I think you’re taking this too literally. Yami snorted rudely, rolling his eyes as he came from the Professors’ lab and agreeing to help him out with some research. His silver-gray eyes slid over and down to look at the Espurr at his side, the starter he’d gotten upon his journey. It was a great starter for him, especially since he liked psychic pokemon out of most types and then it had a rather feline quality which was another plus to him. Sei, what he’d decided to name the Espurr, had turned to be the perfect match for him seeing as the smallish pokemon had enough sass to entertain them both. In the few days he’d shared with the psychic pokemon and learning its presence in his mind, he’d grown rather fond of him. Good, I have also grown fond of you. Yami rolled his eyes once more and Sei darted away from the hand that had come to swat at him. The brunette could feel Sei’s amusement dancing along the edges of his mind and shook his head exasperatedly. “What am I going to do with you?”
Feed me, pet me, make sure any pokemon that comes along knows I was here first. Yami groaned softly and gave the Espurr a look. “You have issues.” The wave of amusement he got for that comment made it very obvious that the pokemon knew what he meant by that and found it entertaining. Seriously though it was about time for him to start on his journey or actually attempt to catch a few more pokemon considering he’d been here for a couple of days. He’d stayed in Littleroot only because Birch had asked him to help around a little but now that the Professor was allowing him free seeing as he’d promised to help collect data it was time to get a move on. The brunette watched as he stood in front of the Lab, as other people came in and out or just loitered about the area. Oldale would be next on their route and then from there it would be Petalburg where he’d need to get his first badge.
His attention was stolen when he felt Sei grasp his pants leg and he looked down to notice the pokemon watching something. Averting his attention to what the psychic type was looking at he noticed not far from where they were standing a few trainers had already begun to battle. It was rather fascinating, especially since he was still rather knew to the pokemon world. He’d lived around them most of his life and had even watched a few battles on TV but he’d never actually interacted with pokemon. It was just a little exhilarating but he managed to stay calm, eyes taking in the battle and considering it. His mother had spoken about some of the actual battle’s she’d been involved in as a Coordinator so he was actually looking forward to his first battle. Soon… Gray eyes glanced down at his pokemon to see Espurr also watched the battle still and smiled slightly. “Yeah…soon.”

There wasn't much joy to be found in battling little kids. Actually, scratch that; there was no joy to be found at all. Really, Alex could admire a kid that marched right up to him and challenged him right then and there on the spot; it took some guts to pick a battle with an older guy and even more so to call him a chicken if he turned the proposal down because 'he didn't pick on youngsters'. Like, y'know, that took more than guts. That took fuckin' balls. These snot-nosed twerps. [break][break] And anyway, next kid that came along - excited to fight everything with his new pokémon - who challenged him, Alex accepted it. Thrashed his little snubbull. Stopped himself from laughing when the kid stormed off crying. Like, fuck, man. You couldn't win, could you? [break][break] It put him in the mood for a battle with someone around his own age though. These unsupervised sugar-fuelled brats, as spunky as they were, weren't all that fun. They lacked experience and strategy, the two key points which made a battle a thousand miles more enjoyable. They even lacked common sense, these kids. Brute force wasn't always the best tactic, technique was another important factor. [break][break] Alexander had been loitering around where a few trainers had been scrapping it out, killing time while his recently acquired machop rested up for the journey to come. He rested against some rugged old stone wall with his pancham sat at his feet and sized up the passing trainers that wandered by, taking advantage of how some lingered to watch the battling going on before continuing on their way. Too old, too young... nah, too dorky-looking... bug type? Oh, please... too aggressive... that pokémon was wimpy how it cowered from the battle... huh, that guy didn't even stop to look and... that one looked prom-- wait, too slow. [break][break] The young man let his head roll back with an exaggerated groan, it was fucking killing him just standing around like this. Not to mention he must like some... sorta creep or whatever, hanging around all these hyper young things with no real purpose other than to... hang while he waited for someone to--- Ohohoho. Hello there. [break][break] Young, dashing, nice physique, alert eyes and his pokémon looked pretty fine too! It was an espurr, if he wasn't mistaken, and the pair looked pretty enthralled by the battles being disputed in the area. Alex craned his head around really quickly, to make sure no other challengers were going to stake their claim before he had a chance, and he pushed himself off against the wall. A friendly smile, one that showed just a flash of his teeth in a roguish fashion, stretched his lips and he waved to the man - who, like, huh, even had a cute, tiny ponytail thing going on - as if they were already acquaintances. [break][break] "Hey, man," Alex greeted him once he'd caught up to them, his pancham trailing closely behind on his short, scruffy legs. A spitting image of his trainer and his mop of tousled - yet styled - two-toned hair. He tilted his head slightly, the corners of his honey-brown eyes crinkling as his smile reached them. "See somethin' you like?"
We appear to have caught someone’s attention…or rather you have. Yami blinked at the whisper along his mind and looked down at Sei who was still watching the battle. However, a movement from the side caught his attention and he immediately caught on to what his pokemon had been saying. Any interest that had shown on his face earlier from the battling slowly melted away as he merely quirked an eyebrow at the approaching male. He had never seen him in his life yet he waved and smiled as though they were old friends, it irritated him a bit but he kept his mouth shut. He simply stuffed his hands in his pockets and watched the young man approach, his body only slightly tense. By this time Sei had also turned to watch the trainer and his pancham approach them, carrying the same disinterested stare his human trainer wore as he watched them.
At the other trainers greeting Yami’s other eyebrow rose before he gave the young man a long look over, his face reading unimpressed along every line. Someone needs to put a leash on him. Yami had to duck his head to hide the slight quirk of his lips at Sei’s silent remark, the pokemon chirping a little chuckle uncaring if it was heard. His eyes slid to his pokemon in a momentary exasperated look before resting on the other male once more and debating what to do. Ignoring his…remark? Question? Boldness. For now he gave the other a curious look, tilting his head just slightly as he spoke up. “Is there something you needed from me? I don’t think I know you.” Yami liked to think he was good with faces and this guy was someone he was sure he’d never seen in his life.
His eyes strayed over to the pokemon battles and narrowed the slightest before venturing back to the other male. He took in his stance and then his pokemon before quirking an eyebrow at him once more, shifting on his feet and taking his hands out of his pockets. Resting one hand on his hip as he leaned to the side slightly and questioned, “Were you also looking for a pokemon battle?” he’d probably end up having to disappoint him considering he only had Espurr and the pokemon hadn’t had time to be trained. The Pancham is a fighting type… Yami blinked before glancing down at Sei, the pokemon giving the other pokemon a considering look. We might have a chance… Yami merely made a soft noise of acknowledgement before looking back to the young man as he quipped, “It’s rude to not introduce yourself as well.”

Huh, tough crowd. If the guy's initial reaction to him was anything to go by, it seemed like he wasn't too thrilled or even mildly impressed by Alexander's sudden appearance. But that was fine; a battle was what Alex was after so he'd make sure to get straight to the point. Undaunted by the other male's less than enthusiastic reception, the smaller man continued to grin widely and brightly and gestured to the battling going on near their midst with a casual motion of his hand. [break][break] "Well, yeah," he said, a mischievously humoured tone contained within his words. "What else did you think I came over for, hm?" [break][break] Putting his pancham - a fighting type - up against a psychic type such as this person's espurr obviously wasn't the smartest thing any trainer could do. The pair looked rather novice though; if his knowledge served him right, the espurr shouldn't know any potentially damaging moves so early on. It was still a gamble though. For all he knew, the espurr might've been taught a powerful move or even innately knew of one from birth. [break][break] "I'm Alexander Torres," the shorter-haired brunette introduced himself, inclining his body a little towards the pair. He pointed at his scruffy-looking pancham who stood at his side, staring down the catlike pokémon who was possibly to be his next opponent. "Just Alex'll do. And this is Nacho, my pancham." The stoic panda gave a small nod of his head in acknowledgement of his name. [break][break] "So how about it?" Alex hummed, letting his eyes settle on the equally quiet espurr before travelling back to its comely trainer. He tilted his head a little, his grin fading down to a friendly and softer smile. "Fancy a little battle? A one on one between just us two?"
