ah this was peaceful. the open air, the quaint sounds and smells of nature. it was enough to prompt a family or two from their homes in littleroot to make what they could of the nice weather. or at least the would have, had the pristine blanket they'd so carefully placed on the grass not been viciously trampled by a galloping blitzle. along with whatever food stuffs they'd gotten the chance to place down on it. "it took us three days to make that potato salad!" the furious yell faded the further she raced away from them.
further up atop a grassy hill sat a sheepish woman. "oops." was the only thing she said while watching the frantic family try to salvage what was left of their lunch. then again, what a bunch of idiots. couldn't they tell from the trampled grass that this was her impromptu race track? she'd only been here all morning with her little blitzle; read soon-to-be-zebstrika. speaking of which along with training the little equine's stamina they would have to get to training some time soon too.
as shooter darted around the bend dove gave the pokemon a beaming grin. noting some dappled of...whatever meal she's managed to stick her hoof in back there. "aside from that little interruption you were making some good time." the woman noted looking at the band on her wrist. "nothing to brag about next to those champs back hope. i mean, ol' raiden could clear a mile in a minu-" a disheartened cry of shooter brought her back to witness the blitzle's downtrodden expression,
"ah, don't worry about it shoo~ even those guys started off just like you; but don't worry," she knelt beside the creature and cradled her face next to hers. "leave it to me and i'll make you the best." imagining the moment shooter evolved was enough to make the woman as giddy as a schoolgirl. the thought of riding a zebstrika of her own even more-so. who knows? maybe she could head back into the tracks, win a few races and stick it to her old man.

If you wanna leave I'm ready
We've come too far to give up who we are
So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars
She's up all night 'til the sun I'm up all night to get some She's up all night for good fun I'm up all night to get lucky We're up all night 'til the sun We're up all night to get some We're up all night for good fun
It's a slow climb up the hill, the heat of the sun bearing down on his blonde head as the wind barely picks up. Finally on the top, he sets his sights on the figure, running wildly along the plains. He has a hunch, which he dares to find the truth about, as he squints and tries to tack the rider as the woman he remembers. Elijah thinks he's right though, that this is indeed Dove, a known Zebstrika rider who hailed elsewhere. He used to watch her, back when he could fly off whenever he liked, to see races and the sort. A betting man, a fair few times she might have won him a good amount of money, which was why he had taken it upon himself to get to know her a while. Not that he was able to get much from her, just enough to muse himself that they were friends of sorts. That was enough.
It's a poor substitute for a real track, the route far too flat to possess any sort of challenge. He can see that it's a Blitzle she rides. Vaguely, he wonders what had happened to her old steed. He can see her slow down to a trot, which is where he sees an opening. Coming up to her in a quick jog, he raises a hand in small wave of hello, offering a plain smile.
"I thought I recognized you." He says in greeting, giving the Blitzle a quick glance before looking at Dove once more. "Though, never would have thought I'd find you all the way out here in Hoenn, this place just isn't built for a track." There's a certain familiarity in the way he speaks, as if to assume that they're close friends. And why not? Especially in this ragtag town, who was to say otherwise. "But who knows, huh? You might just bring in some class and competition." There it was, a toothy smile, reserved for cameras and struck deals.
not once had the thought even crossed her mind. that by some conicidental occurence she wuld encounter a familiar face so far from home. least of all a this one, especially so far from what she'd call an enjoyable settlement. let's face it, littleroot wasn't exactly a thriving metropolis. in that brief glimpse she caught a flood of memories of home flooded into her mind, along with some she wasn't all to keen on remembering concerning her family but that was no fault of the man steadily growing nearer.
giving her blitzle a reassuring pat she rose from her crouch. "well, well. fancy seeing you here." she returned the toothy smile with one of her own. "i gotta say this was the last thing i suspected. a wry grin creased her lips. "you're not following me are you?~" without further adieu she moved forward to sling her arm around the taller male in an impromptu hug as per usual.
although their interactions had been haphazard upon their first meeting she gradually began to see more and more of him at her races, even treating her to a few free meals here and there to commemorate what wins she had under her belt. likely with the money he procured from betting on her too. either way she considered the guy a kindred spirit of sorts, despite not knowing very much about him personally. but he bought her food on many occasions which put him in her good books.
she gave a very exaggerated sigh. "tell me about it eli." the plain before her was given an irksome glare. "seems like this region is totally ignorant to the wonders of my ol' passion, such a damn shame." dove grinned. "i'll have to educate them sooner or later. unless they want shooter trampling all over their picnics." said blitzle had already approached the stranger cautiously, but in seeing her trainer's lackadaisical response to his presence let her own guard lower enough to sniff at him curiously. "i'm sure you already heard about the big situation back home with daddy-dearest," she huffed the name sarcastically. "so that's why i'm here, what about you?"

"Following you? Maybe. Why, would it bother you?" He jokes, grinning as he leans into her hold. It's all coincidence of course, it's too hard to track anybody in Hoenn without a proper Pokenav, and he has yet to register for one. That would have to be his priority once he reaches Rustboro. Or at least somewhere that looked a lot more like civilization that this route.
It's nice of course, to be among friends and not staring strangers. Already a few of the kids at Littleroot had been ogling him, no doubt wondering if he were a trainer and wishing they were old enough to have their Pokemon, start their own journey to get away from their nagging mothers. He waves his hand in a dismissive gesture. "A rumor here and there, might have been fed by something your dad said, you know how it is with the paparazzi. Can't trust them to get half of their news right." He says with a shrug. It's even worse because she's sort of a celebrity, conflicting stories all around. There'd even been an article how she was secretly pregnant and riding was endangering her life or some similar bullshit. Which was why Elijah had long learned to take any kind of news with a grain of salt.
"Well let's see. There are rumors that you were injured and you've been recovering in Snowpoint with a hot commodity. Another that you're quitting altogether, because you've found true love and you're going to let yourself be whisked away by this mystery man." He explains this one with a lot of hand gestures, opening his palms as if to mime glitters. "And then there's the boring one that said your old man has disowned you, so you're dirt poor despite all your winnings." He then shrugs, looking at the approaching Blitzle with concern. "So you tell ME what's going on. Because I see no mystery man."
He holds a hand out towards Shooter, tilting his head in curiosity to the Pokemon's reaction. "This one won't bite, right?" He asks, very serious.
