To tell the truth, Kristmar wasn't the biggest fan of the beach. The sun's summery rays were particularly merciless on his fair skin and scalp and the sand burned the soles of his bare feet as he walked over it, plus it didn't help how that fine gritty stuff had a talent of getting everywhere. Between his toes, under his nails, in his pants, socks, shoes, food, everywhere. It was exasperating. It could be days after he even went to the beach and, lo and behold, he'd still be finding it in his bedsheets or something. So, yeah, the blonde didn't exactly look like the happiest of campers as he plodded along the dunes. On the other hand, his seviper - Kasimir - couldn't be enjoying himself more. [break][break] The sand, warmed by the sun to an agreeable temperature for him, felt like heaven on his dark scales. As the snake twisted and writhed his steady way through the small ridges, he rubbed his large head against the ground, his tongue flickering silently in contentment. His lithe shape thrummed quietly as he continued his almost kittenish endeavours and it did get a reluctant little smirk from his new trainer. It was... maybe a little bit nice to get away from the hubbub of the festival, to a more solitary portion of the beach closer to the forest, to spend a little time with one of his newer pokémon. [break][break] "At least someone's enjoying themselves," he muttered, albeit a little sourly, and reached down to roll up his denim capris further, to just above his knee. Kasimir gave an almost groggy-sounding hiss and stayed on the dry sand, rolling about leisurely, and watched his trainer traipse closer to the water. The wet sand was much too cool for his liking; he was perfectly fine where he was and coiled around himself into a tight circle to make it clear. [break][break] Kristmar gave a mildly humoured huff and stepped onto where the waves lapped the shore. Fine then. The catlike serpent could stay there while he cooled off his feet. The blonde tossed his long mane of flaxen hair over his shoulder, debating tying it back with how the salty sea breeze was stubbornly pulling at it, and flinched as the cold water licked his toes. Undaunted, Kris subtly ignored the leering and entertained look his seviper was giving him at his slight reaction to the gelid water, and paddled in right up to his mid calves. [break][break] Like, fuck, it wasn't that... c-cold.
the young horsea enjoyed the more shallow waters. it was preferable due to the larger predators avoiding this particular section of beach. humans tended to stomp and splash the waters, which scared away potential prey. but horsea was all-too clever to allow such harmless play to disturb him.
"horsea!"
a particularly rough wave swept him up, causing the young pokemon to squeal unhappily. he accidentally bopped his head into a human's legs because of it, causing his eyes to go funny as temporarily lost focus.
a wild horsea appeared! the wild horsea bumped into coordinator kristmar!

The water wasn't so bad once he got used to it, Kristmar supposed. It was actually quite cool and refreshing now he wasn't fighting down the urge to march back to shore. The waters were simply crystalline, clear enough for him to watch his toes wiggle about in the sand. And... that was what he did. With a childlike air as he stood there clutching the thighs to his capris, hoisting them up further, Kristmar watched his toes dig about in the wet sand, unearthing a small shell that caught his eye as it glinted in the sunlight. [break][break] Kasimir saw the rough wave approaching far before his oblivious trainer did. He didn't think to warn him though. Instead, the snake rolled over with a large yawn, his jaw opening to an unsettling angle, and watched the scene unfold with a sly amusement. [break][break] Hearing the growing noise of a wave curling and crashing in on itself, Kris' head jerked upwards, being that it was considerably much more louder than the previous gentle waves. The blonde made a strangled little sound in surprise and feared for his trousers as he awkwardly tried to wade back, hopping from foot to foot while still holding onto his capris. Hardly a graceful look for a coordinator but it wasn't like there was anyone around to see besides a humoured seviper. The wave, despite his attempt at fleeing... still got him though. It got him good. It crashed into his legs and soaked him up to his waist, very nearly knocking him clean off balance and Kristmar gave an undignified and anguished cry. [break][break] Which was followed by another, a more embarrassing one as... something touched his leg. [break][break] His first thought was... tentacool. Grimer. Something gross. G-Gott. It took him a moment, in his mild panic and disgust, to notice that the whatever that'd bumped into him had been - while soft - too solid to be either of those. [break][break] A grimace was painted clearly on Kristmar's face as he reluctantly released the grip he had on his trousers. They were sodden and heavy now. Uncomfortable and wet. If there was one thing worse than getting sand everywhere, it was wearing soaking wet denim. He flapped his hands and looked around nervously for what'd banged into his leg during the wave, fearing the worst but... his face softened a little on seeing a horsea floating about. Huh, it didn't look too fine either. It looked a little, y'know, cross-eyed. Forgetting his miserable trouser plight, Kris held onto his waistband, hitching the heavy garment up, and waded over to the sea pokémon. [break][break] "Uh..." He reached into the water and cupped the back of the creature's head. "Are you... alright? Hello? Little... horsea?"
his mind eventually cleared, and once it did, he noticed the warmth of the human's touch. the horsea retreated a short distance away at first, releasing a small neigh of bewilderment before blinking his eyes. surfacing in order to get a good look at the human, he peer at the human curiously. he had never seen one up close before. nickering softly, he moved on to the large serpent. he had never seen one of these, either.
"horsea?"
shying away once again from the sea serpant, he glanced between the two - wary.

Hm? The horsea was backing away. Had he done something to spook it a little? Kristmar looked at both of his empty hands in turn and then at the drenched denim capris literally hanging from his hips because of their waterlogged weight. If he had to be honest, he probably hadn't looked so nonthreatening in a while. He followed the water type's line of sight however to... the seviper lounging languidly on the shore. Ah. Kasimir was a whole other matter though. His curved fangs that protruded from his mouth didn't exactly scream 'friendly'. [break][break] "Don't worry... he's harmless." Well. Uh. That was stretching the truth a little. A little of a lot. Adelaide still hadn't forgotten her first encounter with the beast when she'd ended up between those menacing jaws. Kristmar ran a hand through his hair and gestured to the large serpent watching them from the shore. "He's like a big cat. He won't even come in the water... uh... watch." [break][break] Kristmar waded a few steps closer to the shore, glancing nervously at the cutesy horsea. He didn't want it to swim away nor did he want it to look so wary; he hadn't ever gotten so close to one of these pokémon before. Slowly, Kris bent over and cupped his hands by the water before... splashing the seviper which got a very surly hiss from Kasimir. What! What? [break][break] The snake flexed his muscular bodice at the cold water, rolling about in the warmer sand and rubbing it against his scales. He gave a last quiet hiss and curled himself up tightly, hiding his head in the center of his coiled body, tucking the sharpened end of his tail inside as well. Kristmar gave a small chuckle and splashed again to make the mound wiggle. "See? He doesn't do anything. He's brave and all but he hates the water."
he blinked at the coordinator and then his pokemon. they didn't seem to be the dangerous sort. cautiously, he approached the male, snout twitching a bit before he nickered in satisfaction. so some humans weren't so dangerous after all! pleased by this knowledge, he swam small circles around the boy happily.
"horsea!"
the tiny creature ducked his muzzle into the water before bucking his head - resulting in a decently-sized splash in the human's direction. he wouldn't mind indulging in a little bit of play.
the wild horsea appears to have taken a liking to kristmar! the wild horsea wants to play!

It seemed like a bit of splashing was all it'd taken to win the horsea over a little. It even surprised the blonde with a few nickers and then it even swam around him! A wild pokémon, a completely wild pokémon, wanted to play with him? Kristmar couldn't remember the last time something like this happened, maybe as a little kid but definitely not once he'd entered adulthood. He glanced down at his shirt - a simple white t-shirt now specked with water - as the horsea splashed him and glanced around quickly... checking for bystanders. [break][break] No one around. At least no one who was paying attention to them. And his denim capris were soaked enough already. Getting a little more wet... wouldn't hurt if no one saw an adult goofing around. [break][break] He turned back to the small water-type with a grin. "Y'think you can get away with splashing me like that, do you?" Kris held onto the waistband of his rolled up trousers and hopped after the horsea through the shallows, his tone naught but playful. "You'll have to think again! [break][break] Unamused, Kasimir peered between the coils of his body now that he was no longer being assaulted with seawater and flickered his tongue at his trainer's antics. Fool, he hypocritically thought, as if he hadn't been rolling about in the sand like a young snake only moments before. He hissed quietly and let his trainer energetically chase after the horsea to try returning its splashes... but probably only getting himself even more soaked as a result.
the water-type nickered in absolute delight as the human joined his game. they chased one another, delighting in their simple fun. it lasted for a short while, until the creature's excitement swelled dramatically. willing to release his joy, he craned his neck, muzzle pointed skyward. it released an aurora beam, the beautiful spectacle shooting upward in a mixture of colors as the power fluctuated and shimmered prettily against the sun's light.
"horsea!"
chirping happily, the beam faded into naught more than glitter that sprinkled down upon them. a slight chill entered the airs, and horsea rejoiced in the display.

W-What... what had that been? Aurora beam? A... horsea with aurora beam? [break][break] Kristmar rubbed his arms vigorously to keep the goosebumps at bay; they'd crept stealthily over his skin at both the dazzling spectacle and the cold sparkling remnants that were cool to the touch on his already wet skin. The man forced himself to close his ajar lips and his head whipped around to give the horsea a bright grin. He wanted something like that on his team. He needed something like that on his team. And... he better hurry too. It wasn't like he'd been the only beach-goer to see that. But... gott, he didn't want to scare the thing off by seeing too overeager either. [break][break] "You're amazing at that," he gushed, wading back over to the water-type with a few gracious claps of his hands as a small applause, honestly meaning what he said. "That was really good." [break][break] For a moment, Kristmar watched the last few crystals, large enough to reflect light and gain a rainbowlike shimmer while also being small enough to look like actual glitter, and caught a couple in the palm of his hand, where they promptly melted and vanished. He thought about how he should proceed. The horsea had appeared to have taken a liking to him but, as much as he'd love a new addition to a future coordinating line-up, he couldn't force the creature to come with him. Well. He could. He had done in the past. But he was over that life now. [break][break] "Hey," he started, splashing the horsea gently, "do you... wanna learn more pretty tricks like that one? I can help teach you... if you want?"
immensely satisfied that the human enjoyed his display, he glowed with pride - a smug look forming as he took the time to relish such attention. the boy's question startled horsea, causing his once prideful state to fade into bewilderment. the human had offered him the opportunity of expanding his array of tricks. the water-type hesitated, his mind wandering as he briefly wondered what his sire would think. the male, after all, was responsible for his inheritance.
"horsea," he replied, with a short nod.
yes, perhaps this would work! he wanted to learn. and it sounded preferable to aimless wandering.

Perfect, the horsea was agreeing to go with him! Kristmar beamed widely at the seahorse pokémon, honestly glad that it'd... been so simple. This way was so much more preferrable to beating them into submission so he could throw a pokéball. Kris made a movement with his hand that beckoned the horsea to follow him closer to the shore while he waded back onto the beach, over to his satchel that he'd dumped by his seviper. [break][break] "This won't hurt or anything... it's just a pokéball," he told the water type as he produced a red and white capsule from his bag and wandered back to the water's edge to show it to him. "I'm told it's quite cozy inside... and it'll just be until you can meet the rest of my team later. Don't worry, it'll be alright." [break][break] He pressed the button on the front of the pokéball, causing it to open and send a mass of red-tinted light towards the horsea. His seviper watched with a rude snort and shifted around so he could turn his head. He wasn't a fan of pokéballs, seeing that when he'd been captured, he hadn't had a choice. It wasn't like he was having a terrible time with Kris or anything but... he didn't see the reason why any wild pokémon would willingly go into one of those contraptions. Kris caught onto the serpent's churlishness and rolled his eyes at him with slight fondness. [break][break] "Moody," he murmured under his breath before turning back to the horsea, waiting for the capture to be finalized.
the water-type peered at the capsule curiously, blinking a few times. after carefully listening to the human boy's reassurance, he gave a small nod in response. it didn't appear that bad. kinda fancy, actually. humans were such curious creatures.
this was bound to make for an interesting journy!
horsea was absorbed into the capsule with no trouble at all, and the capsule trembled lightly before eventually going still with a soft click.

Kristmar looked down at the pokéball in the palm of his hand for a lingering moment once it stopped trembling and the light on the button faded away. With a private smile, for only himself, Kris' fingers curled tightly around the warm metal which oddly even felt a little heavier now in his hand. This horsea would be a great addition to his team, he was sure of it. [break][break] For now he'd keep the little guy safe in his satchel, he decided, as he wandered back over to his bag and surly seviper. The snake made a point to scoot away from his dripping wet trainer, hissing in annoyance when even the slightest drop of cold seawater felt onto his scales. Kris sucked in his chest and shook his head at the silly thing, swatting his side with the back of his hand with a little bit of playfulness. [break][break] "Oh, give over, you," he sighed, undaunted by the accusing way the seviper's slitted eyes narrowed. "What are you? A prissy kitten that can't handle a bit of water?" [break][break] But now that that was over... fuck. He was soaking wet. Kristmar's face twisted into a gentle grimace and he hitched his waterlogged capris up for the umpteenth time. The ends of his hair were damp now as well and his t-shirt was sticking to him in places as well. He doubted he'd brought a towel either... Kris made a little noise of irritation, now aware how uncomfortable his wet rolled-up trousers were, and began trying to wring and squeeze as much excess water as he could out of them.
she had took an immediate liking to the serviper. he appeared strong. and worthy enough to sire eggs. she had been lounging some distance away and sunning herself in a leisurely fashion before noticing him. the pokemon's maw was left gaping as she tasted the surrounding airs and familiarized herself with his scent before pursuing the attractive male. undeterred by the young human, she slithered closer. ekans hissed softly, her approach similar to how a serpant would handle a potential mate.
a wild ekans appeared! the wild ekans has taken an interest in serviper!

the truth is cruel, so send me a dream
Kristmar squinted his eyes up at the clear periwinkle sky as, defeated, he gave up on trying to wring more excess water from his jean capris. It was warm and sunny out with a gentle sea breeze; with any luck perhaps the pleasant weather would dry his clothes out enough so that he'd at least not be dripping wet by the time he headed back to the guesthouse. Sighing to himself, he pinched the end of his shirt and began to shake it, airing it, in a bid to speed up the process at least a little. Consumed in his menial task, he didn't immediately notice the ekans that stealthily drew closer to his sunbathing pokémon, but his seviper did.
Kasimir lifted his large head on smelling the presence of another pokémon, his forked tongue flickering as he discerned her scent from the earthy one of damp sand, the coconutty one of his trainer and the salty one of the sea. Languidly, he slowly turned to look in her direction after pinpointing her and returned her quiet hiss. He watched her advance towards him with curiosity, watched her lithe and smaller bodice slither over the sandy ridges that'd been created naturally by the wind. Another hiss left his open maw, this one more pronounced and loud enough to attract his trainer's attention.
"Sevvvv..." Kasimir rasped at the female as he uncoiled himself with deliberately slow movements. She was smaller than he was, more slenderly built, but at a glance she appeared around his age. The seviper swished his swordlike tail with a degree of grace and he weaved closer to the ekans, swaying side to side exaggeratedly so to show off his muscular physique in a boastful display for the female.
"Kas, where are you---" Kristmar paused and spotted the ekans, his hands still in the middle of tying his hair back into a messy ponytail. "Oh."
