It was another lonely day out in the pokemon-infested areas of Hoenn region, this time Sylvester finding himself in Route 104 and looking for these so called inhabitants, However yet again they all seemed to bypass the pokemon trainer who had been searching for them, bringing Sylvester just before the entrance to Petalburg Woods.
Near his position were the docks connected to a local captain's shack, a man known to give trainers rides to the destinations they needed to travel to and from. Deciding against it, however, Sylvester sat on a bench constructed nearby out of nothing but wood, setting his backpack and the pokemon egg inside on his lap. Closing his eyes, he leaned back and waited to fall asleep, or for someone to interrupt his doing so. Please for the love of pokemon, don't let it be Darius Valentine.

Fidel frowned and folded her arms as she looked upon the shallow coast. She... where did Magikarp go? She let it out for a bit of swimming time while she made a few sand castles on the beach. She swear she kept a good eye on it, but it seemed that her Pokemon went a bit deep into the water. Suddenly, a flash of orange appeared in the peripheral of her vision, and for the briefest moment, she saw her subpar Pokemon jump fifty feet into the air.[break][break]
What?[break][break]
As a result, o large vulgar grown man was there to wake Sylvester. Instead, a Magikarp had splashed out of the nearby ocean water and landed with a loud, wet, flesh-slapping splash next to him. This one wasn't a wild Magikarp, however; instead of bouncing around for dear life, it just twitched a bit and seemed to be in control of itself. Well, as in control as a Magikarp could be. Which wasn't much.[break][break]
"Hey, Magikarp!" Subsequently, a small preteen came scurrying up the coast, jogging towards the good captain's shack. Her eyes were full of pleasant surprise. Man, if Magikarp could jump that high, then maybe they were doing good training, huh? Still, she had to figure out where it landed. She thinks it was... somewhere around... Her eyes widened and she gave a small smile when she saw that familiar orange carp.[break][break]
Oh, Magikarp landed near a man. He... looked kind of tired. Did she disturb somebody's sleep again? She really shouldn't make a habit out of that, she really shouldn't. Addressing the almost-sleeping person, she gave a small apology. "Sorry about that. Lemme get my Magikarp out of the way..." And so she withdrew her carp. Was he a Pokemon Trainer? Judging by the size of his backpack, he was certainly equipped for it. Then again, he could be a breeder or a coordinator.

"W-what?!"'Just my luck...' As soon as Sylvester was about to get some rest, something landed on the bench next to him, making further movements afterwards. "A magi...karp?"'That explains why I thought I heard a splash prior to it's landing'
While he thought it was wild, and was about to lob his pokeball at it, Sylvester noticed a young girl approaching him—apologizing for the disturbance. "Oh, so it's your pokemon then. Do they...do they do that often?" It was actually really weird for Sylvester to imagine this thing getting airborne long enough to manage landing next to him on the bench, let alone the odds of it's trajectory revealing the precision to make it's mark on the bench. It couldn't have been intentional, as the pokemon seemed a little foolish for all that. "It's no big deal, though, I shouldn't be sleeping right now anyway. Do you happen to be a trainer?"

"Not really, no." She said, scratching the back of her head. To be honest, she didn't know Magikarp could do that ever. Maybe it was one of the effects of actually being in the water? In that case, water Pokemon must be amazing! She should probably find more bodies of water to use to her advantage... not that she wasn't already. Fidel mentally noted that down.[break][break] "Oh, yeah, I'm a trainer. Fidel Bolivar, nice to meet you." Fidel nodded in introduction. She wasn't quite as energetic as kids her age, she knew that. Sometimes she thought she was just weird. Or maybe she was just a sad person. Though, wasn't she a bit young to be a sad person? Eh, maybe not. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. She exercised her conversational abilities she learned from her friend she met on Route 101. "My goal is to have an adventure, as simple as it sounds. Why, do you want to battle?"
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jun 26, 2015 22:07:10 GMT
"Nice to meet you, I'm Sylvester." He noted how Fidel mentioned that the Magikarp normally didn't behave like that. "That is kind of...weird." Trying to get his mind off of it, however, Sylvester listened as she inquired if he was looking for a battle.
"No, not really. I was just curious, is all. You're pretty young, but you have a pokemon so I thought I would ask. You didn't want to battle, did you?" Hopefully not, because if her only pokemon was a Magikarp, than the battle wouldn't likely turn out in her favor. "Having an adventure sounds nice, though. I never really thought about becoming a trainer for that reason, but it's definitely a good one." Grabbing his backpack and setting it on his lap, Sylvester slung it around his shoulder before he scooted over. "You can sit, if you'd like. Though if you were looking to battle, we can get that out of the way first." Patiently waiting for her response, Sylvester twiddled his finger in the mean time.

■ what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Fidel started frowning a little. 'You didn't want a battle, did you?' She felt like he was implying that it was a bad idea to battle with Magikarp. Which it was, to be fair, but she still had the right to feel a little offended by that. Trying not to show it too much outwardly, she tactfully gave an affirmative. "Yeah, I'd like to battle first." Reaching her hand into her pocket, she pulled out Magikarp's Poke Ball.[break][break]
She did have to request a few set rules, though. "One on one, with your weakest Pokemon, please. I, uh... I'm sure you can imagine what it's like, training a Magikarp." She said. As before every battle, her expression steeled into competitive solidarity, and she had a strong grip on her Poke Ball. Like she had something to prove for herself.[break][break]
"Alright, let's go." And so Magikarp flopped out onto the open road, awaiting orders. "We're gonna try surviving again, got it Magikarp?" Magikarp gave a rather pathetic cry, but it was a positive response nonetheless. If you were to look deep into Fidel's eyes, there was something there that was clear. She wasn't going to win. She knew she wasn't going to win. [break][break]And yet she battled.
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jun 26, 2015 23:48:38 GMT
"My weakest pokemon?" Thinking about her proposal, Sylvester reached in and grabbed a pokeball containing his most recent catch, lobbing it out before them as the grass type pokemon came out. "Shroom, Shroom!" Settling the pokeball back into his coat pocket, he gazed towards his opponent with a curiosity in his eyes.
"...Is something wrong?" Looking between Fidel and her pokemon, he could tell she already felt defeated. He had heard about how Magikarp wasn't exactly the most desirable pokemon for battle, but it did in fact evolve into one of the most fierce water type pokemon known to the world of pokemon. He pondered for a moment on the matter. "Is it something I said? I'm sorry if it was."
"...I'm not going to win, we both know this." Her tone was hollow. Factual. But suddenly, after that statement, Fidel became a bit more fierce. Her eyes burned as bright as a bonfire, and her face became that right shade of anger that said she would fight the world with her bare hands. Sure, she was defeated, but she was NEVER gonna go down without a fight![break][break]
"But I'm not giving up! Magikarp, use Splash!" Her command was like that of a warrior on their last legs. It shouldn't have fit on such a petite brunette, but somehow, it did. Magikarp, faithful as ever, used every fiber of it's miniscule strength to use Splash. The result was a bounding leap, it's orange body flipping over Shroomish in spectacular fashion. Of course, it did nothing, but it was still rather charming to look at.[break][break]
Magikarp leaped once more, doing yet another flip over Shroomish. Fidel really didn't know that Splash could be used like this, but apparently, it was so. No damage, no effects. None needed! All Magikarp had to do was jump, and that's all Fidel wanted. Her face locked into complete focus on the match, she kept an eye on the smallest speck of dust that came near Magikarp.

"If you say so..." Truthfully, Sylvester did know Magikarp to be a relatively weak pokemon. Yet, there was so much potential—just the same as there was so much potential for Fidel, who seemed to be strengthened in the face of defeat. Watching her command the Magikarp, it's response was rather reassuring, inclined to at least act upon her command.
However...the results of her attacks were not all that impressive. It appeared her Magikarp had yet to learn how to attack, and so perhaps she was right—her loss to Sylvester had already been sealed, no matter what pokemon he used. But she had the guts to fight irregardless, something he admired from a girl as young as she. "Daisy, use absorb!" The Shroomish now took action, targeting the Magikarp and attempting to take away some of it's vitality. "Don't stop, follow up with another absorb!" After giving his Shroomish further commands, he looked at Fidel's Magikarp and awaited it's response to the attack.

Magikarp avoided the first attack easily, flopping away from the Shroomish a few feet away. The grass type attack missed the fish by a few inches. However, the Shroomish had advanced a few feet quickly and landed the second attack perfectly, causing Magikarp to take damage before it had the chance to flop away. It seemed there was a delay time between each flop.[break][break]
Fidel looked on with bated breath. Her foot shifted in the dirt. It was rather sandy. Loose. Made sense, since they were near the beach... maybe she could... "Magikarp, use Splash to move around the other Pokemon!" Magikarp followed it's orders to a par, making a square shape in the pattern it was flopping around Daisy in.[break][break]
If the girl was right, then it should work like a playground sandbox. By thrashing about in the sandy dirt, then... suddenly, a small dust cloud started forming around the Shroomish. Both were visible, but it was getting annoying to breathe and the air was getting filled with sand particles. "Alright, good!" If this kept up, then Fidel guessed that she could buy Magikarp a bit more time by making it hard to see. That is, if Magikarp even had time to keep it up.

The tactic Fidel employed was admirable, although Sylvester was sure it would not make too much of a difference in their battle. Yet it was still impressive. Allowing Shroomish to stand her ground, all that could really be done was to continue his assault against the opponent. "Daisy, use absorb once more!" Taking aim for the brightly colored fish that flopped around, his pokemon responded to his commands now without hesitation. That was a good sign, or at least Sylvester felt as much.
"Daisy, watch the pattern and strike where Magikarp's about to land! Use absorb on him again!" Hoping that the Shroomish was a quick learner, as it seemed to be the case, Sylvester waited to see if the Magikarp were to be hit. Knowing all too well that water type pokemon had a weakness against grass types, he knew the match could not last for very long if he could continue to get in some attacks. Though he worried that may be easier said than done.
Effect Spore - Lv.05 - Healthy Shroomish used Absorb! Shroomish used Absorb!
The first absorb missed. With the dust clouding up and Magikarp splashing as quickly as it was, the Shroomish had missed it's chance by a long shot and absorbed nothing but thin air. Fidel smiled at this turn of events, but tensed up once more as the second Absorb hit, causing Magikarp to go into low health.[break][break]
As it was, Magikarp was splashing in the four corners of a square, that much was true. However, it was the same four corners, and the Shroomish had caught onto the shape quickly. When Magikarp was ready to land on one of the corners, an Absorb hit it spot on. Magikarp instinctively flopped high into the air, as a response.[break][break]
Still, Fidel was impressed. Her Magikarp was becoming strong, so much stronger than she anticipated. Before, it was a floundering mess of a Pokemon. Now? ...It was still a floundering mess of a Pokemon, but it could survive more than five seconds in a battle, which was amazing, by Magikarp standards.

Noticing the Magikarp wincing and flinging itself into the air as a response from his Shroomish's attack, Sylvester took it as a sign that the odds of this battle were no undoubtedly in his favor. With the Magikarp left unable to attack, he had to assume the offensive, sending his Shroomish in to deal another devastating blow.
"Daisy, keep using absorb!" Now that the sand had begun to start settling, his Shroomish was able to see more clearly the target that it was trying to acquire in it's sights. With little delay Sylvester's pokemon began attacking the opposing Magikarp once more, looking to Fidel and wondering about her current thoughts. "Don't relent Daisy, keep it coming!" Just how soon would this battle be over?
Effect Spore - Lv.05 - Healthy Shroomish used Absorb! Shroomish used Absorb!
Magikarp went down before it could hit the ground. The Absorb caught the carp in the middle of the air, and since it was so low on health, it had landed on the ground with a dead thump. Fidel looked at her Pokemon with a somber expression, recalling Magikarp with seemingly no joy as the battle ended. One doesn't celebrate injury, after all.[break][break]
What one did celebrate, however, was progress. You always celebrate progress. "Thank you for the battle, sir." She said, her solemn atmosphere developing a distinct appreciation for his time and effort. She gave a small smile to the older man, despite her crushing defeat. Something about it seemed older than it should be, but that could be a trick of the eye.[break][break]
"I know it was probably a huge waste of your time. Sorry about that." Fidel apologized, giving a small bow as if it was an acknowledgement of some sin concerning pragmatism. She knew battles with her cost somebody a few minutes that could probably have been spent doing better things, and so she felt the need to say sorry for taking up time.
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jun 28, 2015 5:33:34 GMT
Acknowledging the Magikarp's plumemt to the ground with no further signs of consciousness, Sylvester swiftly allowed Daisy to return to her pokeball, where she could be content with some rest after her first battle. While it was a complete landslide in his pokemon's favor, Sylvester knew that was only because Fidel's pokemon could not attack. "You're welcome, miss." He spared a nod, almost as if bowing his head lightly.
"Don't be sorry, that was a better use of my time than sleeping on some bench. I'm the one who should be sorry. It's not really fair if your pokemon can't really fight back yet." Trying not to dampen her mood or worsen any potentially hard feeling between them, Sylvester pocketed his pokeball and made light of her pokemon's potential. "Well, Magikarp still has plenty of room for growth. Maybe one day when he evolves, we'll have another battle? I'm sure it would be quite the challenge." Hoping that Fidel would accept, Sylvester looked at his watch to discern the time. "Huh...it's later than I thought."
Moving over to his backpack, Sylvester slung it over his shoulder before turning back to Fidel. With all of his things together, it was about time he got going through Petalburg Woods. "Well, I hate to say it but I am sort of in a hurry. It was nice meeting you, but I need to go. Hope to see you again, until then keep up the training for your Magikarp for me. I'm looking forward to our rematch." With that, Sylvester gently smiled and waved her off, turning on heel and swiftly heading into the thick forest of Petalburg Woods.
