Yami could only watch as couples danced, friends talked and family seemed to walk in. He wondered if this was a frequent occurrence or if it was something that anyone was invited to. His eyes briefly rested on Machiko who was busy charming a waiter and getting little tidbits of food from the woman. He rolled his eyes at the feline with a soft puff of laughter, exasperated at her ability to manipulate people so easily. Sometimes he honestly wondered who caught who that day on Route 101 when they’d come across each other. The feline was just too much at times but the moments where she acted like the kitten she was always made it worth it, especially whenever she got into one of her cuddling moods. Now though…was not one of those times so with a shake of his head the musician allowed his eyes to continue flickering over people.
One couple made him chuckle a little as he watched a bit of their interaction. They were seriously like two hormonal teenagers and he could do nothing but watch as they seemed completely wrapped up in each other. His eyes drifted away after a moment, giving them their privacy in turn to watch two girls be rather friendly with each other and his eyebrow quirked in vague interest at the sight before he moved on. There were a few people along the walls like he was, watching and enjoying people watching. His attention was stolen from those people as he took a sip of his drink when a loud voice called out to someone. He watched as some males spoke to each other, seeming rather close before growing bored. His eyes soon went from people to pokemon, taking in all the different kinds. Dratini, houndour, Persians, swablu’s and various other types that no doubt matched their owners or their owners masks in some way.
His eyes momentarily flickered to the entrance as a rather tall man stepped in with and interesting mask before separating from the woman he was with. His steely gaze following him for a moment before something else caught his attention, a rather impressive Seviper was situated on the other side of the gala by a man who was impressively dressed. He let out a thoughtful hum before he realized something…Machiko was out of his sight. Letting out a small curse he pushed himself from the wall sharply his gaze flickering in attempt to catch sight of his Glameow. “Machiko??” He raised his voice the slightest and was about to call for her again when her head popped out from in between two dancers and she mewled softly. He instantly relaxed and shook his head at the approaching feline pokemon before scooping her up to reassure himself. “Let’s not do that again. You’re staying here with me.”
The feline purred contently and snuggled down in his arms but Yami was a little more aware of the few gazes he’d managed to attract. Sighing lightly his little moment of being invisible was suddenly over and he wasn’t sure if he approved of that or not.
The words "hey Usa" echoed from behind him. The voice seemed familiar. Usa quickly turned to see who called him. The voice was familiar! To his surprise, it was Dmitri, the trainer he had met on route 101. Usa's eyes lit up at the sight of someone he knew. "Hey" he replied with a smile. "It really has been awhile".He stuck his right hand out for a handshake. "How have you been?" The fact that Dmitri was giving his Pokemon a stern look went unnoticed. Usa was just happy there was someone else here that he knew.
Leonidas stood proudly beside his trainer. He returned Dmitri's hard look with an equally stern glare. It was almost as if the Pokemon was telling the trainer that he did whatever he pleased. He did not glare long, however, for much like his trainer, Leonidas was in a friendly mood. He simply turned his head and attempted to nuzzle the little Swinub on his back. "Sol...sol" the Pokemon purred as he rubbed his nose against the swinub on his back.
By now, Usa had moved in closer to Dmitri. Grabbing on to is elbow, he proclaimed: "I have to introduce you to my brother". He looked around for a bit, but Risu was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he had already made his way to the food and was off somewhere chowing down? "Ugh...well...maybe once I find him I'll introduce you to my brother".He quickly let go of Dmitri's elbow and took a few steps forward. "For now, i'll take you up on your offer. Let's go get something to eat". As he beckoned to Leonidas to follow him, he asked with a smile plastered on his face: "Did you sign up for the speed dating event? I did...I thought it would be a great way to meet more trainers". He didn't wait for Dmitri to respond. He began to weave his way through the crowd towards where the food was.

"I've been... good, I guess? Broski too." He felt odd with Usa grabbing onto his elbow, but he brushed off this sensation and tried to follow Usa's words. Usa mentioned a brother and suddenly, in the back of Dmitri's mind, the image of a hulking, monstrous older brother ready to tear him limb-from-limb on Dmitri's poor figure. I hope he's not overprotective.
"Y-you have a brother? I'd be happy to say hello..." It was all he managed to choke out before Usa started making his way towards the banquet. Oh heavens, why am I the caboose... It took all of his dignity to not let his eyes sink too far down. Instead he focused on Usa's hair, which was this brilliant blonde that almost looked golden... He almost tripped over someone's dress shoes, catching himself to avoid embarrasment. Stop daydreaming, you pervy klutz. Hopefully Absol would know well enough to scamper alongside.
"I was gonna, but then I crumbled up the form and threw it in the wastebasket... I'm not sure I'm suited for such formalities. I'd have probably ended up being kicked out anyways, you know me." He smiled at Usa teasing, knowing better that it was his uncomfortability parading around his private life in such an open environment. Certainly their masks provided anonymity to strangers, but not to familiars. I wouldn't want Usa to think poorly of me, he already did when we first met... Dmitri tried to push past such thoughts as he brushed through the crowd alongside Usa.
I'm glad I came tonight; this should be the most fun I've had since I came. Hoenn is an amazing place.

we are quirky, totally crazy, fairly broken but nicely decorated
A voice, clear enough to cut through the drone of background noise comprised of dozens of people chattering among themselves, caught Kristmar's attention. The voice itself wasn't one he particularly recognized, especially with the persistent murmuring of other trainers distorting it, but the name it called was one he knew. Machiko wasn't a very common name or, at least, it wasn't one he could honestly say he'd heard very often.
Kristmar lowered his glass from his lips and lifted his chin slightly, trying to scope out where the voice had come from. Through the legs of the gala's other participants, he saw flashes of a navy pelt as something wove between them quickly, flickering in and out of view. A glance of its ribbonlike tail made him realize that it was actually a glameow who was scooped up by the waiting arms of it trainer.
Machiko? A glameow?
The long-haired male's mouth opened slightly in recognition as his eyes went to the owner's touseled dark hair, combed back into a tiny ponytail that honestly reminded him of a bunneary's short, stumpy tail than anything. It had to be Kurayami, a young man he'd encountered in the previous town because... how many glameow's named Machiko could he say he knew? The man appeared as though he'd arrived alone as well, like him, so...
Kris watched the slightly younger trainer through his snakelike eyemask from across the room for a moment longer before one of his hands hesitantly left his delicate champagne flute. When Kurayami's eyes roamed over to this side of the room, he gave a nonchant wiggle of his fingers, offering the man a small, casual wave. Kasimir, noticing his trainer trying to catch the attention of another trainer, gave a breathy snort and rolled his head before slithering around his ankles comfortably and coiling loosely near his feet. At least if Kristmar found himself occupied with another human... he may be able to sneak away to get a closer look at that fair dratini. As if to encourage him somewhat, he gave Kris' ankles a gentle squeeze before going back to his staring and tasting of the air.
Usa chuckled, "Yeah, he's younger than me. People say we look alike, but I don't see the resemblance". He chuckled again.
After a few minutes of weaving through the crowd, he finally landed at the buffet table. He quickly scanned the food that was there. The fried berries looked good. Oh, but there was also wild berry soup. He made a mental note to try a bit of everything. Oh, there's even a table for Pokefood and Poketreats. Leonidas is gonna love those! Once he was finished scanning the table, he turned to look behind him...just in time to watch Dmitri emerge from the crowd. With a faint smile, Usa tilted his head to the side. "Yeah, I know you..." his smile became wider. "But, I think you sell yourself short. I'm sure you would be one of those popular ones in the room". He then turned back around and reached for a plate.
Leonidas looked up at his trainer with a face that screamed "Really!?". He then shook his head vigorously in disbelief before making his way to the end of the table. Once there, the Pokemon sat upright like a guard dog, causing tiny Swinub to slowly slide off his back. Leonidas chuckled playfully as he kept his head facing forward.

"... You really think so? I don't know, I think they'd just laugh at my accent." Dmitri looked down at Leonidas just in time to watch Broski slide off onto the floor, his back smacking the marble floor and causing him to freeze up and grunt in mild displeasure. Broski lay on the floor helpless to get back onto his feet. Help me! seemed to be his choice of words from the frantic scurrying his little nubby feet were doing in its panic.
Poor fella. He reached down and scooped his Swinub into his arms, and placed him on his head for the moment. It likely looked like some oddly misshapen toupe. Hopefully everyone would recognize it for the pokemon it was.
"Hmmm... what is all of this? None of it looks familiar..." Dmitri was accustomed to pastas, breads, and meats. What lay assorted on the table before them were berries, berries everywhere as far as the eye could see. He wanted something salty or spicy, but everything looked sweet. I'm going to get a stomach ache. Broski kept shuffling around on Dmitri's head, so he quickly plucked some fried berries from the table and fed it to the beast so that it might quiet itself.
"Is any of this salty? I don't want sweets to ruin my appetite..." He wandered up to Usa's side, standing just behind him so as to not get in the way of his hands should Usa go to grab something off the table. He's putting a little bit of everything on his plate... Dmitri started following suit, though he wasn't confident the variety would appeal to his foreigner's robust palette.
Use turned to look at Dmitri. The Swinub sitting comfortably atop his head made Usa chuckle. "Looks good on you..." he joked. "Just like a toupee". Bringing his hand to his mouth, he then laughed out loud. It reminded him of something his brother would do. It was kind of endearing. He turned to look once more at the spread of food. "I think this might just be appetizers. Maybe they'll bring more stuff out a little later. Or the real stuff might just be somewhere else". He paused for a moment and then continued: "Berries are good for you, so at least you're getting some of the healthy stuff out of the way". He smiled and then looked over at Leonidas - signalling him to follow. "Let's find somewhere to sit..."

"Mmmmmmm." Healthy never tasted so sweet. It was soft and squishy but it oozed flavor from every inch of its fiber. When it was gone, it almost went tart. I could get used to this. Dmitri lagged behind Usa, trying to scrounge a little more room on his plate before setting off after Usagi. He'd already found a table while Dmitri barely caught up, seated before Dmitri even came within earshot. Next came a red berry.
"This looks interesting... *Bleugh*!" It was an odd berry, probably the weirdest thing he had ever expected to cross his lips. It's... spicy. He thought only pokemon had spicy berries, so he wondered if this was pokemon food or if some people actually liked this. He shoved it at Broski, who still lay on his head, and awaited the results eagerly.
"You liked it?" Swinub had exclaimed excitedly, enthralled by the taste of the berry. Back home many Mamoswine would scavange for horseradish, a spicy root, which grew in the wintry climate of his homeland. These berries seemed to be a generic substitute, and Broski suddenly jumped down onto the table and began sucking these particular berries off his plate. Dmitri rubbed the nape of his neck apologetically, laughing all the while.
"Thanks, Broski, but why don't you get off the table now?" Rousting him from the tablecloth, he plopped him back down on the floor. Perhaps he'd toss a few scraps at Broski now and again if the food kept turning out most unusual.
"So what's your brother's name? What's he like?" Dmitri was intent on learning more about Usa's brother, who was mysterious and unnamed to him thus far. If they travel together, it's weird I haven't met his brother before. Evidently this elusive figure hadn't been around back then, or even now, and it made Dmitri ponder heavily.
With his hands to his cheeks and a pleasant smile on his face, Usa looked on as Dmitri interacted with his Pokemon. It was a pleasant moment that seemed to fill Usa with a strange feeling of happiness. It was nice to see another trainer care for their Pokemon as much as he did for his. Dmitri spitting out the berry made him chuckle. I don't like that one either... he thought. I should have probably warned you.
Leonidas brushed against Usa's leg. As soon as the Pokemon got his trainer's attention, he looked up and smiled. Was Leo hungry? Usa question. He leaned over to rub the fur on the Pokemon's neck. The Absol seemed to giggle from the sensation. "I'll get you some food buddy...you stay here". As he slowly rose to leave the table, he looked over at Dmitri. It was just in time for Usa to catch his eyes. They were focused... He was determined about something... "My brother? he's a bit of an oddball like you" he said playfully. "His name is Risu... I think you two might get a long since you're both kinda similar". Usa smiled and then took a few steps away from the table. "I'll be right back. Just going to get Leo something to eat. Would you like anything?"
Post by Dmitri Khvostov on Jul 8, 2015 19:12:14 GMT
"Aww, you're so mean.~ But I guess I deserve as much" Risu sounded like he was a decent enough guy, at least. Probably not the hulking monster of a brother Dmitri was worried Risu might have been. Phew... Usa seemed to be distracted by Leonidas, standing to make another pass at the tables set before them. I guess he wants to make sure he feeds Absol what's good for him... He watched as Broski pigged out on the remaining spice berries, and saw him gaze up expectantly. More. His gut was bottomless... Dmitri's was, too.
"Maybe something for Broski. You decide what exactly, you'll probably know what's healthier for him anyways. I don't know what I'd do if he got sick 'cause I fed him something rancid to him." It doesn't feel right somehow, having him leave without me. Dmitri wanted to stand up and walk back with Usa, but leaving their pokemon unattended would be a mistake. So he remained seated, and reached under the table, clicking his tongue and giving a small whistle.
"Pssst... Leo... Hey, sorry I called you a poodle back then. Truce?" A single piece of jerky he'd been saving, smoked and covered in black peppercorns, was jutting from his grip. Absol ought to enjoy it, but Dmitri couldn't know for certain. Don't bite me, don't bite me... Hopefully it took the offering, otherwise Broski would slobber all over it before giving it up and ruining the delicacy for Leonidas and Dmitri both.
when cain got the message on his poketch, he knew that he was going to go for sure. but he needed to make ends work. the admission's free, the food's free, but everything else isn't. he has to scrounge whatever money he could to rent out a cheap suit. it's ill-fitting and uncomfortable, but cain doesn't mind. he can get by if that means going to the formal.
he brings his murkrow with him, perched on his shoulder. serling's obnoxious and practically laughs at every of cain's misfortunes, but that's typical of a dark type. the formal is supposed to be fun. he guesses he just came to socialize. he's a bit late though, and his stomach growls and aches in hunger. maybe some thai food would be nice...
hcain scans the table of masks before taking a zorua mask, pitch black with red dots lining it's sides. he wears it on the upper half of his face. "do you recognize anybody?" he asks to serling, but the murkrow only caws and cackles. he rolls his eyes under his mask.
he enters another room. everyone's wearing masks and cain feels rather alienated from the room until he spots a plume of green hair. he could recognize it from anywhere. syndra. at least, he thinks it is. cain walks towards her, plucking two wine glasses from a nearby table in an attempt to distract from his halphazard suit. her dress looks outwordly and different, but cain finds that he rather likes it. he nudges
The Pokemon looked Dmitri up and down and then scuffed. As soon as Usa walked away, Leonidas' pleasant attitude changed. With his face looking away from Dimitri, he glared from the corner of his eye. But, the bit of meat Dmitri pulled out smelled and looked irresistible. Alright, you earned my attention...
The Pokemon approached cautiously - taking a whiff with each step. He slowly pushed his nose against the meat while still glaring at the trainer. With a quick swipe, the Absol removed the meat from Dimitri's hand and then returned to where it was sitting. Its posture was upright, which made the Pokemon appear dignified. With a more relaxed expression, he peered at Dmitri from the corner of his eye..."Sol" an abrupt bark that signalled a 'thank you'. The Pokemon scuffed once more, however, to let the trainer know that he would be keeping an eye on him.
The touch on her arm refocused Syndra away from her mystified thoughts towards the physical contact. With a slight turn her soft jade colored eyes rested upon the male that stood near her who she assumed had wanted her attention. At first her eyes went to the cute mask on his face then to the dark type perched on his shoulder. Next she looked over his entire form which wasn't as tidy as the other guests she had seen around her but she wasn't exactly in a position to judge. In his hands were two glasses of distinctly dark red wine to which she rose a brow to from behind her mask. The offer was obvious if not forward as she looked directly to the masked man behind the Zorua mask. Only when her name was stated by him did she realize that it was someone that recognized her. The voice was what made who was behind the mask stand out magnificently in her mind.
"Cain?" her tone mimicked Cain's questioning one like a mirror saying each other's names to discern whether or not it was the person in question. Apparently the mask didn't work and a light hue of pink rose to her cheeks out of embarrassment though most of it was hidden behind the dragonair mask. Her tense muscles did relax though and the female felt better now that she knew someone there even if she didn't personally admit it. Her next words were going to be 'what are you doing here' but that much seemed very much obvious. Instead she raises her hand to rub the back of her head, "was I that obvious?" Part of her didn't want the answer to that.

"Huh...? Alastor...?" He said, looking towards the male who had both a mask on his face, as well as a gas mask hanging off from his head. 'That's...odd, to say the least.'"Long time no see, huh? You seem to be doing well with yourself." Small talk, which wasn't his strong suit, seemed easier when it was a relative one chose to converse with.
"So, have you caught any new pokemon since our last battle? Maybe you've challenged the Petalburg City gym before me?" Of course, these were high expectations. Even still, Sylvester's inquiries were still very genuine. Besides...it was a lot more interesting to talk about pokemon and the like, as opposed to discussing the luxurious design of this room and the building containing it, or the people there. Not that Sylvester denied both it's exotic style and grandiose locale.
Machiko seemed rather proud of herself as she pured contently in his arms and Yami could only be amused at her mischievous attitude at times.Trust her to get what she wanted on way or another whether he liked it or not. Of course he didn’t really mind holding the small feline weight in his arms and if it kept her from getting lost all the better so he didn’t particularly care either. He hummed softly as his eyes wandered the dance floor, conscious of the curious eyes on him now that he’d managed to draw attention to himself. Although there was considerably less gazes now than when he’d first called out for Machiko when he’d thought he’d lost her for a moment. When he was playing the guitar or singing he didn’t particularly mind being in the spot light and having so many people watching him or even staring. However, with his Glameow in his arms and no instrument between him and these people he was suddenly hyper aware of everything around him. Granted not too many people were looking at him but there was still enough and there wasn’t anyone he recognized and could feel comfortable around.
Machiko noticing her trainer’s stiffened stance let out a soft chuffing noise, rubbing her hread against his shoulder in a comforting manner. She didn’t like him so wound up, preferring her much more relaxed and sarcastic human. Yami gave her a slight smile and scratched the underside of her chin, allowing himself to relax a bit and forget the people around him as his eyes fell away from them. He went to move to get another glass when his gaze fell on the figure he’d noticed earlier with the Seviper. He paused a little, surprised when the male waved casually to him as though he recognized him.
From behind his mask Yami’s eyebrows furrowed slightly in confusion and all thoughts of getting another drink were forgotten. He hesitated a moment, trying to place the little he could see of the male and figure out if he’d met the person before.
His feline counterpart made a soft ‘mrow’ as her eyes settled on what her human was looking at and narrowed her feline gaze slightly at both the Seviper and masked male. Her keen eyes more than able to place that blonde head of hair but she couldn’t be completely sure until they got closer. However, part of her was more than happy to keep as far from that snake as physically possible. She’d been purposefully giving it a wide berth when she was free of her trainer’s arms earlier. A small agitated flick of her tail was the only sign she wasn’t completely calm in Yami’s arms. Yami played with the collar around her neck for a moment in a distracted manner as he tried to relax her before curiosity won out. Without allowing himself to hesitate again he began forward, moving towards the figure that was smartly dressed. He weaved in and out of the bodies around him and made his way over, rarely letting his gaze lose sight of the obviously male figure. He was still trying to figure out who it could be and if he even did know this person when he got a good distance away to see them more clearly.
