oh i just died in your arms tonight whoa, whoa broken hearts lie all around me, and i
Tonight was, if he looked at it in the most simplistic of ways, where everything would begin. Be that the goal he had set for himself, or a new relationship, he didn't know. But he doubted it would be the later- relationships had been long forsaken and in their place were the sort of quick, simple minded one-night agreements beneficial to both ends. But tonight even Julius could feel the surge of newness that speed dating brought, never mind that he was firmly against the idea you could meet your love at a place like this.
Who knew? Tonight was a night of beginnings.
He had on a Mega Pidgeot mask, and his favored brown vest with the bow and top hat- inside which was a currently sleeping Pikachu, one that could explode out at any moment and ruin a lot of things. Julius didn't care, it added a little more excitement. He sat down at his table and smiled, eagerly awaiting his 'date' for the first five minutes.
When a little girl came, however, his smile fell, and he could feel himself fighting the urge to roll his eyes. He had never been good with kids, but this was just silly no matter how you looked at it. Dangerous, too, for the girl. Who knew what kind of pedophiles were lurking at an event like this? His concern, as usual, was masked easily behind annoyance and sarcasm.
"Aren't you a little too old to be at a dating event, Madam?" he drawled, rolling the eyes behind his mask at the girl.

we are quirky, totally crazy, fairly broken but nicely decorated
The blonde still wasn't quite sure what'd compelled him to sign up for something quite like speed-dating when his own dating experience was... honestly rather lacking. With the language barrier he'd had to content with in high school, dates hadn't been very abundant, and then when he'd been affiliated with Magma he'd had a whole new barrier that'd impeded him from pursuing anyone. Plus he'd reasoned with himself that it wasn't going to be like actual dating; what could honestly happen within a whole five minutes? A 'hello', a polite 'how are you', some sharing of basic interests, maybe a joke and some laughter, perhaps a compliment if things went that way and then a hurried farewell once the five minutes were up. Put like that, it certainly wasn't daunting at all, especially not with a couple of those champagne flutes that were being handed around to take the very slight nervous edge off. If anything, he was just here to rub elbows with other trainers, maybe even another coordinator... nothing had to come out of this.
Kristmar strolled into the room he'd been pointed towards by one of the establishment's ushers and began to keep his eyes peeled for a swanna mask. His own mask - black, gold and purple that sleekly followed contours of his eyes - matched his pokémon that was accompanying him tonight; Kasimir, his seviper. The large serpent slithered behind him steadily, his forked tongue capturing the myriad of intermingling scents in the air. Floral and fruity perfumes, musky and earthy undertones of some colognes, the sharp smell of alcohol and a blend of aromas that came from the large variety of posh finger foods shuttled around on trays. It was all a little overwhelming for his sensitive sense of smell, but he didn't complain for the time being. He just obediently followed his suited trainer as he wove through the thinly spread crowd.
"Ah, look," he murmured to the poison type as he spotted a feathery mask near the other side of the spacious room. "Found him." A twist of nerves coiled in his stomach in spite of himself and, carefully, he deposited his empty champagne flute on a passing server's tray after draining the last swallow. The seviper's tongue flickered on catching a waft of nervous pheromones from his trainer and bowed his head down slightly, his amber eyes zoned in on the person who was to be his trainer's temporary date and they narrowed to warning slits. His attention was drawn to the hoothoot as well... their eggs are quite delicious, you know?
"Benji?" Kristmar asked as he ran his slim fingers through his sandy bangs, casting them from his crimson eyes so he could get a good look at the male.Thankfully he was able to keep his voice steady and smooth, just loud enough to be heard above the background music and chatter and... just barely above the din and shouting coming from the more, ah, lively participants. A small smile bowed the blonde's lips and he gestured to himself. "Kristmar." Did... he shake his hand? Or... or was that too stuffy of a greeting for a supposedly casual meeting. "Would you like to sit down? It can't be too comfortable keeping your arm like that."
Risu turned as a rather large man seemed to be his dining partner. Yami seemed to have asked a strange question, was he here just for the food? Of course isn't that what dating was? Risu was a very intelligent boy but he was a bit sheltered which is why he wanted to explore the world all over. "Just what exactly do you mean? I am here for the date." He gave a rather blank face at that moment and looked at the Glameow. The cat was purring it was actually rather cute, but what was wrong with its tail? Seemed a bit much.
Toki walked over and simply raised one scythe and let out a small roar as if he was saying hello to Yami and the Glameow. "Yeah this is Toki my friend, also I am a trainer who is going to take the region by storm." He offered a hand to Yami and smiled.
For the most part Sam would completely ignore the other tables at the moment. He was still a bit too stunned and weirded out at what was going on at his own table to worry about theirs. He seemed to be having at least a bit of trouble with processing what was going on.
How did a little kid even get in this place? Who the heck even let them sign up? Shouldn't their parent be here at least or something? All questions that were flying through Sam's head at the moment, barely even paying attention to anything besides it at the moment.
The thing that broke him out of his little thinking spell was when the child started kicking their feet under the table, which ended up causing Sam to scoot back just a bit. After all who wants to get kicked right?
Especially when you're wearing shorts that exposed your legs, not much protection to the actual legs there. But hey they were comfortable and easy to wear. Once he was snapped out of his thinking and somewhat related regretting of every decision he made up until now Sam would start to listen to what the little girl was saying.
Blinking in silence at most of it, he wasn't too sure how most of these things usually went. Buuut he was pretty sure it didn't involve him having to go get her things that she liked now. "I don't think thats how it works..I think thats just stuff they made up to get people to watch their shows." He said with a slight nod of his head, not wanting to nod too much to keep the Natu safe and sound on his head.
"Err..hello too magikarp." Sam just kinda blurted out after the Magikarp had flopped up from the ground for a brief moment. This event just kept getting stranger and stranger for him..
Harper was nervous, not only for signing herself up for something she thought she and Seamus could do together, but also because he hadn't shown up and now she was stuck here with a bunch of people who didn't know how to talk to her the way that most people she already knew did.
She pulled out her cell phone and sent a quick text to Seamus, telling him "thanks a lot for abandoning me here," before taking her seat in front of a very disinterested looking man who seemed to not notice her presence until he finally looked forward to see her sitting there in front of him.
Harper raised her hand in a shy wave and smiled politely, before pulling out her phone and typing a quick little message. "Hello, I'm Harper. I'm mute, so if you're uncomfortable talking to me, we can just sit here and people watch, or whatever. I'm not particular. Or we can text! Or I can text and you can talk... Either way."
Harper bit her lip and watched the person across the table as he read her message, nervous about what he could possibly think about her. Would he think she was a loser? Her fingers tapped on the glass of the table nervously while she waited for his reply.

Sebastian had been sitting alone at his table, twiddling his thumbs back and forth. His head lulled back against the chair as he waited for his date, staring at the ceiling, making note of all the little bubbles in the ceiling's paint. Someone hadn't done a very good job smoothing them out... Either that, or water was collecting under the paint. Neither was desirable, but his thoughts were interrupted by a woman standing in front of him, holding out her hand.
Scrambling slightly, he stood and took her hand, shaking it before pulling out her chair for her. Her dress complimented her, and he especially liked the way her bun was tucked so neatly together. Nodding, Sebastian smiled and took his own seat, brushing down his white button-up top, and resting his palms gently on his black slacks.
"Yes, I'm Sebastian. You can just call me Ian, though. You look stunning, I hope you didn't have to come far." Sebastian was told when he was younger by his mother that even if women choose to wear heels, they find their feet sore regardless at the end of the night.
"Would you like something to drink?" Sebastian motioned to the selection of drinks at the open bar.
[attr="class","colorful1"] She should have reacted in a much less aggressive manner, bitten her tongue when the words attempted to fly from her pursed lips -- but she hadn’t, nor had she ever been a girl to swallow her words. It was everything in her life all colliding into one reason, one moment where her words fly out -- where her hand clenches to a fist -- and strikes. The pick up line (if she could even call it that) hadn’t been too rude, though slightly rough in entrance and more annoying than sweet; and with today's times girls didn’t want a joke they could have read off a candy wrapper. They wanted more, not to be treated like some cheap hookup. Maybe she should have dialed it back just a little, and the thought enters her mind soon after she yells, but it’s too late to go back.
There was more yelling, some from the man she had just assaulted and more from the room just beyond theirs; but whatever was transpiring from the opposite area seemed far worse that this. She catches a name she doesn’t recognizes but one he drops with ease that it startles her, loosens her fists and removes the glare in her eyes. “Syndra?” There are more names, more insults and references he relays that Judith is left questioning things where she stands, leering over the man with more confusion than irritation. Her lips open to speak her questions, to ask him what he was talking about -- why he had called her by another name, told her things as though she was supposed to understand; but she doesn’t get the chance.
It happens in an instant, between the moment her lips part from one another and the words begin to form at the back of her throat. She had no time to guide the words into the air, no second to convey her fading questions that rarely linger in her mind. It’s the feeling of strands against her shoulder, falling against her skin and skidding down her back that catches her first; then it’s the way her hair falls flat against her neck.
Her hand reaches high, places it against the curve of her skin, fingers trailing through her sliced hair -- and she’s left speechless again. Bits of strands flutter over her hand, flicker off and onto her dress, and finally her eyes avert from the ground to her “date” for the evening. “... I… uh,” she mutters, barely audible amongst the talk of the room who -- for the most part -- had ignored her little outburst.
It’s her Heracross that makes the first move, its wings emerging from the shell of its back and landing onto the table -- clattering the vase over and smashing one of the misplaced glasses onto the floor. “W-wait!” she stutters out, startled by the sudden nose of the heavy bug type standing up and facing the Scizor atop the table. “No, no, no! Get down, get down!” Her arms shoot to push the Heracross off, its stance changing to brace the movement so he barely skid to the corner. “Please stop.”

[attr="class","mv1"]when the first scream sounded from the other room, evan winced at the familiar tone. while he knew the other two would be pissed off at him for accidentally signing them up for this speed dating, he thought they would just go through it as best they could and he would hear them rant later to him about it. despite his definite screw up, it could be something they could joke about and laugh after the fifteen minutes were up. they could share stories and then finally enjoy the rest of the gala. but now... he shared a quick look over at miles when they heard the screams and crashes before he pulled out his phone.
quickly typing a text to noah he sent it asking what the other was doing over there. now he was worried and he couldn't even focus on what was going on. the sounds coming from the other room were loud and it took everything in his power not to rush at the doors and find his way to where the commotion was coming from. looking back up, he glanced over at miles just in time to see his supposed date punch him right in his eye and fall over. "holy shit." evan could only sit there stunned at the sight as miles got up and started cursing the woman out and his scizor go in to attack.
it was then he took note of a woman sitting across from him shyly waving to get his attention. glancing nervously back over to the table where miles was, he finally turned his attention to his speed dating partner with a nervous grin. "ah sorry about that. things sound like they are getting hectic over there." he watched the female type something on her phone before showing him the message. this wasn't the first time he encountered someone who was mute and he had no problem conversing with the girl in whatever method she liked. pulling out his phone quickly, he figured this would be the method that would make her more comfortable and not so nervous to talk to him. "nice to meet you harper. you can call me evan. sorry for not noticing you at first. so how do you like the gala so far?"
Harper's eyes went wide as he took his phone out and started to type back to her. She grinned excitedly when her turned the phone to her and tugged her own phone back, typing furiously on the little keyboard. It was exciting that he was being so accommodating towards her, and she thought it was a little bit sweet how he was so thoughtful.
"I'm having a fun time... It's a little noisy, though." Harper blushed slightly at the comment; it wasn't that she didn't appreciate being here, it was just... Everything was so hustle a bustle, and she wasn't used to things being so fast-paced.
Sighing, she turned her phone back to herself after she knew he had read the message, and typed another one, before handing it over, smiling sincerely.
"If you're worried about someone, though, you can go check things out!" She didn't want to keep him here if his mind would be somewhere else; it wasn't fair to him if he was worried something might be wrong. Besides, she could always go with him to check it out.
[attr="class","nv3"] but i look at you. i look at you, and god, constellations are bursting, fires are dying, silence is deafening, the whole damn world is terrifying - - - – – and im falling, god, i’m falling.
[attr="class","mv1"]evan smiled at the way the girl seemed to light up when she read his message. it almost looked like she wasn't used to someone accommodating her. he had no problem with communicating this way. a conversation was a conversation to him whether or not the person could actually speak or simply write down words on a piece of paper.
when she turned the phone towards him again, evan laughed nervously and couldn't help but agree. this speed dating thing had turned out to be the worst idea and it wasn't helping that most of his friends were involved with all the commotion. either way he was sure they could handle themselves...at least he hoped. "yeah you can say that again." he thought he heard more crashes coming from the other room and the table where miles was at was still causing a stir.
the next message evan pulled out his phone and quickly typed a reply back. while he did want to go check up on miles and then head to the other room, he didn't think the people would let them out until the five minutes were up. added on to the fact it would be really rude to just leave her sitting there because his friends were having some trouble.
"it's no problem. my friends are tougher than they look and it's probably sorted out by now." at least he hoped it was. "did you come here with someone too?"
Harper bit her lip as she read over the texts, nodding slightly. So the commotion-causers were this person's friends. She smiled a bit as he asked if she had come here with someone.
Well, she had come to the city with someone.
But now she couldn't find him, and she was worried that something had happened. Or maybe he had just forgotten.
Probably the latter.
Harper shook her head in reply and smiled politely at the man. "Nope, it's just me. Trying to do new things, I suppose. Impressive, right?" She rasped out a voiceless laugh and rolled her eyes, before continuing to type.
"Really though, I'm from the Orange Islands, so I'm trying really hard to branch out, as you can see." She motioned to all the other couples around them, before grinning at him.

[attr="class","mv1"]evan looked at the phone again and nodded when the girl mentioned that she came alone. there was nothing wrong with that, he was really just curious if she got dragged into the speed dating thing like he did. while it had been his fault for signing up for this and messing up, it wasn't too bad if he managed to meet new people. he just hoped by the end of the day everyone would be okay and manage to have a little fun with this. he just hoped he wasn't getting his hopes too high for that.
he grinned and looked down at his phone and quickly typed a message back. so she wasn't originally from hoenn either which they had something in common. it was strange being in a new region and he could only imagine how it would feel to come alone. while he had noah to keep him company and share the experience with, he could say by experience that showing up in a new place with no one was scary.
"i know how you feel. i'm originally from johto and i had traveled by myself for a few months. it sucked but you get to meet all sorts of new people. the experiences you get is good too. you get used to it after awhile."
she took his hand with a smile, hoping hers didn't feel too calloused. she had slathered moisturizer over and over again for the past few days to try and salvage her work worn hands. at least he knew how to be a gentleman, natalie noted. "ian," she repeated after him. it suited his face. nevermind the fact that he was yet another black haired man - a charming one at that.
his compliments could have made off with her heart there and then. natalie flushed a little. "o-oh! thank you!" she rarely felt pretty, so it meant a fair bit coming from a stranger she had never met before. "i've been doing a bit of travelling myself, but i hung around slateport for a day before the event."
"i've got my drink right here," she raised her glass, taking a small sip of her drink and setting it down on the table. "so, tell me about you! where are you from?"
Smiling as she scanned over the words, Harper nodded slightly, agreeing with him. He did have some good points. She had met some pretty interesting people, and everyone seemed so kind as of lately. It was just stressful to try and get past the language barrier sometimes, and even though she was working on making her voice stronger, it was still tough to actually talk to people.
Bringing her phone back to herself, she typed a little bit and paused, sticking her tongue out as she thought, before typing a little bit more, excited to actually talk to someone who had been through this ordeal of moving before.
"I have met a lot of people! And it seems like everyone is really kind. Do you miss Johto sometimes? Sometimes I think I miss the Islands, but then I look around at all the great stuff here and it makes me feel a little better." Harper breathed out heavily as if she herself had been saying the sentence, before grinning at Evan, tilting her head as she waited for a response.

Sebastian laughed a bit at his inattentiveness and rubbed his cheek as she raised her glass to show him she already had a drink. In fact, he glanced down to the table to see that he already had a glass of water placed in front of him. Apparently it hadn't dawned on him to actually inspect the table before sitting down, he had just gravitated to the cleanest looking seat.
"Sorry about that, I should definitely pay more attention." He laughed softly and ran his fingers through the front of his hair, pushing it out of his face.
"Well, I'm originally from Pacifidlog Town. But I live in Slateport now, just sort of doing my own thing..." Not to mention I'm a Aqua Grunt, but that's not really dinner conversation.
"How about you, Natalie?" He raised his glass of water to his lips and took a small sip, watching her intently, genuinely interested in what she had to say.
