moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Despite the fact that it seemed like his usual area, in his heart of hearts Julius knew he would never cherish the city as much as he liked the country side. Sure the rhythm of life was resounding in every light and every shop, but it would never feel like home. And yet sentiments weren't allowed to surface that often when it came to Julius and so instead of sneering his way through the city rats and their dust and pollution, he found himself blending in and enjoying the shade offered by a skyscraper he leaned against.
His cigarette had finished and the ash could be found beside his foot as his eyes closed behind the rim of his newly bought glasses. Thoughts chased him wherever he went: city or village, seaside or volcano. When he opened his eyes again he sighed, casting one last glance to the alley before merging himself into the city crowd.
Human traffic was always annoying in the simplest and most infuriating of ways, and Julius found himself bumping into people regardless of how he stepped- the space was practically hard to breathe in and yet he couldn't help a flicker a recognition from crosses his emerald eyes as he caught sight of an all to familiar mop of blonde hair.
Rory was a little farther down, but no doubt the river of people would eventually carry him there. Or even worse the blond would wade through the waters himself. Julius already felt the scream of confrontation fill him. Every masculine instinct in his body telling him to get him back for the loss the other day.
His eyes didn't waver from meeting the blonde's.
There was only one regret in his mind: there were simply too many witnesses.
rustboro was a nice change of scenery for once. since he started over again with the help of the professor every city he's been to has been quite boring. littleroot, oldale, petalburg; all boring and small. rustboro was a little bigger at least. there were tall skyscrapers but there were also a few older buildings. rory has an apartment in one of the higher buildings. he doesn't see the appeal in renting an old building.
he walked the streets of rustboro with hands in his pockets. the air wasn't as fresh as the smaller towns, but it still wasn't as bad as lilycove. he relished in it as he shouldered his way through a crowd. again, not as many people as in lilycove. but still enough to be an annoyance.
his eyes scanned the crowd in front of him. then his eyes caught a glimpse of a familiar face. their eyes locked into a glare. rory stopped walking but only for a brief moment. he knew the other saw him too. so he kept his cool and continued walking until they crossed paths.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
The crowd led him there as he knew it would, the steady flow of people slowly leading him towards Rory. The blond seemed content to walk and Julius was in no hurry, either. The raven haired male met the blonde's eyes evenly. There were a lot of things that made Julius hate him with a burning passion: his undeniable affiliation to magma or aqua, the fact that he was possibly using Andrea and of course the fact that the smug bastard was more than three inches taller than him.
His fingers adjusted the glasses as his mouth burst into a smirk- he was never good at hiding his own smugness, even though he probably should just run the fuck out of there while that was still an option. But it wasn't an option, was it? No, that had not been an option the second Julius knew who he was.
"Liam," he said, and then paused. "Or should I say Rory?" An ironic smile was plastered over his face as his arms crossed over his chest- a classic show of defiance. Idly he wondered which bone the blonde would pick at first- did he come to gloat about Andrea or bitch about Cass? Or maybe there was something else entirely, maybe he realized Julius knew a little too much. But they were at the intersection of a busy street- not much could go wrong. Not here, at least.
the only thing stopping him from bashing julius' face in right now was the crowd. too many witnesses. someone might intervene and try to help him as well. he couldn't beat him up here. maybe in an alley somewhere or a bar. yes, he'll try to get him to somewhere more isolated.
he raised an eyebrow when he heard his real name. when did juls find out? and how? he let these questions sit at the back of his mind for now.
rory pointed up to his own face, specifically the bridge of his nose. "new glasses?" he asked. julius wasn't the only one who knew how to be smug. rory had a smug look on his face right now. because he knows he can beat the shit out of him with ease.
rory wanted to provoke him. if he could provoke him enough to make him want a fight then they could leave and go brawl somewhere.
"talk to andrea recently?" he smirked, "last i saw her she could barely walk."

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
He was undoubtedly screwed the second he decided to mess with Rory, or rather he second he blew up Cassandra's bike, but the odds had really been stacked against him long before that. He'd been born unlucky and he was used to it. But whatever. He'd die early and that was ok- as long as he could change the world. Again, impossible. But worth fighting for.
The surprise that crossed Rory's face made Julius think- but he was better at concealing his facial expressions than the blonde. His surprise meant that Rory was indeed his real name. But that would not be enough. He'd need to pry further, a last name or some hint of affiliation. He needed to think- that was the only advantage he had. Rory was an idiot and Julius would believe that even if it ended up a failed placebo.
The comment about his glasses was shrugged off with ease. It was the Andrea one that dug into his skin- but again, none of that showed. He'd known something like that was coming anyway. His smile didn't fade. "Ah, no, not really. You see I'm not like you-- I don't fuck girls half my age to feel better about myself."
He paused, let the words sink in in case the blonde was dumb enough not to get it. "Cassandra on the other hand..." What did Rory know? Truths with lies: enough of a good mix and it would work better than alcohol.
he let the comment fly over his head. he took no note of it. any insults or comments about him were no problem to deal with. but if someone went after someone he loved, well, then they'd have a problem on their hands. and julius just made one.
the fucker even had the audacity to call her by her full name. even rory doesn't do that. his blood boiled. then he remembered that this guy was the reason why they fought in the first place. they were fine now but that fight was intense. it made him feel weak. it made him feel sad.
so a split second after julius finished his sentence rory reached to grab the collar of his shirt, attempting to shove him over to a wall. he doesn't care if there was a crowd. he just wanted to beat the fucker up.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Watching the smug look vanish from Rory's pretty little rich face was all the revenge Julius needed. The more enrage he became, the wider Julius's smirk grew. By the time Rory had his shirt gripped, he was chuckling. But then as soon as Rory rammed his back against a nearby pole, he remembered what he had set out to do. His face became a thin line of disdain and solemness, emerald eyes glaring into Rory from behind his hipster glasses.
The goal was something along the lines of getting them broken again, but it was all about equal exchange. Julius was not okay with being a coward. The notion itself disgusted him, but it was necessary. And besides, true cowardice was lying on your back in the face of fear. Julius was about to spit on a guy that could demolish him. And he'd do so with glee.
He ignored the blatant warning- he ignored the images of his kiss with Cass coming to mind, ignored the kind of warm and familiar feeling he had with her. Instead, he said: "I wonder what she's doing with someone like you? You obviously don't deserve her. What, is it the money? You an Ashton or something?"
It was a random rich kid name he picked up at ranger academy. Working on finding 'Rory' over a namepool of a million Rorys gave him enough migraines to last a week. This would, hopefully, narrow down the search.
Meanwhile, whispers had rung through the streets, and people were staring as Julius was being slammed into the wall by an obviously larger male.
Things would work out nicely. Better than last time, he hoped.
julius even laughs when rory gripped his shirt. it was clear at this point that the hipster was playing a game with him. whatever, he doesn't care. he'll play the game juls wants him to. he can handle it.
what he said made his blood boil even more. it wasn't because of the fact juls knew nothing, no. it was because the hipster had a point. rory doesn't deserve her. not after everything he's done.
the crowd started to stare and whisper. rory's been in jail before, no big deal. he'll take this fucker down if the only consequence was jail time.
"leave her alone."
the grip on his shirt tightened as he attempted to pull him up. but really it was to keep him in place. rory smirked, letting his other fist fly loose, aiming right for juls' nose and glasses.

moment of truth and the moment to lie the moment to live & the moment to die
Rory might think he can handle it, but Julius has a lot more up his sleeve than a fist fight. Julius is not an idiot, if his glasses mean anything. Julius immediately realizes he's struck a nerve, and the little rush that goes through him is soaring with glee. It's always been like this, Julius has always picked fight with these types- tall rich idiots.
"Say please," Julius instructs, madly fighting off the urge to burst into laughter.
Julius sees the punch coming. Compared to the last one, this seems slower. Predictable. He's looking right at Rory's eyes a second before it hits: green on green. He moves his face ever so slightly to the side. Rory's knuckles connect with soft cheeks, and Julius's glasses go flying off his face. The impact forces him out of Rory's grip, the fabric of his shirt tearing just a little bit. He cursed loudly. But then again...
Nothing lost nothing gained.
Julius is surprisingly quick on his feet, like he expected it to happen this way. He lunges for his glasses, making sure they're okay before tucking them wordlessly into his pockets. A crowd has already gathered, and there's so much noise Julius can hardly hear himself think over the car horns, the people shouting, his own heart thudding.
He looks back at Rory. There are police officers surrounding him. Julius gives him one last broad smile, his cheek flushed and throbbing and his palms scrapped from the landing, but the rest of him unharmed.
Julius bolted out of there and ducked into a corner, quickly pulling out his camera. Hours ago he had been sightseeing in the big bad city of Rustboro, and he was happy for it. He took two quick shots of Rory, and slipped into the shadows.

rustboro may be a city, but it's not actually that big. there's a main shopping district in the middle, and not much else. the gym's located not too far off and there's a couple skyscrapers off to the side, one of them labeled silph co.
it's relatively peaceful here. so when cass sees a gathering crowd on one of the streets her curiosity's peaked. she edged into the mob, wriggling her way towards the middle. there's cops everywhere, people are yelling and pointing at the alleyway.
"rory!" he's right in the middle of everything. the cops are trying to get a hold of the crowd -- and they're targeting him. cass isn't very surprised that he managed to get into this situation, but she doesn't want to get him arrested. rory mclain
the punch connected. this time however it didn't break his glasses, it only sent them flying off. it also sent juls flying as he scrambled away from rory. a crowd gathered around them and by the time rory tried to chase julius down the cops had surrounded him. fuck.
"oookay." he slid his hands into his pockets as he watched the police surround him. hands into the air, they said. rory hid the smirk on his face pretty well. his eyes scanned around looking for an opportunity to bolt. and when a familiar voice yelled out that's when he ran.
the police were caught off guard. they chased after him. but rory was fast. he ducked around the corner and ran straight to his apartment. he lost them, luckily.

rory's being surrounded by the police. it doesn't look like he has an easy way out, so when cass yells his name it distracts some of the officers enough to let him get away. she grins. it reminds her a little about their own adventures when they were younger. cass quickly ducks into the crowd as the police start rounding up witnesses and interviewing them. she doesn't want to be questioned by anyone.
her phone buzzes in her pocket and she takes it out. it's a text from rory. i'm on my way. she texts back, questions buzzing in her mind. she wonders what rory did to gather such attention. it certainly isn't a smart move -- leaders never need attention directed towards them, lest anyone gets suspicious.
she lets herself into the apartment. she already has a couple questions running through her mind. she sits down on the couch, leaning back onto the arm. if rory trusts her, he'll tell her the truth.
he breathed a sigh of relief as he closed the door behind him. while he wasn't scared of going to jail he was however scared about his identity and how it could have been compromised. well, it probably already has been. he was quite sure julius knows more than he's saying. but whatever.
he opened the fridge to pull out a bottle of beer, popping the cap off using the side of the counter. he took a sip and walked over to the couch and planted down. his phone vibrated with a text bubble. he read it and shook his head.
he shouldn't have told her he was back here. now she's on the way and she's going to want answers. was he supposed to tell her the truth? he thought about it until the door opened.
"nothing much." he leaned back on the couch and folded his arms. no, he needed to be honest with her now.
"i met julius... punched him and the fucker ran but yeah."
Post by cassandra cain on Jun 30, 2015 8:44:57 GMT
she narrows her eyes when he says that nothing happened. obviously something happened, and if rory doesn't tell her then she'll find out herself. she doesn't know how. go and find the witnesses or maybe check the news. she doesn't care, but then he quickly changes his mind and tells her the truth.
while she's glad that he fessed up she's also angry. rory punched juls? her eyes light up furiously, and she's not quite sure if she wants to hit him or yell at him or not. but like rory, cass knows that she also needs to change. she takes a deep breathe and calms herself. she needs to hear the whole story before getting mad.
"did you plan it?" she asks, because if he did then it's a serious breach in their trust. she's glad that juls ran, because if all rory could get in was a punch then he's better off. she cringes at the thought of juls, bloody and beat up. and by rory, which would make it ten times worse.
right after he told her the truth he could see out of the corner of his eye cass getting angrier. she practically glared at him. but luckily she didn't snap at him. not yet, anyways. he took a sip of his beer and glared back at her, slamming the bottle down on the coffee table.
"what?" he retorted. why was she getting angry? and why was she asking those questions? he narrowed his eyes and edged himself away from her. he now faced her.
"why are you getting angry?" he barked. was there something going on between the two of them? maybe he was just being an idiot. but he couldn't shake the thought out of his head.
"no, i didn't. you're lucky he ran before i could do anything else. coward."
he whispered the last part underneath his breath. and now he was getting quite upset too. what a lovely day.
"maybe you should call him to ask how he's doing. maybe kiss him again, yeah?"
