it only occurred to finnian that fluffy was lagging far behind when he noticed the distinct lack of ball of fluff in his arms. he turned back to see the eevee trailing some distance behind him. "ya okay, fluffy?" he asked chipperly. the eevee looked exhausted from chasing after the boy.
"c'mere," he murmured, wasting no time to scoop the eevee into his arms. fluffy didn't put up much of a fight. he was too tired to, anyway. he rested his head into the crook of finnian's arm. the silver haired child looked pleasantly surprised. normally, fluffy would be trying to force his way out. guess he was all tuckered out.
he bounced the eevee in his arms gently, wondering if he should have stopped for a rest at oldale. there was no ttime for that, though. briley's words were still lingering on his mind and he was heavily swayed into the idea of being a ranger. "d'you think i could be a ranger, fluffy?" he asked, receiving no response from the now slumbering eevee. his eyes darted towards the branches as he looked at it lazily. "mm, you don't have to give me an answer now! maybe soon, though."
there was a lot to think about and finnian didn't even know where to start.

When Sylvester saw another trainer, rather what he thought to be another trainer making their way up Route 102, he did not hesitate to make way towards the stranger. Before long Sylvester overheard the conversation between him and the slumbering pokemon, speaking out to make sure his presence was known. "So, Professor Birch gave you an Eevee as well? Glad to know I'm not the only one. My name is Sylvester, by the way."
Though, in actuality it didn't make much of a difference. All of the pokemon he gave out were rare, and all pokemon were powerful in their own respect. "What's their name?" Hoping the guy was not opposed to the new company, Sylvester stood in front of him whilst observing the pokemon.
finnian was startled by the stranger. was he talking to him? by the sound of it - that sounded about right. the boy's green eyes lit up. "yeah!" he exclaimed, realising he was too loud for fluffy. looking embarrassed, he lowered his volume. "he's cute, right?" he raised his arms a little, trying to show off fluffy to the stranger.
his lips morphed into an 'o' as he listened to the stranger - sylvester, so he called himself. "i'm finnian! this guy here's fluffy." which must have sounded like a silly name to most, but finnian didn't care. it was the best name for the fluffiest pokemon. company was always appreciated when it came to long, idyllic walks like these. "we're going on some rad adventures."

"Yes, he is." Sylvester couldn't deny that. His own Eevee was also the most adorable thing he had ever seen. The evolution he ended up with—Sylveon, was also just as astonishingly cute. It was a nice pokemon to start out with for just about anyone, really.
"You don't say. What kind of adventures?" His curiosity peaked, provoking plenty of questions Sylvester would like to ask Finnian. Most of all... "Are you perhaps a pokemon trainer, like myself?" It wouldn't be much of a coincidence, but running into another trainer always proved interesting. Even if Finnian wasn't, however, he still had a pokemon. For the most part, that was all that truly mattered to Sylvester at this point in time.
fluffy was cutest when he was sleeping, or so finnian decided about two seconds ago as he cradled the eevee's sleeping form. he had lovely soft fur like that of a newborn. his ears twitched occasionally, and finnian thought it was the downright cutest thing he had ever seen. he resisted the urge to prod them playfully.
"uhhh, well, all kinds!" he chirped, never having set anything in stone. he'd just really wanted to get away from home now that he was old enough to take care of himself. armed with his camera and fluffy, he was set to conquer the world and meet real famous people. that was the dream thus far. finnian just hadn't thought ahead of himself.
sylvester doled the million dollar question, which left finnian scratching his head himself. "well, i'm not too sure myself. i thought that could be cool, but then i ran into my cousin earlier and she's a ranger! to be honest, they sound pretty cool, so i'm thinking of joining up myself." he grinned, eager to prove his worth as one. he couldn't stay a failure for his whole life! he wouldn't let himself, anyway.

"A ranger, huh?" While Sylvester didn't know a whole lot about them, what he observed of one in the cave network by Petalburg City held some amount of proof that their occupation was...interesting, to say the least. Though one would easily have their work cut out for them—Finnian being no exception.
"Well, it might be a lot of work—but worth it, I'm sure." He spared another gentle smile towards Finnian. "Have you ever battled with your pokemon before?" Trying to learn a bit more about him, Sylvester took the most obvious approach. "Just a curiosity." Awaiting an answer, Sylvester eyed the Eevee—remembering the first battle he had put Marley through. They both had certainly come a long way since that day.
thinking ahead wasn't really finny's thing. he preferred to just sort of jump into matters and figure out what to do when he hit a blockade later. he bobbed his head excitably at the prospects that a ranger promised. everything sounded super exciting, he was getting all pumped up about it.
"i know!" he echoed the sentiments with a big grin plastered on his face. finnian's eyes were gleaming. "battling? oh, nah, me and fluffy haven't gotten anything like that done just yet." he shifted the eevee in his arms, "we're definitely gonna need to battle soon! and i'm definitely gonna get some great shots of fluffy's first battle!" had he had hands available, finnian would have proudly waved his cameras around.

'Pictures?' Sylvester wasn't a very big fan of that, though the memories of his first battle were still very comforting and vivid. For Sylvester and his Eevee's first battle together, though, what they found was a hard loss. Hopefully Finnian's Eevee would have it easier in their first trainer battle.
"Pictures might be a good idea, if you ever plan on evolving them anyway." Sylvester was relatively certain that would be the case. While Eevee was an adorable pokemon, so were it's many evolutions. Many aspiring pokemon researchers loved to study them, and several celebrities wanted a specific one for their own. Sadly, very few appreciated the base evolution stage—Eevee. They were great for a new trainer to get acquainted and comfortable with pokemon. "I evolved my Eevee without even trying to..."
sylvester had gotten him all hyped up about battling now. finnian glanced about, wondering if there were any wandering trainers that were looking for a battle now. he looked down at fluffy sleeping peacefully in his arms, starting to think that it wasn't the best of ideas to battle right now. the poor eevee was all tuckered out. it looked like battling was a no-go today.
"ooh, yeah, evolving!" finnian piped up. he remembered that too. it was hard for him to decide. "i was thinking, maybe a flareon would suit fluffy, since, y'know, he'll be extra fluffy!" it sounded ridiculous to most people, but for finny, it made the most sense. there was a bright, silly grin on his face as he spoke. he was in awe about the idea of sylvester evolving his eevee without trying, though. "woah! how did you do that?"

"Well...it was mostly just ignorance paired with rare candies. I didn't even know what a Charm Bell was to pokemon. I just thought it'd look cute on Marley." Explaining himself made Sylvester feel even more foolish. He'd change the subject matter, at least for a time. "Flareon, huh? Yeah, that would be extra warm. Can't go wrong there."
Somehow, Sylvester had begun to take an interest in fire type pokemon. It was probably because he had captured a fire type and helped another hatch from it's egg. Or perhaps it was just nice to have a pokemon that could produce fire and heat at a moment's notice. Either way, it lead Sylvester to his question. "So Finnian, where are you headed as of now? Oldale town, Petalburg city or...?"
everyone he had met at this point had been super supportive about being a ranger and all, and even more supportive of fluffy evolving into a flareon. he guessed he would have to ask fluffy about it when he woke up. for all he knew, the eevee just might like the idea of staying as an eevee. finnian guessed that would be cool too. he wasn't too fussed about evolution and he just wanted fluffy to be happy.
"we came from oldale!" he explained, "just walked right along ever since we left from littleroot." it made sense that fluffy was tired, even though finnian was still brimming with energy. he felt like he could walk all the way to the city after petalburg. there were no limits to his boundless energy. "petalburg's this way, right?"
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 8, 2015 7:59:25 GMT
"Ahhh. Yeah, its that way." Realizing now where they were headed towards, Sylvester made sure to keep a relatively identical pace to Finnian's own as they continued walking. It probably wouldn't be much longer until they got there, as they began to pass another sharp bend in the trail. Up ahead there was yet another bend, one Sylvester was fairly familiar with—they were getting close to their destination.
"So, how long do you intend on sticking around Petalburg City?" Inquiring about his plans further, Sylvester did not stop there. "Do you plan on challenging the gym leader, or have you not considered that part yet?" Listening intently for his answer, Sylvester remained patient as they contineud striding through the grassy steppes and ever closer to the outskirts of Petalburg City.
alright, he hadn't been too bad with directions! the whole ranger thing was really starting to look up some. finnian's footsteps were brisker and more light treading than sylvester's - the young lad had a spring in his step, or just generally seemed like he was in a hurry and couldn't stay still long enough to pay attention.
"well, i definitely wanna give fluffy a rest. he's all tuckered out," he motioned to the slumbering pokemon in his arms. "but hmm, the gym leader? well, i don't know about that. i don't know if it's really my thing, you know?" pros and cons aside, it wasn't like he was thinking about the league or anything. "but maybe we will! i've always wondered what it'd be like to challenge a gym leader. ooh, you think they're famous? i could take lots of pictures!"
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 9, 2015 6:33:23 GMT
"Oh yeah, they're definitely famous alright. That much is certain." He began to wonder just how much Finnian liked taking pictures. It made him think perhaps being a Coordinator was better suited for his talents, but then again, maybe he'd see lots of cool and rare pokemon as a Ranger? He'd have plenty of great pictures of his ventures to show off to both family and friends.
"You'd probably want to take pictures before or after you battle with them, though. It might cost you if you tried to get a good shot of Fluffy mid-fight." His concern was mild, mostly just advising Finnian to be wary of the gym leaders. It wouldn't be a very good picture if his pokemon was shown getting hurt in it, now would it? "Well...we're just about there now." He said as they cornered yet another bend in the route. Before them, one could see the city breaking over the treeline in the distance. "I've been here a lot, but it always relieves me to see the city not far ahead. Walking everywhere can be such a pain." Though by the looks of it, that was not the case for Finnian—he was full of energy, which suited the career of a Ranger.
famous people made his eyes gleam. with all the famous people around, they would make perfect additions to his collection of albums dedicated to the cool and amazing people he had gotten to meet in his life. he listened to sylvester's tips and nodded enthusiastically. "yeah! i'll keep that in mind," he grinned, flashing a thumbs up from under fluffy.
he glanced up, seeing petalburg coming into view. it wasn't as bustling a city as his home, goldenrod, but it was some semblance of the civilisation he was used to. finnian felt a little comforted to see the roofed buildings and general cityscape he had so missed of home. sure, travelling was fun and the rural areas of hoenn had been eye opening, but he also missed the comfort of bustling cities that he had grown up in.
"i like walking round, though!" finnian chirped, glancing at the sprawling city ahead. "there's always something to see!" eyes ahead, he spotted the classic red roof of the pokemon center and grinned. "there's the center! i'm gonna go ahead, man! ooh, give me your number! when fluffy gets stronger, let's battle, okay?"
