluctant at first in a timid manner, Marley soon warmed up to the Poochyena and Pancham, returning the curiosity as he prodded Ferra on her nose with his right paw. "It appears Marley's made a friend already." Though it was only their first meet, Sylvester's Eevee seemed appeased by the presence of the other pokemon. "How long did it take you to acquire all of these pokemon, if you don't mind me asking?" It was hard to estimate, though surely it was not an easy task. Without even trying, Andrea's talent had impressed the novice trainer.
"not too long," andrea replied, shrugging her shoulders.
ferra yipped good-naturally in response to the bop to the nose. she bounced around the male, pleased to have made a friend. sindel remained by her mistress's side, chewing on her leaf in an absent fashion as she eyed the eevee.
"not interested, girl?"
"pan," she replied, blunt.
"huh. yer loss."
"pancham."
"i started my journey a month ago. i ain't too good, yet. but 'mm gettin' there. as ya can clearly see, i got mostly dark-types. love 'em all."
andrea picked up her pancham until she was settled comfortably in her arms. the pokemon didn't appear to mind this despite her serious nature, and her eyes eventually fell shut as she lounged comfortably.
"ya plannin' on catchin' a lot or a few? i intend ta constantly switch up my team. more work and shit, but, hey, it'll be worth it in the end."
Hmmm. Sylvester never thought very far into how many pokemon he would catch as a trainer. Judging by the way Marley didn't enjoy being in a pokeball for long, he didn't want to force many others into the PC system. Though, at the same time Sylvester did want to capture plenty of pokemon. There were too many out there not to aspire to train so many. "I suppose I want to catch a lot of pokemon. Though certainly not all of them, or anywhere near that many."
As Marley and Ferra played about, the Eevee playfully tackled the Poochyena, tumbling about with it as the trainers resumed their conversation. "I would also switch my team out a lot, as you mentioned. Perhaps I would set the ones free that I don't plan on training too much." It was a good thing in his mind, for pokemon to be free. Of course, there were always some pokemon that, when a trainer rest their eyes on them—they just had to capture it before it could run away. No matter how much they seemed to not like the idea of being captured by some stranger-of-a-trainer. "Though, I would like to capture some ghost-type pokemon myself. Maybe a dragon or ice-type as well. Whatever is made available to me, really. How about you? Anything in particular you're still trying to catch out in the wild?"
"well, ya see, i already got what i want - mostly."
andrea's face brightened considerably when she realized that this was the perfect opportunity to show off her recently-acquired prize.
"sindel, show 'em our newest addition."
the pokemon opened a single eye, scowling tiredly as she moved to reach over her mistress's shoulder and dig into the contents of her backpack. after several moments, the fighting-type produced a round egg with an odd design to it.
"this is my new baby," andrea purred, grasping the precious object. "a sneasel."
smirking, she adjusted both pokemon and egg in her arms, their weight surprisingly light and easy to handle.
"grrr!"
ferra partook in the game, playfully tussling with the eevee and batting at him softly with her paws.
"i gotta female dragon, myself. if ya ask in the future, she may have eggs fer sell. if yer interested in raisin' one from scratch, i mean," andrea offered.
in exchange for pokedollars, of course. the girl loved her money. and it always went toward her pokemon, anyway.

"Thanks, I'll keep your offer in mind." Though it was a generous offer, Sylvester did not have much money to his name. Along with that, he would have preferred to catch his pokemon, rather than buy them. It just seemed a bit off-putting, though he would adore the pokemon nonetheless.
Moving onto the topic of her egg, Sylvester gave it a rather curious look. "A sneasel egg, really?" That pokemon was considered to be very rare among researchers and trainers alike. To have an egg of one, well, Andrea must have been quite active in her journey for new pokemon. "You're really fortunate to have found something like that. I hope it hatches soon." Looking down towards his Eevee, Marley, Sylvester noticed the two pokemon still having it out in a playful manner. It was nice to see that his pokemon could get along well with others.
"Do you mind if I analyze your pokemon with my pokedex?" He wondered, just as curiously about the contents of the egg, as he barely knew much of anything about these pokemon. They were all pretty cute, though, exempt for the Yanma. Sylvester never liked bugs, and pokemon were not an exception, no matter how powerful.

"go right on ahead," andrea replied, shrugging.
she proceeded to take a knee, removing her backpack from her shoulders before returning her egg to the cushioned interior. her gaze lingered on the round object for a short while before she zipped the pouch closed.
"i actually got her at a gift shop. folk were runnin' fer the rarer types, but, i had my eye on a sneasel and wanted one real bad. my pal got a dragon-type, but he traded it in fer someones growlithe or somethin'," she rambled.
"pan!"
now settled upon the ground, the fighting-type proceeded to stretch.
"so, have ya battled much?"
ferra barked in sindel's direction, attempting to encourage the pancham to play.
"and what are ya plannin' to evolve this eevee here into? or are ya gonna keep him an eevee fer good?"
the fighting-type merely turned her nose and snorted.

"Wow, they traded their dragon-type for a Growlithe? I suppose that's not a bad trade, though personally I don't think I would have done the same." It was nice, though, to hear that not everyone aspired to have a dragon-type pokemon. There were many other types of pokemon out there, just as there were many trainers looking for them. Everyone had their eyes set on something.
Proceeding to scan the egg and then her other pokemon, Sylvester started to understand why the Pancham was a little distant. Other than showing interest in her trainer, they didn't seem to care for playing with Marley or Ferra. Perhaps it was for the best. "I uh..." As he looekd back on his first and only battle, one could tell Sylvester's morale lowered substantially.
"I battled one guy in Littleroot. His Gible defeated my Eevee." At the mention of the defeat, Marley seemed to grow less playful, ears drooping and looking up towards it's trainer. "I haven't battled anyone else since, only wild pokemon. We beat them fine enough, though." It wouldn't have been as impressive as winning against another trainer, but being said with a more cheerful tone, Marley seemed to let the feeling of defeat subside.
"If you're looking to battle me, I would have to refuse. It's more than obvious to me that you'e the better trainer." It was hard to admit this, but Sylvester was not the type to lie to someone's face—or to himself. The fact was he had just began his journey, and it would be some time before he could be considered a good pokemon trainer. However, his Eevee walked back over to Sylvester, nudging it's head against his leg with an affectionate "Eevee." It was reassuring to know his pokemon at least liked him.

the girl tilted her head, mimicking her poochyena's typical show of bewilderment.
"well, yer right. but not completely, nah," she said.
ferra returned to her side, and the young woman sat with a grunt and neatly crossed her legs. her hand patted the affectionate dark-type who panted lightly in response.
"i got more experience, yeah. but, yer underestimatin' yer eevee here. and yer own skill. ya might be fairly fresh, but ya still got a good chance. plus, i ain't no trainer. i focus more on my partner's appeal than anythin' else. i gotta be creative when it comes ta my form."
pancham muttered quietly, crossing her arms and plopping down next to her trainer.
"but, if yer uncomfortable fightin' at the moment, then it's all cool," she said, hiding her disappointment well enough.
she had wanted to witness an eevee's potential before evolution, at least. maybe later, then.
"yer a trainer, then. ya wanna become a champion?"
something clicked in her skull.
"a gible?"
her brows furrowed.
"yer not talkin' 'bout a prissy fucker who looks like a chick, are ya? ... nah, couldn't be. never mind."

"Uh no, I don't think so. He went by the name Darius Valentine." He hoped that would be enough to determine for certain if it was or wasn't who Andrea thought it may have been. "Sorry that I don't want to battle you. I already put Marley through a mean battle, so I want to see how he does against wild pokemon for awhile until I have him fight a trainer's pokemon again." It should have been sufficient reasoning for Andrea to realize why he did not want to battle. Truthfully, he did want to, but Marley was not ready for someone of this caliber. Not yet, anyway.
"I guess you could say that." He noted at the inquiry of whether or not he wanted to be a champion. "Though, I would much rather just have fun challenging the Hoenn gyms, and catch interesting pokemon along the way. Perhaps it would be better said that I aspire to be one of the greatest trainers. Becoming a champion means fame, and I don't do publicity." It was surprising, how much he opened up to Andrea about himself—how he approached her. It was very abnormal for him, but all of her pokemon seemed to draw him in. It was too bad she wasn't quite a trainer. Though that didn't mean she would not have much to say that would help Sylvester. "Do you have any advice for me? Anything would help, really." He patiently waited for her response.

"it's all cool, dude."
andrea waved her hand in response to his refusal to battle. at least he understood his pokemon's own limits. which was perfectly fine. he cared about his pokemon, and the coordinator respected that immensely.
"maybe ya just gotta boost up his defense a bit?"
she snapped her fingers, and ferra barked in response to the noise.
"when i came in, i got offered two tms of choice, yeah? i picked up ice beam and protect. ferra?"
the pokemon growled lowly, crouching a bit as she recognized her mistress's tone.
"demonstrate protect fer the boys."
as soon as she had uttered the simple command, the barrier was erected instantaneously. it surrounded the poke in a sphere of gleaming energy that appeared impressively sturdy to the eye. andrea tapped against the orb, the energy rippling slightly beneath her touch.
"would ya be interested in teachin' yer poke the move?"
