MAYBE IT'S NOT ABOUT THE HAPPY ENDING,
Within a few short days, Cliff had already begun his adventure. He had booked a sea flight from his hometown of Cyllage City in the Kalos region to the quaint and quiet town of Littleroot Town, and his family had gotten him a Pokemon that was waiting for him upon his arrival. He took a few days to explore the town, and bond with his partner, Aldo, but his excitement for adventure got the best of him. What lie beyond the cute homes and happy families of this town?
Cliff had come to love the forest and open meadows as he walked along the dirt path, but Aldo’s curiosity had gotten the best of his patience. From what he had learned, Aldo was an incredibly happy and upbeat pokemon, something that he enjoyed, but what that Numel was thinking, no one would know. For the past ten minutes, Cliff had been chasing after Aldo, hoping to catch up to him before he got himself into trouble. All he could follow was the yellow hump maneuvering his way in and out of the tall grasses and bushes, and Cliff was doing his best to keep up with him. “Aldo!” he called hoping to get his Pokemon’s attention, but it was useless, seeing his Pokemon dash through another bush.
ducklett honks in surprise as he comes face to face with a numel. what did this big behemoth want? maybe he can hitch a ride. ducklett flies up and lands on the back of the numel. he honks it at to keep going.
Finally, he could see that he was closing in on the stubborn Aldo. For whatever reason, he could see the yellow hump sticking above the grasses as he ran closer, but his Numel had given up the chase. Maybe he had found something tasty to eat, or maybe his stubby little legs had given out, but either way, Cliff was happy. He finally would have a chance to catch his breath.
He had come up to the bush, hoping to jump over it and calm his Pokemon down, but his foot had caught a root on his way up. “This is not going to end well,” he thought, using his hands to try and brace him for the fall. Unfortunately, Cliff landed face first in the dirt, getting a mouthful of grit and grass, right in front of Aldo. His Numel had turned to look at his trainer, feeling a bit bad for causing him pain, and checked to make sure he was okay. Even when a wild Ducklett had landed on his hump, he remained calm and decided to trot around, eating some grass.
When Cliff was ready to get up, he noticed Aldo roaming the clearing, but a light blue bird was on his back. It didn’t seem like the bird was bothering his Numel, so he figured he would try a more friendly approach. He came closer and looked at the Ducklett, saying, “Hey little fella, what’re you doing here?”
oh my, a human bursts out of the grass and trips in from of him! ducklett honks in laughter. how funny! he even comes to greet the ducklett. he ruffles his feathers, feeling pretty content with himself. it's gong swell! in fact, it's going so swell that he does a little water sport to celebrate the occasion.
This Ducklett was just as much of a character as Aldo was. After Cliff had approached the Pokemon, the bird had begun to shoot off a Water Sport. He was now soaked, with Aldo running around to try and avoid the bursts of water. Sure it was harmless, Cliff knew, but if there was one thing that he knew Aldo wouldn’t like, it was water. His Numel came running to him, tackling him back to the ground, and attempting to hide his large hump behind his trainer.
Cliff tried to regain his footing, and ruffled through his pack to look for some Pokemon food. All he really wanted now was to dry his clothes and get to the next town, now that he was soaking wet. However, he was sure the Pokemon just wanted to have fun, so he figured he would be kind. “You’re quite the joker, aren’t you.” he said. “Would you like some food for getting us wet?” He reached out his hand, palm open, and filled with some of the food that he had packed until he could reach the next town.
the numel instantly started to panic at the sight of water. ducklett honks in protest, and flaps off of his back angrily. he lands next to the downed trainer. ducklett tilts his head curiously. food? sure. he quacks and goes to chomp down on the trainer's hand.
The Ducklett had seemed to accept his food, which he was thankful for, but he was ready to move on. Aldo had tucked his body behind him, wrapping his neck around his leg so he could still see the bird. He shook his hump to attempt to rid himself of his wet fur, but Cliff knew that his natural heat would dry him off within some time. He reached down to give that yellow hump a quick rub, feeling a bit soggy, and decided to continue farther down the route. “Stay out of trouble Ducklett,” Cliff said, with a smile on his face. Even after he was soaked with water, and he fell on his face, it seemed like nothing could make him upset. While he wouldn't say he met a new friend, he hoped another chance would await him further down.
ducklett waves at the trainer and his pokemon. he's pretty nice, even after the numel incident. he even got some food after him. that's cool, maybe he'll see him again eventually.
cliff successfully flees ducklett! another pokemon? Cliff Roderick
After departing, Cliff and Aldo continued to walk down Route 101, in search of the way to Oldale Town. He had helped to dry off his Numel, who was now much happier, sporting a large grin across his face as he happily walked alongside his trainer. Aldo was much more calm, not darting in and out of bushes and dragging his trainer around to chase after him, and instead galloped around looking for some delicious grass to eat. He quickly moved to a nearby fern to start eating, but nearby, Cliff could hear the rustling of bushes. Was it a wild Pokemon, or a trainer who was running nearby? Maybe it was Team Magma or Team Aqua completing one of their secret missions? Either way, only time would tell.
pidgey looks up at the invasion of her territory. hey -- get away! she flaps quickly to the source of sound. a human and his pokemon. how horrid. she squaks, swiping down on the ground and sending a sand-attack towards the numel.
Cliff and Aldo didn’t realize it, but they had stepped too far into the Pidgey’s territory, and were now being pelted by sand from a sand attack. He had shielded his eyes while his Numel was trying to avoid getting hit, but it became a bit difficult for the Pokemon to see. As Cliff looked at his opposition, he knew that there would be no running from this opponent. Where food and kindness had gotten them out of their last fight, it seemed that he would have to cause some harm in order to proceed on their journey. “Aldo, fire up a Heat Wave!” he cried. The yellow camel like Pokemon took a deep breath before exhaling towards the opposing Pidgey, sending hot air towards it.
pidgey visibly wilts at the burst of heat. she sweats. some feathers even start singing. however, she must push on. pidgey attempts to tackle the numel, although with it's size it's not a very smart attempt.
Cliff smiled as the Heat Wave hit its mark. The bird had visibly succumbs to the intense heat that his Numel had been putting out. Their opponent had begun to charge at Aldo, in what appeared to be a tackle to Cliff, but the novice trainer wasn’t too worried. This tiny bird versus his tank of a Pokemon, he was sure that it wouldn’t be an issue. “Take the hit Aldo, and when it is close, use Ember.” The Pidgey had hit Aldo quite hard, with much more force than he had originally expected, but his Numel was quick to follow up with an Ember attack while the Pidgey was still in close range. Hopefully this bird would tire out shortly. Who knows, it was putting up quite a fight, and Cliff was thinking about catching it. His knuckles curled around one of the spare balls he had in his pack, hoping he would get the chance.
Aldo was hit by Tackle. It is now Slightly Injured.
Now he knew he had overdone it. He didn’t want to scorch the Pidgey, he just wanted to get it to leave him and Aldo alone. However, this battle had proved what a great Pokemon this Pidgey was. She had been quick and swift, and Cliff had figured had they not gotten off on the wrong foot, the she would have been very friendly. With the Poke Ball that he had already been gripping, he tossed it towards the now downed Pokemon, and watch it as it opened and pulled the wild Pokemon inside. After a few shakes it stopped, signaling the capture of his newest companion.
He had congratulated Numel, giving him a quick pat on the hump and giving some words of encouragement. As Cliff was doing so though, he could hear his stomach growling, and decided it would be best to find some food. The pair had walked a little bit, until Cliff had found in apple tree. He told Aldo to wait for him as he climbed the tree, and sat on a branch, taking a few apples on their stems. As he was doing so he thought he had heard something near him, but decided to continue.
