Yami admittedly…was having a rather lazy day with his pokemon in tow. Sei was curled up under the shade of a tree not too far from him having not wanted to bask in the sun like his trainer did. Machiko on the other hand was more than happy to be in his lap getting the occasional scratch behind the ear as the musician trainer strummed at his guitar lazily from time to time. They’d been biding their time and getting to know each other as a team and in his own cheesy way, as a family. He’d quickly come to learn both feline pokemon were rather sassy and possessive over him, sometimes fighting for who gets the spot closest to him and other times not liking other people getting too close. It was tiring at times but it endeared the two fluff balls to him and he adored them both for how much they liked being around him.
Sometimes it was honestly easier dealing with pokemon and knowing how they felt than it was dealing with human beings. It was simpler with pokemon, especially psychic pokemon like Sei who could actually communicate with him. He glanced at the feline-like pokemon and Sei opened a single lazy eye to meet his gaze and a burst of warmth brushed against his mind before retreating. He sighed and relaxed at knowing Sei felt the same way, just as comforted and endeared by him as he was of them. His gaze dropping down to Machiko as she purred like a motorboat where she laid curled up in his lap simply sunbathing. There was no mistaking her contentment for anything else, the feline pokemon probably more than happy at having a human to feed her constantly as well as pet her whenever she demanded it.
Yawning slightly he leaned back into the short grass cushioning him, getting a churlish noise from Machiko for it before she resettled. He chuckled softly, a low rumble before he began playing his guitar again with his eyes closed and humming a soft tune that had no real meaning.

alrighty! emma knows that she's well on her way to becoming the next top trainer. she met fidel and had her first pokemon battle with alice. she also got her first goal -- to beat up that mean lady who dared to hurt fidel. emma's confident that she'll be able to track her down eventually. it's only hoenn, right? someone's bound to see her eventually, and even then, niko could totally use his contacts to track her down.
but for now, she needs to get moving! benji and fidel are cool, super cool, but she needs to get her own goals going too, you know? emma walks along the route. alice was getting tired, so she went back to her pokeball. now kostya's out. the duskull floats around her, occasionally scouting the area for any danger. she's pretty cool.
it's not long before she comes across something interesting. a guitar tune sounds out, a light song that's soothing on the ears. emma finds herself gravitated towards it. it pulls her towards another person, sitting under a tree and humming. she's immediately excited. emma runs up to the person, ecstatic -- is this guy famous too, like benji??
she talks quickly, stuttering over her words,"ohmigosh! that's so cool, are you famous?"
Machiko and Sei’s ears both twitched at the sound of someone approaching as Yami strummed his guitar and hummed distractedly. His thoughts flowing with no real purpose as he did so and enjoyed the heat. Machiko cracked a single eye open and glanced into the direction, noticing a girl approaching and after a moment of debating deciding she was no real threat to their human. Sei, trusting in Machiko’s possessiveness of Yami decided to stay where he was under the shade, brushing against Yami’s mind lightly but enough that he blinked in mild surprise at the suddenness of it. He opened his mouth to question Sei when there was suddenly a little girl in front of hum speaking.
Grey eyes blinked dazedly before her words processed and he cleared his throat a little uncomfortably, rubbing the back of his neck uncertainly. Was he famous?? People back home had been more than familiar with him and his music, some of the radios had even played it or let him perform live. What entitled being famous though? After a moment of thought his hand dropped and he sat up, getting another mulish noise from the feline pokemon before she slipped away to go lay beside Sei since her human slave was so distracted. Sei let out a soft purr like laugh before closing his eyes once more and Yami spoke up with a soft smile, “I wouldn’t say famous exactly but I was pretty well known back home.”
His gaze slid over to her pokemon and he easily deduced that she had to be a trainer of some sort, those were the only kind of people passing by here as of late. He motioned towards her pokemon and asked, “Are you heading to the nearest gym? You look like a trainer.” He let out a little noise of surprise and smiled warmly again, “I should have introduced myself first. I’m Yami by the way.”

his pokemon are pretty cool, too. she looks at the glameow. emma's pretty tempted to pet it, but she knows about their reputation. if she tries to pet the wrong one then they'll surely start scratching back. she eyes at the cat, and she's so distracted she nearly misses what the person has to say. but she catches the last snippet of his statement.
"that's so cool! you're famous!" she says, perhaps illustrating that she didn't exactly listen after all. she points at the glameow, making sure that she isn't took close to it. she made that mistake once. "can i pet your glameow??" she asks. maybe she'd get one someday! shinx is so overrated, anyways. they're mean and attacked alice and made her cry. she deflates slightly at the thought, but she ignores it and keeps a smile on her face.
"yessiree i'm a trainer! i'm going to be a champion someday, yami." she says. one hand went to her hip, while the other pointed to herself, like the hero of a movie. but then she remembers that she hasn't introduced herself either. emma perks up, using her tag line that she imagined she would when she became champion.
"my name's emma and i'm a pokemon trainer from lilycove city."
Yami opened his mouth to correct the little girl that he was only slightly well-known and only back home before just closing it with a particularly fond smile. Chuckling softly he ran a hand through his hair as he grinned at the girl softly, murmuring. “Yeah I guess you could say that then.” He settled his guitar down by his side as he sat up, resituating himself on the floor now that he had an audience to entertain though not with song as would usually be the case. Briefly he wondered if perhaps he should also do a little performing while on the road to earn some extra cash and perhaps even get a little recognition here. Plus he was sure it’d be good practice for when he started coordinating in contests, something he’d be able to add to his pokemon’s performance.
At her question about petting Machiko he blinked, looking over at the feline pokemon who was resting lazily by his Espurr. His lip twitched up in amusement and he spoke up, “Well? What do you think, Machiko?” The Glameow cracked an eye open to observe her trainer before letting it rest on the little girl contemplating her for a moment before practically gliding to her feet, stretching lazily before approaching them. She let out a soft purr before nudging her head against the little girl’s legs, entwining herself between them and mewling her name cutely. He rolled his eyes at the feline pokemon’s antics, knowing very well that this cute simpering pokemon was not the way his Glameow usually acted but she was being sweet to the little girl so he wouldn’t complain. Grinning at the girl he chuckled softly, “I don’t think she’d mind it if you did. Go ahead, she loved the attention.” As though to agree she let out another rather loud purr and brushed against the girl once more.
He grinned at the girl’s words, eyes twinkling with mirth as he said warmly. “Well when that day comes, you’re definitely going to have to give me your autograph so I can show my friends that I knew the best trainer.” There was no tease in his voice, just honest encouragement. He liked kids and he liked to believe they were capable of anything so long as they were encouraged instead of teased and vaguely agreed with. Besides, this girl looked like someone who was determined and he was sure since she was starting early, she’d definitely make it to the top one day. Offering his hand to shake and cocking his head as the little girl introduced herself, Yami spoke up warmly. “It’s nice to meet you Emma. I’m a coordinator from Kanto, these are my pokemon Machiko and Sei.” Kids were cute and this particular little girl reminded him of his little sister when they were younger. A little nugget of homesickness getting to him as an image of Kate flickered through his mind for a moment and he silently decided he would call home the moment he got the chance.

"wow, can you play something then?" emma asks, eyes drawing towards the guitar that yami had set aside. he must be a pretty good musician to be on the road like that. emma wanted to be one at some point, but she doesn't really have the patience for that. plus, she's going to become a trainer anyways, so there's no point in learning an instrument when shes going to spend all her time training.
she squeals as the glameow pads towards her. it's so graceful and pretty, she nearly jumps. but it's already entwined around her legs, so she doesn't want to spook it. emma bends down and scratches its body with both of her hands, practically showering the pokemon in attention and joy.
she beams as he talks -- wow, he even wanted her autograph? "oh my gosh, you're the first person who's said that! and you're so famous, too!" she says. if he believes it, then why shouldn't she? it's then that emma vows to be famous just so she can give yami an autograph. but for now, she's content with the path she's on.
"hi michiko and sai." she says, slightly mispronouncing their names. they're cool, too. the sun is starting to move, so it's probably time to go. emma stands, brushing the dirt from the ends of her dress.
"well, it looks like i have to go. can i have your autograph first?"

i wake at the first cringe of morning
and my heart's already sinned
Yami blinked at her question before looking down at his guitar, smiling in vague amusement as he patted the instrument fondly. It’d been with his through a lot, not his first guitar but it’d been his replacement for the first one he had when it was too worn to play. Nodding his head he replied warmly, “Sure can, maybe if you have some requests I could play? I’m heading over to petalburg to perform for a bit if you want to hear me play then.” It’d been a split second decision but with everything going on over there he decided that it was a good idea and it’d be good practice for when the contests started. Besides he wouldn’t mind playing for her or a huge crowd, granted he was always a little more self-conscious around just one person since their gazes were always more noticeable but that would be something he had to work on. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz as they said.
Machiko was only too happy to be showered with attention and happiness, her purring becoming louder the more she was scratched. She arched up into the girls hands, guiding her body under them so that the little girl would reach all the little places she couldn’t get to herself. Human hands were so much more useful for these things, which was the reason she’d taken Yami as her human slave when they first met. He did a good job scratching her too. She nipped playfully at the girls fingers before bumping her head against them and letting out another mewl of her name contently. This was heaven to her after all.
The brunette grinned as the little girl beamed at his words, happy that his words seemed to make her happy in turn. That was always what he aimed for with children, they were too precious after all and he couldn’t bear the thought of them being discouraged or not believing in themselves. They were their future generation, the hopefuls of what was to come and so far he liked what he could see. He had a little bit of hope for what their next generation would be like. “Well then, being the first person means I definitely expect to be the first person to get the autograph.” This time there was only a slight edge of teasing to his words, his smile slightly crooked as he tilted his head just the slightest at the girl.
He could feel the pulse of amusement down the psychic connection between him and Sei, the pokemon amused but the little girl’s mispronunciation of their name. The espurr let him know that neither of them took it to heart though, they were both aware she was just a babe in human standards. Silver eyes glanced back at his espurr to meet Sei’s gaze and felt his lips twitch in amusement at seeing the pokemon alert as he watched. At her words about departing though he blinked at looked back at her, a little caught off guard especially when she asked for his autograph. He hesitated before scratching the back of his head as he dug through his bag for a moment. “I’m not very well-known here, back home I was but…I guess if you insist.” He gave her a sideways glance for a moment before jotting a little note down and signing his name.
With a soft smile he murmured in mild amusement, “Who knows maybe if I make it to be the best Coordinator that’ll be worth even more.” It was a dream he had and could only hope would actually happen, granted he knew how much of a tough journey that was going to be. In the meantime he gave the little girl a smile as he said, “Make sure you be careful on these roads and stay safe.”
