galahad was interesting. the gible had an awkward stride as he sort of waddled over to benji's whistles. dusk was approaching and arthur was even more awake than before, hopping on one foot and making strange noises. the gible peered at the hoothoot in interest, making a gurgling sound before it came out as a weird, rumbling coo.
now that was weird. he stared at the gible incredulously. it was no flying-type, and it was behaving really strangely. galahad had only seen humans like benji (whom he had imprinted on like a duckling to their mother) and arthur. benji had his theories, but whether he was planning to prove his hypotheses would take a while longer.
galahad made a strange squawking sound as he heard the sound of lapping water and waves crashing against the shore. startled, the gible squinted at the coast. "that's the sea," benji supplied, eager to get along to slateport. briney was only open in the morning, so they'd have to ask the old man then. in the meantime, he settled with the gible on a craggy rock, pleased to see that the beach was for the most part, empty. not having to deal with crowds of people like in petalburg was certainly welcome. arthur pecked at the sand, trying to pick up anything that caught his eye.
One quick evening stroll and that was it. That was what Syndra had promised her Vulpix but nothing more. The fox took advantage of that fact to run ahead into route 104 with the female trainer in tow struggling to keep her eye on the fire type. As long as the pokemon was within sight she wouldn't restrain the fox's antics. So far nothing was wrong with that and as long as Syndra could get enough sleep to catch the boat the next day then she would not complain. She needed to get to slateport as well though there were other problems that were associated with getting to the event there the female decided to just push that to the back of her mind for now.
It was soon enough though that the multi-tailed pokemon would spot something that interested her and ran towards it with no heed. Slowly turning to where Vulpix was headed her eyes widened just as the fire type stopped directly in front of the male and his pokemon. "Benji?" She didn't wait for an affirmative response to approach. Scooping up her little fox into her arms as to not have her cause trouble, she was able to recognize the man's face on closer inspection. "Sorry about my Vulpix. She likes to run off meeting people." The fox didn't appear displeased by this action and only struggled slightly to get more comfortable, giving small calls of her name while pawing at her trainer's forearm. "I didn't expect to run into you again so soon."
the gible watched the hoothoot with an intense gaze, mimicking the creature's actions. when arthur spread his wings, galad tried to stretch his stubby little arms out, grinning wide and toothily at his achievement. benji humoured him with an awkwardly placed smile. this was interesting as well, he guessed, having a non-flying type raised by a flying-type. he just hoped that the gible wouldn't be too upset to find out that he would never really be capable of flying. benji didn't have the heart to shatter his spirit now. he hated to admit it, but he just might have a soft spot for the young little thing.
he heard his name. sure, die hard fans would scream it and he would try to ignore, but this one sounded familiar. he recognised the green hair, not having forgotten syndra from earlier. "syndra," he greeted back, calm as ever. the gible noticed the vulpix and blinked at it curiously. it certainly looked very different from the humans he had seen up to now. he spread his arms wide and bared his teeth proudly, trying to show off what he had picked up from arthur in an endearing manner.
"i can say the same," he replied. he could uphold a conversation when it came to work, but on a social level, benji faltered a little. "have you been well?"
The gible was a surprising sight as it was a rare pokemon to run into. The dragon type made a strange motion that was unusual for its kind as well to which puzzled the green haired girl. Blinking to make sure that she wasn't seeing things, the female turned her attention to Benji as he addressed her. The question was somewhat generic but she didn't really know what she should have expected. "Oh yeah. Vulpix was just a bit restless so we were going for a short walk." Vulpix yipped in agreement as she sniffed around from the vantage of Syndra's grasp. "What about you? What are you doing out here so late?"
Short post is short. Gonna get you to the event asap
it was good to hear from syndra, even if they had barely been apart for long. he nodded his head towards the hoothoot. "arthur's wide awake at this time of the day. his body clock seems out of whack." a little crudely put, but there wasn't a lot of way around it. he stared wistfully out at the sea. "my gible just hatched not too long ago... he's been sticking to arthur closely, since i only have these two." he really should go and catch more pokemon, really should, but he could never really find himself the time to do so.
"i like the night myself. it's a lot more peaceful. less likely to run into people, although i guess you're the exception to that."
"Ha ha..." Syndra laughed awkwardly at the comment he made. It almost sounded like she was a bother the way it was put. Using her free hand she rubbed the back of her head with slight embarrassment. "I won't stay in your hair long," she added in swiftly so he wouldn't get too sick of her. Trusting that her fire fox would behave now the girl knelt down and placed the pokemon back on her feet. Luckily the fire type didn't run off immediately as she took interest in the other pokemon. Syndra didn't stand back up immediately however as she also took interest in the dragon type. Looking the pokemon over she spoke again, "I didn't even realize you were carrying an egg when we first met. Congrats. I'm sort of jealous."
"it's fine," he reassured her again like the last time she had run into him. "you're infinitely more tolerable than the fans i have to deal with." it was a bit hard to tell, especially when he was dressed lazily in a plain shirt and jeans that benji modelled. he looked like any normal guy with above average features. "i was hoping to catch a ride out to slateport, but we'll have to come back in the morning. wouldn't want to bother mr. briney to travel out at this hour." it was dark, too, so travelling the sea routes would be dangerous.
with the vulpix let down, the gible continued to show off his moves, making a strange 'ka! ka!' sound as he hopped around on his stubby legs. "thank you," he responded, feeling sheepish. "he took a while to hatch, actually... i was quite worried." if anyone asked him, he would have denied it and proceeded to lie that galahad was hatched without any complications. "i'm starting to think the delay had some effects on his development..."
"Fans?" she repeated the word questioningly, not sure what he meant by that. Was Benji famous or something? Asking something like that seemed to be an invasion of privacy however so she refrained from delving that deep. Instead she focused on his words and clapped as she realized something. "Oh you're going to slateport! You were invited to that formal dance thing too right?" Syndra asked with some joy in her voice. Knowing someone else that she knew, even if slightly, was going to be there gave her some enthusiasm to attend the event. Before she could say anything else however something else managed to catch the Vulpix's attention. The fire type stopped for a second dazed by the sight then bolted off without another second to waste. Noticing this too late Syndra's eyes widened. "Oh Arceus. I'm so sorry I have to go," she said hurriedly as she started walking off. With a wave and a smile she called out one final time before chasing after the fox. "I'll see you in Slateport then!"
