Natalie doesn't know what to make of this new information. On one hand, it's neat to know, but at the same time it opens up a whole plethora of questions that she now wants to know the answers to. What is the reason behind Leah being an ex-partner? It's not the kind of questions she should be asking now, Nat figures, so she stays mum.
Cass' answer about Liam takes her by surprise a little. She's hit by this odd, nagging sense of deja vu, and Liam repeating it isn't helping. He's said that before... about, Auri, right? Too many names. Nat's almost sure of it, though. Something feels horribly amiss, but Nat can't quite pinpoint it. She lets it linger at the back of her mind, ready to spring when it does come to her.
It's weird, no matter how Nat looks at it. There's something on the tip of her tongue but she still can't say what exactly it is. "...Hm." Contemplative silence hangs in the air as the blonde keeps walking. There's something odd about them. Leah's red hair catches her attention again, and Natalie checks it out.
She doesn't know the answer to the question, but Leah answers with such confidence that she could make off with her heart right there and then. "It sounds about right," Natalie shrugs. She doesn't know the answer, anyway. She could help her parents with volcanic research, but she's like a fish out of water in any other discipline.

she can faintly hear leah starting to insult rory right back. leah's always been someone quick with words; who doesn't take shit from any guy - or girl - that she happens to encounter. cass included. even rory, who's over six feet tall doesn't even intimidate her. even though she's a cold bitch, cass can't help but admire that about her.
cass only rolls her eyes when rory pops up behind them, because as much as he can't keep his mouth shut he can't seem to keep himself out of her conversations, either. he suddenly grows nervous, holding his tongue in favor of agreeing with the statement. natalie's also a bit preturbed by his behavoir, but she doesn't comment on it.
"...yes?" she affirms, shooting him a curious and confused look. why does he change his opinion so quickly? and as fast as he's changed his opinion he's changed the topic. she just shrugs, and when he asks her the question, she can't help but smirk.
"maybe i am." she says. the converesation quickly ends when they reach an inscription on the wall. a couple answers float around in her head. leah's already on it though, and after sketching in her journal she's already blurted out the answer. she guesses that it's not wrong.
so she's happy. more than she was at the start of the exploration anyways. it was good that she was feeling happy. it made rory happy too. "i'm glad," he said. he repaid her smirk with one of his own. maybe this exploration wasn't so bad after all.
the group stopped at a wall with inscriptions. he took a moment to listen to the ranger. but before he could spurt out his answer leah's beaten him to it. might as well keep his mouth shut. she seemed like she knows what she's on about.
his mind returned to the incident before. just an old friend. what were the chances both of them said the same thing to the same person. he shook his head at the thought. he noticed nat wasn't quite over it. and cass was just confused. he found it very difficult to keep his cool.
"auri's nobody," he whispered to cass, "don't listen to anything nat says."

Natalie let her mind wander, from thinking about this 'just an old friend' business to thinking of a name for her Zubat. She rolled the Pokeball around in her hand as she mulled over a list of possible names, striking them off whenever they seemed unsuitable or inappropriate. She narrowed it down to a few before letting herself get distracted again.
The whole affair was nagging at the back of her mind. Natalie wondered if she had overlooked something. Looking at Cass and Liam, they didn't look like just old friends. She would know - experience taught her that people didn't just bump shoulders and speak in hushed whispers amongst each other if they were just friends. Honestly, everything looked so secretive that Nat was starting to have her doubts.
It was almost getting unbearable to watch. What about everything Liam had said about Auri back then? By the sound of it, he wasn't over her. Nat was no professional love doctor, but she knew her fair share of it, or so she believed she did. She quickened her pace to keep up with the duo. "Hey, Liam? So... where does Auri fit into all of this?" she quipped, trying to keep her questions coming. She was determined to get to the bottom of it all.
"Did you hear from her after, you know?" she gestured wildly at the two of them to indicate the conversation they had the other day.
so liam. he turned around to see nat following them. quite silently as well. he couldn't hear her sneak up. her questions just took him off guard again. why was she being so persistent? he wondered. he scratched the back of his head as he struggled to come up with an answer. instead he took out a pokeball and handed it to her.
"here's a zubat," he said. that should give him enough time to come up with a response. he glanced over at cass before turning back to nat. "auri..." he said. his hands found his pockets as he looked ahead. "okay, yes, let me explain," he said.
he cleared his throat. he thought of a clever way to bring his point up without revealing too much. "we actually saw each other the other night," he explained. he gave cass a smirk before continuing. "yeah i like her a lot but she left in the morning and now she's mad at me for sleeping around," he said.
he smirked. "who do you think is at fault?" he asked.

"i'd believe nat over you." cass snorts, nudging her shoulder against his, because even if they're a bit more friendly towards each other now, cass doesn't trust him one bit. this 'auri' is probably that one girl he screwed that day. she wonders how much of it he's done after she left.
nat quickly catches up to them, firing off questions at rory. she looks confused. maybe even a little angry -- but cass doesn't really know why. she hums, looking at him for answers because she's curious as well.
and then rory starts dicking around, and it dawns on her, because she suddenly realizes that she's auri. that rory probably switched out her name when he was talking to nat -- when did they even talk, anyways? -- and now he's starting to get caught in a lie.
cass has to admit though, it's a clever way to prove who's at fault. it's also slightly douchey, but that's what rory's best at. she scrowls back at him. it's not a game she's happy to play at.
"liam's at fault, obviously." cass huffs, "he could've given auri some time to come back."
"nice." deanna says. she ignores the bickering behind her in favor of leading the group through the cave as fast as possible. she stuffs her hands in her pockets and clicks the switch that opens the door. it swings open seemigly out of nowehere, and she leads the rest of them down towards the dimming tunnel.
then out of nowhere she hears a surge of water come at them. deanna yells as it makes contact and sends her stumbling back. she points at the hidden far into the distance.
"get it!"
the group encounters an unknown pokemon defeat the pokemon!

She was feeling a little insistent, but the matter was nagging at her. Natalie wanted to get to the bottom of this. Unwittingly, Liam was being painted as more and more of a douche than she had imagined him to be at the beginning. She held no ill will towards him at first, but that impression was quickly changing. Especially so now.
Nat blinked at the Zubat thrust into her palms, staring at the pair of them like she was supposed to know what to do with them. Well, this was problematic. Even more so now that she had to figure out not one, but two names! Two! She cursed inwardly and went back to her list of possibilities.
The distraction was only momentary. Natalie would not be taken from the path she set out on, and listening to Liam only made her blood boil. A frown began to grow on her face, contorting with confusion and anger. Nat felt herself grinding her teeth against each other as she furrowed her brow. "Are you serious?"
He probably was. She wasn't thinking too well. "What were you thinking?!" she snapped, looking cross and downright furious. "You call her! Or you wait for her to call you!" She aimed her boot to his shin, an easy target, seeing that he was pretty tall. "That's a jerk move. If you had really liked her, you would have waited, jeez!"
Nat couldn't figure out why she was so mad. It wasn't like Liam and Auri was any of her business. She did however, figure out that Liam was a capital A Douchebag, and having to spend any more time speaking to him was only going to make her angrier.
She trooped ahead of the group, following Deanna closely. She didn't want to stand any closer to Liam. Guy pissed her off enough. Water surged towards them suddenly, catching Nat off guard. "Eep!" she yelped, gripping tightly to the pair of Zubat's Pokeballs. Ymir wasn't going to be good in this scenario. "Bert!" she called out, having changed the Beldum's name again in her indecisiveness. The Steel-type levitated above the ground, crimson eye critically trying to pinpoint the opponent. "Do you see it? Try Take Down!"
It was the only move Bert knew, but it would work. The Beldum charged at the figure in the distance with reckless abandon.
"w-wait nat--" he tried to intervene. but her blood was boiling after hearing what he had to say. apparently he was at fault here. cass said so, and so does nat too. shit. he guessed he needed to apologize to cass after this. he guessed he really was a shithead.
so much so that he didn't bother dodging the kick. it hit him square in the shin and sent him stumbling backwards. he tripped on a rock and fell to the ground. he stayed on the ground until the group moved past him. then he got up and dusted off his pants. he sighed and lowered his head.
rory heard the ranger yell. he finally caught up with the group to see nat ordering her beldum around. they were fighting against something in the dark. rory reached for a pokeball and called out his beedrill. his strongest pokemon, sure, but it still looked dumb.
"fury attack," he ordered. and off the beedrill went to deliver two fury attacks at the dark. rory walked over to cass and pulled her off to the side for a moment.
"okay, look, i'm sorry," he whispered, "i was a jerk."

cass is upset at rory, but it seems like nat's twice as angry as she is. cass looks at her in surprise as she yells at him and kicks at his shin, making rory stumble back and fall. cass can't help but smirk at him, because she's finaly gotten to prove her point with the help of her fellow team mate.
rory is more then capable of handling himself, so she quickly catches up with nat and taps her on the shoulder. "you okay?" cass asks before a water gun nearly takes out deanna. she reels back in surprise, but then reaches forward to hold the ranger steady.
"sand attack." she orders as she throws snooki's pokeball. an eevee lands in front of her. chances are that this is a water pokemon. snooki runs forward and slides into the dirt, sending a splash of sand towards the hidden pokemon. she doesn't want to risk running into the battle blindly.
a hand grips her shoulder and she's led to the side by rory. cass folds her arms against her chest. she's expecting some more shit from him but it's surprisingly not. he apologizes to her, and for once it sounds genuine. cass eyes him supiciously, because not everything is what it seems, especially with rory.
"do you really feel that? or are you saying that to get me to forgive you?"
does he really feel that? he's not sure. he's said sorry so many times that it's hard to keep track of which one was genuine and which one wasn't. he took a moment to respond, instead shifting his gaze to the battle next to them. sting was doing fine. and so was snooki as well. he wasn't worried about them right now.
"i'm always trying to get you to forgive me," he replied. and then he finally realized. he's had to ask for her forgiveness so many times that he's lost count because he's a class a jerk. he realizes that now. "oh," he said.
it all came back to him. all the times he's made her angry. all the times he's made her sad. yeah, he was a fucking douche. he sees that now. he laughed. oh, he had to make up for it somehow.
"i'm being genuine this time," he replied. he let a smile appear on his face. "i'm sorry."

for some reason her question catches him off guard. he pauses to watch the battle and think. she follows his gaze -- both of their pokemon were fine, and the group is more than capable of handling this pokemon, it seems.
cass turns back to the sound of his voice. it's right after he says it does it dawn on him. a look of realization slowly crawls across his face. cass nearly has to ask if he's actually alright when he breaks into laughter. it seems a little out of place for a conversaton as serious as this.
but then he smiles, and cass realizes that something's profoundly changed about rory. she can't help but grin back. he's finally realized it. after six years of grief she's finally gotten through his thick skull. there's no words to express the amount of joy in her life. cass loops her arms around him and holds him close, because they can finally start rebuilding their destructive relationship.
she has to admit that she's missed him, but she's been holding herself back. she couldn't trust him. now it feels like she finally can. cass laughs. she doesn't care if the others are looking. this moment is too great to pass.

"I'm fine," she mumbles, but Natalie knows she's lying to herself to get over the whole situation. Her fingers are numb from confronting Liam, and she kind of regrets running her mouth. She wants this trip to end, because having to spend another moment with a douchebag in tow pisses her off beyond belief.
Her conversation with Cass doesn't last long. Liam's snatching her up by the hand and Nat's almost tempted to slap his hands off her boss and keep his disgusting hands to himself. It's not a conversation for her ears apparently - she keeps one eye on the two, straining her ears to eavesdrop while she tries to fend off the attacking intruder. Where's Leah to back them up at a time like this?
Boss is busy - hugging?! - Liam, and Natalie's beyond confused. What about patching things up with Auri? Returning to the days where he smiled as happily as he did like the picture on his phone--
Then it hits her like a freight train, and Natalie feels like a goddamn idiot for being played like a fool. She's seething with rage. On one hand, she's angry at Cass, but she's really more angry at Liam. Being led around with aliases. She wonders how much of what she knows is the truth, and what else is a lie. At this point, she's starting to think that the ranger guide is the only one to be trusted around here.
She's too caught up in her emotions when she chooses to march up to Liam, practically ignoring the fact that Cass has her arms looped around him. "Hey," she snarls aggressively, done with trying to be the nice girl and more of a mother bear struggling to keep her dignity intact. "Are you done lying now, Liam? If that's even your real name. Since Auri isn't her's." She's livid, and her grip is surprisingly strong. She wants answers. Real answers.
and then he hears it. three magic words that just changed everything. he smiles, finding comfort and relief as she pulls him in for a hug. he returns her embrace as he shut his eyes. everything feels right. his eyes open again when nat chimes in. he pulls away and looks at nat. he can't wipe off the big stupid grin off of his face.
"alright alright," he replies. nat looks angry. rory doesn't blame her. he would be too if someone was lying to him the whole time. he could only give her a reassuring smile. "she's auri and i'm not actually liam," he says. might as well get the truth out.
"my real name is bob," he says. but he couldn't stop himself from laughing. he raises his hand to cover his face in case nat had any ideas. "okay okay it's actually rory."
he hopes she wasn't someone who would come back to haunt him after knowing his name. he turns back to cass for a brief moment to peck her on the cheek.
deanna focuses her light on the source of the water and unveils a...bidoof? deanna looks at it, dumbfounded before it suddenly rolls into a ball and launches towards them. she dives to the side, looking back in a mixture of fear and confusion.
"a-are you serious?"
