Rustboro City had proven to be an exciting place after all. Just outside of the city limits was where Sylvester managed to hatch his baby Torchic, which was now perched on his right shoulder and chirping away as the two of them soaked in the environment of the city's park on this sunny fair-weathered day. "Looks like everyone else is enjoying the day as well. Good thing we decided to come."
Before the two were a multitude of coordinators, trainers, but most of all—their pokemon. Many different types of pokemon were present, making oneself wonder how or where they got these pokemon. 'I hope I can catch some more interesting pokemon soon. This is beginning to bum me out.' After all, Sylvester had lost nigh every single trainer battle he had had in the last several weeks of his being a pokemon trainer. 'Or maybe meet some more trainers. Who knows if I can ever make a trade with one of them, right?'
Penelope stared quietly as the other trainers moved around her, taking in as many faces as she could in complete silence. It was nice to people-watch, and being in a slightly mysterious profession where she got to do just that, made it all the more interesting.
Her eyebrows raised slightly as she took notice of another trainer who was seemingly as interested in the crowd as she was, although it was probably for a different reason... That didn't matter to Penelope, she just needed someone to talk to, to seem more inconspicuous to the crowd.
Pushing off of the small rock wall she had been leaning against, she walked over to the man, her houndour quick on his feet behind her, staring cautiously at the man.
"Business or vacation?" Penelope put on her best smile, asking politely. "Rustboro is a great place for either." She noted, realizing that asking such a question might seem a bit too forward. She glanced quickly to the torchic on his shoulder, and wiggled her fingers in a small wave.
"Hello.~" She practically chirped to the little fire pokemon.

"Can it be both?" He spoke with a subtle smile, wondering slightly what made the lady so curious about it. His pokemon, however, was nowhere cautious at all, tweeting away in response to the blonde. "Oh yeah, it is great." His parents were rather wealthy, and Rustboro was one of their more promising locations in terms of business. They frequented between here and the other cities or towns of Hoenn region all the time during his childhood. It was nice to be the one traveling for once. Yolo...
"Apologies about my pokemon. Really energetic, this one." It was all said under the obnoxious sound of the pokemon, wondering himself if it was annoying her. The impulse to put the pokemon back into it's ball was tempting. "So, what's your name? I'm Sylvester Blackburne."
Penelope laughed at how rambunctious the little torchic was. It reminded her of some of Elijah's pokemon, and she suddenly felt a little homesick for him, wondering where he was and how he was doing. She hadn't heard from him in a while...
Shaking her head free of any sad thoughts, she smiled back at Sylvester and motioned around to the crowd of people moving about them. "Seems like you were the only other person stopping to smell the roses." She shrugged, being honest about that, at least.
"I'm Penelope. Penelope Reed. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. It seems we have both enjoyment, business, and old-school names in common." She laughed.

"Yeah, you're right." Sylvester concurred with a soft chuckle. Penelope sure had a comforting sense of humor. "Though, if they've lasted that long they must be good, no?" At least he felt so, glad to have his own name, and also liking her name as well. "So, do you train or work with pokemon at all?" His curiosity always had him wondering this about people.
"Oh yeah, if my Torchic is annoying you just let me know, I'll place him back inside his pokeball." Even now his Torchic was tweeting away, although stopped when he uttered those words—giving his head a jab with it's small beak and pouting, exclaiming "Torchic!" loudly. 'Pokemon can be such a pain...' He waited for Penelope to answer.
Grinning at the interaction between Sylvester and his torchic, Penelope reached out and stroked back the feathers on the little bird pokemon's head, before retracting her hand and placing it calmly on the top of Bruce's head, who had been standing patiently beside her, watching the two interact with the torchic and each other.
"True enough about the names... And yes, I'm a trainer. I have Bruce, here..." Penelope motioned quickly to her little companion, before smiling at Sylvester.
"I also have Wyck, a fletchling, and Iris, my absol, but they're sleeping right now." Penelope shrugged. Her pokemon deserved a little rest once in a while.
"If you're having trouble with your torchic, you could always threaten to take away treats for a week." Penelope laughed. "Or obedience school!"

His Torchic gave a menacingly cute glare towards Penelope, tweeting away viciously before Sylvester decided enough was enough. Forcing the pokemon back inside it's ball, he tucked it back into the confines of his trench coat before resuming their conversation. "On the contrary, I plan to feed my Torchic plenty of rare candies and the like. I keep hearing about how powerful the pokemon are that he evolves into, so I can't wait to help him evolve." He allowed a small grin on his face.
"Hello there, Bruce." He gazed down at the Houndour, only knowing what it was because his cousin, Alastor Clarke, had his own Houndour as well. "He's pretty well-mannered for a Houndour. The only other one I've encountered was always growling and grunting. Almost as much of a nuisance as my Torchic proves to be." It was pretty disheartening to admit his pokemon seemed more annoying, but at least Torchic would grow to become a mighty adversary to any who would oppose Sylvester.

Penelope stroked Bruce's head gently, laughing at the way he looked a little bit more puffed up and interested in Sylvester now that he had complimented him. Rolling her eyes, she pulled out his pokeball and put him back inside, laughing softly. "He'll get a big head if you compliment him too much." She grinned.
When he asked about gym badges, Penelope just shook her head and took out a small container where she had all her badges from other regions. Kanto was full, a Johto had some, but Hoenn was completely empty. "I haven't tried yet. I don't want to go out of my league. My pokemon aren't very high-leveled... I don't get much chance to battle." Penelope shrugged.
It was true, though. She had only really had troubles with wild pokemon once in Hoenn so far, and she had only had a couple of battles, too.
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 12, 2015 1:42:04 GMT
"Ah, well that's too bad. Though I haven't any badges myself, not even from other regions." Though, admittedly Sylvester was still relatively confident in his pokemon and his prowess as a trainer. "Maybe it'd be good if Bruce got a big head. In my experience pokemon that are sure of themselves are usually better off than those that lack confidence, or bridge towards being timid." And in his opinion, this was especially the case for a pokemon like Poochyena. Sylvester had yet to capture a pokemon of this type, and seeing a pure dark pokemon now was quite the coincidence.
"Would you...care for a quick battle?" Perhaps she wouldn't bite, but the lure had been set out aspiring to be taken irregardless. Sylvester enjoyed battling anyone and everyone now, even if he lost. At least then his pokemon and himself grew more experienced, helping them in the long run when it came to challenging the eight gyms of Hoenn.

Penelope raised her eyebrows slowly at Sylvester's suggestion, smiling a bit at how nice he was about it. She loved friendly battles, and he seemed friendly enough... But battling could change people, so she was never too sure if she could take people at face value until they shone their true colours during a battle.
Pulling Bruce's pokeball out, she twisted it in her fingers and glanced at it, thinking about what it would be like to battle with Sylvester. Finally, she nodded her head slowly and smiled up at the man, gripping the pokeball a little bit tighter in excitement. It would help her leveling so she could find this mystery texter and give him a piece of her mind.
"I would love to battle. Any particular levels you want to use?" She tilted her head and waited for a response.
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 13, 2015 7:38:15 GMT
His eyes lit up. 'So she does want to battle after all?'"Great." Sylvester said with a grin on his face. "I'll use one of my weakest pokemon, she's only level 10 right now." Reaching in an grabbing a different pokeball than the one from before, Sylvester released his own dog-like pokemon before them—an Electrike.
"This is Athena, she's an electric type pokemon. An Electrike, to be exact." Waiting for Penelope to decide on her own like-leveled pokemon, he stood up from his seat and moved to where they and their pokemon would have enough space to do battle. "You can have the first move, me and Athena are ready to battle when you are." Sylvester grinned further, his pokemon taking an offensive posture and proclaiming "Ele!" in agreement.
Penelope raised her eyebrows at the thought that one of his weakest pokemon was at level 10. She felt a little disheartened, after all this time, she had taken a break from the training and hustle of pokemon life to pursue the secret texter, not really spending any time at all making her pokemon stronger.
She'd have to change that.
Raising her arm, she unleashed Bruce from his pokeball once more and smiled at him, rubbing his ear gently as he stood beside of her. "Friendly fight, okay, Bruce?" She mumbled quietly to him, before stepping back to have ample room between the two pokemon and Sylvester. "Fire Fang first, I think.

Adorning a smile as the battle finally ensued, Sylvester winced momentarily after observing the number Penelope's Houndour did on his Electrike. She stumbled back a bit, taking the hit directly to the face and fearing for her eye. Eager to hurt the Houndour back, Sylvester commanded the Electrike perhaps a little sooner than he should have. "Athena quick, use tackle."
The Electrike opened it's eyes and the fur around them was being singed, bringing about great irritation as she tried to run down her opponent. Her movements were sloppy, and overall the Electrike already seemed like it was not well off to begin with.

Biting her lip at how critical of a hit it was that got poor Athena, she glanced down to Houndour and shook her head a bit, rubbing her temples. "I said gentle..." She grumbled under her breath. She hated hurting pokemon, especially with her own.
She breathed out a soft sigh and glanced up at Sylvester, shrugging apologetically, but sincerely. She meant it; no one liked to see their pokemon get hurt.
At least she still had some fight left as she charged head-on into the Houndour, taking him off his feet for a few seconds. Penny waited for any other attacks, before motioning gently with her hand for Bruce to go ahead and attack again.

Athena appeared ready to fight, a fair show of her strength displayed as she knocked the Houndour over. And while Penelope seemed to usher for her pokemon to take things lightly, it did not hold back from using the same attack. Even Sylvester flinched a bit when he saw his pokemon take the hit yet again, this time being struck in the torso. Sylvester was torn to see the wound left a burn mark on Athena's body, causing her to wince in pain from the initial damage from the attack.
"Athena, keep it together." With the Electrike falling to it's knees, it's spirit was still yearning to continue this battle as the pokemon struggled to get back up. However, the mark on the pokemon seemed to ignite for a moment, causing Athena to buckle under all the pain and stress. Even Sylvester could tell it was over. "Athena, return." With his pokemon safe within the confines of his pokeball, he smiled lightly towards Penelope and her Houndour, Bruce. "You got me." Followed by a soft chuckle, Sylvester tried to play off the defeat. It was a friendly match after all, so he didn't have to take it too seriously. Yet he was a little displeased.
"I guess I should get going soon. Would you mind exchanging contact information?" Sylvester reached into his coat and retrieved his pokenav from it's confines, hoping for Penelope to be willing to do the same. He wanted to battle again, but not now. Perhapse after Penelope caught some more pokemon, and challenged her first gym?
