so rory was seeing not only that girl at his apartment, but an auri? she can only shake her head in disbelief. cass continues alongside the ranger. she doesn't really care that she's practically alone in this exploration. she just wants to get it over with, because she's sure that leah will start hating on her and rory will get involved somehow and natalie and the ranger will just...be there.
she doesn't complain when they all go to the right. she only shrugs hopelessly at the look nat gives her. a stalemate is the last thing cass wants to have.
it's not long before rory walks up to her. she's content with staring straight ahead and ignoring his presence. but then he starts talking, and she can never resist. she gives him a long side glance before reluctantly sighing in defeat.
"no." she admits. is she ever okay? but it's not because of leah. she maybe a bitch but her petulance isn't enough to rile cass that much. "doesn't seem like you thought that a minute ago." she snorts.
their conversation's cut short when a swarm of zubat appear. they look like they have a murderous intent. cass takes out a pokeball, summoning her houndour. "cerberus -- use ember."
so cass wasn't okay. he knew it. he wondered what could have caused it. it might have been leah. but cass wasn't one to get riled up over a few petty insults. maybe it was him? yeah, it was probably him.
"i was joking," he replied. really he wouldn't do that in front of her. "what's wrong?" he asked.
the group then encountered a swarm of zubats. he expected to run into a few. caves were notorious for them. he watched as cass took out her houndour and ordered it. the others were capable of handing the swarm without him, right? he couldn't care less about it right now.
"is it leah?" he asked maybe a bit too loud. the flapping noises from the zubats made it difficult to talk. fine. he'll battle. he reached into his pocket to pull out a pokeball. he tossed it and out came a slowpoke. "hi fatso please tackle," he ordered.
rory turned around to give the redhead a good look. he examined her from head to toe. "is it me?" he whispered. he was still looking at the girl. something about her intrigued him.
She quirks an eyebrow at Nat- Leah had never complimented her name (in fact something as inelegant as Nat made her skin crawl) but the redhead supposed that people heard what the wanted to hear and only smiled mutely at the return of the nonexistent compliment. Whatever.
Her next question made her smile- first of all saying Cass’s name like that implied that the blonde also knew the magma grunt in someway, and although Liam’s name had web said before she seemed to know the male as well. "Ah well, Cass is a...business associate of sorts, if you will. Something like a girlfriend that won't get off your back and also the kin you want to tease and shove off a cliff," her words were said with the same usual voice. Leah didn't believe in whispering unless necessary. If people cared what she though let them come at her- she was always ready.
"And well, Liam’s not someone I knew before, but surely that can change," she added, giving a coy smile the male’s way. She gave Nat a curious look and one eyebrow went up. "And you?" she asked, as though she was making friendly conversation.
That was when the Zubats swarmed and Leah rolled her eyes. Ugly Pokemon annoyed her, and these bars were the epitome of horrendousness.
"Rugosa," she called, throwing a pokeball with flair that was natural for a coordinator. "Bring them down."
The Budew leaped forward, glowing white in a growth attack before hurling a bomb of green at the bats- energy ball, it was called, and the attack was beautiful: a mix of white sheen and green iridescence. Leah smiled.
She then noticed what Liam was saying and how he was looking at her. She waved at him, mockingly innocent as she tilted her head and arched both brows.
"You know," she hollered over to his side-- "It's rude to talk about a woman in front of another when she’s so close by." Her teeth flashed in a grin.
@trainwreck!!
Budew level 9 uses growth and then energy ball! @zubat that has not been hit

She hadn't even realised she had addressed the Magma leader so informally. To be honest, Natalie didn't know if they knew each other on first name basis, much less nickname basis. But Liam had introduced her as Cass, so she went along with it. Leah's description of Cassandra was... strange, to say in the least. "Uh, I met Liam on the way here, around Route 101?" He'd picked up her disobedient Drilbur before. "We talked a little." She left out the bit where she had somehow managed to pry some things out of him.
She flinched when she noticed the swarm of Zubat. Shit, uh, right, her Pokeballs! She reached for them, debating which of her two to use. Did she want to deal with her Drilbur now? But her Beldum was also unfortunately, stuck with one attack. It was, however, a massive tank when it came to battling weaker Pokemon. She thought for a while longer.
"Ymir!" she called out, her Drilbur eyeing her opponents and going straight for the kill, not even waiting for instruction. She could tell who her opponents were. The Pokemon pressed both arms together and starting spinning furiously, drill cutting through the air and flying straight towards the last Zubat with Rapid Spin. Natalie wondered if these were available for capture. She could use another Pokemon on her team, she guessed. She watched Liam and Cass ahead, talking amongst themselves, Leah having no qualms about calling him out on something.
What trainwreck of a group had she gotten herself into?

"you're always joking, aren't you?" she snaps. because it's like a salt to the wound. cass doesn't know if she should keep talking or just ignore him, because it's always hard to do either. the caves suddenly filled with screeches and flapping. it's loud and she can barely hear rory over the noise.
she shakes her head at his first question. her hair whips in her face. it's too much effort to start yelling. flashes of fire lick at cerberus' mouth, and he shoots them out in quick succession. a portion of the zubat a easily go down.
a ghost of a smile graces her lips when rory sends out his pokemon. cass can't help but find that amusing, because now it feels like rory hasn't changed at all. and he hasn't.
she huffs under her breath, "fatso, really?" but continues on watching the battle. the swarm is easily being handled among the four.
everyone is talking at once. the noise and and voices are a little overwhelming. the whiny voice of the redhead strikes her the most. leah's comment only serves to make her angrier. she huffs angrily and watches as the last of the zubats are taken down.
"yes liam, maybe you shouldn't say anything at all."
well everybody seem capable of handling their own. they all seem very capable. maybe he didn't even need to battle. "not all the time," he replied. he watched as the two other trainers ordered their pokemon to attack. they surrounded the swarm of zubats. it won't be long now until they were gone.
apparently he wasn't speaking soft enough as leah made her way over to him. oh what a mess this was. he couldn't try to fix it with cass when the other two were here. it was too much if a distraction. he sighed. maybe he should just stop talking.
"maybe a little too close," he whispered. well, might as well have a confrontation. "what's your deal?" he asked leah. he gestured over to cass afterwards. he leaned in closer to leah and smirked down at her. "daddy issues?" he scoffed.
all the while he couldn't help but pity nat. all alone behind them just watching us the three bantered with each other. she doesn't exactly fit in with this crowd. she was too nice. and that was cool, he guessed.
she couldn't really respond to his reply. nor did she really want to. when they were left in the silence of the cave cass moves on quickly, following right behind the ranger. she doesn't return cerberus. if they run into another pokemon she doesn't have to waste time getting out his pokeball.
despite her best attempts to ignore the conversation behind her cass can't help but listen in. it's like her ears hone in on the sound, since everything else is so quiet. rory openly insults leah. he's defending cass, even though she's been less then kind to him.
the whole ordeal is rather petty. leah the assaliant, nat and deanna the witnesses, rory the support. he wasn't in the beginning but he surely is now. cass is obviously, the opponent. or victim. she can argue both -- she's said things in the beginning, but that moment's quickly passed. she hasn't said anything back to leah since then. because rory's doing that for her.
cass turns her head, giving a sidelong glance at the people behind her. she's silent, but when she turns forward the corners of her lips are turned up ever so slightly, like the beginning of a smile.

Ymir attacked with such forceful intensity that Natalie was momentarily blinded by awe. That Drilbur could shred. In the aftermath, the Zubat she had attacked had been quickly defeated. "G-Good job, Ymir!" she called out to the Drilbur. The mole's claws itched for more. She had her eyes narrowed on the Houndour, but Natalie reacted quickly. She raised the Drilbur's Pokeball, wasting no time in returning her before the situation got worse. "Return!"
Red light swallowed the Drilbur whole. She tucked the Pokeball into her pocket, not giving her a chance to get violent. Instead, she reached for an empty Pokeball instead. It might be good to get one of these... Zubat didn't show much promise at first, but they got strong pretty decently, and they were known for swift brutality. "Alright," she whispered under her breath, tossing a Pokeball at the female Zubat that lay defeated on the ground.
She glanced up at the group who was already moving. Natalie hastened her steps to keep up, noting that Liam was busy talking to Leah... she could talk to her boss now under the guise of making acquaintances. She adjusted her hat and caught up to Cassandra, just in time to notice that she was smiling to herself. "You look happy," she spoke softly, a gentle smile on her face.
Had the boss always looked so pretty? Maybe it was the dim light.

she reluctantly fishes out a vacant pokeball out of her bad and throws it at one of the remaining zubats. cass doesn't intend to train it, but there's probably someone out there who'd like one. it's sucked into the contraption in a bright red light, and she picks it up as it clicks blue.
she's minding her own business when natalie strolls up. she likes natalie. kindhearted and calm but still quietly assertive in her own way. she always has a sharp sense of timing, evident by the way she walks up just in time to see cass's smile.
by the time she's straightened her face out she's already commented on it. cass falters and smiles sheepishly. she spoke too soon when she said nobody saw her.
"guess i am." she laughs. surely in a better mood then she was aat the beginning of this trip. "what about you?" she asks. because if leah's the assaliant and cass is the victim, she's certainly the poor civilian caught in this awkward crossfire.

Natalie was pretty sure there's like, some sort of protocol when it comes to addressing your boss so casually. She always thought there had to be like, saluting, amongst other things. She found it nice to see Cass smiling. Most of the times it involved angry storm outs and yelling - rather like the bantering display from earlier - but this smiling stuff was a nice change of pace. Natalie decided she liked this much more than screaming Cass.
The smile on her face was not going away. She wondered if she looked a little creepy now, but there was no helping it. "I'm great. Thanks for asking." For a moment, Natalie wanted nothing more than to drop this silly game of not knowing who Cass was. Trying to keep her distance was tough... She wanted to sidle up to her like a best friend or something, because gal pals were always a good thing to have. Or maybe more than gal pals-- wow, it wasn't the time.
"So... how do you know Liam and Leah?" Leah said Cass was a business associate, but she didn't know what that meant, as hard as she wracked her mind. Liam was another question mark. She stuffed the Zubat's Pokeball into her bag. She'd figure out a name for her later. Honestly, Natalie would rather not have to be the investigator figuring out how on earth everything clicked, but as the pitiable spectator of this mess, she had to do something to pass the time.

cass likes to be on friendly terms with everyone in magma. but she still likes to establish control -- power, over her subordinates. so when they got a little too rowdy or rude she's quick to put them back in place. it happens a lot, especially when she's in magma's base.
at first she's at a lost with nat's question. how does she know rory - no, liam - and leah? leah's simple -- she can just tell the truth. but rory's different. she doubts that they know that the aqua leader is standing next to them, right at this moment.
"we go back." cass starts, because it's true. she's a terrible liar, and under nat's scrutiny she doubts that she can get away with it. "leah used to be my magma partner." she says politely. there's much to be said, but cass is sure that the girl wouldn't appreciate anymore cursing and jabs, despite the temptation.
"liam's...an old friend." she says. because that's true, right? she just doesn't mention all the things that's happened recently. she couldn't divulge much, especially with the two in question right behind them. maybe later, if nat wanted to ask again.
the zubats eventually fainted and crashed onto the floor. he smiled at leah one last time before turning away to head to the fallen zubats. he lowered himself to one knee and gave fatso a pat on the head. for such a dumb looking pokemon fatso was actually quite the companion. cute, loyal, a bit slow, but whatever he made up for it in battle.
he took out two pokeballs, tossing one over to a male zubat and another to fatso. both were sucked into the pokeballs. he picked them back up and followed the group. he walked alongside leah for a bit. he kept his mouth shut and listened to whatever she had to say. he doesn't want to fight. not now anyways.
looking ahead at the two walking in front of him just made him feel happy. he drowned out all the noise that surrounded him and just watched them. he felt at ease. that was until he heard someone say the name liam, which again took him a few seconds to process. but once he did he sped up and walked closer.
"just an old friend," he interrupted. it dawned on him that nat was going to put two and two together and bust them. but he chimed in at the right time he hoped. "nothing more, right?" he laughed nervously.
"you guys good?" he asked, opting to change the topic. he looked ahead at the path they were walking on. it was getting darker. but it was still bright enough to see.
the group's calmed down a bit, which deanna appreciates. it's hard being a tour guide. lots of scuffles between people, not to mention the difficult people they get every so often.
she stops at a wall. there's a sign inscribed in old looking letters. the organizers put it in before the event started but they wouldn't know. heh.
she reads it out loud. "i have ears that help keep my powers from leaking out of my organs. what am i?"
She watches as Rory walks over, lips still curved to show a smile. But then she hears what he has to say and she feels like rolling her eyes all over again. It disgusting how obviously lovey-dovey this Liam is with Cass, and maybe there's a pang of jealousy attached to it all as well. Maybe she misses having people she doesn't actively need to hate- maybe she misses Cain. Because what Rory's doing here just radiates Cain to her, and it's annoying. She can see through it before it even begins, so just as Rory's half way through with his first sentence, she makes a dramatic "Shhh-shhh-shhh~" and moves her hand to his lips, finger curved upward.
"Sorry, I though I heard something actually important." She gives him an all too smug look and then just as quickly becomes actually distracted- there's something in the walls.
She ignores the rest of Rory's ramblings and the world suddenly tunes out as her eyes focus on a single little item embedded into the rocks of the wall. She doesn't want to touch it, so instead her fingers start moving and the pen began scratching at the surface, drawing the very same thing into her notebook.
She loses the group for a while, zoning out there. She doesn't mind. Groups are not her thing- she doesn't need them to succeed. But when she's done she can see the tail of the group and she walks towards it, mood a little more serious than the teasing smirk she had on before.
She watches them from behind for minute, enjoying the adorable scene like the audience at a film hall. Their roles are clear, and Leah wonders for a bit.
She smirks at the words said by the guide as she shows her sketch to the girl, and consequently, the rest of the group. She had seen it in the walls, and it was obviously the answer now.
"Espurr," she states, ever smiling. But this time maybe actually productive to the community.
Oh well, she'd have to correct that eventually.
