[attr="class","ipoodle"]the night has been pretty uneventful for rory so far. well, except for the little balcony incident with cass earlier on in the night. it left him hurt, but he'll recover. but other than that nothing's really happened that's been of any interest to him.
he spent most of the night sitting alone at a table in the ballroom, drinking his sorrows away. the staff had brought him a new mask to put on. weirdly enough they brought him an arcanine mask, similar to the one he had on before. he guessed it was a popular choice amongst the guests. but he didn't put it on just yet. he left it on the table beside him as he rested his arm on it. in his other hand he held a short glass of whisky, slowly sipping away at the poison.
his eyes couldn't help but gaze around the room. the slow dance was starting soon. the tables were moved so there'd be a nice open space in the center for people to dance in. sucked how he didn't have anyone to dance with. but he felt content with just watching for now.

the deal doesn't start until thirty minutes. cass finds herself drifting from place to place, anything to waste time. it's moving too slow for cass's taste, and she needs to find a sufficient distraction before her emotions get the best of her. it's not long before a slow song starts playing. the couples instantly pull themselves onto the dance floor.
she looks on with bitterness, because that was just her and rory not more then an hour ago. cass looks around the room and finds herself making eye contact with rory. she tears her gaze away from him, because that just made things awkward and she hates it when that happens. but then something inside of her tells her to walk towards him again. her foot move of their own accord, and before long she's standing before him. "hey." she doesn't dare look at him directly. instead, her eyes trace the lines of the arcanine mask on the table.
"this might be the last time we'll get to dance." she offers it to him with a weak smile, because next time they meet they might be on opposite sides. given the luck, they probably will be. but if it's the last thing she does before she leaves for good, then cass is willing to risk everything for this moment.
[attr="class","ipoodle"]eventually his gaze was met with someone familiar. they locked eyes for a moment before she looked away. she obviously felt uncomfortable with seeing him again. things were quite awkward between them now. but it shouldn't have to be, right? he sighed and sipped away at his drink, soon placing it on the table as she walked over to him.
don't come here. he thought to himself. because one, he wasn't wearing his mask, and two, everyone could see them. but there was no stopping her. so he stayed sat there on his seat as she approached him. she couldn't look him in the eyes anymore, and that made him really sad.
"w-what are you doing?" he whispered. he stood up from his chair and reached for the arcanine mask, swinging it over his head and placing it comfortably on his face. "people will see us."
but a part of him knew she doesn't really care at this moment. and he doesn't too. this might definitely be the last opportunity for them to dance. so he shook his head and grabbed her hands, holding them as he looked at her.
[attr="class","sv3"]I hear you buzzing, a fly on the wall In through the window and up through the hall Flyin' in circles, just trying to land I see you hurting. I do what I can
But I won't save you I won't save you
Maybe you're looking for someone to blame Fightin' for air while you circle the drain Never be sorry for your little time It's not when you get there, it's always the climb
But I won't save you I won't save you
Surprisingly he's still sober. He's mingled casually hiding his eye from most of the crowd his mask coming in handy. He wears his white hat also helping cover his brand of sorts. As he sits the music takes a sudden turn into something far smoother, and even formal to a degree. He's not surprised as he watches couples move together on the floor attracted by the music and partners. The red head is lost in his own mind for now having separated from both Noah and Evan for now. A certain nervousness about the event over taking him. Some would see his suspicion unwarranted, but by all means he hadn't been able to leave earlier. He was a hostage of sorts, why he didn't know but surely it would lead to something veritably interesting at the least, thus he's decided to let the dice fall as their played. It's for this reason that he's not drunk off his ass either, lest he'd end up unprepared for the big reveal whatever that may be.
Instead he decides to play the game walking out on the floor finding a familiar face who he'd promised a dance with earlier that afternoon. He slides up to the woman removing his hat, and offering a short bow. "I believe i'd be making one of the biggest mistakes of my life if I didn't at least ask for a dance Miss." He offers his hand now, a clever smirk on his face, "And so, may I take this dance?"
When the slow music began playing from the top floors the green haired trainer didn't expect to be joining in for such a thing. All the dancing she was used to was when she was a child was pretend dancing with her brothers standing on her feet as she twirled them around like a ballet. Formal balls were much different than her childhood memories. Besides she was still suspicious of this entire ordeal, only finding herself staying along for the ride. Right as she was going to turn away from the stairs that led to the top floors she was stopped by a familiar voice. "I should have known," she murmured as she saw the male bowing and offering a hand to her. Classy. A smile danced on her lips as she gave a nod. After all that had happened with mixed up identities and fights this was the least that she could do.
Placing her hand gingerly onto his, she allowed Miles to lead them upstairs towards the dance floor. Letting the other lead couldn't be so bad right? The delicate ballads that waltzed around the room was alluring. The room was decorated well and only one other two was out on the dance floor. She wouldn't admit that she didn't know exactly how this type of thing worked. She figured that she could piece it together once Miles attempted to get into the proper position. With interlocked hands and her other on his shoulder, right? "I'm shocked that you're still here. Not worried about keeping an eye on Evan and Noah after what happened?"

Dylan eye's widdened a bit, did his ears deceive him? Was this actually happening? Did a Slow Dance song actually come on? "Well I guess it's time to figure out of she would dance with me. . ." Dylan thought to himself, he smiled and silently took in a big breath. "You can do it, just ask her. Just do it. What's the worse that could happen? She wouldn't react badly? I hope not. . ." He continued in his head, His Riolu grew impatient knowing exactly what his trainer was thinking and nudged him nodding. "Ok, yeah I can do this! I can ask her! I got this! Who's the man! Dyl's the man!" He finished and held out his hand towards Fiona, bowing slightly eyes closed.
"Would you care to dance with me, Fiona." Dylan said as calmly as possible, he smile a tiny bit and blush quite a lot. "I. . . did it. . . I DID IT! I said it! Please say yes back!" He thought, praying to Arceus she would, it was all up her her if she would take Dylan's hand and grant him this one dance tonight. His Riolu mimicked his stance towards Strawberry, he didn't mind who he was going to dance with as long as he got to dance. "Rioluu!"

I WASTED MY TIME 'TIL TIME WASTED ME
0000 words for character name notes here?
Briley sat at a one of tables nearest to the dance circle. She sipped a glass of wine idly, already buzzed from the however many glasses she had before. Some people were already stepping onto the floor, dancing together as soft classical music chimed in the background. It was romance, in every essence of the word. She kind of wished Cedric was a better dancer, so they could spend an intimate moment together without making such a scene like earlier that evening.
Taking another sip, she hummed a little bit of the tune to herself. Something about it was familiar, but not enough for her to pinpoint where from. More people were arriving, some people being asked to dance while others simply walked onto the floor without question. Briley wondered if any of the cuties from her speed dating encounters would show up and offer, but then she worried how Cedric might feel if he saw her....
Sighing quietly, Briley finished her glass and crossed her legs, tapping her delicately-manicured fingers on her knee. She at least wanted somebody to come up to her, give her a little bit of their attention or something. She spent way too much time trying to perfect her contouring techniques (and not just on her face) to not have a random hottie at least ask her to dance. It'd be a shame, really. Plus, she could be getting so many numbers right now to text and call later when she wanted a little more fun... but nothing!
Pouting just a little bit, Briley rested her cheek in her hand, watching as couples danced. Shepherd looked up to his trainer and lightly headbutted her leg in affection — the Venipede didn't like seeing her upset, even if it was over something so silly.
"It's okay, Shep," Briley sighed again, smiling down at her pokemon and scratching between his antennae. "These people just don't know what they're missing."
Shepherd nodded, his mandibles clicking in agreement.
her face immediately turns red. she felt a blush on her cheeks. in attempt to hide away from such a fuss. fiona looks away, averting her eyes elsewhere. too embarrassed to look at dylan for this moment now. his compliment was sweet, like strawberries on a red velvet cake. it was sweet. fiona was extremely nervous by now. his compliment was a nice gesture and she was sure that by now, her face was red.
yes, she was here to dance, but would it be long enough for her to actually say she was going to stay for long? fiona remains silent for a bit as she was looking away from him. it's nerve wrecking for her. utter turmoil. if she could at least speak normally to dylan she would be happy.
things then began to go for a stand still. the music then began to change. fiona glances around her, noticing how everyone was getting a partner. the song is slow, soothing to the ears. almost like... it's a slow song...those dances.. fiona looks over to dylan, he already was bowing and hold his hand out to her. she wasn't sure. hesitation inside of her heart. the girl looks over at strawberry who barks and smiles at her. right... with courage, the girl then took his hand.
"...if you would show the way..." her hand gently rested on his palm. lightly, like the first time they held hands in the magma headquarters. her heart was racing. would i felt the same way with cain...? truly, she wasn't sure.
her swirlix barked and nods towards the riolu. this was a single step for her. she had to take it.
Wow everyone sure looked extremely nice in all their fancy clothing. Maybe Risu was a bit under-dressed for this occasion. Everyone seemed to start dancing and this was something he could get behind. He couldn't just dance with a stranger though that would just be rude. His mother had the boys learn to slow dance years ago. Risu always thought he was just a better dancer than his brother all together. These two could definitely blow everyone out of the water.
He looked around for someone that looked exactly like him and grabbed him immediately. "Usa! Usa! Usagii!!! We gotta dance, there's nothing left for me to do but dance..." He began singing an old show tune to bring his brother into the mood to dance. He was excited for them to start dancing slow dancing might be awkward but they could rock some ball room dancing with ease.
Usa was quickly whisked away by Risu. This brought back bad memories of him practicing and practicing...and practicing, but never getting any better at dancing. He could still hear his mother's voice as she hummed a tune and directed with a clap: "1, 2, 3, 4 and 1, 2, 3, 4..."
"Why, Risu? You know I don't like dancing..." he wined. But, his brother was in one of those zones again, which meant no amount of complaining or objection would make him do anything other than what he wanted to do. Usa soon found himself spinning and shimmying, twirling and posing, as the two made their way around the dance floor.
For whatever reason, the thought of him dancing hand in hand with his brother in such a public forum didn't embarrass him. In fact, as the dance continued, he found himself smiling and becoming more relaxed. This was definitely what Risu did best. He made Usa smile and relax in moments when his natural impulses screamed for him to do the opposite. The moment was a good one...certainly good enough that he would make Risu's calling him "Usagi" slide.

Dylan felt like he goofed up hard, Fiona didn't even look at him when that compliment escaped his mouth, his heart sank briefly. She had a large blush on her face, total embarrassment. "Idiot, idiot, idiot." Dylan thought to himself, he tried to his best to keep his smile strong, strong for himself and Fiona. He removed his glasses from his pocket, that were there purely to make him look smarter, and placed them on. "Alright, you got this." He added inside his mind, he need all the reassurance he could get.
---
He felt the soft touch of her hand in his palm, it was a bit nostalgic of when they met in the Magma Base, Dylan had to resist the urge to cling onto her hand this time though. "Gladly." Dylan replied softly, and began to lead her to the ballroom floor, he felt like a dream just came true. Dylan led her to a spot a little off center in the room and placed his hands at her waist, looking down at her directly into her eyes. He had a visible blush and a smile spread across his face. "I'll lead if you don't mind?" After she would answer Dylan would begin, one step, two step. Riolu on the other hand quickly took Strawberry away from Fiona, not forcefully, but eagerly nonetheless. He held the Fairy type up with both hands and began swirling in circles. "Riolu!"

"i don't care." she says. it's their last dance. if people asked questions, so be it, but she'll brush it off. say she didn't recognize rory after all these years. but she does, and that's what matters. she does and she might even say that she loves him, but not enough to leave everything she'd built her life up to. an empress cannot leave her throne when they need her the most.
cass takes his hands and leads him to the floor where all the other people are dancing. she brings him right to the middle, where there's suits and dresses all around and the outside tables are hidden from sight. her face turns a light shade of pink, and she hunches her shoulders slightly. maybe she really did need to learn how to dance sometime.
"you can lead." she says, repeating that phrase that she'd said only a couple hours before. she glances at the clock. ten minutes until she leaves. it'll be the best ten minutes of her life. cass closes her eyes, trying to imprint the moment into her memory. when she opens her eyes she finds the person that she might never be able to share this moment again. and it hurts.
[attr="class","ipoodle"]he smiled when he heard her answer. so she doesn't care. she cared more about him than what people thought about them. she cared more about him than the possible consequences that could happen. but unfortunately she doesn't care about him more than magma.
the two made their way onto the middle of the dance floor where other couples surrounded them. they seemingly blended in well enough. the only odd thing there was cass' inability to dance. luckily she saw fit to let him lead as always, to which he could only smirk.
"just like always," he whispered. just like in the balcony before he placed one hand on her hip and with his other hand held hers. he started moving along with the tune. it was slow, so it was easier than earlier. or at least it should be easier for cass.
"i am too. i wish it could have been different."
he doesn't really know what to say after that. he's done. this night's been really shitty for him and he just wanted to leave. in fact he wasn't too sure why he stuck around for so long. maybe he's just hoping she would change her mind. but that's unlikely to happen. he sees that now.

This is by no means his 'scene' so to speak, Ballroom dancing wasn't exactly a skill you were able to pick up where he came from. However there were moments scattered throughout his adolescence that hey picked up something or another from his caretaker. It was a skill he'd at least somewhat gained thanks entirely to his mother despite his protests at the time. And so with his hat back on his head, he takes the girl's hand leading her the dance floor other couples uniformly moving about with the song. "Just follow my lead." He whispers as they make their way into the fancily lit area. The two interlock hands, his other reaching around her lower back. It's now the two begin to dance Miles taking the lead; a step here, a turn there and the soon the two are moving in tune.
"And leave without my dance? Hardly." He says meeting her eyes their faces far closer than they'd ever been in the past. His feet move lightly on the ground the man taking extra caution to keep a slow easy pace. He's by no means perfect or great, but he's not entirely bad either his jitters playing a large part in the quality of his performance. Regardless it's too late to retreat as the two continue dancing behind the fear he's extremely pleased he only hopes the shadow of his hat, and mask cover up the swollen eye a little more. As they move around the room carefully she mentions both Noah, and Evan he apparently having become the caretaker of the two. "They're big boys, they'll be fine for at least another five minutes." There's a soft smile on his face as the two continue to move. "So all in all has the evening been enjoyable for you thus far, I know it's had its... hick-ups, but are you having a good time?" The song is about halfway over now a certain idea playing in his head, only increasing this nervousness he has rattling his bones.
