"shit."
she wasn't expecting to have misplaced the small amount of cash that she had accumulated (read: stolen) for the purpose of their journey. the zorua glanced at her inquisitively. zelda reached to scratch the little thing behind the ears as she pursed her lips. "seems like we don't have any cash. i won't be able to get us supplies like this."
it was definitely not the kind of problem that zelda was expecting herself to have to deal with from the get go. she frowned, looking about. "well, we'll just have to find ourselves some poor fool, then." there was a wicked grin on her face as she glanced about for potential targets. the zorua let out a raspy giggle, tailing close behind her. zelda assumed the role of a meek, lost child that had lost her way. she had always been a good actress, so she liked to think.
sat down by the side of a pond was ced with his ponyta next to him. the fire horse lowered his head and drank from the pond, to which ced could only shake his head at. "you know how dirty that is?" he snapped. but the horse just shook his head.
ponyta even spat some water at him. "wow," he whispered. he wiped himself with the sleeve of his uniform. he would splash some water back at the horse but he doesn't want to extinguish the fires... if that would even happen.
ced's backpack was located behind him, out of his sight. soon the ponyta joined him and sat down next to him. he placed his hand on ponyta's mane and sighed. what a boring day.
please don't leave the table, i'm still eating. my plate's half full, but i feel you motion towards the sink. am i boring you? i'm probably boring you.

her target came into view. a young man - around her age, maybe? zelda approached with caution. they were easier to fool but harder to deal with if her cover was blown. she was light as a twig and wasn't very well blessed in terms of strength. what she lacked she made up with quick wit, reflexes, and cunning trickery.
she barely spared the scenery a second glance. she had grown up in hoenn, maybe once even called route 101 home. it was ideal, seeing as there was a small supply of water that made it possible to set up camp here. she slowly sauntered up to the younger male, leaving her zorua to do her thing. "hi there," she greeted, trying to keep cedric's attention away from his bag at all costs. "would you mind if i sat with you?"
meekly, zelda tucked hair behind her ear. her hood hung loosely over her head, shielding her eyes from the harsh sun. she gave cedric a small smile. hook, line, and sinker. all in a day's work.
the last thing he expected was for someone to join him, let alone that someone be a girl. a cute one as well. "hey," he replied. he turned to meet her gaze underneath her hood. interesting eyes.
"sure," he cleared his throat. he moved over a bit to give her some room to sit on the nice soft grass. he kept his eyes forward and on her, which was a huge mistake. but little did he know. neither did his ponyta either. what a pair of rangers they made.
"i like the hood," h e pointed, "the sun's a killer."
what the heck was he saying.
please don't leave the table, i'm still eating. my plate's half full, but i feel you motion towards the sink. am i boring you? i'm probably boring you.
lavender eyes watched the male, a distanced gaze to leave him more intrigued, leave him wanting more. she had to keep his attention on her while her zorua worked her magic. she cast a look towards the pond and let her hands rest on her thigh. "thank you. the sun in hoenn is unbearably hot. this isn't nearly as gaudy as a big straw hat. they make my head look tiny."
she let out a dainty laugh, although for all cedric knew, she might have been laughing at what he was saying instead of the weak attempt of a joke she had made. he sure was the brainless kind of guy. they were the perfect targets.
meanwhile, her zorua quickly located the man's bag, digging her claws in and trying to open it. she pushed her snout through the ranger's bag and sniffed around for the smell of money.
his eyes followed her movements; first her thigh then the pond. it was a mere pond, small and meaningless. the female was doing a great job at keeping him distracted. he suspected nothing.
"please. you'd do the straw hat justice," he replied. for the moody rebel he was he actually enjoyed other people's company. specifically girls. but other people were cool too. well, some people.
it was clear that ranger training taught him nothing. his ears didn't even pick up the sound of zorua going through his bag. neither did ponyta, who was also watching the still pond.
"visiting hoenn?"

well, at least he was a gentleman. but the nice guys were never really worth it. zelda laughed in bemusement. "really? you should see me in one. goes right past my eyes. i look silly," she jested, playfully punching him in the arm. she hadn't meant any ill will with it, and her punches were weak anyway. she settled back, letting her hands glide through the blades of grass, soaking up the sunshine that she so loved.
she nodded in response to his question. "oh, yes. i always wondered if it was as lovely as people described it to be. it hasn't disappointed so far." two lies. she had always lived in hoenn, and route 101 had been disappointing. she knew the region like the back of her palm, knew the best places to set up camp as her family lived off the land, but it was scenery destroyed by humans that she couldn't appreciate. she gave him a sweet little smile.
her zorua picked up the scent of cash. she grinned and nosed her way in further, ripping the bag and cradling the wallet in her paws. she nabbed it with her mouth and fled, like she had never been there to begin with.
he took what she said as a request. he should see her in one! oldale probably has a shop that sells some. yes, they should go there together. "i doubt that," he replied, laughing as she punched his arm. playful. a bit weird too.
"really? it's pretty shit here," he said. he chuckled and got up, and his ponyta soon followed him. he stretched his arms upwards and smiled, offering her a hand. "i'll show you something cooler," he offered.
he then turned around to grab his bag off the ground. he didn't even notice his missing wallet. too focused on the girl. he wasn't going to let her get away. he turned back and smiled.

cedric was being a real nice guy. normal people might have felt bad for their thievery, but zelda felt no sin in her actions. she had to do what she had to do to survive. she couldn't simply spare the nice guys because they were nice. the world was a cruel thing, and many would come to understand that. "certainly, there are some redeeming qualities to this place..."
she looked at him inquisitively when he stood up, taking up the offered hand. her dainty little hands had been battered by the elements, but they were small hands nonetheless. "oh?" she piqued, pretending to be interested. "what do you have to show this wandering tourist?"
her eyes momentarily flitted towards the boy's bag. her zorua was nowhere in sight, which probably meant she had found what she had been tasked to find. what a good girl. zelda would have to buy her extra treats for the job well done.
no, she had to be messing with him. there was no way, foreigner or not, that someone would find route 101 interesting. he laughed and shrugged. "if you say so," he said. man, foreigners were weird.
he actually didn't know where he was going to take her. he'll wing it, he thought. but first he needed to get rid of his ponyta. so he fiddled with the contents of his bag before pulling out a pokeball. he pointed it at the fire horse and recalled him back in.
"i lied. i don't have anywhere to show you now."
he gave her a small smile before reaching into his pocket to pull out a phone. he unlocked it and opened up the phone app.
"but i could show you around oldale later if you'd like."

all was going well. cedric was returning his ponyta, which meant she could any of that pokemon battling nonsense. she'd lose in a heartbeat, zelda knew that much. she wasn't quite cut out for battling. never quite understood how it could work. she dusted her clothes, fixing her hood tightly over her head and drawing it over her mouth to keep an air of mystery. her robes flowed like a cascading waterfall. every movement was calculated carefully to keep her act going.
he had nothing to show her. huh. zelda wouldn't admit that she hadn't seen that coming. it wasn't like she had been expecting him to show her anything interesting or something she didn't already know about the region. she sighed, pretending to look disappointed. instead, he presented her with a phone, and danger alarms went off ringing in her head.
it was never wise to leave a number with a stranger. she didn't need to be tracked. zelda cradled the phone in her palms and laughed. "oh, well, good sir. you're in bad luck. my phone took a dive when i took the ship here. it's swimming with the fishes in the deep blue now." she didn't looked too upset about that. maybe it was the wondrous workings of fate. "you could leave your number with me. i'll be sure to call you when i find a phone i can contact you from."
well, she'd just have to get her hands on a phone next.
what a clumsy person, he thought. who loses their phone while on a ship? what, did she toss it overboard? he laughed at the thought but quickly shook his head. whatever, her suggestion works as well.
"sure," he said. he swung his bag back around and fiddled through it once more. after a few seconds he finally pulled out a pen. too bad he didn't have a piece of paper. he just laughed nervously and took hold of her free hand.
"here," he said. he quickly scribbled down a few digits on the palm of her hand. once finished he took back his phone and smiled at her.
"call me soon, yeah?"

what a terrible lie. her phone sat idle in her pocket, begging to be used, but zelda had little to no contacts on it for obvious reason. it was probably for the rest that she made her call with a public phone to avoid arousing any suspicion. it was harder to explain if her phone number kept changing as well. ah, the life was certainly a difficult one to lead.
she let him take her hand, partly amused. not even a napkin. she certainly wouldn't forget him. she didn't even have the chance to. she looked at the messy scrawl on her palm and reminded herself to scrub it off her as soon as possible. the only markings she permitted on her skin were directly related to her faith. she handed him back his phone, eyeing it for a while. it looked like a nice phone. if only she could just swipe it...
zelda went against the thought. instead, she walked closer to cedric and rested a palm on his cheek. "ah, but my good sir, you haven't even given me a name to call you by." she gave him a mesmerizing gaze, lavender eyes piercing deep into his own.
he was glad she didn't mind him writing on her palm. or if she did then she did a good job hiding it. he was in the process of keeping his phone and pen when she walked over to him and placed her palm on his cheek, causing him to flinch slightly.
"uhhhh," he trailed. his eyes met hers underneath that hood and he was at a lost for words. this normally doesn't happen.
instead of trying to come up with words he reached up to grab her hand, removing it from his face. he held onto it as he smiled and introduced himself.
"cedric. and you?"

affection was something that zelda wasn't exactly prudent on. she gave it out like free hugs, as and when people wanted them. she gave him a sweet smile, keeping him off guard, before deeming it too difficult to try and swipe anything from his body. too obvious. zelda let him take the hand, finding it all very amusing as she let her hood flutter in the passing breeze.
cedric was a suitable name for a very silly person. oh, maybe one day he would know. she tilted her head slightly. "elsa," she murmured, the name having danced into her mind at that moment. she looked like she could pull off an elsa. it was out there, mystical enough. it would have to do. there was no going back on it, although now she had to remember it in case they did cross paths in the end. how troublesome.
"it's a lovely name," she said, again unclear if she was referring to his or her own. "i'll call you, cedric." she gave him one last lingering gaze before she turned and let her robes trail after her as she padded away from the momentary detour. she was reaching the clearing leading to oldale when her zorua popped out from the bushes, thumping her tail happily with the prize in her mouth.
"good girl," zelda cooed, filleting through his wallet and seeing what could be of use. she pocketed the money first. maybe the cards could be put into use elsewhere.
