Leah had been thinking about the events of the cave a lot more lately- about magma and what it could have come to. There were a lot of places in her life where paths diverged, and Cassandra Cain had been one of them. Did she regret leaving magma? No. It had been a silly organization, that couldn't have, under any chance or circumstance, amounted to much. She didn't like being a part of a group, and she didn't like getting the grunt's share of the work. When it came to groups, the people she like usually died. She idly wondered about Ai, but shoved the thoughts away, and concentrated on the breezy, sea-stinking air of Slateport.
Poor poor little Cassandra, having to call this rat's ass of a town her home. She tsked softly, and removed from her denim side bag a cellphone, pulling out the magma girl's number. She was impressed the girl hadn't changed it, but she supposed life hadn't changed that much either. But it had. She remembered Cassandra's little boyfriend in the cave, and the look she had on her face. It was too contented. What had happened to the girl's fire? Was Leah supposed to be disappointed yet again?
She sighed, and her flexible, adept fingers began dancing around the keys.
hello, long time no see (thank god for that), cass. let's get something to eat- at Manchini's please, I can't deal w/ your stinkholes in this heat. bitches need to catch up after all.
She swiftly pressed the send button-no regrets there-, still amused that Cass hadn't changed her username, and stifling a chuckle at the thought. Tucking her phone back (into her pocket this time, because no doubt Cass would have a snark in mind for her 'invitation'), she waited casually, a pretty red head at the entrance to an extraordinarily rich and ostentatious restaurant. Life was good.
she's on her phone reading something when a notification pops up. her eyes widen in surprise - leah? she thought she'd never see her again after the exploration. cass feels the familiar surge of hate inside of her, something that makes her want to wrap her hands around something and not let go. she lets out a calming sigh before opening it up.
it's an invitation. to one of the nicest restaurants in town.
she lets the message sit for a moment, perplexed. what the fuck cass sends, because this is obviously some sick joke that she's playing. she waits for a moment, rereading the message again and again and suddenly it doesn't feel like a joke anymore. it feels..strangely genuine.
sometimes she wonders about leah. what happened to her after she left magma. rumours said that she's becoming a coordinator -- and a good one, too. that she's doing whatever she feels happy. of course, leah's still a bitch. but she's earned her respect. she's done something that cass has never gotten the courage to do. even though she's the leader of magma, cass finds that not everything is as great is she glorified it to be. in fact, she can even say that it's ruined her life. last time she saw leah, she looked great. she's the same as she always was. she doesn't have to worry about leading a whole organization. or a certain leader of aqua. or just...life in general.
and she's jealous.
but she's also curious. cass unlocks her phone once again, deft fingers sliding over each key. you better be paying. she types out, what time bitch. it's not long before she gets a message back. right now? cass laughs at the replies. leah does have a point. she's not exactly busy right now, but she probably will be later.
she leaves the message unreplied to get ready. soon enough cass is at the extravagant restaurant. she spots the fiery red of leah's hair long before she arrives. she leers the same strange streak of bangs that fall over her shoulders. ones that she wants to cut and throw away.
The redhead smirks at the messages Cass sent- the girl has sass, and she's gotta like that, one way or the other. Her fingers tap on the keys happily. She feels like this awkward reunion will end up with something interesting for both sides. Admittedly, she's not jealous of Cass. But she was jealous of air that Cassandra had walked with at the cave- the air that she was on top. The aura that rightfully hers. But somehow, it looked good on Cass. She had changed. And the Empress was determined to find out why.
The mop of horrid brown hair leaped into view, and undbidden, Leah's face turns into a scowl. It's almost a natural reaction at this point. "Hello, my dearest brown-haired Tangela," Leah says, offering Cassandra a mockingly sweet smile.
"Let's go inside- the food here should be some good eye-bleach." Leah's words are cruel, but she gestures to the restaurant with her eyes, letting Cassandra go in before she does. Some kind of respect, although probably not that much. The redhead follows the brunette inside, the two good-looking women obviously catching the eyes on the men in the restaurant. However the eyes are obvious glares, and since the place is posh enough, the people mask their interest with their menus. Leah snorts and sits down, not waiting for Cass.
"So?" Leah asks, sipping on her drink as though it had a straw, her lips puckering in an all-too bitchy way. "It's been a while, huh. Never thought I'd see you again since I left for Johto. How's Slateport? Stinking of fish as always?"
leah left magma a long time ago, and cass has to remember that she has to be careful. leah doesn't know that she's the leader of magma, or that she's had a couple problems with rory. at she knows is that cass stayed, and she didn't. but judging from her scrutinizing eyes in the cave, cass can tell that she's curious. maybe that's why she's looking to catch up, because she has to know everything, especially when it concerns people that she used to know. despite that, cass is willing catch up because she's curious about leah, too. she wants to know whether she's actually successful or not.
leah's face contorts into an ugly scowl. she greets her with an insult, reminiscent of the old days. cass mirrors her own scowl, "i don't think you should be talking. red haired...bidoof." cass says. she struggles to think of any hairy pokemon, but bidoof will do. cass rolls her eyes at lead, leading the way and muttering a small 'thanks'. she's oblivious to the stares as they make their way through the room. when they finally get to their seats, cass slides into the seat across from leah.
"so what?" she snaps. it's true, it has been a while. a couple years, at least. it seems like everyone from her past was coming to haunt her -- rory, leah...well, it's only two people, but they had a big impact from her life. it feels a little nostalgic to know that they're both back in her life. cass blinks. she takes a moment to gather her thoughts and answers, brushing off the obvious insult.
"that i'd seen the last of you once you left." cass rolls her eyes, "slateport's been good as always. better than your rat infested towns, at least. what about you?"
Leah cant help but give Cass a questioning look at the choice of words- Cass might be tempered, but often she's not to sharp on banter. Usually it's fun poking at her, but today Cass seems to be off beat. Oh well- any other day and Leah would have taken advantage of it, but right now there's something she's seeking, and she's willing to play harmless. For a little bit, anyway. She attempts to start a conversation, and Cass snaps right back at her- it's not surprising. She should have known better than to mess around with a feisty girl like her right away.
Leah reclines, her back almost perpetually straight as her hands interlace in front of her, sitting idle on the table as her red eyes look at Cass, almost judging her as she speaks. A magma grunt, Leah thought. head tilting slightly as a smile formed after hearing Cass's slow but perfect answer. Leah doesn't honestly have much against Slateport- hell it has one of her most favored restaurants- but getting Cass prickly was fun, as always. A wave of nostalgia hit the red head as well, although she tried to answer quickly so as not to show it.
"Please," Leah said, her voice so annoyed that it seemed as though Cass had just insulted her very being. "I'd never let my kingdom get rats." The waiter came around, and Leah smiled delicately, taking both the glasses from the waiter, and smiling almost innocently as she pushed one glass towards Cass.
"See?" she asked, gesturing to the clear liquid. "Proof I haven't tried to drug you." She took her own drink o her lips, pausing a little bit to add a "Yet," as she took her first sip. It was all fun and games, though. As much as they hated each other they hadn't really...hated each other. It was complicated. Leah put the glass down, the plain water tasting like dirt with how accustomed she had been to alcohol.
"Me? Oh, Cass, you have no idea. Never been better in my life. Family can kiss my ass- Hoenn's been treating me nice, and the business is rich." Cass knew of course about Leah's general hate towards her family, given it was something she ranted about often back when they were smaller.
"You? Still rocking the cute cat ears on that grunt outfit?" Leah laughed openly at her own joke, stopping to daintily wipe her mouth with a napkin.
leah stares at her for her poor choice of words, but thankfully, doesn't comment on it. it's actually a little strange. she usually jumps at the chance to make fun of cass, but there's only silence. it sets cass on edge. leah's probably planning something. she needs to be extra careful about what she says now. but nonetheless, leah's still going to get the banter that's plagued their interactions. there's a sudden sense of nostalgia that hits cass as she speaks. all these years have still not dented their hate (the closest word that could describe their relationship) for one another.
"your kingdom has to fall eventually." cass snorts. she herself has one - magma - but it hasn't fallen yet. or at least, not under her rule. she's been commited to it since the day she joined. it's one of her driving forces. if magma were to ever fall, then she would, too. cass notes that with slight concern as she catches the glass in her hands, and reluctantly takes a sip from it. "like you would stoop to that level." she rolls her eyes. the cold, icy water is refreshing, especially in the summer heat.
"that's great to know." she says with a layer of sarcasm. there's little vemon in her words. cass would never admit it, but she's actually glad that leah's doing well. it's better to see her as a success rather than a failure, even when she defected as a grunt.
"of course." cass shrugs. the cat ears had always been a favorite feature of her outfits. it's cute, for being on the uniform of a eco-terrorist organization. "say, did you even return the uniform?" she says with a thoughtful look. leah doesn't seem like the type to ever return something out of the kindness of her own heart. she sighs, going back to the topic at hand.
there's a glint in her eye as she answers, her lips draw into a little grin. "but i've been good, too. successful."
Leah shrugs, letting Cass have that one. "That's why I'm in Johto, obviously. To make another one just in case." She gives a playful smile, sipping her drink with her eyes still glued on Cass in a slightly uncomfortable stare- but Leah's never been one to shy around things. Why would she become a coordinator otherwise? Hate was a strong word, but either way, their relationship could not be described as anything else. There just wasn't a word for them, which was funny, since Leah never liked labels.
"True, true," Leah says, breaking her gaze finally only to examine her nails. She looks up before completing her comment, saying the next bit with both sarcastic humor but something chilly in her eyes. "I'd go for something more poetic. Like tossing you into a volcano."
Cass's words make Leah feel a little smug, glad she's at least annoyed the brunette with her success story. To be truthful, she might not have it completely well. She hasn't told Cass about the real reason she found herself in Hoenn, that being the "mysterious text" sent to her by someone she was likely going to kill if she ever got her hands on. The nerve of someone impersonating Ai! But she wasn't here to think about that.
She quirks her eyebrows at the comment. "Don't tell me Magma's so brankrupt they're needed their uniforms back." But then she thinks about it a little, pondering whether she even has the cute little thing somewhere. "But yeah, I think I have it. Somewhere. Can't just go around waving it or giving it away, after all. And people actually check the trash of celebrities." She shuddered at the thought, wondering if she had any stalkers. That would be..amusing.
"Oh?" Leah asks, interested the minute she sees that blue glint in Cass's eyes. "What, they kick you up to Sergeant?" she asks, sipping her drink with the same intense stare as, well, ever.
