glameow curled around his trembling sibling, her body thankfully warm and her breathing calm. she disliked being alone. ever since their abandonment, she had been rather sad. her behavior reflected their short history with their owner. they were a batch of unwanted kittens, and had been plucked from their mothers side and tossed out in the wilds with little regard for their safety.
"glmm..." he rumbled, gritting his teeth as his face reflected frustration.
they were hungry. ill-equip to handle anything the wilds had to offer. but he was the elder among the two. a male. a brother. it was his duty to provide for her and to protect her. they only had each other now.
meowth shifted against the curled body of her sibling. they had settled upon the soft grasses of the route. it was pleasantly warm, but such good weather did little to ease her. meowth could barely adjust to the wilds, having stubbornly rejected her baser instincts. inhaling deeply, she took in her sibling's familiar scent. releasing a soft mewl, her eyes fell shut as he proceeded to groom her.
"meow," she responded, lamely.
she looked a sight. her figure had grown scrawny, and she felt the weakness gnaw away at her body as the days passed. burying her face into the warmth of glameow's pelt, she squeezed her eyes shut - willing sleep to embrace her.
Bunny was heading back to Littleroot from a long day of battling, yawning and stretching with her Dratini on her shoulders. Diana was starting to make her trainer ache, but Bunny didn't mind. She loved that her pokémon was so affectionate with her already, and she wouldn't have asked for anything else. [break][break]
Rubbing her eyes, Bunny didn't see the small pokémon kitten on the side of the path, nor did she hear them. But Diana noticed them right away, her body stiffening as she searched for the source. This caught Bunny's attention, and she looked to her pokémon in confusion. "What is it, Diana? Is everything okay?" [break][break]
Worry began to seep into Bunny's tired bones as Diana's web-like ears twitched and her head looked around somewhat wildly. And then she stopped, looking at a particular bush of grass. Bunny curiously followed her gaze, and then gasped at what she saw. [break][break]
There was a Glameow and a Meowth, both sitting together in a tight ball. The air was growing cooler as the sun began to set, and Bunny found herself trotting up to the two in worry, hoping desperately that she wouldn't scare them off. [break][break]
Kneeling down a good few feet away to give the two cat-like pokémon space, Bunny said in a quietly concerned voice, "Are you two alright? Do you need help, or a blanket? Maybe some food? I have poképuffs and berries, if you want." Diana nodded in a friendly manner, quietly muttering a "tini" in response in hopes to help the two kittens understand.

Kristmar and his young ralts were on their way home after a long day of... nothing, really. Nothing except loitering around while they took a day away from the festival, watching trainers battle and other coordinators flaunt their pokémon's best moves. It'd been a productive day in terms of getting nothing done and, somehow, it'd left the blonde feeling more drained than usual. The idea of his bed at the guesthouse - cozy and warm with fresh sheets - sounded absolutely heavenly before meeting back up with Niklaus tomorrow. [break][break] Lost in his thoughts about his bed, Kristmar was brought back to terrafirma by Adelaide gently pulling on his sleeve. [break][break] Kristmar... Kristmar... She called out to him until she made her trainer look down at her. There was something in the air that bothered her, her sixth senses were picking up on... such miserable feelings. Loneliness, desperation, worry and a bittersweet sensation of comfort despite it all. It made the impressionable ralts' heart ache. There's something going on over there. By that female. We... should check it out. [break][break] He raised a questioning eyebrow at Adelaide and her perceivable shift in mood. Just before she'd been telling her trainer all about a small gothita she'd met at the beach and now she'd suddenly quietened down with a morose air. He jostled her gently in his arms and looked over at where she was gesturing, towards a familiar young girl. [break][break] Bunny? What was she doing there on her knees? It was going to get dark soon; had she maybe lost something? Hurt herself? Kristmar changed direction and began to head over to her. [break][break] "Hey, is everything al--" Kris trailed off quietly... seeing what the peppy brunette was murmuring to. A few feet away from her was the most pitiful sight he'd seen in a while; two struggling felines, nestled together, looking weathered and jaded. He glanced down at ralts with a little urgency and she nodded. [break][break] I sensed them, she simply answered and let her trainer set her down on the floor as he, too, crouched down. They don't seem like wild pokémon; look at the state they're in, Kristmar. He could definitely see the state they were in. Underfed, tired, cold. Kris swallowed quietly and ducked his head down a little. "Poor mites," he muttered, more to himself, before turning to Bunny. "Have you just found them?" [break][break]
sleep began to creep into his mind, causing him to caught unawares by the human female whom approached. eyes widening considerably, his cerulean gaze reflected his anxious state of mind as he noted the woman's presence. a shiver coursed throughout his form as panic began to set in.
"ggg..." he growled, lowly.
he moved to press closer to his sister, intending to protect her from any harm. a low hiss escaped him as he attempted to keep the human away somehow. glameow refused to listen at first, the memory of abandonment and callous treatment leaving him wary.
meowth eyed the female and the male curiously, but remained tucked away at her sibling's side. humans! there were humans here! did they intend to take them away from this terrible forest? the idea of shelter and warmth and food filled her mind to the brim. but her brother remained cold, greeting them with bared teeth. he had pressed a paw against her middle as he sat up, his gaze narrowed.
"meow?" she questioned, tail twitching in confusion.
her eyes widened, hoping that her brother would not scare them away. but he was stubborn, and would likely cling onto his pride. meowth surveyed the pair, noting they appeared more sympathetic than anything else.
Bunny saw a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye. Kristmar. She also saw a little green something with him, and she could only assume that it was his cute little Ralts. Bunny waved the two over and motioned them to be quiet with a finger on her lips and a gentle "shh." [break][break]
"Diana noticed them before I did, but yeah, we just found them," she whispered to Kristmar, motioning for him to stop and crouch down beside her. "We don't want them to feel like we're aggressive. The closer we are to eye level and the farther away we are, the less of a predator we seem." [break][break]
She was sure to keep her voice low and her eyes innocent but concerned. Bunny winced a little when the Glameow hissed in their direction, but she slowly raised her hands up in an attempt to show she wasn't a threat. Beside her, Diana lowered her head slightly, murmuring quiet utterances of her name to the two pokémon. Bunny had no idea what she was attempting to communicate, but she assumed it was something about them being worried and non-threatening. [break][break]
And then, very slowly, Bunny reached into he bag, pulled out a box and set it on her lap. After clicking a couple of tabs, she opened the box to reveal a wide arrange of poképuffs. Bunny silently plucked two out before setting the box beside her, then crawling forward a bit and placing them a couple of feet from the pokémon and then retreating back to her original position. [break][break]
"This way they can approach the food without coming too close to us," she mumbled to Kristmar. And then, to the two pokémon, "It's okay, we won't hurt you. We just want to help." Bunny glanced to Kristmar and his Ralts, giving them a nod that was more for herself than anyone. She remembered idly from their previous battle in Petalburg that he and Adelaide had an uncanny ability to communicate telepathically. Perhaps the Ralts could break through a little more to the kittens more than Bunny and Diana? [break][break]
Bunny looked back to the Glameow and Meowth, eager to see how they would react to the food.

It appeared as though Bunny knew what she was doing so Kristmar didn't think to interfere while she set down a couple of poképuffs for the pokémon. Not even sure they'd dare to eat with them around, seeing that the rattled glameow one was beginning to bristle, Kris moved back even further. The meowth, on the other hand, seemed much more pacific but, then again, that might just be because the poor thing appeared to be in worse state. He, too, raised his hands a little, just enough to show his empty palms, and he ducked his head down a little further. Scaring them off wouldn't be beneficial to the two kittens. [break][break] "That's right," he said, adopting an even softer tone, "we're not going to hurt you." [break][break] Kristmar turned his head very slightly, enough to eye his ralts out of the corner of his crimson eye. He gave her a very tiny nod, encouraging her to communicate with them. Humans, after all, were an entirely different species to pokémon and weren't always trusted or even seen in a good light. Maybe another pokémon would have better luck at settling the troubled pair. [break][break] Adelaide clasped her hands together and tried to convey a sensation of ease. They really had nothing to worry about. She'd only met Bunny briefly but - as a ralts who was tuned into a person's positivity and bright demeanours - she knew that there was nothing to be wary of when it concerned the kind-hearted brunette. She had Adelaide's approval. [break][break] They're right, you know? She whispered, her voice as gentle as always, and she widened her telepathic channel so it emcompassed both of the humans and the pokémon rather than just Kris, serving as both a translator and a connection. You don't need to be so alarmed... what even happened to the both of you?
glameow squinted his eyes, wary of even the offered food. but, after a moment, he moved to retrieve both puffs before quickly returning to his sibling's side. as they sniffed and began to nibble at the delectable treat, he felt a tickle within his mind. his gaze rose, bewilderment obvious before eventually realized what the ralts had intended to do.
i doubt that's any of your concern. take your humans and leave us be.
biting into the sweet treat, he bared his teeth once more to reflect his irritable state.
meowth cast her sibling a look of disapproval at his rudeness. unwilling to let this opportunity slip from their paws, she released a low hiss in his direction.
stop being so stubborn, brother. they want to help. see, the human even gave us food. and its not poisoned.
she averted her attention to the ralts, licking her lips and considering her words before she tentatively taking advantage of the connection.
we were abandoned. our master didn't want us. so he left us out here. mother and father were powerful pokemon. they had us without his blessing, you see. we were deemed illegitimate as a result.

She gasped as an alien voice parted the waves of her mind. It was an odd sensation, something Bunny found herself lost in for a few moments as the soft voice encompassed her. It sounded so real that it could be right beside her ear, but it had an ethereal sort of feeling that it had to be Adelaide's telepathy. [break][break]
Once Bunny returned to planet Earth, she focused on the two cats. The Glameow had taken the food back to the Meowth, and they were both nibbling on it. She listened intently to Adelaide's translations, nodding to herself in understanding to what the Glameow had said. Obviously the two had been through it rough, by what Bunny could see they were practically just skin and bones. Poor things didn't know what to trust. [break][break]
But when she heard the words of the Meowth through Adelaide's mind-speech, Bunny's heart swelled with sympathy. "You were abandoned," she mumbled quietly, expression softening. Diana at her side murmured something quiet beside her, sounding upset and concerned. [break][break]
"We can help you," Bunny found herself saying, looking between both the Glameow and the Meowth. "We could feed you and help you grow stronger, and give you the love and affection you deserve. You're both lovely pokémon, and definitely strong seeing as how you've handled yourselves this well. [break][break]
"Or, if you'd rather," she continued, "we can take you to somewhere else where you could stay, like a pokémon daycare or something, see if they would adopt you so you could be regularly fed. We just want to help." She nearly began to beg. Bunny would prefer for the two pokémon to join her and Kristmar permanently, as she knew that the two of them were relatively good friends and definitely suited to take care of the two scrawny pokémon, but she wasn't going to force them into something they didn't want to do. She mainly hoped that the Glameow would lighten up and let them help in some way, since the Meowth seemed more than willing to trust them. But in the end, she guessed she couldn't blame him.

Ah... so they'd been abandoned. Kristmar had had a feeling that that would be the case, although it didn't ease him at all. He just released a soft exhale and lowered his eyes as the glameow bristled once again. It wasn't the first time he'd encountered abandoned pokémon and it wouldn't be the last. Most pokémon left to fend for themselves usually adapted over time, as they'd had the strength to do so, but recent hatchlings were still so weak and vulnerable; they rarely were able to make it out here on their own. He'd seen his fair share of abandonment while he'd been in Magma's ranks - haughty grunts throwing out weak pokémon that didn't serve their purpose - and there'd been very few times that he'd intervened in any way when he'd witnessed it, but he kept that to himself. This would maybe be a chance to atone slightly for back then. [break][break] Seeing Bunny get so emotional over this tugged a little more on his heartstrings and he had to rein in the urge to pat her knee. Instead, he just let her talk and try to convince the glameow since it appeared as though the meowth was much more willing to be helped. It wasn't like the glameow's behaviour was unexpected though or illogical. Trusting humans after being mistreated by one wasn't something any pokémon - or even a human, for that matter - would be able to do easily. [break][break] He doubted it was something that could be fixed with a few nice words and a few nice treats either. But, still, something had to be done. Kristmar gritted his teeth a little and decided to push it a little. [break][break] "We're making it our concern though," he told the glameow, after Bunny had finished. "How long do you even think you're going to be able to take care of your sister out here?" [break][break] He raised his hand a little to gesture to the glameow's lackluster appearance - his dull fur, malnourished frame, tired eyes and unfiled nails - and gave him a stern look, retaining as much as he could of his gentleness. The glameow was in bad state, but the meowth was even worse; surely the male cat had to be aware of this? [break][break] "You've been lucky to have even gotten this far and well done for that; you've done a good job." Kris glanced in his friend's direction, searching to see if she thought his approach was an unnecessary one. "It's tough out here in the wilderness, it really is and you both likely know that by now, but how much longer do you think you'll last? That your sister'll last?" [break][break] Kristmar could feel his cheeks warm up a little, but not from indignation at the pokémon's state or anything of the sort, but from a slight embarrassment. B-Bunny was here, y'know? It felt... awkward getting a little heartfelt in front of, y-y'know, a girl. It felt corny. The blonde cleared his throat a tiny bit and tore his sanguine eyes from the girl and set his firm stare back on the glameow. [break][break] "Your sister wants to be helped so... d-don't be selfish and let us help her, help you both." He pointed at the miserable-looking meowth. "Maybe until you're both in better shape, at least."
glameow snapped, standing to his full height as he addressed pair. his lips were curled, canines flashing menacingly as he allow his hunger and frustration to fan the flames of rage.
you're just a human! you'll probably stuff us into a capsule and leave us in one of your machines. that's what happens to all unwanted pokemon, isn't that right?
his sister moved, in the process of accepting the girl's offer. eyes visibly narrowing at her defiance, the glameow harshly cuffed the meowth's earth with a paw.
don't! i'm trying to protect you, and you're just taking their bait!
shoving him aside, meowth hurriedly approached the human woman, desperate to take leave of this terrible place. she felt a pang of hurt, but this was her life. and it was her decision. the she-cat refused to starve in the wilderness - becoming naught more than a forgotten corpse pecked at by wandering murkrow.
i'll go. i don't care where you take me. i really don't. just take me with you. please.

She admired Kristmar's words, probably more than he realized. Bunny wasn't getting through to the Glameow, and Kris seemed to have a way with words that would probably tempt him better than Bunny trying to baby him into submission. She gave Kristmar a gentle smile of encouragement and a nod to show how much she respected what he had said. [break][break]
Bunny visibly winced at the harsh words of the Glameow translated by Adelaide. Although the Ralt's calm voice softened the blow, it still made her feel bad. She just wished she could help the poor thing. [break][break]
But she was surprised when the Meowth bounded away from her brother and into her arms. Bunny gasped quietly, and then very gently squeezed the pokémon in her hands. Bunny's fingers rolled over the Meowth's skin and she nearly began to choke back tears at the feeling of the ribs and vertebrae poking out of the Meowth's skin. "I'll keep you safe, don't worry," she said with a voice full of emotion, whispering so she didn't sound so obviously upset to Kristmar or the pokémon. [break][break]
Bunny began to brace herself, supposing that the Glameow would probably run to attack her or something along the lines of it. She didn't really care, to be honest — despite the protective stance Diana was taking in front of her trainer, Bunny almost preferred that the Glameow would let his anger out on Bunny so as to feel better and see that she was determined to take care of the tiny pokémon that deserved so much love and protection. [break][break]
"We really just want to help," she mumbled quietly in the Glameow's direction. "We understand if you don't want it, and that you're afraid and protective of your sister, but you're incapable of keeping yourselves alive and we know that we can help until you can at least take care of yourself." She idly scratched the base of the Meowth's ear to try and calm it.

Alright, that was one of them. Now all that was left was trying to talk over the more skeptical and stubborn glameow. Kristmar wasn't too sure how to proceed with this one; words were only able to do so much and it didn't help if the glameow didn't even appear to be listening with logic. The cat seemed convinced that humans were all cut from the same fabric and his old trainer and unwilling to consider the possibility that they weren't. Kristmar gave an exasperated sigh and watched as Bunny tried to soothingly scratch the meowth. [break][break] It wasn't like everything the glameow was saying was without reason though. Many trainers boxed pokémon they weren't interested in using, it was no secret. [break][break] "Are you even listening to anything we're saying?" Kristmar asked the defiant normal type in a mildly unimpressed tone. "We just said that we'll only take care of you both until you're in better shape to defend yourselves, if that's what you want." [break][break] He let his gaze wander back to the other cat, the one that was now in Bunny's arms. Up close, she really was in no state to be outside. Thin and malnourished, her fur lacking a healthy natural sheen and visibly exhausted; it made Kris even a little irked that the glameow had been insisting that he'd continue protecting her. If anything all he'd do, at best, was drag out the inevitable. [break][break] "Your sister's made her choice, now it's up to you." Kris shifted on his knees, pulling himself up a little higher and straighter. "Are you going to come with us and your sister and have a warm place to sleep tonight? Or do you want to stay out here alone and eventually be an easy meal for a passing poochyena?" Of course, Kris... wouldn't exactly let that happen. He was giving the kitten a last choice before he considered for serious grabbing the pathetic and wary thing by the scruff of his neck and stopped his stubbornly selfish or prideful nonsense. Or both. He'd be able to live with a couple of scratches if it meant being able to sleep tonight knowing that the glameow, like the meowth, was somewhere safe and with a full stomach.
glameow slowly wilted underneath the trio's arguments. his sister had turned away, eager to listen to reason. she peered at him even now, silently begging for the elder feline with her eyes to simply go along with them. glameow's gaze darted about, mouth agape as he struggled to respond. he grappled for some argument that would effectively render the humans mute - but found none. none at all. releasing a low snarl, he eventually sat, his figure slightly hunched.
fine.
his harsh gaze eventually turned toward the blonde boy. he refused to speak from that point onward.
oh, brother. we'll be fine now! maybe we can even see each other again.
it pained her to see him this way. but, she was immensely satisfied that she would not have to worry for his safety. purring softly, she nuzzled into the female's arms, enjoying her warmth and scent. yes, this would do. the idea of a proper meal left her eager to get started on the usual process of capture.
To a certain extent, Bunny was surprised. She peered at the Glameow with furrowed brows. She had expected it to fight, to be even more aggressive, but it seemed to have given up. In a way, that just made it more pitiful. Bunny watched with heavy eyes as Kristmar interacted with his newfound, possibly temporary, pokémon, and then looked down to the Meowth in her arms. [break][break]
"I'll call you Primrose," she whispered to the cat pokémon quietly. It looked like it was nearly about to snooze away in her arms. "I'll take you to the nearest pokémon center, they'll help me heal you, and I can feed you all the pokéfood you want! You can meet the rest of my team, too. We'll help you grow stronger and happier and healthier, just watch." [break][break]
She pulled out a pokéball from her bag, holding it up to the Meowth's blinking eyes. [break][break]
Post by kristmar mortensen on Jul 4, 2015 15:23:33 GMT
as the hungry sails unfurl, we have drifted from the shore
The glameow's displeasure couldn't be clearer. They'd backed him up into a corner with only one viable choice out which he'd taken begrudgingly. Kristmar didn't care if the cat didn't show a glimmer of gratitude for the time being; hopefully he'd soften up a little once he realized that their intentions were only honest and pure. Especially Bunny's.
Kris turned his head a little, his shoulders gently sagging in relief at the pokémon's response, and glanced over at the young brunette who was already practically fawning over the neglected meowth. An amused breath escaped through his nose as he watched her quietly and the corners of his lips upturned very slightly. It felt almost voyeuristic to watch someone be so openly sweet these days, having gotten far too accustomed to the brash and veiled manner people had treated one another back in Magma. The long-haired male hastily dropped his eyes before his staring perdured for too long and tucked a stray lock of champagne hair behind his ear. He should... capture the glameow too, it'd make transport quicker.
Clearing his throat quietly, Kris busied himself with looking for a pokéball in his satchel and ignored his ralts' curious poking at the warm sensation she felt coming from her trainer. She shuffled forward and tapped his knee, tilting her head.
"Not now, Addy. We've got things to do." He told her with an awkward and lopsided smile and brushed her small hand away from his lap. Obediently, she shuffled back a little and went back to silently spectating, watching Kristmar produce an empty ball for the glameow. "This is just until we get you in a better state. Then you can choose what you want to do." And, unlike Bunny, he wasn't going to go as far as naming him. Kris tapped the button on the metallic capsule and aimed for the churlish cat, hoping he'd not put up a fight, at least.
