hello calamity! we're nearing the two months mark in a few weeks. how time flies! right now we have two things going on that need your participation. the first is an activity check! it is impotant that you check in so you don't lose your face claim. the second is the otm nomiations! we're doing it a bit different than last time. so please submit your nominations in. a vote thread will be up in the next few days. there will also be a formal event coming very soon, so keep your eye out for that. keep being cool!
we're currently about to host calamity's first contest in slatepor. trainers are flocking to the city to see, the city's been trying to get good pr since the gala, and it seems to be working! they're asking for both coordinators and volunteer judges to sign up.

in this formal we have a speed dating event, where people are going to get to know each other -- but in a speed that maximizes their time. there will be 3 rounds of speed dating, each round will last about 5 minutes! when the whistle blows you will move to your designated table to meet your next date. keep your pokemon close, keep your dates closer! please enjoy!

After the disaster that had been the first room, Julius was glad to get away from the annoying twelve year old and back into a realm of decent adults. For the most part. He tried to catch Andrea's eye, but she seemed to be pissed off more than usual, and he decided matters could wait. He followed instructions and found himself sitting at a table with a pretty blonde girl, somewhat reminiscent of the time he had been at a bar with the magma goon who had named himself Eli.
He looked at the girl with a practiced, confident smile.
"Hey," he said, a hand quickly taking its position in the air.
"Night's been pretty crazy, huh?" he asked, giving a friendly smile. As friendly as you could be when you were wearing a masquerade mask and had a hyper active pikachu literally wrestling against its forced on bow-tie on your shoulder. It was a rough night for everyone, and the usually hyper active and hyper social Zwei was now angrily attempting to bite at his attire. Which was either unnoticed or ignored by Julius.
Usa shook his head in agreement as he listened to Dylan speak. There really wasn't much to do other than talk to people, eat food and maybe dance. For whatever reason, this made him feel more at ease. There was no huge expectation that he had to live up to. All he had to do was relax and converse with others, much like what he was doing now with Dylan.
As soon as he opened his mouth to respond to Dylan's comments, a bell went off. This was a signal that this portion of the speed dating event was over. Just as he had gotten comfortable with talking to Dylan too. He shrugged and then stood up. After exchanging pleasantries with Dylan, he made his way to the other area. A new room with some new people...and some of the same people from before. Usa checked the list of names to see who his partner was. He took note of the fact that both Dylan and his brother were in the room too. After confirming who his partner would be, he quickly took a seat at the assigned table. Absol followed suit by laying next to Usa's feet.
the first round of speed dating had been a disaster. when nori first entered the room, he had turned around and walk right back out. instead he was practically shoved into the room and forced to watch the entire gala turn into a final battle. he had missed the vase throwing incident but he was there to hear the yelling and accusations being thrown in every direction. his previous date had took one look and ditched to stand by the door. he couldn't exactly blame him for it. the moment his date left he immediately ran to a corner of the room where no one would bother him.
he had texted his sister multiple times and was basically yelling at her the events that were going on. his text probably didn't get through and he was sure she was distracted by her own date. at one point of the night, he was almost certain he heard her screaming from the other room but it could have been his imagination. either way when the doors opened he raced out but was caught and forced into another room. he didn't even have time to find his sister.
nori adjusted the mask on his face and went to sit at his designated table, reluctant to even begin another round. he saw the familiar masks that had been in the previous room and could only hope that now that everyone was split up again, things will turn out okay. then again he had no hopes for this gala to begin with. after sitting down and turning to look at his date, he managed an awkward wave and smile. "um...hi."

Bunny returned to a table, the shattered vase still scattered on the ground. The next round hat started, and some people were filtering into and outside of the room to continue the whole speed dating service. She awkwardly left Andrea's side, glancing back at her often to check and see if she was alright. She had told her to call or wave if she needed any more help, and Bunny would probably ditch any cute person at her table just to make sure the other girl was feeling okay.
Finding her original table, Bunny scooped up her Buneary mask and then tiptoed to her new table. After sitting down, she awkwardly fixed her long hair. It was kind of weird not having it in her twin buns, like usual.
Diana, her Dratini, slithered up beside her with a questioning mewl. Cracking a small smile, Bunny picked her pokemon up and placed her lightly on her lap, giving the dratini soothing pets as she looked over in Andrea's direction.
But then she found remembered her new date, and looked at him with a bewildered sort of embarrassed face. "Oh my gosh," she said quietly, "I'm so sorry, this has been a disaster. But, um, I'm Bunny Beckett."

Penelope stood and strolled over to her next partner, waving goodbye to William. It was interesting how he had asked about her past, but she wouldn't have delved into too much information anyway. She wasn't the sharing type, and it only seemed to provide information to people she didn't really want information spilled to.
Once she had sat down, she crossed her legs and smiled at Julius, raising her eyebrows. "Hi there." She itched under her mask and shrugged her shoulders, glancing around the room. "I really haven't been giving it much thought... I suppose it is rather crazy. I'm waiting for someone to show up, but... He doesn't seem to be coming." Penelope frowned slightly, rubbing at her shoulder before smiling at Julius, the mask on her face lifting slightly as her cheeks pushed it up.
"I guess I'll just have to enjoy myself with you. How's your night so far? Meet anyone special?" Penelope laughed gently. It was pretty clear that she was trying to make herself have a good time, despite Elijah not being where he said he would, at an event that he said his father was funding part of. "Or has tonight been a bit of a bust?
[attr=class,ashes]he found that he's still staying in the same room. there's a rush of people going to and fro from the place. the atmosphere is...tense. it's strangely quiet despite the crowd of people. maybe some of them were trying to register what just happened, because there's no other way a speed dating event could go so wrong. cain, an innocent bystander, has given some of his thai food to the few people who accepted his offer in that mess.
he sits himself on the table, waiting for his next date. he'd gotten leah before, which is either a mistake in the system or fate trying to be cruel to him once again. he stil had a slight crush on her, even after all these years...cain shakes his head. there's no chance that they'll ever get together. he's not going to worry about that right now. that's the whole reason why he signed up for this speed dating event in the first place.
his murkrow pecks at his head from his perched position, cawing at his slumped shoulders and far off look. cain straightens his back and sits up. oh yeah, girls like good posture, right? his date slides into the seat from across from him. she looks barely out of high school. a little like him, actually. cain smiles at her and waves with his hand.
"nice to meet you bunny. my name's cain." he says. he distantly remembers her trying to help that girl out -- the one got smacked with a vase. he doesn't really know what happened since he was late, but he can assume.
There was optimism in her heart, always had been and (she guessed) always would be. The first round hadn’t ended like she hoped but the possibility to redo it was still there, just hanging around to be caught if the boy wanted; but for now that wasn’t her priority. When she entered the second room her footing halted at the door, catching her off guard when her eyes caught sight of shattered pottery, a mess a top tables and a girl laying on the floor -- and silently she wondered what had happened in here. If she had thought her little stunt was bad this must have been far worse. At least I’m not the only one having a bad night, she thought, a small laugh at her thought coming from her grinning lips as she continued forward to her designated table.
She wasn’t sure who her date was as of yet, and as she made it towards her table her eyes sought out a familiar masked presence within the room. Her brother hadn’t moved from his original spot and when her eyes catch that figure she could point out anywhere, even all dolled up with his face hidden from view, her grin turned to that of a large smile. The fingers once latched onto her Pokemons horn loosened, rose with her arm as she waved excitedly at her younger brother seated across the room. If she could she would have yelled his name and given him a reassuring wink or thumbs up, but sadly, one outburst for the night was enough.
As she made it to the table she smiled to her date, sitting down in her seat before glancing over to her Heracross who -- without the presence of that pesky Scizor -- sat without any noise or rebuttal on the change of rooms. “Hello there,” she chirped, giving a short wave to her next date -- a girl by the name of Leah if she heard correctly, “it looks like everyone had quite an adventure in this room last round.” Her eyes averted away from the girl to the other tables set, namely the one with the scattered pieces of ceramic laid about the floor.

i wake at the first cringe of morning
and my heart's already sinned
Well before he was even finished in the conversation with the kid there was a ringing that signaled the round was over and they were to be going on to their next partner. Yami watched as people got up and changed seats, some even changing rooms as they were ushered out. His gunmetal colored eyes scanned the crowd for Kristmar’s familiar head of blonde hair, peeking over a few to try and catch a glimpse. Some part of him wanting to at least say hi or something but soon enough he was being ushered out to another room where he noticed different people. Casually he checked where his table number was before walking towards it, discreetly looking about to see if he saw Kristmar again. However, with no sight of the other older male Yami let out a discreet breath in disappointment and attempted to brush the emotion away. They’d seen each other in the gala, they’d spoken…maybe they’d see each other again…later. He chewed on his lower lip for a moment before pushing the thoughts away and focusing on what he was supposed to be.
There were a few faces he recognized from the other room that had moved here but the rest were those he couldn’t actually place. He made a low noise in the back of his throat as he slid into his seat, vaguely noticing someone was already there. Steel colored eyes finally drifted to his date and he did a double take, his mouth opening for a moment before closing with an audible click. After a second he gave the blonde haired male a perplexed look as he pointed towards the doors, “Didn’t I just sit with you in the other room??” Granted there was something just a little different about the blonde haired male across from him but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was just quite yet. It was an odd thing, especially when his eyes fell to the pokemon at his side and Machiko wrinkled her nose at the very different scent this human gave off. Her small nose twitching curiously at the Absol as the Glameow tried to figure out what was going on.
Round two electric boogaloo huh? Risu looked around and arrived to his seat before his partner originally. He twiddled his thumbs holding onto his thoughts on when his dating food would arrive. He could hear the cries of the others in the room eating, he really wanted more food in all honesty. That was until his new partner came towards him. He poked his mask back up as if they were his glasses and waved his hand.
"Hey! I am Risu Keji! Also do you know when this dating food comes out?" He questioned then moved his fingers like he was pinching something out of the air. "It looks like a prune if that helps I think..." He looked towards the man before him who had green hair, his masked looked pretty cool actually. "So how do you do?" A grin went across his whole face it looked so innocent even coming from a fifteen year old. Maybe not telling him what dating really is would be for the best.
Usa could hear his Risu's voice coming from the other side of the room. "Dating food?" He thought as he slowly turned to look in his brother's direction. "What is he talking about?" What Usa saw sent a chill down his spine. "That hand gesture...it couldn't be..." Usa planted his face in his palm to hide from the shame. "Does he think dating is a..." Risu's words confirmed his fear. "He thinks dating is a food..." He sat upright with a dumbfounded look on his face. "Why...why would you think that? We're suppose to be equal in our studies...".
Usa slowly turned back around. To his surprise, his "date" was already there, staring at him rather perplexedly. "Umm..." Usa muttered as he slowly mustered an awkward smile. "You might be mistaking me with him..." He slowly lifted his hand and pointed in the direction of his brother. "Don't worry, unlike him, I know what dating is". He glanced down at his Absol which, by now, stood upright as it watched Glameow curiously.

Oh…well that wasn’t awkward at all. His eyes followed to where this blonde was pointing and noticed that yes…yes that was definitely the blonde he’d been talking to in the other room. A crooked grin curled Yami’s lips and his gunmetal eyes fell on this blonde, noting the similarities in visuals while persona seemed entirely on different scales. He chuckled lightly at the blonde’s words and shook his head, “Nah, its fine. He was pretty interesting to talk to.” He reclined back in his seat, loosening his hold on Machiko who wriggled from his grasp a bit and carefully maneuvered herself in his lap to get a closer look at this pokemon. She’d never seen one like it before and her ears twitched as she tried to get as much sensory information about it. In the meantime, Yami let the crooked grin warm into a friendly smile as he offered up a hand to shake. “Well in any case, I’m Kurayami but please call me Yami.” Kurayami tended to be a mouthful for people who weren’t familiar with the origin of his name so it was simply easier to leave it at Yami.
He gave the blonde a once over as he tilted his head to the side curiously, raven colored bangs falling into his sight before he pushed them away. “So Mr. I know what a date is…What’s your name?” His tone had the barest hint of tease in it while his posture was completely relaxed as he watched the room around him. His eyes once again landing on the other blonde male and his eyes fell back to his date as he asked curiously but playfully, “I’m going to take a wild guess and say…twin?”
Machiko, finally satisfied with what she scented and heard allowed the barest twirl of her tail as she purred a greeting to the other human’s pokemon. Her eyes flickering to the human male across from Yami for a moment before she sat primly in her own human’s lap, content with just watching and being petted. She kept one ear turned towards the pokemon though, curiosity still brimming just under the surface as she kept some attention trained on it.

Bunny didn't even notice how her date had been slumped over, finding herself much too distracted with watching Andrea across the room. After shaking her head, she looked back to her date with vague eyes.
"What? Oh! Cain! That's a nice name. It's good to meet you, too." She chewed on the side of her cheek for a few seconds before continuing, "I'm sorry I've been distant, that's not very fair to you, is it? We don't even have that much more time...."
Bunny moved a piece of hair out of her eyes, looking down to Diana in her lap and then back to Cain. She really needed to put effort into this conversation, the last thing she wanted was to ruin somebody's experience. "Yeah, I'm fine, just a little shooken up. Is that a Murkrow?" she asked curiously, peering at the pokemon. "Well, I mean, I know it's a Murkrow, but I don't think I've seen one yet in Hoenn! How'd you meet them?"
Bunny quietly hoped that if they started talking about pokemon, maybe they would start talking more (and maybe she would get distracted, too.)
why was he here again? he wasn't looking for anyone in the slightest and speed dating to him was one of the worst things anyone could find someone. maybe if they were looking for a quick hook up with no attachments but other than that, he couldn't fathom how anyone could find someone to date within a span of five minutes. he only signed up cause his sister thought it would be good for him to meet new people and socialize. but instead all he got was batman vs. superman as two of the attendees got a little physical for whatever reason. it had been a disaster and he had zero hope for the evening turning out better in the end. no one from the staff of the gala had decided to stop them and basically locked everyone in the room until their five minutes were up. what kind of gala were they running? did they want to get sued?
his next date seemed to look the reasonable sort and he was hoping this round would tend out to be better than the last. the boy in front of him did not look too much younger than him and didn't look to be bothered by what was happening. "dating food?" nori was curious about what risu meant by dating food. did he mean the food at the gala? he didn't really see any food that looked prune shaped either. maybe it was a special dessert that would be served later. "um i don't know anything about dating food..."
nori's hands fidgeted on the table as he glanced at the table of food to see what the male was talking about. nope, still no prune shaped foods. "oh and i'm nori ferris." his sisters words were to have fun and talk so it couldn't hurt to try. "i could go help you find the food you are looking for if you want. maybe they haven't brought it out yet?"
"Usa", the young trainer responded, "Nice to meet you, Yami". He combed a bit of his short blonde hair behind his ear as he flashed a smile. He quickly dropped his gaze to the table in an attempt to avoid Yami's stare, however. The man's eyes were intense, and they made Usa feel nervous. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It was just an odd sensation that was unusual to him.
He popped his head up momentarily to respond to Yami's question. After nodding to indicate that they were indeed twins, he returned his gaze to the table. Usa's heart raced as he imagined the man's intense eyes scrutinizing his every movement.
He made patterns on the table with his index finger, every so often glancing up at the man and smiling. The confidence he had built with his previous date had melted away under the gunmetal shaded gaze of his current date. But, Usa didn't want to be perceived as the shy timid type. He bit on his lip, hoping that that would motivate him to say something. It did. "So, how is your night so far" he asked in a rather gentle tone.
