After managing to make it to Dewford, Sylvester began to realize just how quickly the pokemon began to seem stronger from one area to the next. It was odd, how the area they inhabited seemed to have such an effect on their potential. That or...
'Maybe it's just that they encountered the stronger trainers who came through after defeating the other gyms?' It was a thought to consider, though Sylvester didn't have much time for that. Instead, he waited at the beginning of this route for an old friend. Well, an acquaintance. A coordinator who went by the name Kris.
POKENAV TEXT
Waiting where he was, Sylvester sat upon a carved boulder that looked much more like a bench. It was a real work of art, the way the hand-rests and such were done with fine detail. Not only that, but the cuts were neat and smooth. Someone put a lot of work into transforming this stone into a place to sit, and it was sad to think that there was no plaque to say who made it, or what it was in memory of...
Fortunately, Sylvester would not be there to indulge in the seat for much longer. It had been roughly thirty minutes to an hour since he had arrived here, and even longer since he had sent that text. 'Hopefully Kris will get here soon...I am bored...'

Leaving someone waiting for... over an hour wasn't... that bad, was it? Especially if it was an arrangement made out of the blue, right? It was probably cheeky, yes, answering to the proposal of a friendly battle with an almost immediate 'sure, i'll head over now!' and then leave the poor guy waiting for a short eternity. In his defense... the boat ride from Slateport to Dewford had taken longer than expected.
Kristmar just hoped that Sylvester, an acquaintance he'd made while he'd been selling his wares, was still there and this rushed and impromptu trip hadn't been in vain.
Sören, his churlish glameow, mrowled in distaste for being jostled so much in his trainer's arms as the man walked at a brisk pace. His finicky feline companion had been given the choice of being out or being returned to his pokéball but this was what he'd chosen. And yet the displeased cat had the gall to complain anyway. Now that the neglected glameow had gained a bit of trust and confidence, Kris was quickly discovering what a... typically catty personality he had and how easily spoiled he was.
"Just... hold on a little longer, Sören," he murmured to the surly glameow, squinting slightly as he clung on with his claws which were sharp enough to pass through the thin material of his shirt. "Alright, alright."
Reaching the route, the blonde slowed down to catch his breath a little and scan the immediate area for any signs of Sylvester. Thankfully, with a slight sigh of relief, he spotted him. He was still here. Thank fuck. Kris' sanguine eyes slid closed for a brief moment as he exhaled and made a beeline towards him.
"Hey, Syl," he chimed with a growing smile that held a note of awkwardness. "I didn't... keep you waiting too long, did I?"

Standing up once Kris was within view, Sylvester patted away the residual sand lingering on his trench coat from the stone bench that rest within the sandy terrain. "No, not really. At least you came." Reaching in towards his pokeballs, Sylvester plucked one out and presented it towards Kris before tapping the button for it to enlarge in his hand. "You ready to battle?" He summoned his choice pokemon before Kris could give an answer.
"I'll be using Kseniya, my Honedge. You might as well take the advantage of knowing which pokemon I will use." He wasn't sure how strong Kris' pokemon were, and to be perfectly honest he just wanted to train his Honedge. After learning more about his pokemon, Sylvester was very intrigued with finding out more about the dual type of ghost and steel. It was said that kings were guarded by the final evolution of this particular pokemon. He could only hope it lived up to it's rep...

Huh, so the guy said he hadn't left him waiting too long but he certainly seemed eager to start. Kris would've liked, maybe, a second to sit down but it seemed like he wasn't going to have even the chance. He gave a wavering sigh and nodded a little, passing his sulking glameow into one arm so he could reach for his belt where his pokéballs were attached. The cat draped himself limply over the coordinator's arm, his expression filled with annoyance and churlishness, and his tail twitched idly, uncurled and loose as it even touched the floor.
"Well... I'm rarely one who doesn't take the chance of getting a type advantage anyway," he admitted with a little smirk, plucking his first choice from his belt and releasing it onto the sand. Deimos would be an adequate choice of opponent for something like a honedge. The dual type wasn't one of Kris' favourites but, he'd hand it to Sylvester, this one had a nice name, at least.
"Start a sandstorm, Dei!" Kris ordered without missing a beat, tucking his glameow protectively against his chest to shield it from the sand that would soon be raging past on ferocious winds. Sandstorm had no effect on steel types, that much Kris knew, but this gible was made for such environments. Immediately, it'd be observable how the dragon's movements suddenly became more fluid and swifter. "And now fire blast!"
The dragon gave an enthusiastic cry as powerful flames were conjured up. The heat was stifling and Kris squinted as he stole a step backwards, out of reach of both the gritty winds and the fire attack's temperature.

It seemed Kris was intent on winning this one, and Sylvester could only help but smirk as he kicked up a sandstorm. 'Just like Darius and his Gible.' Though, soon after he realized that this would not exactly be the same as dealing with Darius' own pokemon. 'Wait what...a fire blast!?'
A surge of fire chased forth with great haste. "Kseniya, dodge that!" Narrowly escaping the attack, even Sylvester, who stood behind his pokemon a ways back, had to step to his side swiftly in order to avoid being caught in the crossfire. "Swords dance!" The Honedge began to produce apparitions which circled about, raising the pokemon's attack drastically. "Now use shadow claw!" However, Sylvester knew what was likely to follow. Kris was well informed, and the sandstorm he kicked up was a wise precaution. Sylvester realized that he was in for it now, as this was the perfect terrain for his talented Gible...

Alright, so, that fire blast had been a hasty move to use as an opener and, when it was swiftly dodged, Kris wasn't too surprised. He wasn't too disappointed either. He had more moves at his disposal than just that.
The pint-sized land shark was in his element right now; his evasion had been heightened to formidable lengths with the sandstorm that continued howling aggressively. Deimos darted out of the way of the honedge's attack with ease, maneuvering around the ghostly steel weapon without waiting for his trainer to prompt him to do so. He did glance back though towards the blonde who was contending with the way the restless winds buffeted his excessively long tresses. He got a smile from his trainer though which was enough praise for him to puff out his stout chest.
"Earthquake, Dei!" Kris called out to him, raising his voice just enough to be heard over the wind. "Then dragon rage!"
A mere moment or so later, the howling of the wind was steadily drowned by a rumble that increased in intensity. The earth began to shake with formidable tremours that grew in turn with the noise. Kris staggered slightly, both the wind and the shaking while having his hands full was a little much to handle adroitly, but Deimos pressed on. As the ground jumped and spilt, closed up and jolted, the ground-type rode the tremendous waves and made a beeline for his opponent, purplish flames spilling from his ajar maw as he prepared his second attack.

Sylvester knew all too well that he and his Honedge were yet to be off the hook. Apparently fire blast wasn't the only surprise Kristmar's Gible had up it's sleeve, riding the shards of earth towards his pokemon. "Kseniya, dodge quickly!" Adhering to her trainer's advice, the Honedge manage to drift to the side of the attack, managing to avoid it in it's entirety. Though that came at it's own cost, as a purple hue festered in Gible's maw.
The Honedge was caught off-guard, and the violet projectile hit directly. Honedge soared backwards a ways, her complexion slightly singed. "Alright Kseniya, retaliate with shadow claw!" Shaking itself back into focus, the Honedge flew towards the Gible and cultivated her own purple hue along the edge of her form. She was disgruntled, and swung towards Gible twice in a frenzied rage.

Close, but not close enough. The gible grumbled to himself as he darted out of the way of the ghost type's enraged attacks, still reaping the benefits of the current isolated weather event he'd created. Kris aimed to finish this round before the sandstorm subsided though because he already knew that Deimos wouldn't fair well being struck by the eerie blade enhanced by swords dance. Honedge was a hard hitter, plus this one did appear quite strong anyway.
"Dei, get another dragon rage in!" Kris paused to get a better hold on his glameow who, for the time being, was silently huddled against him, detesting this brisk change in the wind and the way sand was being blown into his fur. "Then fire blast again!"
Again, tendrils of violet energy that resembled flames spewed from the gible's mouth and he set off for the honedge once more. He fired them at his opponent, the licks of fire blending steadily into a shades of orange instead and growing in brightness the longer he used the move. The dragon rage transitioned into fire blast with a final release of energy, intense enough to make Kris squint his eyes closed for a moment.

There was nothing left for Sylvester to do but watch as his pokemon succumbed to an unconscious state, all thanks to the fact Kseniya could no longer keep up with the attacks Kristmar's Gible was spitting out at such a swift rate. 'Damn. We did our best...'
"Alright Kseniya, return." Allowing his pokemon to go back inside it's ball, Sylvester had only one real choice—choose another pokemon. He simply hoped that this time it would not appear such a pitiful attempt as his last pokemon. In all truth, however, Gible merely had a sort of home field advantage. Just about any other pokemon going up against him in a similar scenario would have just as much trouble. Though fortunately for Sylvester, he had just the right pokemon necessary for such a task. "You remember Marley, don't you?"
He allowed the pokemon out unto the field, wasting no time in executing the offensive. "Marley, give this Gible a thorough taste of your dazzling gleam." In the following moments, two blindingly bright flashes would emit from the fairy type pokemon, something that would prove extremely effective against a dragon pokemon like Gible.

Marley. Yeah. Kris remembered Marley. A grim 'fuck' resounded in the blonde's head, knowing what was coming now. Marley was that sylveon of his which he'd taught dazzling gleam at the market in Rustboro; a lovely creature and, unlucky for Deimos, a powerful fairy type. Kris was eager to see such a beautiful pokémon in battle, although it didn't bode well for him.
Deimos was, as expected, blasted away by the sylveon's opening move. The dragon was rendered entirely helpless by the crippling type advantage which was had over him. All Kris could really do was sigh with a reluctantly amused smile on his lips and call his gible back swiftly.
"Using my own moves I taught you against me?" Kris tutted playfully, his smile shifting into a humoured smirk. "Cheeky,"
Not wasting any time, the blonde reached for his next pokéball, sending out Kasimir, his seviper. The large serpent pinpointed his opponent immediately and narrowed his eyes to challenging slits. A pink fairy fox? How... irritatingly cute.
"Screech at it!" Kris ordered the poison-type snake. "And then use swagger!"
The glameow in the coordinator's arms bristled in annoyance when the seviper shrieked at an unnatural pitch. It made even Kris cringe and grit his teeth at the purely horrific noise. Quickly, it quietened down to a softer hiss as Kasimir began his boastful little display, flaunting his muscular and slender bodice, swishing the blade on his tail with its poisoned edge, letting it glint in the sunshine.

The way Kristmar battled was formidable, even though Sylvester preferred to stray from such tactics as confusing a pokemon, or otherwise afflicting their normal state of well-being. 'I can''t just sit back and let Marley be defenseless, though...' His right hand curled into a fist. "Marley, snap out of it!" The Sylveon looked around, though the loony look in his eyes spoke volumes to how confused he really was, as well as the fact he couldn't even tell where Sylvester was. "Damn it...use tackle on that Seviper!" In the coming moments, Marley turned towards the Seviper...for a mere moment, before locking his gaze on the cut stone bench. With great haste, Marley hurled himself straight into it.
"Sylvee!" He cried out in pain, though grew further disoriented and enraged. "No that wasn't him! Use draining kiss instead!" The Sylveon continued to stare down the stone bench, though decided to ignore Sylvester's plea...and tackled the bench once again. 'Why me...?' Sylvester held his hand over his face, gesturing for Kristmar and his pokemon to get on with the battle.

Ouch. That looked like it'd hurt a hell of a lot. Kris flinched slightly as the sylveon, prey to the effects of his pokémon's disorientating swagger, charged straight into the solid stone bench. And not once, but twice. Confusing the lovely creature may have been his goal but... ouch, anyway. Seeing Sylvester motion for the battle to continue since his vulpine fairy seemed incapable of executing a simple attack, Kris licked the corner of his lip, feeling a little bit of pity, before pressing on.
"Make the most of this, Kasimir," he told the seviper who'd watched this entire scene unfold with the most smug of smirks. "Poison tail! Twice!"
Not needing any more encouragement than that simple order, the snake eagerly moved forward, his lithe and serpentine shape weaving with ease over the sand. He gained velocity the nearer he drew to his addled target and let a vicious rasp rip from his throat. Using his speed and swaying momentum of his body, the seviper whipped his tail right around with his filed blade at the ready. Poison oozed from the harmful edge as went to mercilessly slash at his foe with it. Once one way and then the other way. One, two. Left, right. "Sevvvvv!"

Sylvester knew what was coming before Kristmar could utter a word, and he accepted it well before Marley was being cut with the fine edge of the Seviper's tail. He felt bad for the poor little guy as he cried out further, being weak to such an attack. Sylvester allowed the guilt to fill his being, as he was responsible for his own pokemon. Though he could at the very least appreciate the sympathy Kris showed in his body language. They both felt bad...
"Marley, return..." The light encapsulated the fairy type pokemon now that they fainted, Sylvester switching to another one. This one would hopefully serve him better, lobbing his pokeball as the bird flew out, his ball rebounding back into his grasp from the gust of wind his pokemon produced upon flapping its wings. "Gunther, I'm counting on you." The bird chirped in response and gave a firm nod, peeling his eyes at the enemy Seviper as he circled from above. "Give him two tastes of your peck attack!" The bird swooped down, descending upon the poisonous snake with great speed as it aimed to spear it with his beak, circling around and making a second flight to hit Seviper again. 'C'mon Gunther...you can do this, I know you can...'

What was this? Another cutesy pokémon? The seviper hissed aggressively at the little bird as it circled around him in the sky, swishing his tail from side to side and overall trying to appear intimidating. The moody hissing he made only grew louder as the swablu swooped down to peck him.
"Grab him with bite!" Kris' eyes were fixed on the way the swablu flitted around his seviper on his cottony wings. "Get him next time he gets within reach to attack."
Kasimir coiled up defensively, his lithe frame tightening considerably as he nestled his head securely in the middle. This position, to Kris' experienced eye with serpents, wasn't just to guard himself though; this was a snake preparing itself to lunge for a threat. Kasimir allowed the swablu to get close enough to attack him once more and, as the bite-sized bird went to fly away, he sprung forward, using the strength in his coiled body to propel himself upward. His mouth agape, flashing his full set of unnerving fangs, the seviper went to clamp down on the swablu and bring it down to the ground.
Post by Sylvester Blackburne on Jul 30, 2015 23:06:02 GMT
Observing the Seviper closely, Sylvester discerned what exactly it had coiled for a little too late for him to do anything about it. However, Gunther was no ordinary bird. He came from a family of dragons, Altarias to be exact. Even if Sylvester did not know it, the bird had its own survival instincts, which became quite apparent as it began to peck at the inside of the Seviper from inside it's mouth. Yet, one of the fangs pierced his wing, a violet discoloration taking to the otherwise alabaster wings of cloud.
"Gunther, keep it up!" He had to reinforce his pokemon's confidence, and remind him that he was there. IT must have been relatively terrifying, taking on a beast roughly eight times his size. The Seviper had more length to it than even Sylvester, who was just a couple inches over six feet. It made him begin to wonder just how strong he though his Swablu was, having fed it so many rare candies in the past.
