FOR ALL THE AIR THAT'S IN YOUR LUNGS
FOR ALL THE JOY THAT IS TO COME
PARTY
[ SETH ] The Grotle surprised Seth by catching him. The boy smiled and stroked the Pokemon's side as thanks. When the Vulpix jumped on him, a little 'oof' escaped him. The sound was to be quickly followed by giggles as it licked at his face. Seth's Shinx joined her new friend on top of her trainer, trying to get attention from them both. Seth's laughs grew louder and he eventually had to roll over, setting the Pokemon gently on the ground. Maybe he shouldn't let Shinx hang around that Vulpix too much; he didn't want her craving attention like that. In the moment, however, it was fun to have the attention of all these Pokemon. Seth would need to go out and catch some immediately.
Seth righted himself, his hair a tousled mess now. He copied the PokeNav info, sharing his own with her. "I think I'll be able to find my way. It's not too far, is it?" It would be incredible to meet up with this girl at certain milestones and look at how much they both grow. Seth was, perhaps, looking too far into the future. Who knew how this relationship would play out? Maybe Syndra would want to go her own way--a different way than Seth might want to go. Maybe they would even become traveling companions and would get to see each other grow, live and in person. However it happened, Seth was elated to be making friends again.
The Grotle spoke lowly as he received the petting, appreciating the thought of the action. Syndra patted the grass type as well to indicate that he did a good job. Vulpix on the other hand after her little antics on Seth, went back to playing with the Shinx with the satisfaction of getting what she wanted from him. As Seth copied her own info and displayed his own, the female entered the data from the other pokeNav with success. She placed the device away afterwards and leaned against the turtle to listen to Seth's question. "No, not really," she said simply. With her index finger pointed towards the direction of next route she spoke, "It's a straight shot from here to Oldale through route 101. No longer than a thirty minute walk if you don't get lost or preoccupied." That said most trainers usually got lost or preoccupied somehow due to random battles or chasing down a wild pokemon. Making no mention of this, she continued. "Getting to Petalburg from Oldale, it's a bit more complicated since there are two routes connected to Oldale. You want to get on route 102 which is slightly longer than 101 but just as easy. Route 103 has a body of water blocking the way to Slateport but that makes it easy to know if you went the wrong way." It would have been better to show the male a map of the region or at least show him how to see the map app of the pokeNav, but she figured that he already knew about it. Regardless she waved her hand absentmindedly after giving the directions. If one were to go directly from city to city without exploring or taking the time to look around it would have been boring. It was one of the main reasons Syndra kept backtracking as she felt she missed a few things on her first time through the routes. "But there isn't any rush getting there so you should take your time traveling and meeting new pokemon. I'm sure you know that though." In the future she was interested to see how much growth Seth could manage before reaching Petalburg, hoping he didn't get into any trouble along the way.
[ SETH ] The Shinx was happy to have her playmate back, rolling around with the Vulpix a few feet away. Sparks started to appear in her fur. It was probably just from excitement, and certainly nothing dangerous. At most it would make the Vulpix's fur stand up from static. The pair would probably look rather comical in few minutes if they were left to their own devices. Seth caught himself thinking he should probably name the little Pokemon. What would be a suitable moniker for her? Shinxy? No, too simple. Hmm... He would have to come back to this later.
Seth attention snapped back to the directions Syndra was giving him. Like he had assumed, it would be an easy process to cross the next few hurdles. Just a turn here or there, and making sure he doesn't go onto a route he can't cross. Problem was, Seth liked to explore. It was more fun than blindly following the path to this city and the next. When he explored, he found new Pokemon and interesting things and beautiful sights. He wouldn't be able to appreciate Hoenn thoroughly if he breezed through the routes. Once she was done talking, Seth let his gaze drift to the sky, "I'll probably catch a few Pokemon if I can, but it sounds like an easy trip." Despite their agreement about it being a short travel, it would probably take Seth a few days to get all the way to Petalburg.
"I wouldn't blame you if you did," Syndra replied with a knowing smile. While watching her own pokemon and Seth, she remained silent. The male seemed to be thinking things over so she decided not to disturb his thought process. Instead her gaze moved to eye the sparks coming from the Shinx. Vulpix did not seem to mind the electricity that now danced off the electric type's fur, the sensation akin to a bit of a ticklish sting, and so kept on with her play. Soon enough the fur on the fire type would fizz and puff up in an exaggerated way. By the time the fox noticed it, it was too late to stop it. Now looking like an amber colored ball of fluff Syndra hid a coy laugh behind her raised hand. "Oh dear," she would whisper to herself. Now it was more difficult for Vulpix to move but somehow she managed brilliantly. The fire type did not really like how her fur was now and Syndra knew she would have to groom the fur down after the two were done messing around but for now they would deal with it.
As her laughter died down Syndra had turned her attention back to Seth. "Promise me you'll let me know when you make it to Petalburg. I want to see what new friends you've made and I'll help you explore route 104 in the process." Normally the female trainer wouldn't have made that promise but since the male reminded the green haired girl of her brothers so much, there was a hint of her protective roots showing. When she realized it might have been going overboard she did pause. "If that is something you might want of course."
[ SETH ] It was quite the sight to behold, the Vulpix's fur. Who could know that something so sleek and beautiful could turn into such a fuzzy mess? Seth couldn't help breaking down into a fit of giggling with his friend when he laid eyes on the poor thing. His own Pokemon was largely unfazed by the electricity, being an Electric type herself--the difference was hilarious.
The laughing cooled down after a minute or so, and Seth was drawn back into conversation. "I would love that!" Seth rolled over to face Syndra midsentence, adding to the exuberant statement. He didn't see why she would add the latter part that showed doubt. Well, that's not completely true: Seth would have done exactly the same thing. Nonetheless, he was undoubtedly eager to meet her later, and especially to travel with her. "Travelling with friends is always more fun." The boy positively beamed with the sentiment, subtly reassuring Syndra that he felt they were in fact friends already.
Back in his hometown, Seth had a whole crowd of friends, and thought there was nothing better in the world to do than to spend time with them. There hadn't really been as many opportunities to travel, but he had done so a few times--road trips and the like. It was nothing like Hoenn where you had to travel essentially everywhere on foot. Seth just knew it wouldn't be as pleasant an experience to go it alone. It never had been for him.
The younger man's expression had the female beaming, his enthusiasm making the girl enjoy every second. She was glad that Seth felt so comfortable with her already enough for his true personality to show. Vulpix on the other hand upon seeing her new playmate laughing had rushed to her trainer's side for help. Syndra knelt down and picked up the frizzy furred fox and chuckled. "Then its a deal," she would say to Seth as she tried to run her free hand through the mess in an attempt to even it out slightly. Vulpix gave a few noises to indicate comfort but in general the fur didn't look all that much better. There was a brush that Syndra had to fix the fox's appearance however that would be for later when it was actually time to groom the fire type.
From the corner of her eye the flickering lights of the sun growing brighter caught her attention. It would be well into the morning soon enough. The idea of leaving flowed through her thoughts and while she didn't want to part ways so soon she knew that it was about as good a time as any. "I'll probably start moving out soon. I wanted to get back to Oldale before the sun rose too high," her tone was saddened yet held a caring tone. Placing Vulpix back on the ground to say her goodbyes, she recalled the rest of her pokemon to their pokeballs to finish resting for the morning. She trusted to see Seth again soon or at least talk to him so she didn't feel too bad about leaving so soon. If anything it might have been better. "Did you have anything else you wanted to know or ask?"
[ SETH ] It was such a strange personality feature. There was such a large difference between how Seth acted around acquaintances and friends. I suppose everyone was like that, to some extent. It's just that with Seth, he was virtually a different person once he got comfortable. His anxiety was simply somewhat localized. It also appeared it wasn't an incredibly hard thing for others to get past. Just one hurdle and you can gain a close friend. Of course, relationships weren't built so quickly and took some time, but it was a major (and required) first step.
Seth saw the rising sun, too, and groaned. It was time to venture again into the unknown. Who knew what this route held for him? Or the next, for that matter. He supposed it wouldn't be too bad if there was an opportunity for Pokemon, even if he was alone for the trip. "I guess I'll see you in Petalburg, then." Seth didn't sound as excited as he would like. Of course he truly did want to see his new friend later, but leaving was always bittersweet.
The response received didn't sound so enthusiastic anymore. Thus by no means was the words convincing to the female as she placed a hand to her hip. Syndra didn't know how to respond to it. After all she felt the same way currently and she had to force herself to remember her plan for the day. "Oh come on, it'll be fun!" Her voice held a positive tone as she tried to encourage the male. Placing a hand on his shoulder she gave him a comforting smile. There was no doubt in her mind that Seth wouldn't make it within the next few days. The routes were full of wild pokemon and she would be surprised if Seth didn't get lost trying to find them all. "I believe in you. Nothing ventured nothing gained," she added.
Finally deciding it was about time to part ways she whistled for her Vulpix to return to her side. The fire type whined and licked the Shinx's face before running back to Syndra. With everything else all set and ready the female turned her back. Looking over her shoulder she gave a small wave. "I'll see you in Petalburg. I'll be waiting for your message."
[ SETH ] Whoops. Seth hadn't meant for his tone to be so discouraging. He was really just disappointed about having to travel alone, especially right after connecting with someone like this. He supposed that's just how it had to be. Maybe Seth would run into someone new on the trip. Even if he didn't, battling and catching wild Pokemon would be fun anyway.
Seth chuckled as the Vulpix licked his face and gave its fur a last few strokes. He stood up and looked down at his Shinx. She seemed to want to follow Syndra. That made sense, since it looked like Vulpix was probably her first friend. They had gotten along spectacularly, and Seth couldn't help but smile at the recent memory. He looked up as his friend left him, "Yeah, see you there!" He put plenty of effort into seeming enthusiastic about their promised meeting, even giving a big wave to show his commitment. He would get to Petalburg in not too long, and I'm sure there would be plenty for him to do there, especially if he had friends to spend time with.
